Re: Anybody Starting Chemo Today 1st Aug?

Hi KCS

Thanks for your message & I'm so sorry it has taken me a while to reply, but I havent been on here much since my 2nd round of chemo, as I've been working between treatments (when I can).

Hows things with you?  Have the side effects started to settle down now?

Its been a bit mixed for me - the 3 doses of EC got worse each round & i've ended up with a sore left arm (but no cording), but it still feels bruised off the infusion. I felt really poorly by round 3, and just felt awful for about 24-36 hours around day 5, then I started to feel better.  With the doc, I havent felt poorly so far, but other side effects are now kicking in - loads of mouth ulcers which are lasting a while, tastebuds have totally lost the plot this week, mini nosebleeds & a cough, plus the tiredness is getting worse and I have a daily afternoon nap 😴 i've managed to avoid any nausea & sickness all the way so far 🤞🙏

I luckily havent had any aches or pains from the doc, but i ached all over from the filgrastim injections - i have managed to combat these though with an antihistamine at the same time as the injection 😀 it has definitely made a difference taking it around the same time, rather than sometime on the same day.

I was told by my oncology team a few weeks ago, that they normally see it where if you are ok with one drug, then it tends to flip with the other drug, so I was really prepared to feel very ill with the doc, but looks like the poorly feelings have happened with EC for me.

I'm now 5 doses down & 1 to go, which is currently planned towards the end of November - treatment 5 was delayed cos of my bloods, so i'm prepared that this could happen again with cycle 6.  I havent heard anything yet about my radiotherapy appointments but guessing that this will now happen in January due to the Christmas holidays. How many doses of chemo/doc do you have to go?

Hope you can enjoy your weekend whatever you may be up to 😊 please let me know how you are getting on.

Take care

xxx

Hey Cocktails,

Just wondering how you are finding Doc compared to EC? I wasn’t too bad on EC but this first round of Doc has floored me with pain!

Hi All.

Although this is my first post, I have been reading through lots of the topics on here over the past couple of months.  The knowledge, experience and never ending support and encouragement is wonderful and reading everyone's journey's is amazing. I start 6 cycles of EC mid August after a recent lumpectomy. My Mum has just completed cycle 12 of 16 and will have surgery later this year. Although rubbish, wonderful to have my Mum to go through this with. How are all you August Chemo starters getting on? Jxx

Re: Anybody Starting Chemo Today 1st Aug?

Hi

How did you get on today? Hope it went as well as it can for you.

I'm not starting today, but i'm also starting this Friday (5th). I'm having 3 lots of EC, followed by 3 lots of Docetaxel, then radio & tablets.

I had my bloods & cold cap done last week when I had a visit to the unit, so at least I know where i'm going on Friday.

I've also heard about dark nail varnish so will definitely be trying that, but havent heard about fasting, or icing your hands & feet during treatment 😳

Yes, i'm also dreading it & all the side effects that will come with it. I'm trying to be as prepared as possible (ginger biscuits, mints, baby toothbrush, no flavour toothpaste, beanies, hats, wig, thermometer etc) but keeping everything crossed its not as bad as i'm thinking - the hair loss is my biggest concern at the moment.

Good luck, we can do this xx

Not today but my first chemo is August 5th. It's taxotere and cytoxan, 4 sessions three weeks apart. Just got a call for my bloodwork and cold cap appointment for August 4th. I dread it but I know it's the right thing to do. I'm going to start fasting on Thursday and will continue as long as I don't feel weak until end of the day Saturday. Painting my toenails a dark purple today and during chemo will also ice my hands and feet. That's about it. I know it's going to be massively uncomfortable but I'm trying to avoid as much side effects as possible.

Anybody Starting Chemo Today 1st Aug?

Hey everyone,

I start my first EC today and not sure how I feel, but nervous but kinda glad it’s now happening. I’m only taking boiled sweets but any other tips would be great. Good luck if you are starting today xxx
