How long are people waiting in Scotland?

Hi, thanks for your reply, sadly both of my parents have passed away and my husband works away and is away just now - he won’t be back until the end of March. My sister lives in Norway too so it’s just me and the kids at home, (12&14) and the dogs.  Yeah the relax+ app has helped but I am still waking overnight. Hope you don’t have to wait too much longer x

Thanks @TV1980 I won’t lie, the waiting has been hard. I find it helps if I can keep myself busy and distracted by other things. It’s always in the back of my mind but more manageable that way. I’ve also been falling asleep at night in front of mindless TV rather than going up to bed and lying awake over thinking. 
You might find it helpful to talk about things with a friend, your mum, partner or whoever you’re closest to. If you feel that you don’t want to worry them, then I called the helpline here and the nurse was fantastic. Whatever you do, don’t search things on Google, it’ll terrify you and make everything seem worse. If you really can’t resist doing some research then use more reliable sources such as this site, MacMillan or Cancer Research. Take care. xx

The waiting is the worst ☹️

I had breast cancer in 2011 (I was 39 at the time).  Mastectomy, chemotherapy and herceptin was my treatment.  All was well until October just past when during an unrelated ultrasound they found a 4cm mass on my adrenal gland. I have had CT, PET and biochemical testing to find out if it’s secondary to the breast cancer or a new adrenal tumour (which has a 9 out of 10 chance of being benign if it is).  Adrenal gland is being removed whatever the outcome.

Yesterday was my day of finding out if secondary or not.  Phone call 90 mins before appointment to say full results not back so postponing appointment aaaaaarrrrrggggghh. So frustrating and felt totally done of the whole situation.  So now waiting for phone call.

I can say that in 2011 the team at ARI were amazing, everything felt smoother. Please if I can help with any questions you have don’t hesitate to ask as I know exactly what you are going through.  

Going to go and download that app now haha, I am up for trying anything.  I have lavender spray; cream; the lot but my sleep is non existent just now.

It’s shocking how they’ve let things get so bad & covid is just a convenient excuse to hide behind for them not meeting targets. England have managed to mostly keep on top of theirs.. 

How long have you been waiting? And do you know for sure what you have yet?

Sending a hug - I have also been struggling with sleep - I downloaded the relax+ app 2 days ago though and play it at bedtime so that has definitely helped me to switch off a little bit. Take care & hoping for a positive outcome for you x

Hi TV1980, I am also at ARI.  I feel this time around things are not moving as fast - I am presuming due to Covid.  So frustrating and doesn’t help the worrying (hence the 2am post).

Good to hear you now know the date for the next step.  Really hope all goes well for you.

Hi, I’m in Glasgow and things have moved quickly for me. I called my GP surgery on 31st December to make the initial appointment about my concerns and my GP saw me the same day. I was referred to the breast clinic and had my appointment there on the 19th January. I go back tomorrow for the results. 😬 
I hope things move forward for you soon and it turns out to be a false alarm. Good luck. x

I called the clinic yesterday and I do have an appt booked in thankfully for 3rd Feb. This next 10 days or so are going to be hellish. I’m already struggling to sleep and my mind is in overdrive 🤯

Hi, I’m also being treated at ARI. The wait time for mammography or ultrasound does seem to be 2-3 weeks just now. Waiting is dreadful I know, but all I can say is to keep as busy as possible, leaving as little time for thinking as you can! Anything absorbing helps- a great book, a craft you’ve always fancied trying, meet friends, any treat you like to make time pass quicker. If I can see how to PM you, I’ll send some info which might help.

I found a lump on Tuesday and managed to see GP later that day. She found a 2nd lump on my other breast. My mum and maternal grandmother both died from metastatic breast cancer. I’m 41 and they were much older than me when they passed.

Anyway - I got told by GP I should be seen within 2 weeks and if I’ve not heard anything in 3 to call her back.

I am wondering on average how long people have to wait on the first appointment? I would be Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. 

I am feeling quite stressed about the whole situation and I’m terrified it’s going to be bad news. I just wish they wouldn’t promise a 2 week referral if they can’t adhere to it..
