Zoledex - 28 days versus 3 monthly injections

Afternoon beautiful ladies!

After your invaluable advise if I may?

I had my first Zoladex injection in January and have had one every 28 days since then (including today. I also started anastrazole shortly afterwards.

The week before my zoladex injection is due gives me the most excrutiating premenstrual symptoms ever (aches, headaches, emotional, very eratic moods swings etc). I usually handle these during the first 3 weeks by taking tramadol. However, the week before my next injection, nothing touches it! Spoke to doc today and he has asked me to ask my onc if I could have 3 monthly injection. Before I speak to him I’d like to know what you do and what are the pros/cons of each differing time period for the injection?

Look forward to hearing your experiences ;D

Hi, when I asked last year I was told no. Zoladex only licensed for breast cancer monthly. 3 monthly was for prostate cancer! Something to do with oestrogen production , but cld be wrong!! Good luck! Gx

i have heard same as gemdancer, but there does seem to a few ladies on here who do have 3 monthly.

can i ask furball, why they combination of zoladax/anastrazole?? i am waiting for appointment to discussing starting zoladax. i have already started tamoxifen a couple of weeks ago now.

thanks for any info.

Thanks Ladies

Sadly I can’t take tamoxifen because I have blood clots in both my lungs. Which means my oncologist won’t remove my ovaries (in case I bleed to death or have another blood clot which could kill me whilst operating) so its zoladex to stop the production of oestrogen from my ovaries, and the anastrzole to stop the production of oestrogen from other glands in my body. As I am very high (8/8 positive) for both oestrogen and progestron fedding my cancer, I’m throwing everything at it

Good luck starting the zoladex. I have heard some women having the 3 monthly injection - but as yet no one on the forum has given their experience of that yet and the rationale.

All the best

thanks for that furball.

would you or would your onc suggest having ovaries out then if that was possibility instead of zoladax then?

how long will you have zoladax for?

if you have a look on hormone therapy section threads there are some threads on there about zoladax and i think its mentioned about 28 days or 3 monthly. (theres pages and pages of threads to look through so you might find some previous discussions on the subject that might help you maybe).
