zoladex
zoladex Hello everyone
I’m due to have my 24th jab next month. I then go to see my onc to discuss whether it will be beneficial for me to have another year of injections. I had a grade 1, stage 2 tumour, with 1 lymph node involved and it was strongly oestrogen receptor positive.
Has anyone been recommended to have another year of zoladex?
I also take tamoxifen. How soon, if at all, did your periods come back after the last injection?
Thanks
fantan
3 years on Zoladex Fantan
Sorry for the delay but I don;t log in that often. I had a grade 3 tumour with no spread. I am 38 years old. I stayed on Zoladex for three years because by the time it gets to the third year the nasty symptoms seemed to have all gone. My consultant said that I may as well do another year.
I had my last injection in December and my consultant said at least 4/5 months for period to come back. I have just had my first one in mid May - bang on the 4/5 month mark. Period lasted 5 days, was a little heavier than normal but otherwise I wouldn’t have know that I had not had one for 3 years.
I am still on Tamoxifen and my consultant said to expect that the periods might be a little irregular. All seems to be OK though.
As an aside, I got my bone density checked and it had dropped a little over the 3 years but only by about 7%. My consutlant said that this should pick up over the next year or so - especially if I stay on tamoxifen.
I hope this helps. i wish you all the best luck,
Sally
Hi Fantan, Hi Fantan,
I was diagnosed in 2003 with two oestrogen-positive grade 3 tumours and after a mastectomy, chemo, and radiotherapy, was given zoladex and tamoxifen.
Oncologist suggested I gave up both after two years. Apparently new research shows no benefit in staying on tamoxifen for another three years if you’ve had both drugs.
So, gave up both drugs in Dec 2005. Had periods August & October 2006, February & March 2007 but nothing since. I am 45 now and may alas be heading through the menopause. Just had blood test so in a few weeks I should know whether this is so.
Hope that this is useful.
Best wishes,
Sue
