Lorna I had a nurse with me during ultrasound and biopsy so that's all pretty normal practice.
The fact that they have biopsied doesn't automatically mean they think you have breast cancer, they will always do one if they cant tell exactly what it is.
Nodes can be enlarged for innocent reasons like a virus or infection but of course when coupled with a breast lump you are going to feel alarmed it's only natural but again it doesn't mean there is anything sinister going on.
I know how hard this is but you are on your way to knowing for certain now and in all honesty whatever the outcome this period of limbo really is the worst part. Here's hoping all will be well and you won't need us beyond next week but if not then there is plenty of support and endless knowledge amongst us all so you won't be alone Xx Jo
I would say that the one who did the first examination and marked where the lumps are is your consultant.
A senior radiographer will have done the biopsy.
You get to see a breast nurse as routine when you have had a biopsy.
Make a note of any questions and if possible take someone with you to your next appointment as it is difficult to take in what they are saying when you are anxious.
we have all been through the ‘dream’ you mention, hopefully yours will have a happy ending next week.

Hiyer Lorna,
I don't know if they send a nurse with someone who has had a biopsy, sorry, as mine was done privately and there weren't any bc nurses in that system/present, maybe someone else can answer that?. I will say I have been where you are, and was told 'it might be/it might not...its 50/50...we are concerned but can't be certain so the biopsy will show'. It was AWFUL, a hideous roller-coaster of a wait, filled with fear and trying to reassure yourself and looking for answers (this was 2 1/2 years ago, and in my case it was bc). I'm not going to say to you at this point 'oh don't worry, it won't be'....lots said this to me and it didn't prepare me or even help as my mind swung back immediately to 'but it could be'. I know that would be what you want to hear, and hopefully that will be what you hear, but I'm going to tell you what I was told by two people that I think is more helpful and prepares you IF it is a form of BC. One person said 'it might be bc, lets start looking ahead to what we will do when it is...' and the other (my surgeon) said 'If it is, and it is possible, we will SORT IT'. Those words stuck with me. They felt painful at the time.....hearing there was a possibility....but the 'we will sort it' was what I needed to hear. I remember crying and saying 'will you?' and she said 'yes, we will'...and she did ! 2 1/2 years later, 2 clear mammos and discharged from clinic. So......I will say this to you Lorna....IF it is (and I sincerely hope its not, as I know the psychological torture of those first few weeks of diagnosis) THEY WILL SORT IT. There are modern treatments, good effective plans can be put in place, and you have every reason to be very hopeful. The majority of women will continue to live a long and healthy life. ;o)
I’m sorry that you have not been reassured by your consultant.
Waiting for biopsy appointments is very stressful but please remember that there are lots of benign conditions and that most lumps are not cancerous.
How do you find your consultant? Mine was wonderful and knowing that and trusting him made my tests and treatment much more bearable.
sending hugs, Lorraine
I didn't have any pain relating to my cancer, I did have a Fibrodenama which is a benign lump and that caused me pain. Is your lump painful?
Hi Liz, Yes of course your very welcome to jump in! I'm sorry you have this worry but hopefully all will be well.
Do you have a clinic date yet? Xx Jo
Lorna we can all relate to feeling like you do, your tense and anxious and it can make you feel pretty rotten. Yes it's all very real but so unlikely to be caused by anything sinister. Im not dismissing what you are feeling but it's all down to your body being in fight or flight mode honestly.
All the best for tomorrow and please let us know how it goes Xx Jo
I found a random lump out of the blue which is what led me to the Drs, I'd had a pain in my ribs for a few days so was having a prod around in the shower and felt a lump underneath about the size of a 10p, perfectly round and I could grab hold of it, freaked me right out.
At the clinic It wasn't visible on the mammogram or ultrasound so they drained it with a syringe and it turned out to just be a fatty lump.
My cancer was found during the Ultrasound laying deep within my breast by sheer accident , nothing couldn't be felt nor did it show up on mammogram, as I said earlier Lumps are not always cancer.
Dig deep and you will get through this wait, one thing I've learned is no amount of stress will change things Xx
Lorna
I was a little older than when I went to the breast clinic as I had found a lump, it was a cyst which they drained, they also drained another one which I didnt even know about so it is possible to have more than one cyst.
As Jobey said, try not to run ahead of yourself, easier said than done, but it will not help you and will only add to your anxieties. Let us know how you get on if you want and remember we are all here for you whenever you need help and support
Sending you hugs

Hi Lorna, I know how hard it is to not think the worst but the likelyhood is these are harmless lumps.
Cancer doesn't grow at the kind of rate that would make a lump appear in the space of a week so whatever it is your feeling is most likely to be something that is totally normal for you.
Its impossible to describe what cancer feels like really, lumps come in all shapes and sizes, and often there is no lump at all, the rule of thumb is a hard irregular lump that doesn't move but that isn't always the case at all. my niece has many cysts and they feel like pushing on a water filled ballon and they move under your fingers.
Try not to run ahead of yourself, honestly I know how panicked you are right now but no amount of stress will change the outcome so think positive until you have reason not to be Xx Jo
Hi there Lorna,
try to remember most breast lumps are not due to cancer. You could go back to your GP for another exam and hopefully some reassurance.
Cysts and breast cancer lumps feel very different, have you tried the ‘ask the nurses’ part of the forum? Or phone the number at the top right,
wishing you all the best, sorry I can’t be any more help xxxxx
