Cassie I am so sorry that you are having such a torrid time with ED and do hope that she will come round! You are so sensible to try not to take it personally you are such a rock for her and grandson.
Christmas is such a difficult time for us all this year and we will all be glad when it is over!😢
Stay strong! 💪🏼 X
Good Morning Ladies
It is indeed difficult times, ED had taken a downward spiral as we cannot now go to her house for dinner on Christmas day as planned she initially seemed OK on Saturday but now has removed her decorations and says she wants nothing from us ! We planned to swap some festive food and presents and do a zoom Christmas lunch and play an online game together, but she is having none of it and will not answer any calls from me. I hope she will come round it's not personal obviously but it seems she is taking it that way.
I have had my first Covid jab as most frontline staff felt a bit headachy yesterday and tired but OK apart from that. Work remains incredibly busy I am currently working on Sundays to help with social distancing in the workplace, I have drawn the line about working this Sunday though. I shall be trying to battle in the supermarket at some point because I had not planned to be home on Christmas day, I will deliver dinner for my brother on Christmas day too lovewine, it is the best solution.
Stay safe ladies and try to have as nice a Christmas as possible x
Good Afternoon Ladies,
What difficult times and decisions we are facing! 😬
Lovewine I think that’s a wonderful solution to deliver Christmas dinner to your parents and elderly aunt! I am surprised that they aren’t offering your mum the vaccine the same time as your dad! MIL who is 94, had hers yesterday and has been fine.
Joan I am glad to hear that YD is coping better but sorry to hear about ED’s accident! Were there any witnesses when she fell? Hopefully it will have been just concussion from the accident that caused the memory loss.
Sorry Joan just re read your post and you said there were no witnesses!!😳
Cassie I hope that YD is still living at home so at least you have each other ?
Wildpurl I hope that you have managed to see your son and his partner before the latest tier 4 arrival! 🤔
Not quite the Christmas we had all planned!
Ladies I wish you all a bit of merriment this Christmas and a much more hopeful new year! 🎄🍹
Stay safe and well! X
Good morning ladies, after a longish absence from the board. After yesterdays announcements I know that Cassie and Wildpurl will now be in Tier 4- and your YS as well Lovewine-and many of your Xmas plans may have to be rethought. We came out of Tier 3 last week and judging from the number of people in coffee shops yesterday, quite a few are making the most of it. We continue to be very cautious, and our Xmas plans were already limited to a cup of tea and a mincepie with YD and family, though now wondering whether that may now be with us sitting outside and watching the GCn open their presents through the window. There seems to be something of a cluster in their tiny community, and Covid in both the children’s schools- GS has been isolating for the past 10 days so we haven’t been going over there. Fortunately YD now seems to be quite a bit better, I guess the medication is at last doing its work, so we were not as worried about that as we would have been earlier. We have had some worries about ED, who came off her bike a couple of weeks ago, coming back from work, we don’t know why, because she has no memory of the incident or for around the 8 hours before and after, and there were no witnesses, she was just found and taken to A& E. She had a brain scan that night which fortunately was clear but has an appointment with a neurologist on Tuesday, who will hopefully say it is just concussion. She has been able to do a few hours work this past week and has a weeks leave anyway this week so hopefully after Xmas she will be able to get back to her normal work. Her main anxiety has been that she was due to do two weeks on a general ward just after Xmas and was concerned that she might not be able to cope, and make bad decisions. Fortunately it has now been agreed that she will not be doing this. It would be worrying enough ordinarily, but with Covid soaring in London now, the pressures on staff are again extraordinary.
Sorry to go on for so long. Hope everybody is staying safe and will be able to enjoy your Xmases, limited as they are going to be.
Hello ladies , hope you are all well and ready for Christmas - it will certainly be a different one this year that’s for sure , mum and dad have decided to stay at home after all and my elderly aunt is doing the same - we will deliver a Christmas dinner to both of their houses at least ! Dad should be getting the vaccine anytime as they rang from the surgery and asked if he wanted it and to expect it soon - mum is 4 months short of 80 and his carer but Isn’t in the first lot to be done .
whatever your plans ladies stay safe and well and enjoy your Christmas 🎄🎅🏻!!
Good morning ladies , glad you are all keeping well and your families too .
Rosie your plans for Christmas are the best you can get this year I think ☹️, you will of course miss your lovely family in France and hopefully it won’t be too long until you can see them in the new year 🤞. It will be lovely to see YS and DD even in these restrictive times .
We are having YS back for about 2 weeks over the Christmas holiday and ES and DIL for Christmas Day , mum and dad are going to my sisters but only for about 2 hours for their lunch ! My elderly aunt is staying on her own which I find very sad - but that’s what she wants to do , we will take her Christmas dinner down to her house 😪. We always go to my sisters in the afternoon and join my mum and dad , nieces etc but that’s out of the question now .
Joan I hope you managed to sort out your new laptop and you are not too full on with more work ! How is your YD now ? Will you be joining them for Christmas Day ?
Cassie you are a busy lady with your knitting projects - so good to have a hobby as there hasn’t been much else to do !
Wildpurl hope you are well .
We are meeting ES and DIL this morning for a canal side walk which will be nice but muddy ! We had so much rain Thursday and Friday parts of our area were flooded yesterday !
Enjoy the rest of the weekend ladies !
Good Afternoon ladies hope you are all keeping well?
Joan what a relief that ED is back at work! 😅 So sorry to hear about YD though and that you are having to be involved so much during the week. I do hope that you have managed to set up your laptop! Well done for finishing your research project!🤗
Hope OH is keeping well?
Lovewine hope OH enjoyed the experience of jury service?
Thank goodness your parents got their flu jab eventually! Will they be having the COVID vaccine? I hope your mum is bearing up.
Like you Lovewine I am not a lover of dark mornings and even less so of evenings! 🙄
Cassie it’s good to have some hobbies it sounds like you are being very productive with your knitting! Hope your family are keeping well.
Wildpurl hope all is well with you. Will you be seeing your son at Christmas?
DH was meant to go for colonoscopy on Thursday but they gave him an appointment at Redditch which is 45 mins away from here. He would have to have taken public transport as I haven’t driven in the UK for 10 years and haven’t driven at all since we left Cyprus last November! They wanted me to accompany him but understandably are not allowing anyone other than patients into the hospital so I would have to have waited outside for at least 2 hours! Redditch hospital is miles away from any civilisation! 😳 As Joan will know he couldn’t have possibly gone all that way on public transport after taking the pre medication! 🤦🏻♀️
Fortunately they managed to change it to Worcester next Thursday! I have ordered him a taxi and it will take less than 10 mins! I will then go on the bus later and bring him back in a taxi!
I dragged DH along on my walk this am as it was a sunny morning and we were lucky enough to catch sight of a kingfisher!😄 He was the other side of the river so we couldn’t get a decent photo of him.
I walked to town this afternoon as I wanted to get some charity Christmas cards from the Guild Hall. Town was very busy with some stalls in the high street pedestrian area. There was a good atmosphere though with some buskers dressed in Victorian costume. It was good to see a glimpse of normality and to be fair, most people did wear masks.
We have considered long and hard what to do about Christmas, clearly our French family are ruled out of the equation this year! 😢 We are taking the motorhome to Plymouth the weekend before Christmas, unless the tiers change, and staying on a site, DH will play golf with YS and we will have a meal in the evening with them.
We will then go home for a night and then go to a site in Yorkshire that is in tier 2 and wait there until Christmas Eve when we will be permitted to go to DD and family in tier 3. We will stay 2 nights on her drive in the motorhome and then return home before we must resume life in the tier system!😬
Let’s hope that the vaccine is rolled out quickly!
Stay well ladies!
Good Morning Ladies,
Sorry to hear about your poor dog Rosie. Glad your daughter is recovering Joan, it has been a long haul for so many but hopefully we can all see a light at the end of the tunnel now. I hope OH does not get too bored on jury service lovewine, I took knitting and a paper back when I had to go, it lasted a couple of weeks, it was very tiring traveling to Southwark crown court every day and listening to other jury members who could not make any decisions, when the case was very black and white.
I am on annual leave again this week its been a total yawn except for my hobbies and some online Christmas shopping, I am not sure I will get a delivery date for the groceries though, no luck so far.
The painting is about 2/3rds complete I cannot paint if the weather is dull or YD is working on the living room table so time is limited. The knitting project is coming along hat, bootees and half of the blanket are complete, I will finish then on to the little jacket, there is no rush as the baby is not due until spring.
ED has also sent me a link for knitting blankets for premature babies which they can then take home, I have ordered some multi coloured yarn which would not normally be my choice but the pattern is so plain that the recommend I felt it needed something to jazz it up.
Keep well ladies, back to work for me on Monday x
Good morning ladies , as you say Rosie I just can’t believe how quickly the time is passing !
Rosie I am so sorry to hear your lovely dog has passed away , I know how much she meant to you , it’s very hard losing a pet as we know sadly . What a good age though for a large dog in a hot climate .
my elderly dog is doing ok but at 14 years old I am also trying to prepare for the day when she sadly leaves us 😪.
I enjoy your daily photos and the riverside goings on !
Joan I am sorry to hear your YD is struggling , it’s very difficult at the moment in so many ways - what an awful year . Good news though your ED is well and negative .
YS has regular covid tests working at imperial college and has always been negative and ES had a test last week as a department in his workplace had several cases , he was negative too thank goodness .
OH starts jury service next Monday which will be an experience ! He could be doing it for a day or several weeks so we shall see !
my dad is very very slowly improving but I don’t think he will recover his previous health after the 2 operations he had in the summer - he still can’t walk unaided and has the district nurse several times a week - mum and dad both had a flu jab finally last week - a separate nurse came to the house to do it !
Cassie and Wildpurl I hope you and your families are well .
I better take my dogs out now - it’s not very appealing in the dark and cold winter mornings ☹️!
Take care ladies 💐 x
Just a quick update. ED now fully recovered from Covid, back at work tomorrow and her partner, amazingly, didnt catch it. Life pretty busy here, YD very fragile so still going over there every weekday and trying to fit work on around it. Got my big research report finished today so it will go off tomorrow and have treated myself to a decent laptop so I can work from YDs when necessary. Only just plucked up enough courage to take it out of the box, I’m not very confident about setting up but it will have to be faced.
Hope you and your families are all well ladies and coping with this second lockdown.
The days seem to turn into weeks which change into months and gradually this surreal year is drawing to a close! 🤦🏻♀️
Cassie did you finish your painting by numbers and your knitting? It’s good to have a project on the go. Hope the family are all well?
Lovewine how is your elderly dog now? Have you got any projects on the go?
Hopefully work will pick up for you in December.🤔 I do hope that your parents managed to get their flu vaccine?
Wildpurl I am glad you got away to Scotland and enjoyed good weather! It sounds that working at home and only one day in the office is perfect for you!
Joan indeed it is good news that a vaccine is soon to be available!
Glad to hear that YD is beginning to show signs of recovery it must be a huge strain on SIL and you and OH supporting the grandchildren!m
Sorry to hear about ED but as you say at least her symptoms are mild and hopefully her partner will steer clear of the virus!
Gosh I wouldn’t fancy a colonoscopy without sedation, you were very brave!😬🙀
We had the very sad news that our dog in Cyprus, that our landlady took on has died! 😢 She was 10.5 years which in the Cyprus climate is a good age for a large black dog. She wasn’t ill and passed away peacefully. Needless to say it has upset us both. Particularly me, as she was my companion during the cancer journey! Also I have never stopped feeling guilty and thinking about her most days, having to let her go was painful, although I know it was the best thing for her! I had left part of my heart in Cyprus!💔😥
YS’s youngest daughter who is 13, has had to self isolate for the second time! She was feeling unwell last week so DIL took her for a test but thankfully she tested negative!
GD in Newcastle has also spent 2 weeks self isolating!
Let’s hope that the vaccine will work and we can get back to a more normal life in the spring!
Love to you all, x
Good news that a vaccine is on its way. Hope people don’t go mad and ignore all the protective measures we need to continue with until the whole population are clearly protected. Indeed I think it is even more necessary now, it would be terrible for even more people to die when there is, at last, light at the end of this particular tunnel. And what a relief that Biden got in. Just hoping Trump doesn’t do anything awful before he is inaugurated, even if he cant bring himself to give in gracefully.
On the home front life has been challenging largely because of younger daughter’s illness, but she seems to be on an upward trajectory although there’s a long way to go. As if that wasn’t enough our other daughter tested positive for Covid 9 days ago having caught it, as did several others staff and patients, from a patient. Fortunately her symptoms have been fairly mild, the worst seems to be fatigue. Also fortunately, her partner, who is diabetic, does not seem to have succumbed yet, so we keep our fingers crossed. I had a colonoscopy last week, which thankfully showed no recurrence of the bowel cancer. It is not an experience I wish to repeat, though, since I wasn’t able to have sedation, for reasons I won’t go into. I have written to my surgeon, who didn’t do the procedure, not to complain but to suggest a couple of ways in which the process could be changed, so that other patients don’t have the same experience.
Lovely to hear from you Wildpurl. Are you still able to go into work once a week or has that stopped because of lockdown. I expect the gym has stopped.
Great that some of you ladies managed a holiday before we were locked down again, although what a shame about the weather on yours Lovewine, and your dog’s infection. I hope you enjoyed your week off Cassie, even though you weren’t going away. Loving your photos Rosie.
Look after yourselves, ladies
Good afternoon ladies , hope you are all well and coping yet again with the new restrictions about to begin☹️.
Rosie looks like you had a good trip last week , I enjoyed your photos as always ! I suppose that will be it for a while 🤔, hopefully you will be able to continue shortly .
I am watching the U.S election and finding it quite fascinating , can’t believe it’s so close after all !
Wildpurl lovely to hear from you , you sound busy with your knitting projects and work etc .
Joan hope all is well with you and your family and Cassie too ?
I think this lockdown people are feeling much more despondent about it all / certainly the people I know are , the winter months don’t help either !
I continue to be very quiet with work ☹️- I can’t see it getting better any time soon really .
stay safe ladies .
Hi everyone, I can’t remember when I last posted but have been catching up with posts from time to time. I’m sorry to hear about the family concerns some of you have had, the trouble is that anxiety is higher than usual because of the uncertainty and the restrictions and then to have family worries on top of that is very difficult.
I am glad you managed to see your family and have some trips in the motorhome rosie.
we went on a week's holiday in Scotland in September and although we could not visit family in their houses because of new restrictions we were lucky enough to have great weather and went walking with family and on our own. We stayed in a premier inn and had a big breakfast every day then either ate in the restaurant or bought sandwiches from Tesco’s in the evening. We had a lovely break, I am glad we decided to go, as it would be impossible now.
i am still working from home and going into the office once a week, it is the best of both worlds really. The office is very quiet, so I don’t feel the risk is very high at all.
we are walking every weekend still and I am still able to go to the gym so have something of a routine. I’m still knitting and have knitted a few warm sweaters as it is colder at home than working in the office.
we are just living quietly from day to day, I think we are very lucky as our situation is not too bad compared with many.
sending hugs to you all
Hello ladies - pretty much the same here too! Just plodding along trying to make the best of things .. my work is still at half and I think it will be the same for a while sadly .
we had our trip to Norfolk as our Wales holiday was cancelled - wasn’t that great as it rained the entire time so consequently my elderly dog got a nasty urine infection so we returned home slightly earlier and then had a large vets bill for antibiotics for her !
Rosie glad you enjoyed your trip - lovely photos ! And so nice to see DD and family , have a lovely time down at Plymouth - I think it’s going to be a long winter ☹️!
Joan and Wildpurl I hope all is well with you snd your families .
Cassie enjoy the rest of your week off - at least you have plenty to keep you occupied !
All the same here nothing to report except YD has gone to Corfu for a few days, she is so bored with working from home since March. I can't say I blame her originally she was booked for Tuscany but the restrictions changed so the day before departure it was all change. We are still trying to live as normal a life as possible just like everyone else I guess. I hope everyone is baring up, I am on leave this week because I need to use up my holiday entitlement nothing planned but have met up with ED for a walk in the park and lunch, I will be seeing her and GS on Friday. YB is due for dinner tomorrow so that should keep me out of trouble. I have started a paint by numbers kit which is coming along and may start some knitting at some point one of the GP's is expecting.
Hello ladies I hope that this finds you and your families well. It is several weeks since we have heard from Cassie or Wildpurl!
We had a very pleasant trip to the North and managed to see DD briefly on the way back!
The weather was very kind to us and we did a lot of walking which sadly doesn’t seem to have reduced the waistline! 😔
We are hopefully off again on Friday down to Plymouth to see YS and family! 😀
From here we are taking advantage of an end of season 3 nights and ferry crossing to the Isle of Wight! We have motorhome friends there!
This is our last planned trip of the year as everything is still very much up in the air and a lot of campsites closed for the winter!
We were both due to go to Cyprus early November but have postponed until January.
Lovewine I do hope that your dad is making good progress! 😏
Obviously none of us can make any plans for Christmas. I am very doubtful that ES and family will be able to get to England until next year!😒 I am just so thankful for the week we were able to spend with them in September!
Joan I do hope that your YD is in a better emotional state? Also that ED is keeping well on the frontline.
Great News Joan! 😄😅
Lovewine we are off to the stormy Yorkshire tomorrow on our way North!
Let’s hope our journeys go well and that the weather will improve! 😏
Great News Joan! 😄😅
Lovewine we are off to the stormy Yorkshire tomorrow on our way North!
Let’s hope our journeys go well and that the weather will improve! 😏
Joan that’s good news about YD , what a relief ! I hope things improve for the family - it’s all such a worry with jobs etc at the moment and of course with all the pressure that brings .. can’t remember if I mentioned but OHs company he works for have made redundancies - they supply the car industry and that’s not good at the moment , with Covid and brexit it’s a disaster .Joan you asked about my drop in work - it’s a combination of a lot of people working from home so therefore not sending the awful double cuff work shirts ! And also people not going out as much socialising or having visitors - so not as much bedlinen !
we are off to stormy Norfolk shortly !!
Joan I am so sorry that your YD is still awaiting her test results for something that affects the whole family! I sincerely hope that it is not Positive and you can get on with your lives. Sorry to hear that she has also suffered a psychological meltdown and that SIL is trying to manage a new job. It certainly sounds like you have had your hands full! 😔
Keep us posted!
what a shame about your trip to Wales, Lovewine but how lucky that your friend was able to offer her chalet, and in a lovely area too, so you will have at least a few days break. I’m sorry that your dad is not yet back on an even keel but good that the wound is healing, that can be such a worry. Do you know your business hasnt picked up more, is it because people have been furloughed so they have more time to do their own ironing, or is it more about cutting back on outgoings?
Rosie, you must be relieved your quarantine is nearly over. What a shame that you will be restricted in seeing your family in the north east, but the rates of infection there are scary. I dont think my brother and SIL will be worried about not being able to meet people in the pub, or the early closing, but they are very upset about not being able to see their young grandchildren, who they usually see frequently.
We are currently in self imposed isolation - I have no idea why the typeface is now different- waiting for YD to get her test results back. I do t think she has covid, its more likely a nasty cold but she has had a cough for a few days and was running a temperature on Saturday so had a test on Sunday morning. She was told it would be back within 24 to 48 hours, but of course it isnt. So the children are off school, and her husband off work, which is worrying considering its a new job and also, he recently discovered, a zero hours contract, so hoping the test result comes through soon, and of course that its negative. We are isolating because we had a lot of contact with YD last week. Unfortunately she’s had a bit of a psychological meltdown so is signed off work, and we have been going over there every weekday. Although we have been as careful as possible, sanitising etc, social distancing has not been easy. So if she has it odds on we will too. However there is no way we could have done differently. So keep your fingers crossed for us ladies.
Thanks Rosie ! It will be just nice to get away 😲! I really hope your trip isn’t cancelled either 🤞!
Lovewine I am so sorry that your trip has been cancelled but glad that you have an alternative! I keep waiting for the camp sites to be closed! The rules are very strict around Newcastle and households won’t be able to meet in any settings!🤦🏻♀️😬
At least it’s a positive that your dad’s operation sites are at last healing at last!
Have a much needed rest in Cromer!
Hello ladies , well I am very disappointed - my much looked forward to trip to the Gower was cancelled over the weekend ☹️.. I spent most of the time yesterday trying to find somewhere else to stay in Norfolk or Suffolk which so far seems to be fairly ok to book ! Had no luck at all until a friend of mine offered her chalet in Cromer for just £100 for 3 nights ! It’s a bit basic but I don’t care- looks over the sea and it’s surrounded by woodland and we can take the dogs 👍🐶🐶- so South Wales will have to be next year I hope !
my dad continues to be a worry , some days he’s very much improved and the next he’s back to the start again , he has the district nurse still several times a week but she seems happy with the healing of the operation sites at least .
Rosie I think it must be very challenging self isolating for 14 days , but at least you have another trip to plan for and look forward too which I’m sure really helps ! What an awful year it’s been and still no end in sight .☹️
Joan I hope you are well and able to get out and about a bit too .
Cassie have you had any recent trips ? I expect work is very busy for you at the moment .
Wildpurl i expect you are continuing to work from home ?
I am still at half capacity with my business , I think it’s going to take a long time if ever to recover to be honest ☹️.
Take care ladies !
Good Afternoon ladies,
I hope this finds you all well! ?
Lovewine I do hope that your dad is continuing to make steady progress and that your mum is feeling stronger.
I am hoping that your Gower holiday will still be able to go ahead with so much of Wales having extra restrictions! ? Life is getting very difficult to plan anything without the knowledge that it is more than likely to get cancelled! ?
Lovely photograph by the way of ES and DIL! ?
We are hopefully going to be able to go ahead with our Northumberland/ Edinburgh trip on Saturday! I have booked online tickets for Edinburgh Zoo and a Whisky Factory as we can get a bus from near the campsite!
DD has had 3 members of staff that have tested positive the whole of Year 3 was sent home on Friday!? When I spoke to her yesterday I said we will get to see you somehow on the way home. The rules don’t allow us to go to her house or meet in an outside space- she said, “just come to school mum anybody can come in! “ Her head is allowing parents to enter the building without masks! ?
Last week the school were my sister works sent all Year7 home as a pupil had tested positive! She had been doing supply in that year on Monday! She was on tenterhooks all week as my niece was getting married on Saturday!
It was done under strict COVID regulations and everyone had to wear a mask with the exception of the bride and groom. There was no reception afterwards!? She is planning a church blessing and a reception in May next year! My sister said if anyone broke the rules the wedding would be illegal! She was too scared to take a photograph on her phone! ?
They were allowed a photographer, who was her late best childhood friend’s husband. Not much of an album with the guests masked! 😷😷🤦🏻♀️
Joan glad you got to meet up with your friends in Devon!
We are now on day 10 of quarantine and it has felt like along time since we left France! ?
The Amazon deliveries have dropped off a little! I added to it a little and got myself another 1000 piece puzzle to get me through this week and even ordered a Dennis the Menace, men’s size, tee shirt for ES who was a great fan for a Christmas present!?
We have used Click and Collect for our weekly shopping. DH has gone alone to collect it.
You gave me a bit of a shock with this photo, Lovewine, I thought it was ES son’s wedding and that I had completely missed/forgotten about it!!! What a shame that the number of guests had to be so small, but they must be so pleased that it happened at last. Sorry to hear that your dads recovery is being quite slow, very stressful for you all. Hope things start to improve. Great that you have a holiday to look forward too, you certainly need it. Hope the weather will be kind to you.
Rosie, hope the quarantine isnt too arduous but it was clearly worth it to see your family in France and have a lovely holiday. How are you proposing to keep yourselves occupied. What about groceries? Hope the Amazon deliveries slow down. Hope your niece’s ceremony goes ahead on Saturday and that you get to see your daughter on your northern trip. We have family in the north east as well. My SIL is naturally upset about not being able to see her grandchildren, but equally, they have increasingly concerned about people not behaving sensibly.
We had a lovely day on Saturday, visiting friends in Devon we havent seen for a year. The way things are going it may be another year before we see them again. Starting to get worried again about ED, who is likely to be back on the frontline again if there is a surge in hospital admissions. Things are just so uncertain for us all at the moment.
Good morning ladies , Rosie so glad you made it to France and spent time with your family ! Did you get a bike for GS ? I saw some of your photos on FB and he looks a lovely little boy ! The weather has been very nice and hopefully will last a little longer - we are off to the Gower in South Wales in just under 2 weeks - so looking forward to it 😊.
Its been and continues to be quite stressful with Dad at the moment - he is recovering slowly but it’s taking its toll on mum who was also unwell last week with her diverticulitis mainly through stress . I think it’s going to take quite a while to see much improvement in dad - but keeping hopeful anyway .
YS came home for a few days and then returned to Dorset for a small break after his holiday to Croatia was cancelled . ES and DIL had a family wedding last week which was only parents , grandparents and siblings , it was my DILs sister , this was their 3rd attempt at the wedding since April !
We are busy in the garden at the moment - and the tedious task of painting fence panels 😬!
Rosie I hope the time goes quickly for your quarantine-I think you may well run out of space for all of DHs purchases 🤣!!
I hope everyone is well .
Good Afternoon ladies!
I do hope you are all Ok?🤔
Lovewine, hopefully your dad is now home and making a good recovery?
It has been such a difficult journey for you and the family.
We returned from France 2 days ago and now have to keep ourselves to ourselves for 14 days!
We don’t regret going it was lovely to spend quality time with ES and family and the weather was superb! I celebrated a Milestone birthday whist we were there!🤦🏻♀️
Our next next journey should be to Northumberland, Edinburgh and finally calling at Newcastle to see DD and family. But of course they have just been put into a local set of restrictions and the media aren’t painting a very rosy picture for the rest of us!🥴
My niece is getting married, hopefully on Saturday! They have had to cancel the church celebration and reception until May next year!🙄 They can only have a civil ceremony and even that could get cancelled if we are put into a national lockdown!
We feel like prisoners in our own home again. DH had a pile of Amazon boxes arrive yesterday that made me gasp when I opened the door!🙀 He said it was all stuff he needed as he couldn’t go to the shops to buy it. Such as toilet and drain cleaner, water purification tablets, plastic shelving and groundsheet pegs for the motorhome oh and some pannier baskets for his bike as he had to cycle to the local Intermarche as it was too far to walk and he struggled back balancing the shopping! Mostly due to the fact he always purchased extra items!🙄
Hope you have all been enjoying the recent spell of good weather before Autumn arrives!
That is such good news Lovewine. What a relief for you and your mum. You must have been on tenterhooks.
Lovewine relived to hear that so far so good your dad is doing well! Do hope he continues to improve!
Keep us posted!
We are off to Folkestone today in preparation for the tunnel tomorrow morning! Feeling excited about seeing family but apprehensive about the travel and the situation! We are staying 2 nights en route near Reims on a site as it is a 6 hour drive with the Motorhome to Nancy! 🙄
Evening ladies - just a quick update to say Dad pulled through his latest operation and the surgeon seems happy so far - he will be in hospital for a few more days and then we will hopefully get him home , poor mum is lost without him . Fingers crossed this latest surgery has been successful because sadly there are very few more options available to him .
Lovewine, so sorry to hear your dad had to go back into hospital. I do hope the op went well yesterday. Thinking of you and your poor parents.
Joan so sorry to hear that OH has had such a nasty bout of vertigo and it has rather curtailed your plans!
Lovewine so sorry to hear about your dad and will be thinking of you on Friday! Such a worry for you all!😔 Keep us posted.
Cassie good to hear from you and you are able to visit relatives! The grandchildren certainly do seem to have grown in Lockdown!😳
We are currently in Dorset until Sunday and we are still planning to use the tunnel Monday morning! We couldn’t get a bike for GS here as the brakes are the opposite way round on French bikes!😬 However we will go bike shopping with him in France! Probably better he chooses his own bike for size etc!
We had a palaver with the French site which we booked through the caravan and camping overseas. I found an email in my junk folder on Monday to say all overseas bookings were being cancelled and we would get a refund! ES tried to book directly with the site only to find that they hadn’t opened up this season!😳 Surely the club should have known before booking it??? Anyway ES has found us another site a bit further away but with a direct train to Nancy by the Moselle River! The owner is happy to have Brits and our family is able to visit us at the site! We will have to quarantine, as it stands, on return to the UK. But the way things are going they won’t get over for Christmas so it’s now or never! We saw them very briefly in Margate for a few hours!
There are a lot of retired Motorhome’s in France and Spain at the moment as they are able to quarantine when they get back!
Good morning ladies , good all is well with you , except your DH of course Joan , really very unpleasant having vertigo I hope he is recovering now .
sadly my dad had to go back into the vascular unit on Tuesday ( i took him back in ), his wound has been really pouring out with clear liquid so the district nurse wasn’t happy , the consultant wanted him on the ward to use intravenous antibiotics and monitor him , they did a scan and have discovered the first operation hadn’t worked and the arteries are narrowing again so another operation is scheduled for Friday ! Dad is quite despondent understandably . My mum was very tearful on the way home from the hospital too .made worse by not being able to visit him of course . Anyway the stress continues ☹️.
Rosie have you decided to go to France ? I certainly don’t blame you if so ! Seeing your YGS with his new bike is worth it 😊.
Cassie I can’t believe your GS is such a grown up young man - must cost ED a fortune to feed and clothe him growing so quick ! Glad you had a break , Bristol and surrounding area is so pretty !
Take care ladies !
I am glad your father is recovering, such a worrying time for you. GS is going back to school next week but its not such a change as he went back at the end of term for a month because of his extra needs, I swear he has grown about 7 inches in the last 3 months so new trousers have been ordered. He now wears size 8 shoes and is about 5ft 8inches tall, taller than his mum now and much taller than me.
YD and I have just come back from a 3 day break in Bristol we went to see my Nephew and his partner in their new house, they have moved just over the border into Gloucestershire into a larger house with 4 bedrooms apparently much cheaper than in Bristol, good luck to them, 2 bathrooms and a cloakroom.
I hope OH & DH are both feeling better Rosie & Joan, both been in the wars by the sounds of it.
Keep safe ladies xx
Lovewine, what a relief it must be that your dad’s op is over and he is back home. I hooe he is continuing to make a good recovery. What a shame about your fig tree, good wheeze about the email. How awful to see all the Xmas stuff at the garden centre, we went to ours last week to buy bulbs but fortunately they hadn’t begun on Xmas. Hope EL and DIL had an enjoyable weekend, the weather would have been perfect for Kew. And a nice break before he goes back to work, especially having been locked down again. Hope your business starts to pick up soon.
What have you decided to do about your trip to France, Rosie? Its quite understandable that you should want so much to go, especially with the bike and fifth birthday, which is a bit of a milestone. Glad that you have had an enjoyable time in Somerset and that OH managed to recover from his exertions in the north east. And so brilliant that the quarantine rules didnt come in before ES and family came over for his special birthday.
We’ve had a quieter week than we expected because OH had a rather severe recurrence of the vertigo he gets periodically, which came on on Monday evening. He was so poorly by last night, despite medication that I decided to call 111. He is now on different medication and is somewhat better today though still in bed. I suspect it was brought by being up a ladder doing some rather vigorous tree pruning, so I think we may have to get someone in to finish the job. We had hoped to drive down to Devon today to see some friends we havent seen for many months, which was a big disappointment but at least it didnt come on while we were down there. Grandchildren and parents are away as well. So apart from running up and down stairs I have mainly been working. Had a nice day out last Wednesday though at Forde Abbey Gardens, which you may know Rosie. We sat for a while in a swing seat, which reminded me of you Lovewine, I expect you have got a lot of use out of it this summer.
Hope all is well with you both, Cassie and Wildpurl. I expect GS is back to school this week Cassie. Ours dont start till next Monday.
Oh Rosie , what a dilemma ! I hope you have managed to sort out your trip to France , I completely understand why you want to take GSs bike for his birthday - I can’t believe he is 5 ! I can remember when he was born and your poor DIL had such a bad time 😲. Good luck with it all !
Good Morning ladies!
Lovewine I am so pleased that your dad managed to have his procedure with an epidural and that he is recovering well. What a relief for you and the family!
My you have been busy in your garden. I love the fact that you managed to get to the tip 4 times by using different email addresses! Very ingenious! 🤣🤣🤣
I too feel that summer has slipped out of our fingers! The nights are certainly drawing in! 😕 I too saw Christmas decorations appearing in a new shop on High Street!🙄
DH is much better thank you, I think he really did overdo it he still thinks he is a young man! 😬
The weather looks better for the weekend so ES and DIL should have a pleasant weekend in London.
Somerset was a lovely break we managed to get out and about by foot and bus between showers!
The meet up for ES’s belated 40th went well thank goodness! Fortunately the quarantine on visitors from France was imposed after their arrival so it didn’t affect them!😅
We now face a dilemma as we are due to travel to France on Sept 7th to stay on a campsite 5 Kms from ES and family. We would have to quarantine on return as it stands and would have to postpone our visit to Plymouth which is ok. The real risk is that France make visitors entering France Quarantine for 14 days and then we are stuffed! 😬🙀🥴
If I cancel the campsite by Tuesday I can get a refund. The euro star I will have to change the date and risk paying an inflated price difference!
I am sure that you must wonder why on earth we are considering it? It’s not a holiday it’s a visit to see family that we may not be able to see again until goodness knows when the way things are going! We plan to take YGS a new bike for his 5th birthday! He has a secondhand one that has been repaired and is too small for him. It would be his birthday and Christmas Present!
The region they live in France is not near the areas of increased infections. Our motorhome insurance is covered but I will need to get a new medical insurance as ours has expired. They have put the price up by 1/3 to cover Covid! I may just get a one off journey rather than an annual one.
I am speaking to ES in a couple of hours so we will have to see how the land lies.🥴
Joan and Cassie hope your GCN are looking forward to returning to school?
Wildpurl you must have enjoyed a most productive time is your garden!
We went to an outdoor socially distanced theatre production of Wind in the Willows outside the Henry Sandon Hall on our complex. Thankfully the rain held off! It was lovely to enjoy theatre again! There were only about 20 people there.
good morning ladies , I can’t believe it’s been 2 weeks since our last posts - it’s flying past despite the surreal times !
my Dad has his operation and thankfully so far is going well , it was done using epidural rather than a general as the tests on his heart showed it wasn’t strong enough to cope , he was in hospital for 5 days but recovering at home now - quite tired which is understandable !
Rosie how is DH now ? I hope things are settling down for him , I saw your photos in Somerset , looked very nice , I love that area too . How was the family meet up for ESs birthday ? Must have been lovely to have them altogether 😊.
Joan Glad you are able to get out more now and do fairly “ normal “ activities - not sure if things will ever be back to pre COVID ! A relief for you too that SIL has a new job .
My business is still fairly quiet , obviously a lot are working from home or furloughed do not needing me as often .My ES has been furloughed since March but returns half days starting the 1st September which is better than nothing - he’s relieved !
I can’t help feeling the summer has gone now , it’s much cooler in the mornings and evenings now and darker too ! I really dislike the cold , dark morning dog walks !
ES and DIL have gone to stay with DIls sister in London this weekend and have booked to go to Kew Gardens on Sunday so fingers crossed it’s a decent day !
Have been gardening quite a lot too this week , the high wind on Tuesday brought down our large fig tree so I have been booking slots at the waste site and taking it - problem is you can only have 2 visits over 2 weeks 🙄- so I was sneaky and made alternative email addresses and went 4 times !
Cassie hope things are ok with you and your family ? I expect GS is back to school ? Out schools returned this week but I think most areas are next week 🤔, will he be happy to go back after such a long time ?
Wildpurl are you still working from home at the moment ? hope all is well with you too , a busy time harvesting your produce I expect ! We grew carrots , onions , peas, chard and leeks and most have been successful - although I didn’t like the chard very much !
Take care ladies and have a good bank holiday weekend whatever you are doing 😊.
P.S I went to the garden centre yesterday and the Christmas stuff was all laid out !🙀
Good Morning ladies!
Lovewine I am so sorry that your dad is facing such a worrying procedure! I hope he manages to have a small celebration for his milestone birthday today. Do keep in touch and let us know how things go we will all be rooting for him!
So glad that YS has been given the all clear to return to work and that he was able to make another visit home!
Cassie the sad thing that struck me about your lovely photos was the lack of people! 😳
Glad that you were able to get away for a holiday and get back safely!
Mad crazy times! Our ES and family arrived in Margate on Monday for a week so fortunately they just missed the quarantine measures!🥴
We are travelling to see them today and staying overnight in a Travelodge! Our DD and family and YS and family are also coming but ES doesn’t know that! He was 40 in June. We were going to go out for a meal together but can’t do this as the group is too big so I am taking the party from Sainsbury’s click and collect. They are staying in a 3 bed semi Airbnb with a garden, so we can spread out a little. We have already met up with YS and fami,y and now DD in her bubble. Our ES is from Nancy and as they both work in education have not been in contact with many people over the last few weeks! We haven’t met up as a total family since Wales Last summer! It’s incredibly hard to do so we are seizing the opportunity as goodness only knows where we will all be by Christmas!
We are all staying in the Travelodge!
We spent nearly 3 weeks up at DD’s helping put furniture together and light fittings and curtain poles up! Then we tackled the back garden! 😳 It was a huge project with all hands on deck. DH worked very hard and overdid it. He hasn’t been well since returning with a pain in his lower groin! He went to the doctor yesterday and was given a blood test. They are treating it at the moment as a bowel infection with anti biotic! He has to return in a week for a further blood test!😳
We are off in the motorhome to Somerset for a few days next week.
We are supposed to be going to France early September, so will have to see what transpires!
I have cancelled our postponed our flights to Cyprus early October as Cyprus are being very strict. DH will probably go by himself in November. I probably won’t go at all!😔
Joan it sounds as if you managed your family gathering well! It is always hard leaving family! We must be thankful at this time to see them briefly!
Glad that YD got a refund for her ferry, we are booked onto the euro tunnel and a campsite. I will see how the land lies over the next few days!
Wildpurl hope all is well with you.
Must go ladies picking up shopping at 9.30. I have ordered paper plates, cups etc.
Oh goodness, what a worry about your dad Lovewine. Such a difficult decision for him to face. And how awful to have to make all those separate trips to hospital. How are he and your mum coping with it all?
We have just seen ED and partner off on the train back to London so feeling rather low. We have had a lovely few days if rather strange. The first three days we managed without them coming into the house- apart from to the downstairs loo, which I had sanitised and then reserved to them- and the weather was so good we were able to eat in the garden every evening. Last night though it was inside. We went out each day, and the grandchildren joined us with one or other of their parents. Wednesday was incredibly hot of course- when we got back we all sat with with our feet in buckets of cold water! We have even managed to avoid the downpours. YD and her family are also delighted that the govt has decided now to advise against all but essential travel to France because this means they have been able to get a refund on the ferry journey and rebook for next year on their accommodation. Had they cancelled before this because of the fear of quarantine being imposed they would probably have not even been able to claim on the insurance. They have even managed to book a week in Wales. So a great relief for them. But how awful for those who are already in France.
Good morning ladies 😀. Cassie what fabulous photos of your holiday ! How nice to have got away and even better just before the latest restrictions on returning !
Joan , I hope you enjoyed the few days with your ED and managed to get out and about a little bit - the weather was very hot for sight seeing though ! Lovely to catch up with her even in these weird times ! Glad you are managing to return to some kind of normality with meeting friends etc - it’s been very difficult when shielding . Also very good news SiL has a job -it’s all such a worry .
my mum and dad have found the last few months very hard - it’s about to get even harder though for us as Dad saw the vascular consultant on Monday after having a scan just the previous week regarding the blood flow to his feet and the ulcer refusing to heal - basically he has to have surgery to insert 3 separate balloons into his tummy and groin area to have a chance of keeping his foot and keeping healthy generally ... he is admitted to the same hospital as I had my surgery on Monday for observation and heart monitors and surgery on Thursday , he is very high risk as before when he was extremely poorly ( same time as your dad Rosie ) he had 3 cardiac arrests during surgery last time because after his heart operations his heart can’t cope .very worrying times for us 🙁.
its his birthday tomorrow (85!) and he has to go to the hospital again at 3.00 p.m for a Covid test , he’s had an appointment 4 days this week at different hospitals for various things - it’s a shame they can’t do things altogether as it’s hard when you are elderly to get yourself there and of course I can’t go with him or even drive him !
YS spent 5 days at home again last week which was lovely , he had been given the all clear to return to imperial college to work on Mondays and Fridays which he is so happy about as working from home doesn’t suit him at all .
its DILs 30 th birthday next week so we will take her present over on Sunday and spend some time with them .
Rosie I hope you are enjoying some time with DD and family and she is settled in to the new house now - are you sightseeing up in the north now ? Been good weather for you !
Wildpurl hope all is well with you .
Take care ladies 😊!
Wow, Cassie, that looks so beautiful, I am really envious. Impossible to know at the moment when it will be safe to go on holiday abroad. YD and family are due to go to France in 10 days but it is looking increasingly likely that it wont happen. Even if the UK government has extended the quarantine to France by then unless the infection rate there is clearly going down they cant take the risk of having to quarantine when they get back, not least because it looks like SIL has a new job, which is great news. Its probably only for about 8 months but its the sort of thing he has been doing and at the same rate of pay, which is a great relief. ED and partner are coming down for a few days tomorrow. ED is being ultra cautious about us so they are staying in a local hotel and when we go out they will drive my car-which I will disinfect first. YD is working for a couple of the days and SIL may be starting work so I think we will be doing some child care. Not sure how we will manage the logistics of it all yet.
We managed to have a meal with friends this week, with a 4 course meal from a local restaurant which has just reopened. It was amazing, so nice to have food I hadn’t had to cook , and fortunately the weather was warm enough to sit outside for all but the puds, when we retreated into their conservatory- which they had disinfected with an ozone machine borrowed from their son, whose firm sells them! What strange times.
Hope everyone is still fine.
Welcome back Cassie, how fortunate you got your trip in before the quarantine kicked in. Hope you had a lovely time. Perhaps you’ll be posting some photos soon? So pleased ED is doing OK at the moment. Fingers crossed.
Lovewine, what a relief to be able to see ES and DIL again. Good you are able to have a drink with your dog walking group even if not at the pub. Hope your parents didnt have too long to wait at the hospital on Monday.
Glad your daughters house sale has gone through Rosie. Hope there isnt too much DIY to do. How lovely to have some time in Port Isaac, it is a very pretty little place, but as you say, social distancing not easy in the narrow streets.
We have just spent a lovely afternoon with grandchildren and their parents at Hestercombe Gardens, which is a privately run property near Taunton- you may know it Rosie. SIL keen to visit-he spent a weeks work experience there when he was at school- quite a ,long time ago now. It was pretty hot but since much of the grounds are in woodland it was manageable. All very well organised. Otherwise we are gradually getting out more and seeing people in respective gardens. Sadly a couple of the activities I have been doing, including QiGong on Zoom, have stopped for the summer, though at least it gives me a bit more time. Still trying to do a few hours work every day.
I cant say I raised a glass on the 18th but did think of you all. Take care.
All well here ED has had no more problems at present. Just back from Mallorca myself luckily missed the quarantine rule arrived back about 1pm on Saturday. Just a quick hello as I need to get dinner on
no it’s completely disappeared - how annoying !
i haven’t time to rewrite it now , but I was just checking in and seeing how you all are ?
Rosie I am so glad DD has moved in to her new home , expect DH has been busy with little jobs for her !
we visited ES and DIL today as they are no longer in the lockdown area !
i raised my glass to you all on Saturday 18th and hope next year we will be able to meet up again !
Take care ladies and I hope you are all keeping well .
