Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Melkylew
I found rhat doing breathing exercises helps with the fast heartbeats and tight chest. Breathing in and out slowly helps all the lung and heart area.
I do rhe arm exercises with it too. So when breathing in, palms facing upwards and inwards moving to your head and then when breahing out palms down and inwards slowly again. Do this about 10 times a few times a day, You will notice different very quick👍

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Hi ladies
My last chemo all going well is on 19th December!
Then an op to clear lymth nodes and pre cancerous cells on margins on the 22nd January and 15 rads after that, then Tamoxifen! Anything to get mended and have a better quality of life!

Im just waiting for SE to kick in after treatment yesterday. Had a great appetite since last nights fry up at 11.30pm and slept right through til 7.30am even on steroids! Just had rice pudding after a soak so lets see what sleep I get tonight!

Last cycle was mostly aches and psins and from the GCSF injections too, dry mouth and fatigue. Needed to keep an eue on temp too. Fingers crossed will be similar🤞🤞

Hopi g all you lovely ladies find ways to cope and get through the next 1/2 treatments as smooth as possible. Lots of love.xx

Hi Cathy and all ladies

Not long to go until you’re done! :).
Really sorry to hear you’ve been feeling rough, hopefully it’ll get better with each day that passes.
Unusually I’m 10 days after chemo and feeling really good, even popped away for the night down to the coast as a way of putting my finger up to chemo for a while lol.

You’re the same as me Cathy, surgery is next and then rad. Hope you’re appts all go well.

Sending you all loads of hugs and positive thoughts. Raising a glass to you who have finished chemo. X

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Good luck with your new treatment plan, Sib. I've had carboplatin from the start in my cocktail. Let's hope it suits you better. Shame it pushes your finish back, but it's worth it to improve your chances of completely getting rid of the blighter!

well done all the finishers!

Cant believe we are finally getting closer to the end of the chemo rollercoaster. My last is on 14th Dec(I hope) Then surgery and rads - the appointments are starting to pour in again. surgery clinic appointment next Thursday - hoping I will get a surgery date soon so I know when I aiming for.  Heart scan again week after.....

day 8 after chemo 5 today. Had a dreadful two days, day 6/7. Now lost my voice and emotional and short fused! Lower back has weird pulsing pain too. I will be glad when this is done!

Take care all, cx

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Hi Ladies

Congratulations to all you lovely ladies who have come to the end of your chemo.

Its such a huge achievement, so well done!

Please take things easy ( don't run before you can walk) and give yourself plenty of time to recover. For those of you who have to move onto rads, please don't worry. It comes with it's challenges, but I can think after chemo, its very doable.

Best wishes to you all

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Day 3 after last cycle!!! Doing ok though really achy today after the injection for white cells yesterday, first time I’ve been confined to the house because of this. Prob also because I traipsed around numerous garden centres yesterday looking for the perfect christmas tree then decided we’d decorate the tree and house when we got back so we’d be free to do something else on the weekend when I hopefully will have a bit more energy!!
Sib, you’re news has really cheered me up, I always find that when our docs make a plan and set up treatments it helps to remain focussed on doing all we can to keep this disease at bay. Good luck with the new regime Sib, Christmas is put in the middle to distract us all, thank goodness!!!
Sue58, congrats on finishing the last chemo, big relief. Because I start radiotherapy on 19th Dec I can give you the heads up before you start! My chemo nurse told me that we shouldn’t feel many side effects for 8-10 days then possible discomfort like sunburn, sore ribs etc as the radium has a ripple effect from the targeted site. May have a sore throat as time goes on depending where the site is, and tiredness could carry on for a few week after the cycle has finished. Everyone says it’s not a feeling of being unwell at all which will be welcome after yucky chemo. I’ll soon find out anyway. Hope I’m ok after it, hubby and I have booked to go to Iceland 3 wks after everything finishes!! Think the afternoon naps will still feature for a while lol!
Well done everyone, one day at a time x

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Hi Sib excellent news you can carry on fingers crossed it all goes well for you! I'm do pleased they found a drug suitable for you (I don't have the brac gene well I haven't been tested!) I know being TN it was important to me and my team that I carry on so I'm thrilled you can too, it's funny to think that you want to have more when something like this happens but you have to take everything offered don't you, I was told the same as you too!! Trust us to be that small percentage of unlucky buggers 😝🤔

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Hi Ladies, went to hospital today to discuss my treatment plan, a specialist team from the nearest largest cancer centre saw me, I was advised if I wanted I could stop chemo now, but I want to take all the treatment I can to reduce chance of reoccurrance. Its been decided i will start carboplatin next week , they hope I can tolerate 2 or 3 sessions which will be given on 3 weekly cycles. Any reaction will mean chemo stops permanently . Carboplatin is apparently thought to be good for brca2 gene cancers, which I have. Oncologist also said that they see the level of side effects and reactions i have experienced in less than less 10% of all chemo patients . Trust me!! So now looking at end of January to finish chemo. Trying to remain positive.
Love to you all. X

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Sue Ali great that toy have had your last one it's great feeling isn't it strange too when you don't have to have another one on chemo day I start my rads next Friday have had the scan tattoos etc we will see what that brings!!! I know tiredness is a SE but don't know about other stuff!
Sib I hope you get sorted soon so you can crack on and get this bit of it over x
So on five weeks or so my triathlon will be over, this thing has changed me so much as a person I don't think I'll ever be the old me again xx
Have a good day everyone and yes everyone gets paranoid about the temp spike thing I've been walking around aldi with a scarf over my nose and mouth incase I catch something and it been 4 weeks today since last chemo

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Hi mellylew,

ive had my 5th TCHP 6 days ago and I've definitely had a high heart rate when I've got out of bed quickly the morning. I've just gone back to bed for a sleep and waited for it to settle, which it has. Try not to panic as it can make it worse.  Deep breaths. Drink lots fluids.

I think if it persists despite rest and relaxation then ring your team for advice.

Hope your feeling better,

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Hi ladies. Haven’t been on here for a while. I’m on day 14 of my 5th cycle (2nd Docetaxol). Having lots of ectopic heartbeats over the last couple of days which are horrible. I’ve had all the heart tests previously which are fine. Just wondered whether any of you experienced these? I seem ok when I’m sat or lay down but when I get up and about I get them quite a lot.
Well done to all you ladies who are coming to the end of their chemo, my last one is next Wednesday!
Hoping the last one will be manageable.

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Thanks Jo...I also had my 5th and 6th docetaxel reduced by 20% and a few extra steroids to help after my 1st docetaxel made me feel absolutely lousy and so depressed..I really struggled with my first t..!! But the next one was so much more manageable..made a big difference.. so I'm hoping this last one will be the same..yeah I will be happy when I get to next weekend and taste buds should resume to normal...!! And all the aches and pains are gone (thank god for epsom salts) !! I didn't enjoy Fec much either as I was really nauseous with it...

Fairy and Helen , how did your chemos go on Monday?
Big hugs to you all xx

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Glad you’re feeling good at day 3 Sue. Thank you for being so positive, it’s makes all the difference hearing from someone who has just finished and is still smiling 🙂

Docetaxel is horrible! My first dose I ended up in hospital and with burns on my hands and mouth. They’ve reduced the dose by 20% this time around and it’s made such a difference. FEC was a walk in the park lol!!

I just dislike the day 7-14 thing, I feel overly paranoid and worried abounwn infection even though I haven’t had one in the last 5. It plays with your mind lol.

Here’s a huge hug and high five to the girls here. Keep going!! You’ve got this.

Lots of love

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Thanks Ali, Mary-Kate, Sib and Butterfly for your lovely comments and welcome Jo to the lovely August thread..

I do appreciate that some of you who started beginning of August with your chemo have had a delay or two or have had hospital admissions and I know that must be frustrating and I know I was lucky in that respect, but there is light at the end of the tunnel very soon for you albeit a week or two later than planned and even tho my chemo has finished I'm still thinking of you all nearing the end and crossing fingers all goes well..!!

Day 3 today and feeling good but tired..thanks to the steroids..!! Hoping side effects will be easier on me like last chemo was... manageable...

Jo how did you find the Fec-T chemo ? Did you have any problems with the docetaxel ? I hope your surgery goes well. I had a lumpectomy with lymph nodes removed in June so just have radiotherapy to go in January... been a long 8 months for me with so many emotional ups and downs, but I think every lady on this forum has gone through this as well...some of the ladies have had a tougher journey than me, but they are a very strong, positive group...
Hope everybody is well and good luck to those with treatment this week..Sib I hope you have a good week and get the right chemo to get you through this..x
Ali, good luck for surgery..hope all goes well for you...
Hugs to you all xx

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Hi ladies 🙂
My name is Jo and I started chemo back in August too.
I’ve got 13 days to go until my last one!! I’m on FEC-T for breast cancer. So it’s chemo, surgery, radio.
It’s been a journey for sure bumpy, teary, frustration etc. The lump has shrunk dramatically, so I’m preparing for a mastectomy but praying for a lumpectomy on the side lol!
How does it feel sue to be done??
Does anyone else live in fear of their temp spiking too?
Thank you for reading ❤️

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Sue, last chemo, that's great news I'm so pleased for you. I hope your SEs are minimal.

I'm day 13 from my last dose and still trying to shake this cold. It's frustrating as I have minimal SEs from the actual chemo. Anyway, I'm finally starting to feel better. I'm looking forward to next week when I can start taking vitamins again. Lumpectomy on 18 December is next for me.

Hope all you ladies are doing well xx

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Abraxane is very effective in the family of taxs bilut made up with a human protein product instead of solvent which they think is what I was allergic to, my onc explained this all to me in great detail because I had two reactions to doxy he thought it would be irresponsible to try palitaxol and went straight for the abraxane for me he refused to cancel out chemo as I was TN and didn't want to give me a full regime abraxane is normally used to treat secondary and mestatic breast cancer only to be used in primary in extreme circumstances which is what our case was I know exactly how you are feeling right now I did too I was terrified there were no options left for me now or in the case of a dreaded recurrence your MDT will have a back up plan with another drug suitable for you xxxx

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Thanks for info Mishy, im very down as my chemo has been stopped twice now andcway past 1sr finish date and wont make 2nd finsh date either. OH and youngest son think i just need to accept tnis an move on, but its not that easy, very isolated just now.
Doctor I saw yesterday adviced there a few more options but some may need approval from a committee (probably due to cost) so more delay possibly . Though my biggest fear is that the taxol chemo appears to give the best outcome against 10 year survival rates for my type of cancer.
I know tjis would be hard but its so much more difficult than i thought. X

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Next dose for me today. All went well through my new port. A bit bruised and feels funny where the cannula goes over the collar bone under the skin urgh! But I guess I’ll get used to it. As long as it doesn’t give me any issues I’ll be happy. Took steroids early, 8am and 12.30 so hoping to get a decent night. Managed until half 4 then 6am last night so not bad. Was then buzzing! Enjoyed food for the last couple of days too - before the taste, appetite and mouth all head the wrong way!

No tummy issues...yet!

Hope all August ladies manage to have a decent weekend. Thank you for keeping me company. Love and hugs. Xx

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Hi,
I had my chemo on Thursday. This time the steroids have sent me spinning. 4 hours sleep in Wednesday night, only 2 hours last night! Hoping I can sleep tonight but my dose only starts reducing down tomorrow so not overly optimistic! Been busy busy shopping for Xmas, cooking, and running round like a headless chicken!

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Sib that's what happened to me on the Doxetaxal they might give you abraxane which I had after the doxy was halted its not used as often but if you can't tolerate the taxols they sometimes use it the reason I wasn't allowed that drug you've been allergic to is because it has similar ingredients to the doxy, it's an awful experience mu onc says there are two types of reaction to chemo I had both types in two sessions which was my my chemo was halted so don't worry they will find a replacement for you if necessary xxx

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Sib..sending lots if hugs to you..that must have been awful for you today...you might have to change to abraxane like mishy did..she had the same problems I think.....thinking of you. Xx. you will get there very soon. Xx

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

So sorry to hear that Sib, how disappointing for you, not to mention quite frightening for you having an allergic reaction like that. Sounds like you’ve got a good team around you - hope they work out what’s the best thing for you now.
Ali - hope you’re starting to feel better now. And hope treatment has gone well for those having it this week. HelenP - I love your swan analogy, made me smile - although I can’t say I’m looking or feeling graceful at the moment!
Hoping you all have restful weekends, looking after yourselves. Hugs xxx

Well 3rd weekky paclitaxel and had a allergic reaction again!! (Whent purple couldnt breathe) wonderful staff got me stabilsed really quickly but chemo halted . A meeting of my team is needed before they decided on where we go from here and treatment going forward upset and disappointed no end in sight.

I stsrted on 4th Sept so I look on this thread a lot when Im not working and I admire you all.
My next Dovetaxol and Herceptin is in 6 days so I'm hoping to work and chillax when I can.
To the ladies on their last one, it may take a while to sink in that you have finished your chemo but then realise theres maybe still ops and rads (me) but at least we are halfway there. Im not sure if its sunk in about any of this yet, hoping I dont have a big meltdown at some stagexxx

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Lovely post Helen 🙂

Last chemo, doesn't that sound good. Good luck Monday. I've just put a post on the September thread about supplements and food to help the immune system - might be worth a go with manuka honey, turmeric, ginger and lots of garlic to keep those bacteria and viruses at bay! Glad your white cells are still battling on!

Hope you feel recovered over the weekend - that chemical hangover feeling isn't fun.

My last chemo is in 3 weeks, then I have surgery in January I hope - haven't got any details yet. The original plan was lumpectomy and lymph nose clearance(multiple nodes affected). My lump is not palpable now so I'm glad they put that marker in. Bit frightened that they are not doing full mastectomy, but relieved in some ways too as my body confidence has never been high.  Radiotherapy is also planned to happen in March time.

Keep going ladies, you are a brace bunch, we're all feeling the strain but not too far to go now.

lots of love x

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Ali, glad you're out of hospital, hope you feel better soon, just think every day you'll start to come out of this horrible haze and will be able to do more 'normal' things as each day starts.

I was admitted overnight on Saturday night for the same thing, they did bloods and my neutrophil count was good so they sent me home and said my white cells were good enough to fight the infection without antibiotics so that was a relief.  Good to know my blood count has sufficiently recovered the weekend before the next chemo at least!  No sleep at all though in hosp as the IV machine kept me awake all night, took me til Monday to catch up.

Am having the last chemo on Monday and still feel a bit 'chemically', can't wait to get it done, then I start radiotherapy on 19th December.  I was offered a break til the New Year but I just want it all done asap, have been offered an extra 'bonus' week of radiotherapy so will have 4 weeks instead of 3 weeks now, I'll take all the treatment I'm offered...I want to throw everything at this disease!

I'm so buoyed by you all, we should be really proud of ourselves.  Even though outwardly we may look like graceful swans to others, we all know how much we're kicking those legs below the surface!  We're all within weeks of starting the next chapter so lets pat ourselves on the back for keeping our chins up in between the setbacks and humps in the road, we're all the stronger for it.

One day at a time ladies. xx

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Sue and Mary-Kate - sorry the T is making you feel down in the dumps. I always get a bit weepy day 4/5, you tend to feel better from days 8-10 onwards so hopefully your mood will lift too.

Im also on the September forum(I started chemo 31/8 and 1/9), and we like to have a chemomoon or a treat outing in those days of feeling better to try and give us a lift and some good times to remember during the next chemo slump.

I used to go for a walk every day even after chemo as it's  meant to help with the aches and pains, but the last round I was too lethargic and dizzy to leave the house till day 7. I do walk for 30-60 mins every day otherwise and I think it's does help me feel better all round, mentally and physically.

Well, goodnight and sleep well I hope,

cath x

Butterfly - I am so have DTP(and C) tomorrow. Good luck and hope yours goes well. Sounds like they have some pretty effective plans to deal with the spread to your sternum.  It will feel better when you know what the plan is and can get onwith the next stage of treatment.

Re: AUGUST '17 Chemo Starters

Hello again ladies. Thanks for all the good wishes. I've finally just got home from the hospital. Again I seem to have had a non specific infection so have had antibiotics and fluids and have been sent home with more antibiotics. It feels like a cold/cough but also like I'd been hit by a bus. I'm feeling a little better today thankfully. I'm not neutrophic although there is still a chance I might become so unfortunately. Still now I'm home resting. I hope all of you ladies are doing ok xx
