Leanne 👍great news ❤️ Don’t ever apologise for being vigilant and looking after yourself you are doing right 👍 keep checking regularly and being vigilant 👍 so happy everything ok ❤️ 💕💕✨✨Shi xx
Hello. Just to let you know, things went well today. They identified thickening of tissue but said it was nothing sinister where I had felt the lump two weeks ago. (I couldn't find it when he asked me where I felt it, I'd been too nervous to keep checking since the doctors appointment). The consultant couldn't find any lumps in breast that GP had referred to.
I am being referred to the genetics assessment to look at my risk factor due to family history and likely to get mammograms from 40 (currently 35).
It feels so weird as I had steeled myself for bad news and then it wasn't that I now almost don't believe it. Obviously a massive weight has been lifted though and I'm relieved.
I can't thank you both enough for the support this week as I was losing my mind and now feel a bit embarrassed about how worked up I was. Take care xx
Thank you for the information. I'm not allowed to take anyone with me 😭 so a notebook sounds like a good idea. I realised the consultant for the clinic mentioned on the phone is the man who did my mums breast surgery nearly 10 years ago 😳
I'm so nervous, I can't concentrate on my work at all.
Well done 👍. You may have biopsies, so will need to get undressed and wear a gown. I took my hubby with me as I attended a one- stop- shop and was told there and then I had cancer. Bit of a shock to say the least. He drove me home. I also went prepared with a notebook to write everything down as I had been forewarned there would be too much to take in. I met my BC Macmillan nurse, and was given a timetable of my treatment, surgery, radiotherapy etc. A lot to take in. I was there 3 hours.
whatever your particular appointment is like you are now in the system so things should tick along from now on. I congratulate you on your determination which got you this appointment, and hope all goes as you wish on Friday. I’ll be thinking of you. 🍀💐
Hello. I finally have an appointment - Friday morning. In the heat of the call I forgot to ask what would be involved. All I was told was to wear a face covering, wash my hands and not to wear deodorant or perfume.
I'll let you know how it goes xx
So my insurance only kicks in after a 6 week wait and for referrals made by a consultant/specialist and not a GP 🤷♀️🤦♀️
I'm off work tomorrow so I will call the helpline. Thanks so much for the support x
Glad you’ve chased up Leanne but do think about using your private medical insurance through work and also please call the number on here, they can advise in more depth with the COVID-19 situation and how it’s impacting appointments ❤️ Please do ring that Secretary first thing on Friday if you have not heard and also contact the pals office at your trust and raise as an issue with them too. Please keep off dr google, it’s tempting but please try not to. Sending ❤️👭❤️💕💕Shi xx
Hope you're all OK. I spoke to my GPs secretary today and she called the clinic to chase up and phoned me straight back with exactly the same message they've given me about waiting for clinic capacity and not being able to give a timescale. She said if I'd not heard from clinic by Friday to call her back and she'd chase them again.
I decided to tell one of the senior managers at work too in case I do get called for a cancellation appointment. He was supportive.
So I guess I'm still waiting... Xx
Leanne 👍 yes get onto it with work too if you have private health care 👍 ❤️ First thing is your health, that’s the most important thing, you can always get another job if that happens or set up your own business or just follow your dreams ❤️ But always your health first, lots of us had stress, long hours etc etc took our eyes off our health then wham, you are on a journey you never expected. You have been vigilant and are trying to get checked out 👍 so keep pushing 👍 and always be vigilant, tell friends family and anyone who will listen to remember to check regularly, and at any age, it’s not picky at what age it chooses ❤️ Please also remember till a professional tells you you have bc, you do not have it ❤️ Please do phone the number on here and speak to the nurses, they will give you more guidance and support ❤️ And everyone on the threads is always a post away for you 👭❤️💕💕✨✨Shi xx
I'll call them both in the morning again.
I have private health care through work, would that get me an appointment any quicker?
I'll warn my visits that I may not be able to attend and I'll keep my phone with me and loud at work awaiting calls.
Thoughts all over the place and anxiety through the roof at times. Plus news today that there will be redundancies at work. Stress on stress.
Thanks for your replies x
Leanne please chase it up, I can’t stress enough that it’s so very important you do, you shouldn’t have to but with the COVID situation it looks like you will have to, please don’t put work before this, you need to get checked out as soon as possible. Mine went from 2cm to 5cm in the six weeks between diagnosis and operation, I was lucky it hadn’t got into my lymph nodes but it was on the way and if I’d not gone straight to doctors and had clinic appointment and found it early, I think you know what I am trying to say, please don’t put anything before your health and life. Hopefully you will be ok and getting checked will give you answers ❤️ I just want you to be safe ❤️💕💕✨✨Shi xx
Shi is right about the referral time line, or was before Covid. Don’t really know what is happening now as the appointments seem to be all to pot at the moment. I had an urgent referral for a scan to my neck and it took 3 weeks! I know that the nhs is still catching up as I have had clinic, mammo and Lymphodaema clinic all rearranged. I think it’s worth a few phone calls both to your GP and work. I believe that your health comes before work so would not worry at all about taking time off, especially if you are genetically cancer indicated. X
Thanks for the reply. I would leave work if possible but I have to travel around. I live near Newcastle but for example one day next week I'm working in West Yorkshire.
Its frustrating they can't even give me an appointment in the future or an idea of a timescale of when I should be seen.
You should be seen within 10 days I think it is, I know you have work to consider but your work should let you out for checkup so please speak to your supervisor or hr department and let them know you will have to go at the drop of a hat if you get a call and that you need your phone on you to take the call, please do not put work before your health. Work has a duty of care to you. Please keep on at your unit, I’m not sure with the Covid-19 how things are working at trusts, please phone the number on here for some additional guidance too, but please put your health and life before work ❤️💕💕✨✨Shi xx
Hi, I found a lump in my armpit last weekend. I thought it was pain from working out and then found the lump. I went to see my GP on Tuesday who confirmed the lump and also said there were lumps in my right breast. He referred me to the referral clinic on the same day and gave me a letter with a number to call if I hadn't heard from them by the Thursday.
Still no word by the Thursday so I called and they said they couldn't give me an idea of when I'd get an appointment.
I missed a call from them today and when I called back they said it was because there had been a cancellation but it had already been taken. I asked when I'd get an appointment and they couldn't say.
I am working so some days will be unable to just drop everything to go for a cancellation if they call me another day. Is that how it works? I just have to wait for a last minute cancellation?
I am really anxious about it as my family history does not point to this not being cancer.
