Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Lisa glad you are ok and good that you touched base with us again!
Lovewine really hope you hear good news of your dad today and that he is as comfortable as possible.
Don't worry about not getting in the Christams spirit yet you have too much going on! We don't put up any decs here because we are never here for Christmas. The earliest we ever put tree up when the kids were little was the week before Christmas and I always had it down New Year's Day!
Yes last bus trip over it has seemed a very long time. My last day was very stressful I was waiting for my number to come up,and ladies after me where going in so I went and asked why. She said I had a delay!!! I sat for a bit longer still wasn't called so went and asked the other receptionist and she said I had an appointment with the doctor in outpatients at 9.30am. This was the first I had heard of this why didn't the first receptionist tell me. Well I waited 40 mins to,see the doctor by now I am really stressing because the bus goes just after 11 and I still had to go down to rads!when I got into the doctor and she asked me how I was I told her I was stressed with the events of the morning and she phoned the rads dept and told them to take me next. When I got downstairs my number was up but there were 2 people waiting to go in to my machine. I got in at 10 to 11 and was upstairs by 11.05. Managed to grab a coffee and I had promised myself a cake on the last day and instead of sitting down
to enjoy it I had to wait in the queue to be assured of getting a seat on the first bus. The second one doesn't leave until 1.00 so I wouldn't get home until nearly 3.30pm!
We need to leave for the airport at 5.30pm! Dog has just been picked up by the lady that looks after her.
Tlj hope the Christmas Fair goes well this afternoon and that your son's match against Eton went well and hope your youngest son gets well soon. Bike ride in the rain????? I don't like doing anything in the rain!!'
Will try to touch base wifi willling over the weekend. Back in Cyprus Sunday afternoon! I don't think,I will be doing much on Monday!
Wildpurl, Joan, Cassie and Kirstie hope you are all having a good day looking forward to Friday!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Morning ladies, hope everyone is having a good day. I'm trapped in the house waiting on a delivery of champagne. We are going to give it as a thank you to all the local friends who helped us out whilst I was having my chemo, particularly the ones that did lots of taxiing of the children over the summer.
Wildpurl, hope the outcome of the interview is good and that your husband's job gets sorted too.
Lovewine, hope your Dad has had a good night and is now on the road to recovery.
How did the Christmas shopping go Jackie? I'm struggling to get into Christmas too. I really need to get organised as we are going on holiday for the week before Christmas, so everything needs to be ready before we leave.
Hope your feeling warm and cosy this morning Cassie. I hate feeling cold. I also have a tight vein in the arm I had my chemo in. If I make a tight fist you can really see it and it looks horrible. Amazingly, since I have started playing tennis again it has loosened a bit, so I hope your physio works for you.
Kirstie, I cant believe your stamp duty situation, that's terrible. I'm sure I heard something about this situation on radio 4 once, but I can't remember what the outcome was? I hope you can resolve it. Is it a small enough figure that you could go through the small claims court?
Joan, I hope you are not over doing it with the grandchildren. It must be hard work looking after little ones again, but probably very rewarding too. I don't think I'm much older than you, but my own children are still only 13 and 10, so by the time I'm a granny I think I will be too old to be able to help which is a shame.
My son had a good weekend and he seems more settled at school, although I think he is pretty exhausted. He's off to play a match against Eton College today, so I'm hoping to speak to him later to hear what he thought.
Younger son has recovered from his cold and now has a sore throat again! He can't be ill because I need to help set up the school Christmas fair this afternoon! I spent the whole day at our CLIC Christmas fair on Tuesday selling raffle tickets. I completely ran out of steam at 4pm and came home feeling sooo tired. The chemo has definitely affected my stamina. Did manage a quick bike ride with husband yesterday, in the rain. We must be mad.

Rosie, by the time you read this you will have had your last rads. Hooray!!!! Hope your flight is on time and you get to see your Dad tomorrow.

Hi all, thanks for the lovely comments on my hair, and for joining me in the unfairness of the charges.

Lovewine I hope you dad is okay this morning and you managed to get some sleep last night.

Rosie - hoorah last bus trip ! It will be a long day for you but you will be glad when you touch down here tonight x

I have to dash as I'm running late x

Lovewine - the eyelashes are individual extensions not my own ;0) xxx

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Morning all, dad didn't come out of recovery until 10.00 last night! We were all very stressed waiting for news, all we know overnight is he is"ok", so waiting for an hour or so to find out more.

Rosie, last day!! Good luck and my thoughts are with you for your visit to your dad,

I am trying to get into the Christmas mood, but failing miserably at the moment for obvious reasons- will have to get my act together in December I think!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Hi everyone,

Thought I'd come and say hello, prompted by bumping into Lovewine at the cinema on Sunday, the world is a very small place, you looked really well Wendy and it was lovely to say hello. I hope your dad is OK. I've had a quick read through but there are so many posts, too many for me to catch up on properly, so apologies for that. It sounds like everyone is getting on pretty well, Rosie - you've nearly finished your rads, congratulations, I expect you wont miss the daily travel, just think how much time you are going to get back ! Jackie - exciting that you are thinking about a move, we enjoyed Cyprus too, mainly the sunshine, although I do like this weather too, makes me feel cosy. Wildpurl - hope you're interview went well, when will you know the outcome?

I'll have a proper catch up in the next couple of days but until then have a good day tomorrow all

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Thanks ladies for your good wishes for dad, he is still in surgery at the moment, was supposed to have operation this morning but didn't go to theatre until 2.00 p.m, can't settle to do anything just waiting for news.
Rosie, only one more left! Well done, you have had a lot to cope with these last weeks with all that travelling and worrying about your dad too, not surprised you are feeling tired!

Jackie, Leicester is my nearest city(8 miles from it) , hope you manage to have a successful Christmas shop! I love the john Lewis there, but unfortunately do not always have the bank balance to accommodate my desire for shopping there!!

Wildpurl, hope you have had a good day, not as stressful hopefully today, hope you have some good news soon and your O/H with his position too.

Kirstie, must complement you on your lovely eyelashes!! Am very envious of how long they are!

Wildpurl it sounds like you did the best you could for your interview and I do hope you will be successful! Grievance procedures are very stressful you have certainly had a challenging week so far hope the remainder is smoother!
Cassie glad the radiator got sorted out and you are now warm.
Well last trip on the bus tomorrow what a long haul it has been the radiologist told me I looked tired today! Then off tomorrow night to to UK to visit dad! ✈️

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Wildpurl - well done for getting through your interview and fingers crossed for a great outcome. It's so difficult to judge isn't it. I hope, you get to find out soon
Cassie - glad the heating is fixed.
Joan - that didn't take long at all. I hope it's comfortable. I'm still quite tender after the op and now rads, so just wearing a vest top at the moment.

So, it's wet and miserable here today. We had decided to go to the filming of a league of their own. But having conducted some internet research have decided against it. So many reviews stating that despite arriving several hours before "doors opening" the majority of people were turned away. So I think we are going to brave Christmas shopping - in Leicester - OH has suggested!? Any excuse for me to go shopping - although I don't have the stamina fir it as I used to sadly! Hope you're all having good days x x

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Evening everyone,

Thankfully the heating at work is fixed, but I wore extra layers today just in case but my nose and fingers on the keyboard reamained cold until about 3pm when the gas engineer turned up, I was right, the system needed to be top up and re balancing, whatever that means? Anyway a lot more air came out of the radiators after the top up and it now works, horrahh.. all staff and all lovely ladies having smear tests grateful no doubt.

Keep warm, I will post again shortly

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Evening all, thank you for your good wishes for my interview. I am shattered! The interview started at half past four and went on till half past six. I think it went OK but don't know if it will be enough for them to offer me the job as there have been quite a few other applicants. I love the sound of the job and think I would like to do it, but it does involve a lot of travelling between sites, which I am not so keen on. There is another identical job for another business unit which I will now apply for, in case I don't get offered this one and also I think it has fewer sites to cover so possibly less travelling.
Also this morning I had a grievance appeal meeting which I have been chairing at which I had to tell someone that I was upholding the original grievance decision. That was quite stressful too.
Rosie, only two more rads to go, and fingers crossed you don't get any more sore patches.
It is cold here as well brrr!
Jackie your plans are very exciting, I am sure you will find suitable work if you keep searching.

Lovewine and Kirstie, don't overdo it! How dreadful about your stamp duty payment, Kirstie. I suppose you could sue the solicitors to recover your money? Bit of a hassle though.

Joan, glad your prosthesis has arrived and that you are pleased with it.
Cassie, the food fair sounds lovely! A great day out.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Joan that came quickly ! Hope you are pleased with results, have lit our log burner too and am cooking nicely in front of it!

My dad is now back in hospital with same problem, consultant has booked him in for surgery tomorrow, on balance it is the only option , he has no quality of life without it as the pain is too severe and he is on continuous morphine which is not good, am very worried as his heart is weak and operation is a vein graft- basically taking a vein from his good leg and grafting onto the bad one, a 3 hour procedure!! I have a " bad feeling" about it and feel very worried he won't be strong enough to cope with the operation, 2014 has been a truly awful year, started with my dog in January having part of her foot removed with a cancer which started on her pad of her paw, she was poorly for quite a while, then of course my cancer, my sons issues and now my dad😢

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Hooray, the prosthesis arrived this morning; somebody obviously jumped into action. I'm pretty pleased with the result although the thickness of it really reinforces how much tissue I have lost. It's been a miserable wet and cold day here today. But now curled up in front of a blazing log fire; lovely. Hope you managed to get your office heating sorted out Cassie; that your layers of clothing have kept you snug Jackie; and that everyone else is keeping warm in their different ways.
Hope the physio tomorrow is helpful Cassie. Sorry to hear there are queries about your liver function (good thing I checked this post, my spellcheck had 'corrected' that to lover! ) although it doesn't sound as if there are major concerns. but just the thought of having to have further tests is frustrating. Glad you enjoyed the food tasting; the Belvoir cordial sounds just the thing for the cold weather, must look out for it.

Rosie, it sounds as if your skin has stood up quite well. Hope it continues, you deserve a bit of luck with treatment.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

That's a good tip Rosie - thank you. We had an experience when we had our house there. We received a water bill for about £800 once. Long story short, the builders in the field next to us used our supply during the construction of their new estate!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good afternoon everyone!
We have a rainy cooler day here today and our house is fast loosing the heat! I have had to get the log burner going at 3pm!!!
No,delays today Lovewine just 2 more to go. I have three red patches where I have been zapped and it is a little itchy.😯
Cassie hope you got the radiator problem sorted in your office. Hope you have a wonderful, weekend with your daughter and grandson. The food at the Winter taster session sounds delicious! Sorry to,hear you have to,have more tests for liver and vit d hopefully they will improve by the time you are re checked!! Hope the physio appointment goes well and will help, with the veins.
Jackie you sound like you are doing very well on the baking front!
It's still, early days with Spencer you will look back in a couple of weeks and see how he has improved!🐶
Renting a house won't be a problem Jackie just make, sure there are no outstanding bills some tenants abandon ship and leave debts which the landlord can try to pass to the new tenant!
Keep,warm everyone!🔥

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Hi everyone having a crafty coffee and choc biscuit before carry on working again, really cold here today, was lovely though when dog walking earlier on with cold, frosty grass, at least the dogs stay clean! Jackie, the baking sounds like it's coming along well- I find nigel slater or good food recipe website have some easy, good things to bake, the chocolate and banana cake particularly is very nice🍰! Spencer will certainly keep you fit!! But like 2 border collies!!

Rosie, hope there were no delays today for you, enjoy the rest of the day!

Cassie, I think I may try some glucosamine and vitamin d and see if it helps my aching joints and muscles, are we allowed to take supplements now , I know it was not recommended on chemo, I find my soles of feet are really tender, think some of that though is the herceptin, enjoy your visit to your daughter, new kitten will be a joy too🐱.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Morning ladies,

Wildpurl - the very best of luck with your interview today x x
Tlj - I hope you had a lovely weekend with your son - how exciting for him to fly home each time. I think my growth rate re hair has slowed down, so I'm not at the going commando stage yet either. I've tried to keep my radiotherapy site dry, so haven't been washing my hair everyday with the soap from lush - wonder whether that makes a difference? Glad your rash was nothing to worry about and I'm sure the antibiotics will sort it out. With me recent success with the cupcakes, I was wondering whether to donate some to my son's Christmas Fayre - perhaps I'm getting too ahead of myself!
Lovewine - glad you enjoyed the film. We found the elusive film on Sky, so watched it on Monday - (nearly) the worst film ever!! Luckily it was on demand, so we didn't pay for it! How lovely to bump into Lisa - I hope she's doing well and work is going well for her.
Rosie - hope your dad is doing okay.
Kirstie - nice to hear from you - but not that you are so busy! I'm dismayed to hear of your financial issue. I can't begin to imagine what a curveball that news was. I also can't believe the solicitor isn't accountable - want absolute nonsense the law is that you are still liable. We threw our Christmas tree out last year, so I haven't even got one to put up at the moment - they are so expensive. I love how the house looks at Christmas, but am dreading Spencer and Christmas decoration mix. Your hair looks great - the colour and style really suit you.
Joan - very frustrating to hear about your prosthesis - hopefully it will now arrive soon. I rectified my baking disaster with the purchase of a mixer, and the pie is slowly bring demolished by anyone who visits! OH has now put in a request for egg custard. How did your Christmas cake go?
Cassie - you sound as if you've been having a lovely time lately and a trip to your daughters to look forward too - and a kitten! I like the belvoir elderflower sparkling drink. I had a giggle when I was told it was pronounced "beaver" on the way to an open air concert years ago! I hope your office heating gets fixed soon - I hate to be cold almost more than anything! Having said that, we left the bedroom window open last night by accident - and to say it was icy is an understatement! Interesting you mention your vit D levels as I mentioned testing mine to my onc. Stick with the physio - I had dreadfully sore and tight veins, especially in my anx arm. The physio I am having for my restricted arm movement seems to have helped my veins enormously - so I hope it is the same for you.

So, Spencer continues to howl whenever he is left alone for a nanosecond, the grey paint for the bedroom had blue/lilac hues - so us being changed today. Our room us vaulted - which makes those walls look darker than they actually are - so the decorator is mixing it freehand. I joked it will be "50 shades of grey" by the time it's finished! (I haven't read it, I hasten to add!). Oliver has a dreadful chesty cough, so I kept him off yesterday hoping he would would be rested for a school trip today. I suppose it's like I tell my parents, unless the are contagious, they may as well be in school - so off he went. He's going to a military flight training air base - a school trip I wouldn't have minded helping on - I love a man in uniform! On the Cyprus job front, there are 2 at the moment - one the wrong side of the island, and the other is a MoD school - which I can't apply for, but we'll keep looking! Lots of houses for long term rents, so can't see that being a problem. Spencer is now having a mad 1/2 hr, so I'm off to take him for a walk to wear him out. Hope you all have good days x x

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

I meant to say I saw the GP on Friday and my vitamin D is low so I have started on some tablets to help replace it, its difficult to get enough sun when you have chemo and are told to keep out of the sun, plus working in an office does not help. My liver function is also a bit abnormal but not enough to be too worried apparently? I will have the liver function and vitamin D re-checked in 8 weeks and if not normal by then a CT scan will be ordered! I am really fed up with all the appointments and hope it does not come to that.

My physio appointment is this Weds lets hope it is useful and helps with the nasty tight veins, I am not convinced they will ever improve, they do look very unattractive as well as uncomfortable Smiley Frustrated

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Hello Ladies,

I love that we all are beginning to feel more like we used to with our new hair, you look lovely ladies. I have just been looking through my daughters photographs and I don't think she has uploaded the ones from my nephews graduation yet, they are on her iphone. My youngest daughger is in Michigan at the moment visiting a friend so all is a bit quite here in the evenings. We did have a lovely time at the taste of Winter food tasting, I bought a few things to try a lovely fruit based cordial Belvoir, apple plum and cinnamon which is meant to be warm, its very nice and a warming alternative to tea, coffee or hot chocolate, I don't mind green tea with lemon but do like to try new things.  The food was yummy but I really cannot afford too many calories I have managed to put about 20lbs on and have been too worried to diet, but some effort in the new year needs to be made.

I am going up to Gorleston on Friday for the weekend to visit my older daughter and grandson which will be nice and maybe do a bit of Christmas shopping. My daughter has a new kitten now 9 weeks which will be cute to see while she is still small.

My office was absolutely freezing today, I managed to get all radiators on except the top floor where I work, I had my trusty radiator key at the ready but I think the system might need topping up, luckily we have cover with British Gas and I managed to get an appointment for tomorrow so hopefully we should be warmer soon, my nose was like ice this afternoon.

Keep warm x Cassie

Joan what a good job you phoned about prosthesis lets hope it arrives by the weekend!
Yes Lovewine it does, feel a little more normal not having to hide my head away.
Kirstie your hair looks lovely the colour really suits you!
I think that it is most unfair making you may with interest when you had already paid it. Can't the solicitor be taken to court for not paying surely it's them and not you that should be responsible for the payment? Hope you get it sorted out soon! Life really keeps kicking at us doesn't it?
Hope, you are all warm with your wood stoves!🔥

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Hi ladies,

Joan how frustrating re your prostheses, took a while to get mine through too but then I never wore it as it was too heavy and I knew I wanted recon anyway x. I hope it arrives soon, I'm sure now the order is in it won't be long ;0)

Rosie, that's great you went naked ;0) I think it's quite liberating and what lovely comments, I have put a pic up of me with my hair now 4 hair dyes later ! I'm surprised its not fallen out - mind you we shouldn't joke about these things !

I'm afraid I contacted the powers that be and it is right. As the purchaser it's your responsibility apparently, I can apply to the SRA for some help but ave been advised it takes months and is run on a priority basis so those in the process of transactions and moving are dealt with first and of course in the meantime your charged a daily interest rate! Hey ho what can you do - it is what it is !

I hope everyone has fun at the Christmas outings they have coming up ;0)

Wildpurl - thinking of you and your husband and keeping my fingers crossed

Lovewine I have put my wood burner on tonight too great minds think alike, it's very cosy xx

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Hi ladies, Rosie, I have been working hard today, am trying to not let it run away with me again! Your delay at rads is annoying, I had one or two like that, but thankfully mostly on time, you must have felt good at comments regarding your hair, I think it looks great! It must help feel a little more " normal" again not to need the wig and scarves!
Joan, hope the prosthesis arrives soon, good thing you chased it up! The cinema we use is also an independant one, I would rather support these than the big chain ones too.
Kirstie, how awful to have the worry of financial pressure as well as everything else, I agree with Joan and Rosie, surely you can't be liable for it, definitely citizens advice or similar for good advice, I know how you feel though not having the energy levels to keep up with work, household, etc!!
Cassie, hope your weekend was nice?
Jackie, hope spencer is doing well and the Cyprus job/house hunting is going well.
Tij, hope you enjoyed your family Sunday and your son returns back to school ok, not long until Christmas holidays!
Wildpurl,good luck for tomorrow!!
Going to light our wood burner stove I think, it was really frosty and cold here earlier, hate being cold!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Since it is now two weeks since I was measured for the prosthesis (and having been told it would arrive in a couple of days) I decided to chase it up today. It appears that it. Hasn't evempn been ordered! The fitting nurse apparently put down that I had been supplied with one from stock! Hopefully it will now arrive before Xmas.njsckie, I wasn't told about this when I had the WLE, it was only when I saw the breast care nurse and mentioned that I was wondering about having reconstruction that she suggested it. Hope you have no more baking disasters. I am making my Xmas cake today so hoping nothing goes wrong. Glad your dad is doing well now.

Rosie, congratulations on stepping out without the wig. You're right about needing a hat when you come to England though; there are times when I have had to go back to wearing my caps.

Kirstie, surely that can't be right that you are responsible for your solicitors negligence. Have you taken advice on that eg from Citizens Advice or the Law Society? Xmas tree up already. You make me feel really tardy. I'm not even thinking of doing it for another couple of weeks.

TiJ, glad your sons plane wasn't delayed and also that your rash didn't turn out to be anything serious. Pity about having to go to the hospital though. Good luck with the Xmas fair. I've done my share of those over the years- variously running cake stalls, sweet stalls, and crafts. This year my daughter asked me to help her on the tombolo at granddaughters school so it looks as if it may all be starting again.

Wildpurl, good luck with the presentation. It is horrible that you and your OH are being put under all this stress.

Lovewine, glad you enjoyed the film. I'm hoping it will come to our local cinema soon. It's a community run enterprise in, if I remember it correctly, the oldest continuously run purpose built cinema in the Uk, almost entirely staffed by volunteers so we try to go there wherever possible rather than going into town to one of the Nationals. And, as one of our friends put it, you can be back home with your feet up drinking cocoa by 10!

Good evening ladies!
Kirstie lovely to hear from you I am so sorry about the stamp duty scenario and do hope there will be a way that you will not be liable for this. Glad to,hear you are looking forward to Christmas it's a special time with youngsters.
Get the kids and the husband to help you with the housework!
Wildpurl thinking of you tomorrow I am sure you will impress with your presentation.
Lovewine hope you haven't worked too hard today!
I had to wait for 1.5 hours for radiotherapy as there was a problem with one of the machines. Had to go into school this afternoon to advise on assessment. Staff that were still around said how much better I was looking. The ladies,on the bus liked my new hair and said the colour looked natural!
Evenings are much cooler here need the log burner going now!
Hope Joan, Cassie and Tlj are all ok.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Hi ladies

Sorry I've not been on I'm just so busy, I know I need to do something to cut down my schedule but not sure what at the moment I think it is too much, I'm working full time all the hospital appointments, I have my genetics test today, my two kids, husband, dog, tortoise, chickens, Christmas lol. I just don't ave the same energy I had before so just doing the house work feels too much !

I would love to cut down work but with all the money we owe now because of this year it's not an option, plus we of a letter yesterday from hmc saying that the solicitors we used to buy the house were fraudulent and didn't pay our stamp duty so they have billed us for it and advised they will also be charging interest since 2010 ! It's thousands, just what we need !

I haven't had chance to go through all the posts but I hope Rosie and lovewine your dads are doing okay, Rosie you should be off to see him soon

I put my Christmas trees up this weekend, I love Christmas so I'm not going to let that change too x

Right really sorry must dash, off to work just wanted to let you all know I'm okay - love and happy dances to all xx

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Evening ladies, hope you have all had good days today? Tij, nice to spend time with your family, good luck with the fayre! I heartily recommend getting a dog, they keep you fit and active and give so much!!
Jackie, how did the baking go today? And the clearing of the bedroom too, hope it all goes well when decorating begins next week!

Wildpurl, I hope the winemaking was a success, my O/H used to make wine, elderberry was the nicest! I hope you get some peace of mind too with your O/Hs job, how worrying and stressful and bloody unfair on top of everything else you have had this year, will be thinking of you too on Tuesday and hope your presentation goes well- you are obviously highly regarded and good at what you do.
Joan, hope you have had a relaxing day, know what you mean about setting up new phone/ipad etc, it drives me mad, I make my O/H do it for me as he is much more patient!
Rosie, hope your skyping with family went well, are you meeting up when you visit your dad next week?

Anyway, the film we saw" the imitation game" was very good, I don't visit cinema very often so has to be a film I am interested in and this didn't disappoint, benedict cumberpatch was excellent as Alan Turin.would highly recommend it!
As we came out of the film into the bar/cafe who should I see also exiting the film was Lisa!! How lovely to see her, Lisa, you looked really well! Had a chat , she also enjoyed the film, but of course it was quite sad too, how very intolerant and ungrateful society was in those days( and nowadays too in some cases!)

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Hi Tlj glad to hear form you! Glad your rash turned out to be nothing too serious.
It was lucky the plane was able to land I think pilots are used to landing them in fog. Enjoy your afternoon with your friends and early supper. Not long till your son breaks up now is it? Hope the younger one didn't get too wet playing his hockey.
Good luck with the Christmas Fairs hope hope you make lots of money for the school and for CLIC.
Remember ladies I think I finished my chemo before most of you on July 7 th! So I had a head start on the hair front - pardon the pun!😄

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Morning ladies,
Rosie, your hair looks great. I'm quite envious, mine is still Wayne Rooney pre hair transplant! Can't wait to get rid of scarves and I think my kids will think their mum has recovered if she looks normal. I'm hoping to be able to go without a scarf in a few weeks time when we go on holiday.
With everyone talking about dogs it makes me feel like we should take the plunge and get one. My husband has wanted one for ages, but I know who will end up looking after it, Moi.
My son arrived home about 2 hours late yesterday and it was touch and go as the fog descended over our island. We would have all been gutted if the plane had had to return to the UK. Anyway he's home now until tomorrow night, so we are catching up with all the news. Meanwhile his younger brother is out playing hockey in the pouring rain. Later we have invited another family over for a catch up and an early supper.
I had to make a quick dash to the hospital on Friday afternoon because I had developed a rash around my wound. Fortunately, the surgeon thought it was ok, but he has given me a course of antibiotics just in case.
Next week is a bit manic with the build up to the Christmas holidays. I've been helping prepare the school Christmas fair which is on Friday and I also have to help out all day at another Christmas fair for CLIC Sargent.
Hope everyone has a relaxing Sunday.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Lovewine I got bleeped when I tried to call your sons ex by the same word!
Hope, the rain clears up,and you can get your dogs out in the dry. I thought we were going to have rain here I managed to walk the dog this morning and it was thundering in the distance now the sky is blue and it is warm in the sun. I got DH to,light the log burner too as I was cold first thing!
Enjoy the cinema!
Have washed my wig and it is outside drying with the washing before I store it away!
Thank you ladies for your kind comments about my hair and outfit! I must confess I felt much less like a cancer patient last night!
Jackie sorry to hear about your baking disaster hope you manage to find a food mixer at a reasonable price! You didn't have much luck with your film either! You have a busy day lined up today enjoy!
Wildpurl hopefully the wine making will take OH's mind of the job situation it will be better when you both know, what the score is. It is certainly very unfortunate that you are both facing uncertainties after this year!😞
Good luck, with your presentation I hope it comes together easily for you.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Morning all! Your hair looks great rosie and you look lovely in your outfit, very slim and elegant. My hair is a little longer than that and much curlier grrrrr, and I am really hoping that after it is cut next week I will be able to dye it and then blow dry it a bit smoother, and do without the wig altogether. I also like to wear dangly earrings with a short hair cut.
Jackie, I am impressed by your energy, and you are taking charge of your life and focusing on what you want to do. Good luck with your plans to move to Cyprus, I really hope you can make them a reality, I don't see why you would not be able to. Your new Springer is just lovely!

Well done for coping with the grandchildren Joan, you also seem to be getting your energy back.
I hope you enjoy the film Lovewine, I don't go to the cinema very often but at the moment there are a few films on I fancy seeing, so trying to organise some time to go.

Today I am preparing my presentation for the interview on Tuesday, I also have a reference to write for a colleague, and OH and I are making rasberry wine to help clear some space in the freezer. OH is very stressed now he has been put at risk of redundancy, he is in a pool so will not know for a couple of weeks whether he will go or not. I think he will be OK, but you never know. I must say I feel very angry that we are being put through this ordeal after the year we have had, but I suppose life is like that.

Oh I meant to say. I have joined applause.com, who supply studio audiences for TV shows. Anyway, I applied for loads (as they say it's random selection) and got tickets for "league of their own" this Wednesday. But I can't go!!!! Have a look, ladies, there might be something you like.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Morning everyone,

Rosie - your top is so pretty and glad you enjoyed your night out. Hope the meeting goes well today.
Lovewine - before last night, Sammy had barely squeaked at Spencer, but they both wanted to play with the same toy - so Sammy did a lot more growling - so I hope that gave Spencer food for thought! Enjoy the cinema today - I love going there. On Friday night, we tried to download a film from the sky store. We took ages finding one we both agreed on. We took a break to put Oliver to bed and when we came back to download it - it had gone! We couldn't believe it, after spending so long choosing! We gave up and watched I'm a celebrity! We think we must have looked just before Sky up-dated! Grrrrrr.

So after my 2 successful bakes, last night was a DISASTER! We have no food mixer, so everything was by hand. The first disaster was that according to the recipe, the lemon juice and rind should thicken to a paste with the corn flour. Well it didn't (not sure if too much juice - our lemons must have been juicier than the norm). So I just added more and more corn floor - you can guess the rest. That wasn't the worst. Enter the meringue. My arm isn't up to beating, so OH was in charge. We started out in a plastic bowl with a hand held blender. After a while, we could smell a sort of burning, so continued by hand. OH wasn't happy with the bowl, so we swapped to a glass one. After AGES it had the faintest of peaks - all was well. The sugar was added and eventually it began to stiffen. We tasted it - the smell from earlier was the blender heat and plastic combining - which now made the meringue taste funny! It was now about 1hr 1/2 later, so we gave up! So close! Off to purchase a mixer today to finish it off! I fancy one like they had in The Bake Off, but they are £400! So hopefully a pie by the end of the day!
I'm clearing the bedroom in prep if my wallpaper tomorrow and I'm having a chunk of shelve cut out of the cupboard on the landing so I can slide my ironing board in - so that cupboard will need emptying today too. Oh and I'm a Liverpool supporter, so I'll be watching them on TV today.
Wet here today - not the best weather for a new puppy as he won't go out unaccompanied!

Morning all, Rosie, you look great!! I like your outfit for last night, am so jealous too of your hair, mine is still convict style and because it is blonde hardly noticeable! Enjoy your Sunday and hope the AGM goes smoothly👏 just think tomorrow is the last Monday you are off for rads!
I am doing bit of housework this morning and then to the cinema this afternoon, before that walking dogs in the pouring rain looking outside!
Jackie, I have had 2 dogs for many years and they do accept each other , my 2 collies are inseparable, the **bleep** whom I had first snarled at the pup and nipped him when introduced first! After that she looked after him ,but is still the boss dog!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good morning ladies had a lovely evening last night good food, good wine and good company and me with my own hair. Our friends thought the colour and style were very suitable! So that's it now ladies no wig, no head scarf. Have got a wooly hat I can take to UK as my head felt cold in April there when I first started to loose my hair. I am going to wash the wig and put it away and hope I never need it again!🙏
Jackie the year 1 class was my class the one I was teaching when I was diagnosed and the TA took the photograph and emailed it to me as the children had just planted their sunflowers when I had to stop work suddenly! When DH put photograph on the website he cut off 2/3 of the class!
It's always very difficult introducing another pet into the family. When we had a second cat in the UK she sat by the cat flap and wouldn't let our original cat back in the house and he used to go and sit in the field next door and I felt dreadful for him. They eventually leaned to tolerate each other! The first week is the worst! Keep your other dog in his routine and I am sure he will accept the youngster! Good luck!🍀
I am very impressed at your baking skills and hope, the lemon meringue pie was a success!
Has anybody got any plans for today?
I skype with the children and tonight we have a business AGM, one of the shareholders is flying over today for it.
What ever you are doing hope,it's a good one. X

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Lovewine - my parents are divorced - sorry I should have said. They are still on good terms, but my mum is removed from it all, especially as my dad re-located and lives a long way away. I'd really look forward to a Christmas lunch - shall we see how many others could come, then decide on a location? Like you, I'm willing to travel (that always makes me smile as that phrase reminds me of a lonely hearts add!). Yes his coat is lovely - thank you. He was shivering on his first walk, so had to have one!
Thank you for the advice Rosie. Your school looks wonderful - especially the year ones with their sunflowers! I'm currently an AHT in a large primary. Ideally I'd like similar, but from what little we understand, supply work maybe what's available. Sadly for us, we seem to love the wrong side if the island re job opportunities! Swimming was cancelled as he has a very chesty cough - he seems to suffer quite badly and frequently from these - so a dog walk replaced that. Sammy is very displeased with the arrival of Spencer. He avoids him as much as possible. He even jumped onto the sofa onto OH's knee to get out of his way. And when Spencer has an accident in the house - Sammy's expression is priceless! I hope they will become good friends, but won't hold my breath! I can't believe how much hair you have - I'm jealous! And the colour really suits you. My natural hair is about as dark as you can get, so I get quite a shock when I catch myself - I have been blonde for 10+ years! Have a lovely time tonight.
Joan - don't apologise - I don't think I'd mentioned my dad's illness before. He's done really, really well. He was first diagnosed with bladder cancer about 12 years ago but it has sadly recently spread - hence the need for chemo. He managed to visit Turkey afterwards, so has recovered well. You must be very patient indeed - I get very short of patience if little one stays up too long, although tonight will be a later one, as this year, for some reason, he is addicted to X factor! Nobody has mentioned a prosthesis to me - I will have to chase that up.

I have recently taken up baking and have produced an apple cake and cup-cakes over the past 2 weeks!! I got a piping bag and little one was very impressed, but hated the butter icing. OH has. Ow placed a request for a lemon meringue pie, so I'm off to tackle that! Have lovely evenings x x

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Evening Joan!
Glad you survived your week and sorry your prosthesis hasn't arrived yet I really think something so important should be got to you without delay!
I had to smile at you giving your husband your old mobile my DH would be the one giving me his he loves all the latest gadgets!
Another busy day for you tomorrow glad your energy levels are returning.
The side effects from rads Joan are mainly to,do,with travelling I think aching legs and neck slightly nauseous and skin a little pink.
It is difficult with elderly frail parents who can no longer look after themselves when they have been so independent! Maybe we can get him settled into a nursing home whilst I am there.
Right off upstairs to put my glad rags on!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Well, I survived the rather hectic week and even managed to stay patient with the grandchildren who eventually dropped off to sleep at 9.15 and 10pm respectively. Since we didn't get back home till 1am thought I might wake up really late this morning but no such luck. Anyway, my energy levels are obviously returning, managed to cope with buying a new phone this morning although as usual the palaver setting it up nearly had me wanting to throw it out the window. Husband now has my old smartphone; I'm hoping to get him out of the dark ages and onto texting but I expect it will sit at home or if it's taken out not be switched on! Tomorrow daughter and grandchildren will be here all day because her husband has to move his collection of ancient land rovers (none of which are actually driveable. My prosthesis still hasn't arrived. Will have to try and chase it up on Monday.

Rosie, what a great head of hair. Much longer and considerably thicker than mine. I can't quite believe you will be finished rads this week- I expect you can't quite either. How are the side-effects. Given that you flew so soon after surgery, and during chemo, flying after rads probably seems rather easier. But all the travelling you have had to do on top on the treatment is bound to have taken it out of you, so I hope you can take it reasonably easy. It will ge great to see your dad and i'm sure he will be overjoyed to see you. Reaching the point where our parents can no longer cope at home is really difficult. But as Lovewine says, it will be some comfort to know that he will be safe and looked after.

Jackie, great that you have now completed chemo. One of the things we found distressing going for radiotherapy was seeing much younger people there and children too. I hadn't realised your dad has also been having treatment for cancer, please forgive me if you have mentioned that before. That is just too much for one family to have to deal with.

Cassie, hope you enjoyed your food tasting, and Lovewine your film. Both of those are on my to see list.

Wildpurl, your shopping trip sounds most productive. I am plucking up courage to re enroll at the gym and to start swimming again.
