Thanks for the link, I’m also enjoying Dr William Li’s research around food and cancer & how to add useful foods. Having a pretty healthy diet and lifestyle I have all my fingers and toes crossed I’ll manage without too many SEs like you - everyone keeps telling me how well I look (🙄 oh the irony)so hopefully my body will cope 🤞.
Thanks, we’ve always cooked from scratch and avoid heavily processed products. I just feel like me reducing dairy & meat, adding nuts, seeds, green tea and extra green & fruit is doable. I know chemo will be hard and I’m sure I’ll ease off a bit and resort to toast and honey (my default when poorly). I’m an organiser so feel better having a plan to work with ☺️
Hello @K8
I would agree with @MLT21 in terms seeking to make too many drastic changes midst treatment, but small changes are possible.
In terms of seeking to be more plant based I would look at eating more fruit, nuts and seeds as snacks (I’ve been keeping a bowl of grapes, or cherries next to the biscuit tin and it’s proved very distracting!)
Beware of falling into the trap of thinking that a lot of the plant based products now available are “healthier” than meat: the amount of processing involved in making them is just as harmful.
When feeding the family you could look to up your vegetable intake and bolognaises and chilli’s can be bulked up with vegetables and beans to up their plant based count.
Whilst you are in treatment be kind to yourself and don’t deny yourself treats from time to time! Wishing you all the best

Hi K8
This is a really good site re clean eating and cancer https://www.rebeccakatz.com/recipe-box-menu
My little bit of advice regarding changing your diet is to make sure that you are getting all the nutrients/vitamins/minerals, as it is generally not recommended to take these in supplement form while having chemo and RT. I was ‘fit and healthy’ prior to my diagnosis and generally ate a healthy balanced (less sugar and processed food) diet, so felt that I didn’t have to change much. However, I’m a believer that there is always room for improvement but didn’t want to impact the family too much. Always check with your Oncologist / BCN as they may have some good suggestions. I am coming to the end of my chemo now and have had very few SE’s.
I hope that helps. All the best.
Hi - I’m recovering from a lumpectomy and auxiliary clearance and preparing for chemo, radiotherapy & hormone treatment. I want to do everything I can to help my body through this and prevent reoccurrence so am doing a lot of research into integrative treatment and nutrition. Unlike cancer these are things I feel I have control over - which I really need right now! I have made a move away from sugar and alcohol and am considering a mainly plant based diet. As a mother of 2 boys who love all the foods I’m looking to avoid and a meat easing husband my question is how do I do this? Has anyone else found any good recipe resources that I can use so we are eating completely different food or do I have to just accept that’s the way it’s going to be? Thanks
