Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14

Hello ladies , where has the time gone ! It’s nearly March .. I know we are all moving on with our lives and don’t post very often but I think of you all ❤️.

Cassie I hope all is well with your ED and the baby - very hectic I would imagine .

Rosie I hope you have managed to catch up with your family finally 🤞.

Joan how are you and your family ? Hopefully you have resumed your theatre trips .

Wildpurl I hope you are enjoying life as a retiree !
Some nice news here , ES and DIL are expecting a little boy in late June , keeping everything crossed for no problems - latest scan shows all is well .

we are getting used to life without Dad , my mum came out with myself and OH for a drive into Northamptonshire today for a dog walk around some woods and beautiful countryside , she hadn’t been out much since dad had died so I was surprised and pleased when she said she would come and she really enjoyed it , lots of snowdrops out too .
Hope you are all keeping well and spring is on its way !

Many congratulations to you all Cassie on your new addition to the family ! A Christmas baby how lovely !

ED will be very grateful she is living close to you as an unsettled baby is very hard work - both mine were 😬

Happy Christmas to you all and I hope whatever you do it’s a healthy and peaceful one , so sorry Rosie you are unable to spend Christmas with ES and family for the second year running ☹️.

Congratulations on your new grandchild, Cassie. What a lovely Christmas present. Hope he starts to settle soon. Mum and Dad are lucky to have you so near. I expect your other grandson might be glad to have you to escape to from time to time.

Good afternoon Ladies

So sorry to hear the sad news regarding your dad lovewine, somehow at this time of year it is all the more devastating. Look after yourself and your mum, she will need a lot of your support.

ED gave birth on 18th to her little boy a normal delivery this time and he is wee compared to older GS 6lb 9oz probably a bit less now, he is very unsettled and does not sleep on his own at all, we are very much like  tag team for now! Hopefully this will change soon or mum and dad are going to be very frazzled.

I wish you all seasons greetings xxxx

Joan they can’t cross the boarder which states they can only travel into the UK with a compelling reason which is death of a close relative or one that it is in critical care! 😔

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14

I am so sorry about your Dad, Lovewine, what a terrible shock it must have been for you all and not to have at least the comfort of having been with him in his last hours. He seems to have been incredibly resilient over the last few years, coping with a number of serious health problems. Your Mum is fortunate though in having you nearby and good that your sons are going to be around to help you support her. As Rosie says, Christmastime makes it worse.
What disappointing news about your son and family in France Rosie. I must admit I hadnt realised the French restrictions would affect their travel until I saw your post on Facebook.
Wildpurl, I hope you manage to get to Sadlers Wells, so many performances in London theatres have been cancelled recently. Glad you are enjoying retirement.
We are hoping ED and partner will be able to come down for Xmas and that the surge in Omichron cases in London won’t prevent this. It does all seem horribly like a repeat of last Xmas though.
Wishing you all Happy Christmas doesn’t really seem appropriate. So hoping that 2022 will be a better year for us all.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14

Lovewine I am so sorry to hear your sad news!😢 I remember your dad was very ill 7 years ago when mine was! It always feels much worse at Christmas when families are coming together! I am glad that your sons are able to help you care for your mum at this most difficult time. 💐

Yet another difficult Christmas for many as travel plans are or could be scuppered!
Fortunately YS and family were able with us for a weekend at the beginning of December and we are leaving Newcastle today after a long weekend with DD and family.
Sadly ES and family can’t travel from France so this is our second Christmas without them. They had paid for their ferry and the day two tests. I had everything ready at home I had been buying Christmas food and drinks in over the last few weeks! I had even made a Christmas cake at ES request! Fortunately something stopped me icing it so hopefully it will keep until we are able to see them next. The beds are ready made up, Christmas books for GS, a gingerbread house kit to make with him, the saddest thing I purchased Santa Stop here sign for the front garden. Fortunately it didn’t make the garden it waited in the hall. Something made me get DH to put it in the garage before we left for Newcastle on Friday as the travel situation was beginning to look grave.
We are returning today and it will be just the two of us for Christmas! 😔

Whatever you are all doing this Christmas ladies stay well and let’s hope next year will bring more settled times!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14

Good morning ladies . Well what an awful time again with all of this uncertainty again ☹️- Rosie I expect it’s ruined your visit from ES and family but I’m hoping they are already here or at least able to travel ?

Sad news from me .. my lovely dad passed away last Tuesday , he contracted sepsis and his weak heart couldn’t fight it off so he was taken to hospital last Monday and died less than 24 hours later - of course we were unable to be with him and although the doctor telephoned us to say we were “allowed “ to visit him in his final moments we didn’t get there in time . We are all rallying around my mum and YS is home for 2weeks and ES is calling in daily to see her as are we all .

I hope you are all well and can at least spend Christmas with your loved ones as I think restrictions are inevitable in the New Year ☹️💐

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14

Hello everyone, good to hear your news, how exciting about your new grandchild cassie, and good that your ED is living so close.

Hope your OH's work picks up soon, Lovewine, and so pleased that your YS has a lovely girlfriend now. What a nice photo!

Joan, the thing I hate about problems with technology is how much time it takes to work out what is wrong and how to fix it. Well done for sorting your printer though.

I have been doing some Christmas gift knitting, a luxury I never had time for while I was working, and am well advanced with the Christmas baking for once. Last weekend we went to stay with DS and his fiancée, we went on a lovely walk along the Uske and then had dinner in a restaurant just round the corner from them. We are hoping to have them to stay after Christmas and I have everything crossed as we have tickets to the ballet at Sadlers Wells on 23rd December, with both of them and G's parents. It also looks that my youngest stepson will stay with us over Christmas, if so it will be the busiest Christmas for some years, but we shall see.

I am enjoying retirement so far, I like having time to myself and being able to decide how I spend my time. At this time of year I always want to slow down and savour the season, not easy when you have a demanding job or business.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14

Joan snagging is faults in a new build property that the builder has to put right. Eg excessive cracking doors that won’t shut properly, dented splashback on cooker, dent in bath side panel etc! 😏

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14

Hope you are feeling less grumpy today Rosie although goodness, you have had quite a lot to be grumpy about. It must have been really worrying when DH had his turn but good that they didnt find anything untoward. Hope he is feeling better now and Victor Meldew is less in evidence. And how unfortunate about ES. Hope the tests results come back quickly. And that you have a lovely weekend with YS and family in spite of the unfinished work. Not sure what snagging is though.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14

Good Afternoon Ladies,

Cassie it’s great news about ED being next door to you it must be very comforting for both of you. A Christmas baby? I bet GS loves being so close to you.😄

Joan glad to hear all is well with you apart from mechanical/technical failures! 😬

Lovewine what a lovely picture of you all, so glad that YS has found a new GF! Lovely that she can spend Christmas with you!

Hope that the supply chain will improve for OH soon and he can return to full time.

I am feeling grumpy today! 😡😬🙄 The new travel requirements now require ES and family to have costly PCR day 2 tests! They have to self isolate until the result, given that they are travelling on Dec 22nd to us that really doesn’t give much time! I have tickets to a Live Nativity in the Cathedral on Christmas Eve afternoon.
Yesterday I attended an appointment with an advanced Physio re my leg/back pain. He has now referred me to a hip specialist! 🙄
DH had a funny turn last Sunday and was admitted to hospital. He had a variety of tests that concluded it was probably stress related! He seems ok now apart from mostly being disagreeable. Victor Meldrew comes to mind! 🙄

YS and family are coming for the weekend. We have 3 days of snagging going on and the guy doing it went home feeling ill today leaving  areas of re plastering still needing sanding and painting and furniture strewn around the rooms!
Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day! At least it is milder.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14

Good evening ladies , lovely to hear from you Cassie and such good news regarding ED living next door to you , what a big help you will be to her and GS . Fingers crossed all will go smoothly for the birth.
Joan I sympathise with technology misbehaving - very frustrating !
OH is on a 3 day week at the moment - not by choice but due to supply chain issues caused by the lockdowns —all very worrying .

We had YS back for a few days last weekend with his new GF , she is lovely , same age as him and American here on a 2 year placement as a lawyer , she fitted in very well and she’s spending Christmas with us !

Wildpurl I hope you are enjoying your retirement ! Lots to keep you busy though I’m sure .

Rosie how are you ? Are you spending Christmas with the family ? Hopefully anyway 🤞
not much else going on which is a good thing really , snowing here today and very cold , not keen at all !

Love to you all , might not post as often nowadays but always think of you all !

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14

Good to hear from you Cassie. How wonderful for ED that she is going to be so near to you, especially after she has the baby. I imagine you are going to be a very hands-on grandma and no doubt you have been knitting madly. I hope the birth is very straightforward. Is your grandson looking forward to having a sister? Your staff turnover sounds very frustrating. What are they all going on to?
As you say, the board has been very quiet recently. Perhaps not much happening in all our lives? We have seen a few friends, including a couple we havent seen for 2 years. Other than that, we have been struggling with a series of mechanical/technical failures but today we actually managed to replace the toner on the laser printer we splashed out on a couple of months ago, with the help of You-tube, not the instructions which came with it so one frustration dealt with. Now if I can  only convince my computer that the old inkjet printer does have ink in it…. As you can see, not much happening. Even the storm just blew over one plantpot.
Hope you other ladies are all well.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14

Good Morning Ladies

The thread is very quiet these days, we are all just getting on with life I guess. Nothing much to report here work busy as usual and likely to stay that way, we have started so many new staff over the last two years and only a few remain, still starting new ones all the time though. The younger generation just do not seem to be able to cope with the workload, I am happy to train anyone but it is very dispiriting when they then leave after a few months. YD is currently in the US Carolina this time her friend has moved from Michigan which is quite nice for her to be able to see a different part of America.

ED is not in her last month of pregnancy and living next door to me, which is lovely she has mad a really good effort since Sept to get that flat cosy and finished, everything is now ready for the new arrival.

I hope she has an easier time with this birth than the last, it has been a really uncomfortable time for her.

That is so sad, Lovewine. And terrible that if he had had the surgery he would have had longer.  Its good that his daughter has access to counselling to help her deal with a horrendous situation.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14

Good Morning Lovewine this is very sad news also!😔

Hopefully his pain will be kept under control and the family will be able to make the most of their time together.

We had our boosters yesterday and last Friday we had flu vaccine! Hopefully this will continue to keep us well throughout the winter! 🙄

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14

Evening ladies , Joan I also remember you telling us about your goddaughter - I am so very sorry to hear your sad news .

sad news too regarding our friend , his cancer has sadly spread to his adrenal glands and the oncologist wanted to operate and remove the tumours but wasn’t allowed to due to covid restrictions on operations 😥, been told to get his affairs in order because he’s been given about 9 months now , would have had at least 2 or 3  years if the surgery had been done . His teenage daughter is having counselling as she’s finding it very hard to come to terms with .

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14

You seem to have been very busy Rosie, with all your trips and outings. It will be very strange after all this time, for both of you when your OH goes to Cyprus. Do you have a anything planned other than your Newcastle weekend?
Wildpurl, belated congratulations on your retirement. Is it still feeling strange or are you getting used to it? I’m sure you have plenty to keep you busy.
We are gradually getting out more.  Met up with a group of OHs extended family we havent seen for two years a couple of weeks ago. Had a very good lunch at a beach restsurant in Exmouth looking out over the water. Lovely sunny day too. And plucked up courage to book a trip to the theatre in a couple of weeks. We are feeling rather down though because my goddaughter died from cancer recently. I probably told you that having recovered from her first bout of breast cancer unfortunately it came back. She had seemed to be doing well on the chemo before the summer and was having a break, but suddenly it spread. She was only 48, and leaves a husband and two children, 11 and 13. We are doing what we can to support her devastated parents, who are close friends.
More positively YD started her occupational therapy course last month and is enjoying it though finding it tough, not only having to study again but trying to memorise all the details of human anatomy and physiology.
Had my booster jab on Saturday so hoping will stay clear of Covid. We have very high rates in this area at the moment probably due to the problems with the false negative tests. Hoping that will work its way through soon and we can relax more.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14

Good Afternoon ladies I do hope that you are all keeping well?

Lovewine and Wildpurl glad to hear that you two have managed some time away.

Lovewine the lady you are supporting in your village is very lucky to have you to support her!

The clocks will very soon be going back but I do detest the darker late afternoons! 😳

I know you prefer the lighter mornings Lovewine for dog walking, I sleep far better in the winter when the mornings are darker!🤦🏻‍♀️

We went to the Chelsea Flower show to celebrate my birthday in September and also managed to take the show Hairspray in by taking a much cheaper ticket on the day!

Earlier this month we went away in our motorhome to Cornwall for a few days as I had booked tickets for DH’s birthday to see the musical Fisherman’s Friends at Hall for Cornwall in Truro. The show was spectacular and we enjoyed it more than Hairspray. On the way back we visited YS and family in Plymouth.

Next week DH is off to Cyprus for two weeks his first opportunity since he last went in Jan 20.
I am going for a long weekend to Newcastle to see DD and family. Her 13 and 10 year olds have both had COVID as have YS daughter’s 19 and 14! 😬

Stay well ladies!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14

Hello everyone, I hope you are all well.

I retired at the end of September so am just getting used to that. Before that OH and I went on holiday to Shetland with his Dad, sister and BIL, which we had planned since 2019 and had to defer of course. It was a fantastic trip and an amazing holiday which we really enjoyed.

I'm now adjusting to a different rhythm of life although I still seem to be quite busy, but have more time for gardening and reading amongst other things. I’m looking forward to a peaceful few months in the run up to Christmas.

How are you all?

Good morning ladies , can’t believe how quickly this month has gone !

Rosie what lovely photos and the new home for ES and family is looking very nice - they must have really appreciated all your help , it’s always sad when you return home though . So lovely you made the family holiday in wales too all of you .Joan nice too you got away to Cornwall with your family .

we are going to Norfolk for a week in the middle of the month so I am looking forward to a change and to see the sea !! YS is arriving this weekend for a weeks visit too which will be nice .

I feel this year the summer hadn’t been very good certainly not here in the Midlands / continual grey skies and quite cold too .

I am supporting a lady in our village at the moment who is half way through chemo before surgery , she is following the same pattern as I did and is Her 2+ like me - she had her first dose of doxetacol last week and is feeling rough- she’s doing ok though .

Getting up now to dog walk and it’s only just getting light - how I hate those dark mornings !
I hope you are all well and able to get out on more trips and maybe holidays !

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14

Hello Ladies I hope that you are well?

It has been a month since the last post was made! I know I have been very busy over the last month. Joan I am so glad that you managed a family holiday in Cornwall.

Eldest Son and family finally made it after a year to the UK at the end of July but had to do various tests and then quarantine with us for 11 days preceding our family holiday In Wales! It was lovely to have all the family together!☺️ DH and the two boys climbed Snowdon! It ended all to soon and after spending a further two days with us ES and fami,y returned home to France! DH and I followed them out in the motorhome for 12 days to help some diy. The property is quite large and has a great vista but there is much to do!
🥴. We left them with the upstairs living area and bedrooms finished. ES and DIL had already prepared walls painted some and ES had laid flooring in GS’s bedroom. DH helped to finish two other floors and fit skirting board. After spending a month with them hard to leave and return home to an empty house! 😢

We had to test before we left France and do a day 2 test yesterday! Not to mention the Passenger Locator form that had to be uploaded!

YS and family were planning to visit in two weeks for the weekend but EGD, 19 with one vaccination, tested positive, now followed by her sister 14, not vaccinated, and DIL double vaccinated and feeling very rough! YS says he has tested negative at the moment but feels it is only a matter of time before he gets it too! 🙀😳😬😷

I do hope you and your families are all keeping well in this continuing worrying time.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14

Aargh,  just managed to delete my almost finished post.
Great you are going to see your son and family Rosie. Perhaps by the 11th you wont need to pay all that money for testing.
We are just back from our family holiday in North Cornwall. It was lovely to see ED and partner for the first time in a year and all went smoothly. The weather was much better than expected so we were on a beach on all but one day. All but one of us -my husband, who kept promising to go in sometime- also went in the sea. We did have to beat a rather hasty retreat from one beach twice, having forgotten how quickly the tide comes in, but lots of other people also had to do a bit of wading! I was a bit worried before we went that it would be horribly crowded but we managed to avoid the very busy places and most people were being very sensible, wearing masks etc, so it turned out to be quite relaxing.
Not sure how busy we are going to be for the rest of the school hols since SIL has had to go to Italy again. Only short visits so far- he can go for 120 hours without having to quarantine there, though he has to isolate each time when he gets back. Fortunately I havent arrived back to a lot of urgent work- which is just as well since my computer mouse decided to pack up an hour ago.
Cassie, hope your isolation wasnt too horrible.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14

Bad luck being pinged Cassie! As Lovewine said it is happening to a lot of people!
We are currently in Stourport, only miles away from home, at a weekend Motorhome rally so we are glad that it has cooled down! It makes me wonder how we managed the long hot summers in Cyprus when temps would very rarely drop below 35. Obviously we had air conditioning but it was quite noisy at night!🙄

Our son in France and family are coming to us on Monday 11, days before our Welsh trip, to quarantine for 10 days! They have had their first test to leave and all tested negative! They  have to test on day 2 and 8! The testing has cost nearly £400 in total, which we have had to cough up for, but what can you do they couldn’t have afforded it? 🙄

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14

Good morning ladies, the heat is a nightmare at home luckily we have a good air-conditioning unit in my office otherwise we could not work as it is on the top floor like my flat. Good to hear a trip is planned Joan. YD and I are planning a trip to Dublin for mid of Aug just for a long weekend London is horrible in the heat, so it will be a relief. I have already knitted a few things in pale grey and random blue, white pale blue and deep pink mix it was left over from other projects, ED does not know yet!  I am not sleeping more than a few hours at the moment so thought I would pop on the website to say hello.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14

Well done for getting the photo the right way up at last. I did wonder whether you and Lovewine had been hitting the Prosecco! Re next years meet up I’d be OK with Worcester, though its not as easy for me as Oxford. Given the heat we’re having at the moment not sure I fancy travelling to London. But best to leave the discussion till next year I think.
Rosie, what a shame about your family get together. It does seem a bit over the top, especially given the lack of rigour about other travel decisions.
cassie, good you were able to make use of your ticket to Oxford. And good that ED is doing well. I imagine as soon as you find out whether the baby is a boy or girl you will be starting on the knitting.
How are you all coping with the heat? I’ve retreated indoors until early evening. Fortunately it is due to cool down by the weekend. We are (all of us hopefully still being Covid free) off for our family holiday next Saturday. We haven’t had a Cornish holiday at this time of the year for many many years. Just hoping- probably in vain- that it won’t be horribly crowded. And that when we get back all our summer bedding won’t have expired.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14

I’m glad you and Rosie were able to meet up, and Cassie at least you did not waste your ticket.

My OH's brother lives in Worcester, so we could probably combine a visit to them with meeting up, but TBH next year is a long way off, I shall be retired and perhaps things will be more normal, so happy to decide nearer the time.

Hi lovewine I am only too pleased to get out if London for next year's re-union it's just nearing 7 hours round trip I could not cope with. ED is doing well so far and will find out the gender in a week or so. GS is 14 now and about 5ft 9inches so towering over me and YD already bless him, He eats well but is painfully thin and gangly.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14

Cassie , maybe next year we could come to London again as it does seem accessible for all of us 🤔.

it is very hot here today - took the dogs out very early and then hosed them in the garden with cold water !

Joan - wishing you a belated birthday , I hope you had a lovely day and lots of spoiling by your family - I hope everything is still in place for your holiday , have a lovely time .

Cassie I hope your ED is doing well and your GS , he must be nearly a teenager now !?

Wildpurl , busy time in this heat with watering !

ES and DIL are coming to terms with their loss - apparently they had been trying for a baby for 18 months ☹️

Good Morning Ladies,

Lovely pictures Rosie, glad you were able to meet up together with lovewine. I did go to Oxford yesterday like billy no mates, I did a bit of shopping but it really was too hot to wander about for too long, I came back on  an earlier train than planned and the ticket guy on the train did not notice, so all was well. I was not able to get a refund on the ticket so thought it should not be completely wasted.

Have a good day today it looks like its going to be a hot one x

Good Afternoon ladies,

Hope you are all well.

We are gutted by the latest travel news regarding France as ES and family are supposed to be arriving on August 3rd before meeting up in Wales with DD and YS and families. We are trying to see a way round it if at all possible.
Today was brightened up by Lovewine coming to Worcester. We were disappointed that the rest of you couldn’t join us and wonder if Worcester would be a good Venue for next year when we hope that you will all join us?
