Zoladex 3+ years

Hello all
just wondering if there is anyone out there who has been on zoladex for more than 3 years. I have just hit 3 years on zoladex and tamoxifen and my oncologist is suggesting another 2 years…
Of course i will do anything that will help keep me cancer free but the thought of another 2 years of menopause (at 33) is pretty depressing!
Anyone else out there in the same boat??
LOL

hi janetn cant help you i am afraid i was on zoladex for 2 years there finished end of October and started my period 2 weeks ago, the first for over 2 years. I am 34, dx at 31 and had an appointment with my onc. last week who says I hsould be thinkin about ovary removal which I do not want !!! As you say I will do anything as well to keep cancer free and although I loathed being on zoladex and all the awful menopausal side effects ( I can sympathise with you totally on that !) I would go back on it rather than have surgery. I guess my point is I thought you could only be on it for 2 years !!! So I will be asking my onc. end of May when I see her next if this is another option for me.
Hope someone can help you out
take care, Lorri xx

Hi lorri
thanks for the message, good to share the zoladex pain! It is such a drag - very pleased to hear your periods came back OK.
Not sure how long you can or can not stay on zoladex - to be honest there is no research to say its good or bad past 2 years so i guess this is all new territory!
I agree with you i would rather be on Zoladex than have it all removed! But i am hoping that kids might still be an option one day, though i still can’t get my head around it all being OK - but that’s a whole other discussion forum!!!
take care

Hi janet,I have to take it for 5 years too,I am only a year and a half down the line and I am opting to have my ovaries out,the reasons for this are I have been through the menopause once and its not so bad now,I still get hot flushes etc but once I stop taking zoladex its a scary thought for me to think my ovaries are going to kick back into action and periods will start again and then a few years later to go through menopause again,no thanks,I would rather have a little op and stay the way I am.Having your ovaries out is not a big op its keyhole and its a little nick around your belly button somewhere,or so I have been told anyway. take care…debbi xsaying all that I am 39 and I have 3 children so I know you are in a different situation I would not have them out if I had no children .

thanks debbie - did anyone tell you about any stats regarding 2 years vs 5 years on zoladex? or did your oncologist just recommend it?
I would do the same as you if i had my kids already, just whip 'em out and thats it…end of!!
take care
