Hi Lovewine, we are going on Friday so a few days yet, let me know if you fancy meeting up although I know its your week for appointments, if not maybe we could catch up when I come back and you will have had your last chemo by then too and be on the road to recovery
Just a brief response before we leave for our birthday lunch.
Wildpurl re runny eyes. The oncologist said it was because chemo affects the tear ducts so theyt don't perform their usual function of draining the tears away. I think I assumed that they produced the tears but not so apparently.
Rosie, sorry you're suffering bad side effects from the TAX although good you got some sleep. Hope being under sedation for the op will mean the side effects are not noticeable.
All the lovely food so many of you are describing is mouthwatering and must mean the sense of taste is returning. I have also found that for the first time the horrible taste in the mouth has reduced, if not completely disappeared. On the other hand, despite now being in week 3 of TAX my fingers and feet are still numb and tingly. I also have raised blood sugat levels so have to have a fasting blood test on Tuesday. After that may have to cut out the sweet stuff so plan to have a nice dessert today!
Morning all,
Rosie - wishing you all the very best of luck and some more for tomorrow .. you are an inspiration, I will be thinking about you the next few days.
sounds like everyone else is getting on with life at the moment which is lovely, it's so nice to read all the things people are doing and planning to do as it's a real indicator that we're all feeling ok and soon you will be feeling ok after the last chemo and will just keep getting better. I've said it before but will say again what an amazing feeling it is to know you're not going to experience the side effects again and I'm wishing the next few weeks away for you all so you can experience it too ! Good luck to those who are going for last chemos this week.
Nellie - I think the same as you about fitness, I'm managed to convince myself its the low blood count and lack of red cells that make me feel so unfit and Wildpurl Im so impressed with your continued efforts to be exercising I just havent been able to do it but have some plans for when I get back from holiday to get back into some exercise ...must shift the wight I've put on for a start !
Rads planning on Friday was completely fine apart from the lack of choice of tattoos, no butterflys or dolphins or anything just 3 small dots, how disappointing lol ... start on 28th July and last one on 25th August
Very jealous of peoples harvests from their gardens, did manage to get some potatos and a few broad beans from ours yesterday which were lovely but most of the potaoes have been attacked by something underground. We will however have plenty of apples, damsons, plums and greengages later on. My nan is coming to stay for a few days in August and I intend to make use of her jam making skills !
Well ... not got a lot planned today, need to sort washing for holiday and chill out.
Hope you all have a great day
Lisa
Hi All,
Tlj I am glad you enjoyed your sons prize giving - well done to both of them - I love those proud parent moments! Boarding school sounds very grown up and exciting - do you live on an island? as I joined later I missed a lot of background info.
Good luck with the hair cut - we have ear piercing booked for the first day of our holls! Fortunately only the standard one hole affair as neither daughter has gone too way out - yet!!
Sorry to hear about your face. I had a minor a face issue after tax 1, it went red and puffy the first week but I hardly noticed due to the other SEs. However during the second week it was very dry, peeling and felt thickened and slightly numb, I guess due to the previous swelling. Seemed to settle down on its own and none this time. I’m not sure if this is similar to yours or any help?
Wildpurl and Lovewine (and everyone else for that matter!) I am impressed with your efforts to remain fit. I wasn’t too bad during the fec, but have become a complete couch potato with the tax! (Not too worried though as I know that there are dogs and horses waiting for me when I feel better) I also recon half of the fatigue is due to low red blood cell count therefore less oxygen available for energy - an idea/excuse anyway.
Lovewine I hope you enjoy your picnic and your collapsible chair only collapses when required - I have visions of you in a heap on the floor!
We are having a BBQ leg of lamb later with potatoes and salad form the garden. My first cucumber of the season is ready for picking today! I have millions of blueberries so might also try and think of a dessert with them although as they are fresh I may just serve them with ice cream . I am really looking forward to the meal as I hope (and prey) my taste is beginning to return. Going to pick herbs and make a marinade for the lamb now - a nice quiet job while everyone asleep.
Hope everyone enjoys their Sunday.
Nellie
Hi Rosie,
Sorry to hear about the aches and pains - I had forgotten you are dealing with all this whilst still only on week one. Amazing. Wishing you a massive good luck. We’ll be thinking of you.
Nellie
PS hope you dont mean 'put to sleep' literally!!!!
Rosie, I think you have to trust your own surgeon's advice and take all possible precautions perhaps leg exercises while sitting as well as walking around. It isn't a long flight after all. I think I have also heard that taking aspirin can reduce the risk though you would need to check that out with a doctor. One of those occasions when it probably would have been better for your friend to have kept stum. You don't need this additional worry. Will be thinking of you on Monday. Hope you manage to get some rest.
Cassie, glad the side effects of TAX have been less this time. This does seem to have been the experience of most of us. Let's all hope TAX 3 will be a breeze! Hope you have a lovely weekend, try not to overdo it.
Lovewine, I see that you are due for chemo (TAX 3?) on Thursday and I know Wildpurl and I are due Friday. Anyone else due this week?
Surgeon didn't ring yesterday. Not very surprised, I know that tends to be their busiest day and I, perhaps foolishly, asked if he could ring in the next feew days.. If he doesn't get in touch on Monday I shall ring again on Tuesday morning.
Nellie, that must have been a shock to have your eyebrows disappear overnight, Like you I think I would be more affected by that than my loss of hair. My eyes run all the time, constantly having to mop up tears so eyemakeup impossible. My head hair seems to be growing too as my eyebrows/eyelashes disappear.
Hi all,
EAM, your impromptu breast check sounds unusual but reassuring! I think follow up plans are fairly standard for ER+ and HER, but I’m desperately hoping I will be checked more frequently for less time as triple neg tends to recur in the first 3 years if it’s going to. Will find out in two weeks! Great to hear your hot flushes are wearing off, I feel guilty mentioning them sometimes as it seems such a trivial thing to complain about but in the wee small hours it’s not much fun is it!
Wildpurl sorry to hear your eyelashes have departed, do you find you keep getting things in your eyes as a result? I am very envious of eyebrows in any shape or form - mine completely went overnight after tax and I felt it altered my appearance far more than no hair. Strange how the head hair seems to be making a valiant comeback though isn’t it. DH complaining I’m too stubbly to cuddle! I’ve been giggling about the prospect of leg waxing - do you think we get it half price as only half the hair?
Joan I hope you get the clarification from your doctor quickly next week, very sensible to have called. I hope you don’t have too far to go to get your iPad fixed, not sure I could manage one, it would immediately get ‘borrowed’ by my daughters anyway!
Cassie I am glad you are finding tax2 more bearable and I think others are too? Let’s hope this means number 3 will be a breeze! I do hope you manage to enjoy the weekend with your visitors.
Lovewine a picnic in the country sounds idyllic especially if this weather holds I hope you bought some yummy food yesterday. I’m glad we are having chemo at this time of year - it’s been uplifting to sit in the garden and potter about deadheading flowers I just wish the flies would stop landing on my bare head!
My sister in law and son have just arrived to stay for 2 weeks from New Zealand and it seems a lot of us have outings planned and friends and family visiting this weekend, so fingers crossed for us all.
Have a good weekend ladies!
Nellie
Oh Rosie,
When are your worries going to stop! I am sure your surgeon knows what he is doing especially as he is based on the island. Perhaps we are more cautious here in the UK. There is a generally accepted increased risk of PE when flying for everyone, so with the right precautions in place I am sure you will be fine. It is maddening that advice varies from doctor to doctor on so many things eg - I had wildly different advice on driving after my WLE from ‘when you feel ready’ to ‘absolutely not for 4 weeks’ how do you know who to believe?! Exasperating and not what you need right now.
I love Pam Ayers! I still have a book of her poems somewhere. Hope you have a relaxing weekend and it does not feel too much like a count down!
Nellie
Hello Ladies, Rosie what a rough time you and DH are going through, so many ups and downs, relax as much as you can before the op and I hope all goes smoothly for you. Day 4 of 2 TAX and at least not admitted or anything drastic this time, bottom eyelashes all disapeared last night but I can live with that and have been expecting it, I have got off lightly to some, so far. I can't wait now for the last TAX and the follow up RAD appointments, its almost exciting! I am looking forward to my eldest daughter and grandson arriving this evening from Gorleston Norfolk. I hope to feel less tired tomorrow so that we may be able to get out and about for a bit, deffinately not wedding dress shopping though, I am not really up to that yet. The venue and church are already booked for next April, bless and my daughter is worried about loosing a little bit of weight, I wish that was all we all had to fret about!
Have a good weekend if I don't manage to get on line again, good luck Rosie X
Cassie
Thanks for all your posts and advice. I decided to ring the oncology centre this morning and ask if one of the consultants could ring me in the next few days to clarify what the report had actually said. Hopefully there won't be too much delay. Feeling less despondent today, although my mood was not helped by my ipad seizing up this morning and spending 40 minutes on the phone to technical support trying to get it going again. So it looks like I am going to have to take it back to the Apple Store and get them to sort it out. I hope I can get that organised before chemo (no 6) next Friday; I have come to rely on it for accessing this forum while lying in bed! looking forward to the weekend: my eldest daughter and partner are coming down to celebrate her birthday and mine later in the week with my other daughter and family who live locally.
Nellie, hope your daughters concert went well; you must be so proud of her. What a shame you can't be there. But maybe the finals?
Lovewine, what a priceless remark from your son. Good job we love them whatever.
Wildpurl, isn't it amazing to be thinking about needing a leg wax. How far we have come.
Rosie, hope you manage to get a bit of rest this weekend ready for Monday. I do think you deserve a medal for fortitude. But if you have to make do with wine! Hope you manage to get some decent sleep.
Hope everyone has the best weekend they can.
Oops dont know what was going on with that post!! Sorry guys xxx
Afternoon everyone, cant believe i was only on here 2\3 days ago & so much to catch up on! Have taken little girl to her groups this week - just as much fun for me as it is for her - my only social life at the moment! She is at the childminders today so am catching up on lots of jobs & planning to be up in the attick this afternoon!
So sorry to hear you had yet more to think about rosie! You have had many twists & turns, lets hope things go smoothly for you now. Hope hubby is doing well also.
What a cheeky son lovewine!!
Talking of checkups - i hadnt seen or heard from my urgeon since op in feb then when seeing oncologist on 4th chemo - he popped in had a quick fondle said was happy & said see you in 6months! I think we will all get checked every 6 months for the next 5 yrs?.
More holidays being booked!:)
My doctor told me to drink lots of full fat milk so not sure on the dairy thing?!
Yay last one soon jackie! Im hoping to have a baby too but wont be a few years yet. Have to have a planned break from tamoxifen when they say its safe. Will you be on that?
I wonder if the hot flushes is the chemo too? They have worn off & its been 15days since my last round.
Hope if the s\e's have kicked in now jos they are not too bad. My round 2 tax was sore mouth etc but pains only niggly where as first round they where full on! So hoping last round will be more mild again but at least its the last time i have to go through it so will get through it with that thought!
So sorry you've had a bad few days of news from all angels joan!! Ive heard of the penny brohn too. Looked into it a bit the other night. Feel fine at the moment but think when life can go back to normal i will feel a bit lost & left to check myself & get paranoid at every lump,bump,rash...anything!
Xxxx
