I am due to have my second Zometa treatment in a fortnight. For the last couple of months I have had pain in my ear/jaw area which GP has attributed to ear fluid/ sinus issues. I have read about necrosis of jaw due to this treatment and am beginning to get concerned. Has anyone suffered with this? Thanks for reading.
Evening Sue9. I am just recovery from pain in both sides of my jaw. I had the same worry as you but not on the same treatment that you are on. I went to my dentist to get mine checked out. I had 3 different antibiotics but the pain and swelling was still there but no signs of infection or abnormalities on x rays. I was then referred to maxfax team in the hospital and they diagnosed me with enlarged lymph nodes and blocked salivary ducts.
Maybe it’s worth you asking your GP for an urgent referral to them.
My dentist sent mine as a suspected cancer and I was seen within 4 days which was amazing.
I hope you get it sorted soon.
Thankyou, @cwtch I definitely will. Diolch. ![]()
What area are you in that you got seen so quickly?
Morning Sue9. I live in South Wales. My local health board is Aneurin Bevan university. I’m having immunotherapy and was also referred to the toxicity team on the Monday and seen on the Wednesday. The care I have had has been amazing.
Hope you manage to be seen and keep me updated please 🩷.
What area are you in?
Hi
I would definitely get a dentist to check to see if any treatment is needed. My understanding is that if you have any procedure such as root canal treatment or an extraction, then because you are having zometa you may get necrosis.
Just get it checked out!
Hi @cwtch. I live in West Wales, Hywel Dda health board. Operation in Prince Phillip hospital, Llanelli. Very happy with everything. But where I live, no support groups and over an hour to the hospital. Thanks for responding and will definitely keep in touch. Phoning dentist first thing on Monday to request check up before I have my Zometa treatment.
Thankyou @bigpickle for responding. I intend to telephone dentist on Monday to request an appointment before my Zometa treatment.
Not suffered with it but I see my dentist regularly and get him to check my gums.
If I were you I would contact your oncologist rather than the doctor. They will know what to do about it. I had an unusual bad reaction to my first Zometa. My knees swelled up and were so painful I couldn’t weight bear or walk so ended up in A & E. My oncologist said that the risk outweighed the benefits and cancelled any future infusions.
