Hi Hope - you’ll be pleased to know it’s just the first one, and symptoms usually only last 24 hours or so. Take some paracetamol and you should be fine tomorrow.

Hi,
As I think others will be along to say, this is usually just an after effect of the first one. I was warned about it and told to take paracetamol when I got home after the infusion and to drink plenty of water. I’ve never had the flu-like side effects after the first one and I’ve been on it monthly for almost 3 yrs now with my next one on Monday.
Hope you feel a bit better soon and don’t get the same SEs next time. It’s worth it in the long run!!

Hi Hope
I also had a bad reaction from Zometa the first time - shivering, sickness, aching, but it only lasts a few hours. I have just had my fifth one and have been fine since.
Drink plenty of water and take paracetamol if you are aching badly. I wasn’t told to do that, but at the second session the nurse did say it would help.
Hope you feel better now.

Hi hope,
I was lucky and didn’t get flu symptoms but I know you can get them the first couple of doses. As the others have said, drink plenty of water and take some paracetamols.
I try to up my fluids around my zometa dates and it seems to help. What I have noticed is that I tend to get a bit more tired and achy just before and after a treatment, don’t know if other people do or if thats peculiar to me!
Hope you are feeling much better now, love Julie
Hi all,
Just catching up with the forums and sitting here and feeling achey all over. Got my zometa on Wed and always feel as though my body is asking for it a few days before, been on it over a year now.
Agree about the uptake of water and a nice hot water bottle for my spine. They are zapping with with radio for the first time in secondary stage on Thursday so a double whammie this time.
Keep positive all.

Hi Starryskies,
I sometimes get aches a few days before my next lot is due too. I had a one-off rads blast in Jan after very slight progression and after a while it wiped me out - I was so tired and lethargic. Had forgotten what the rads could do (originally had it 3 yrs ago) so do bear that in mind. It did lift suddenly after about 5 weeks - and it worked too !!
