Hi All,
I am just looking for some advice really re: Zoladex and am interested in your experiences.
I am due to start my chemo tomorrow and went to see my Onc today. I have been offered Zoladex if i would like it during chemo.
Basically i have been told is that the positives are that my ovaries are protected during chemo. The negatives are that it slams my body in to a menopause and that it ‘blunts’ the effects of the chemo.
Has anyone else been told this? I just wondered what your experiences have been.
Thanks,
Rae
Hi Rae,
I took zoladex for 6 months through my chemo. I was told it could help protect my ovaries. I wasn’t told it would reduce the effects of chemo at all. I had my op after chemo and my lump had reduced by over 50% so I don’t think the chemo could have worked any better!
I had lots of hot flushes during zoladex but no other side effects. My periods stopped immediately and have not restarted yet. I am on tamoxifen now for 5 years and eagerly await the end!
Good luck with your treatment.
Kate xx
Hi Kate,
thanks for letting me know. I decided against it in the end. I did ask the doc what chance i had of my periods coming back after chemo without Zoladex and she said 90%. I heop she is right!
