Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good afternoon everyone!
Jackie how lovely to hear from you😃
Glad to hear that you have finished radiotherapy I finish on Thursday!
So happy for you that you have a new pup🐶 looking forward to seeing him in your gallery!
As with your regard to spending some years out in Cyprus there are a few things to consider. Your wider family-I have missed mine this year so much more and having dad so ill and not being able to get back is giving me added stress!
Health insurance - do you have private medical insurance? We fortunately do? A lady I travel on the bus with just had a bill for 10 of her radiotherapy sessions of 1000 euros! If you work here you are entitled to free medical treatment. If you keep your house in the UK you can obviously go back at the drop of a hat if necessary. Would you want to send your son to a private or public school? Are you Primary or secondary trained? We have contacts in 2 or 3 of the private schools on the island. Our school is situated on the west coast and if you want to check the website out is tlccyprus.com.
These are some of the sensible factors to consider. The slower pace of life, the climate the Mediterranean diet are all plus factors and if it is something you really want to do take the risk! Hope this is helpful and not too sensible! ☀️🌴🚣.
I do,hope the swimming lesson went without any problems today. Was it a baby tooth or a second one he chipped?
Wildpurl I admire your energy going to the gym! Hope it made you feel re- energised! 🙅
Lovewine I found a product at the local pharmacy for my hair - Apivita Nature's hair colour. DH put it on for me and I have just washed it off and I am very pleased with it! So off tonight with our friends for a meal in Paphos without a wig or head scarf- feeling brave!🙉
Have put a picture up,of new hair!
Enjoy the rest of the weekend one and all!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Hi Jackie, how very lovely to hear from you😄, can't wait to see photos of spencer- as you know by now I am a real doggie person🐶!! Having your bedroom decorated sounds nice, I have loads of projects in the house I want to get on with in the new year!! New year, new start hopefully! What you said about rads touched a nerve with me- I was struck by the very same thought every day, I was the youngest there too it seemed- I am older than you I know, but still younger than everyone else, I thought how unfair life is at times. I feel for you maybe wanting another child, but positively you obviously have a lovely, supportive husband, lovely little boy and 2 nice doggie family members too now! Am sorry your dad has had cancer and chemo too, must be hard for your mum this year, know my mum has plodded on with coping with dad and of course me! What a great idea to look into going to Cyprus, good luck with house /school hunting.
I would love to meet up for a Christmas lunch, I could get the train from Leicester to your nearest city? Are you Sheffield/ South Yorkshire area, or maybe halfway in country to accommodate the more southern ladies?
Enjoy your Saturday!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good morning my lovely ladies,

I have missed you! And I'm sorry for not posting for what seems like ages. :(.
Rosie and Lovewine - I'm so sorry to hear if your fathers' illnesses. I think when you reach a grand old age, it seems so unfair to have to deal with health issues. Sending lots of positive wishes for a speedy recovery. My dad completed chemo just after me in the summer, as his bladder cancer spread.
Lovewine - I hope the water didn't do too much damage and can be fixed easily.
Rosie - I bet you can't believe you are nearly at the finishing line - how is your skin holding up? Your tickets for the shows sound very exciting. We have been to see take that for the past 3 years - and have loved each show. Greenwich is lovely - my friend lives very near there - and afternoon tea sounds something not to be missed!
Wildpurl and Joan - phew! I'm tired just reading your hectic schedules! You seem to be very well received wherever you go Wildpurl, which shows how highly you are thought of! Any organisation would be lucky to have you with your expertise and experience - so good luck with your forthcoming endeavours.
Tulamo - lovely to hear from you. Hope you're enjoying Centre Parcs - we live very close to one of them - but yet I have never been!
Kirstie - hope you enjoyed your trip away and have come back energised?
Tlj - it mustn't be very long until your boys are back for Christmas?

So - I have finished my rads on Wednesday. Out of all of the treatments, I was "looking forward" to this one the most - no needles! It didn't work out that way. What struck me every day, almost without exception, was that I was the youngest person there. That thought used to make me feel so sorry for myself - and the worst thing was it was the same every day! I don't feel unlucky to get cancer - my goodness, the stats tell us we are lucky not to get it, so I don't feel sorry for myself in that respect. But maybe just when I was older. I think it was worse because I went on my own and didn't have OH there to take my mind off it!
In other news - we have an addition to our family - will post a photo later! I bet you can guess what it is! I have been looking for a springer puppy to rescue for such a long time - they just don't come up that often (thank goodness) and when they do, they go very quickly. So anyway, I saw him on the website on Wednesday and by Saturday, he was home with us watching X-Factor! We had to go to South Wales to get him - a very long day - but he is such a sweet puppy - we all love him! We have called him Spencer!

After we come back from Cyprus, we always talk about how much we love it and our recent trip was no exception! So now OH is e-mailing schools - for me and the little one - and searching the net for a house to rent! He is really serious about moving there for a few years! Rosie I will be sending you an SOS for a reality check, as it all sounds so exciting and adventurous at the moment.
In other not so exciting news, we are having our bedroom decorated at last. We have been in our house for 10 years and not touched the bedroom, so I'm very excited! I have also begun a mammoth sort out of son's toys. It's very sad - I hate clearing out any of his younger toys - I think I wish I could keep him as my baby for ever! And probably thought I would always have another baby to play with them.
Cassie - your post made me think of my own lack of Christmas party this year! So if anyone wants to meet for a Christmas lunch or something, let me know. It won't be as exciting as Sugar Hut, I'm sure, but will be as fun!
Have great weekends everyone - I'm off to swimming lessons - he chipped his tooth during the last one, so here's hoping for a less eventful session! Love to you all x x

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Morning everyone, Rosie, good luck with hair colour, ime sure you will be able to find something suitable!! I think as long as it doesn't contain ammonia we are ok.i think you are probably right about the nursing home for your dad, it's sad though when they go into care, but at least he will have 24 hour nursing .
Wildpurl, yes it will let you know about the film, we are hopefully going tomorrow! Have also heard the film " Turner" starring Timothy spall is good if not a little slow to get going! I'm afraid my films are like my book choices if I am not gripped immediately I become bored- have a low attention span and no patience!!
Enjoy your trip to the gymnast, I do admire your energy!
I am cleaning out spare room ready for new radiator to be fitted, it's full of sons university papers etc, so think I am going to be busy today! Then I may bake some choc chip muffins!!!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Morning all! Wet and miserable here. Off to the gym in a bit for some much needed exercise. Lovewine, do let us know how you found the film, I'd be interested to know what you thought of it. Rosie, glad you had a nice meal out and that you have some more positive news of your Dad. I guess you might worry less about him if he is in a care home as he would always have people there to look after him.

Hope you all enjoy your Saturdays

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good morning everyone so much for a lie in was awake at 5.30am called it a day at 5.44!
Enjoyed our meal last night home by 9 and then I managed to skype with my sister.
Dad more comfortable with the catheter I think they take it out in the day and leave it in over night. We are thinking he will have to go into a nursing home if and when he comes out of hospital- he needs too much care now.
Well I woke up to rain this morning although it's stopped now. It can be cool here one minute and when you are in the sun t shirt weather. We have to wear layers now! Yesterday I wore socks for the first time since March!
I am going to try to find a hair product that is safe today. First port of call will be our local pharmacy where the owner speaks very good English. If no good apparently we have a Holland and Barrett in the Paphos Mall. Next item will be a beanie hat to keep my head warm in UK. Our winter coats are in a suitcase under the spare bed so will have to get these out for the UK trip on Thursday.
Hope everyone enjoys the weekend.
Kirstie hope you are ok thinking about you! You too Jackie and Lisa we haven't heard from you two for a while.😞
Lovewine are you off to the Cinema today if so hope you enjoy the film.
Wildpurl, Cassie and Joan hope you are taking things easy over the weekend.😜

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Oh I would really like to see that Lovewine, hope you enjoy it. I would also like to see Interstellar. I am hoping O.H and I will go on an Orange Wednesday in the next week or so.

Had a lovely morning in London with my daughter and bought her birthday present from May, when I was not in a fit state to go shopping. Also had my eyes made up and bought some urban decay makeup for eyes which I really love, and a cashmere cardigan. Now I need a rest!

Rosie, only 4 rads to go, you are going to feel so happy when you don't have to go any more

Going out to eat at a local Taverna tonight😜🍴🍷

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good afternoon ladies that's another week done only 4 day to go next week!!!!
I did hear from my sister in the end last night she said she was just going back to see dad he hadn't eaten anything all day but had asked for ice cream so she took him some!
Lovewine I am glad your dad is happy to be home, maybe he will gain a little weight with your mums cooking? I don't blame you looking to take on some extra help at work!
Wildpurl glad to hear you have experienced a good networking week you deserve to get a post. Hope you enjoyed your London trip with your daughter and have a great rest of the weekend!
Thank you Cassie I had looked at the Holiday Inn you mentioned but wasn't sure if it was a suitable place for both venues. You are right about the price of London hotels we pay as much for a week as for a night in London! Good job it's a one off!
War Horse will be excellent when are you going? Enjoy the taste of winter food!
Have a great Friday night everyone!🍷🍷😜

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Hello Ladies,

I hope you are all enjoying today, no rain at least, so far.

Rosie, regarding hotels in London I cannot recommend anywhere as such because obviously I live here and hotels are all rather pricey in central London but my daughter, occassionally when her partner comes to London with her stay at The Holiday Inn Express, Greenwich which she says is situated ideally for the 02 and transport to central London. I hope your father is rallying, its such a worry.

I have just booked tickets for the War Horse which I am told is terrific, I have seen the film, so I will take tissues. I decided not to attend the Christmas Office Party for once this year, The Sugar Hut in Brentwood Essex not my cup of tea Towie is filmed there, no thanks.

I am going to the Taste of Winter food tasting event tomorrow which should be yummy.

Have a good day, Cassie

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Have a lovely day with your daughter wild purl, conference sounded constructive, you did well to keep energy levels up as well as the driving, sounds as if you are back on form! Your leads too should prove fruitful, very positive👍
I am off to meet a couple of clients to talk about reinstating them on my work list, feel a little worried as my workload is beginning to creep up again- finding it very difficult to "let go" any of my clients but realistically know I have to!! Quite annoyed with cancer really as my business has taken me 20 years to build up and is succesful and I feel now that my body has really let me down!😡
So tough decisions ahead.
Joan, hope you have a good trip to Cardiff, Rosie, another week closer to finishing rads and hope you had news on your dad.
Have a good day everyone x

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good evening everyone!
Nice to hear from you tulamo. I remember that early eyelash feeling of putting mascara onto something but not sure how much eyelash was really there!
Wow rosie, good for you booking some lovely treats, I think that's a great idea. I don't know much about London hotels but I will ask my daughter, who lives in Clapham.
Joan, I hope your meetings go or have gone well.
Lovewine, that is one expensive radiator! Thank you for tips on hair dye, I am seeing my hairdresser next week and hoping to have more of a style this time and then dye my hair.

Well, I have had a busy few days. I drove to The RAF museum at Cosford in Shropshire on Monday afternoon with a colleague, it was a great venue for a conference. There were lots of colleagues and former colleagues also in attendance so I was able to do some useful networking. I came away with two new possible leads for jobs, which was good.
The conference was fun and interesting, with a very nice dinner on Tuesday night. Then yesterday afternoon I drove home. I was pleased that I coped with all the driving and am not too tired. Back to work today and a pretty frantic day, but quite constructive. I have an interview for one role next Tuesday afternoon. I have to prepare a 20 minute presentation before then! And I have been asked by one of our businesses to take on a role in an interim capacity, with a view to it maybe becoming a permanent opportunity, so I am starting work on that next week. It will give me more to do and a new challenge, so I am pleased to have been asked.
Now I am relaxing with a glass of wine and have a three day weekend to look forward to, with a trip to London tomorrow with my daughter.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

You have a busy few days Joan! At least some time to do a little bit of what you want to do!
Have a good day tomorrow in Cardiff and also babysitting duties!
My dad is very frail and has lost a lot of weight but happy to be home- district nurse coming in most days to dress foot and check bedsores.
My poor mum is doing everything now but she is very strong and copes- but do worry she will fall apart at some point- particularly as she took my illness so hard too,
Rosie, sorry you can't reach your sister for further news on your dad- hope you can catch up with her soon- you must be very worried.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good evening Joan glad you are finding time to relax between seminars! I think you are rather too handy for the babysitting!!!
Have just had an email from my sister to,say that dad was taken to Ludlow hospital this morning and she has been with him all day. Have tried to skype her but she is offline and her phone is going to answer phone! I will have to give up soon as I really need to be in bed by 10pm!
Hopefully it will help banish the memories of last years anniversary Joan! I don't usually do anything quite as rash as that!
Wildpurl hope you have had a productive week at work and enjoy your day off tomorrow.
Lovewine hope your dad has settled back at home and your mum is less stressed.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Sounds a great few days Rosie; should help to banish memories of your last anniversary. I walked past the Ritz today, tea there would be quite an experience, if rather pricey. How is your dad doing?

Lovewine, commiserations about the plumbing expense, and the delay. Hope your dad is doing ok now he's home.

Just back from a day in London, relaxing with a drink. Mainly a work related meeting but managed to fit in an hour at the Royal Academy's Moroni exhibition. some really wonderful portraits. Not as tired as I thought I would be which is fortunate because tomorrow I have another full day at a seminar in Cardiff, followed by babysitting! Why did it all have to come in the same week?

Good for you Rosie, my thinking exactly!! You deserve a special treat, why not round off the wedding anniversary with tea at one of the "posh hotels", I know friends have mine who have done this and really enjoyed it- champagne, special cakes etc🍸🍰!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Thanks Lovewine I have been even more rash now and booked Matilda the following night so we have to get somewhere between O2 and Cambridge theatre! Well you can't go all that way for 3 days and not make the most of it can you?🌎
Hope everyone else is ok and looking forward to the weekend! 😜🍷

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

How exciting rosie😃 I didn't know take that were together- shows how out of touch I am these days! Yes I do remember your anniversary this year, a much better one next year!! I think it's great to do impulsive treats and outings,we deserve it. I had a wash out of a 52 nd birthday too in June, spent most of it in bed feeling like Sh.t, two days after chemo, so hoping a better birthday for next year- good for you👏 I am not sure of hotels, maybe cassie or Wildpurl may have a better idea being in the vicinity, will ask my son as he goes down a lot.
It's very quiet on here the last few days, hope you are all ok? Busy with work I expect!!

I have just done something very impulsive and expensive and booked Take That tickets for O2 in June when it will be our 38th wedding anniversary if you remember I spent the 37th on a drip,in emergency! Does anyone know any reliable hotels in striking distance of the 02?

Rosie, I know you are dark haired, I think these colours would be easy for you to do in this range, my thinking was when coloured mine was if it was a disaster I still could plonk wig on until it recovered! I used to have my coloured at hairdressers but became fed up with high cost so started using nice n easy hair colour and have used it for about 7 years without a problem, now I will use the naturtint range as it is much more gentle and no ammonia, parabens etc.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

How lovely to hear you are doing well tulamo, I found my lashes and brows came back almost overnight! You do feel so much better with them, to put mascara on is such a joy! I also agree with Joan and Rosie, to leave returning to work for a while is sensible, I would have done too if not self employed😩 enjoy your time at centre parts. I wish I didn't have to have nurse for 2 hours after, I could squeal with boredom! My nurse comes from a private agency that does chemo and oncology injections, called healthcare at home,it's paid for by nhs for herceptin patients, is yours the same? And do you have any side effects?
Rosie, hope your dad hangs in there for your visit, what a stressful situation for you to be facing, I really feel for you, especially as facing my own worries with my dad's health too.
Regarding hair colouring, you can safely colour hair with nature tint colour or Daniel field watercolour range, they are both safe to use after chemo, I felt much more like" me" when I coloured mine!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Tulamo good to hear from you and so glad you are enjoying Centre Parcs!
I agree with Joan the only bonus about chemo was the not having to,shave legs all summer! I know have do mine every week! Your eye lashes will spring all of a sudden and younfeel,so,much better with eyelashes and brows again! I think we all all waiting for hair. I have a very thick carpet that is growing in length but I can't unwrap it until I can colour it!!!!!
How lucky you had a critical illness policy! We had one up until about 7 years ago and we let it slip. How I wished we hadn't!
Hope everyone else is managing their week. I can't believe there are still 2 day so of this week left to get up early!
Dad holding his own at the moment we travel a week tomorrow night!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Tulamo, great to hear from you and glad that you are having a good holiday. I remember the day I first looked down at my legs and thought I need to shave them before I go out. A great feeling because of what it means although not having to shave them was one of the few advantages of chemo. Hope the eyelashes become noticeable soon; I found mine were suddenly there and it was great to be able to wear mascara again. Your decision not to go back to work until after Xmas sounds very sensible, our bodies (and minds) do need time to recover. I think quite a few of us have decided to cut down our hours when we do go back. It's good that you have a bit of a cushion for the financial loss. Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Hi, had to step back from forum for a while having just finished chemo needed a break from it all. Just spent ages catching up on posts, everyone seems to have been having a hard time recently whether it be ongoing treatment family members work worries hope everyone manages to resolve their issues  soon.

I have been busy getting things ready for our holiday at center parcs we arrived last Friday and have had a lovely time my little boy loves the swimming pools and we go to see Santa tomorrow.

I always have so much to organise with all the animals to be looked after when we go away harder this time as we haven't left the pup before and he is used to more company during the day. Still its only for a few days so hopefully he wont have destroyed the kitchen before we get home.

I had to have my herceptin Friday morning before we set off I dont have to wait at all after the injection this was number 4 its odd how different areas deal with these things but having a nurse hang round at my house for 2 hours would drive me mad !!

I noticed today I had slightly hairy legs and will have to shave them also got a sort of cockatoo look going on on the top of my head. Head hair seems to be thickening up but my remaining hair is so dry and straggly its driving me mad will have to go to hairdresser though dont want it cut short.

Am still waiting for eyelashes to become visible can feel them growing but cant see any. Felt really down a couple of weeks back as starting to feel a bit better but look awful and realised it would be a very long time til I see the old me again - if ever.

Decided not tomgo back to work until after Christmas despite going onto half pay next month. We are now mortgage free thanks to a critical illness policy I had so we can manage for a little while, when I go back will probably do just a 3 day week  as life gets so stressful trying to fit in animals child house shopping etc but I am already feeling guilty about it so know exactly how others feel about this.

Must try and get some sleep hope the dads start getting better soon and the sons come through their difficulties,  good luck to all still having treatment.

Sorry no individual posts  but just want to say thinking of you all and Jackie hope you're ok

Joan, good your day went well with your work commitments, I feel the same too regarding retail therapy, I always used to go to my local shopping centre every week and take great delight in browsing through Next, marks and spencer etc, but during chemo I didn't go and now I just can't be bothered , the rare times I have I find the queuing up and getting there very tedious!, online shopping for me now!👜👗👚👠

Lovewine, great that your dad is now home, I hope that means less stress for your mum and you. How annoying about the leak, the last thing you need at the end of a long day. Hope you manage to get a plumber tomorrow.

The first of my work related things went well today, although I had a real anxiety dream last night and woke up pretty stressed. It was an interesting seminar and my brain seemed to be functioning reasonably well. Bit disappointed in myself though that despite lots of opportunities for retail therapy (the seminar was at Dartington Hall and just down the road is the Cider Press which has craft shops, deli, etc) all I managed to buy was a couple of gilets in the sale and some eyeshadow. I've done so little looking round shops over the last 9 months it seems to have lost its attraction.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Evening ladies, Rosie, you must be really fed up now with all the travelling, you have had a long day today.
Dad came home this afternoon after his Red Cross equipment arrived, nice to have him home, has to return to hospital a week today to see if they are going to operate!
I have had a long working day, was just having 5 minutes sit down before starting cooking dinner and noticed pools of water in my hallway, after much investigating found the radiator in spare room above is leaking and valve seized up, water dripping from it quite fast and coming through ceiling! O/H at work until 10.00 p.m so mopped up best as can and put containers under valve to try and catch water!! A plumber is needed tomorrow I think!
Hope everyone else is having a better day😩

Dad hopefully coming out of hospital tomorrow by ambulance, the Red Cross are delivering his equipment tomorrow too, my poor mum has visited him every day for past 14 days so she looks worn out and has definitely lost weight she only weighs about 7 stone already so can't really lose anymore! Joan our posts must have crossed I missed yours. I still have 8 radiotherapy sessions left adjoin Imfinish on Nov 27th the day we fly to UK to see dad!
Joan if you have some cotton wool you could use that to stuff your bra out to give you a symmetrical shape! You are bound to be anxious about getting back to work hopefully they will be gentle with you.
Bad luck boiling the pudding dry I always used to buy the pudding but make the cake!
Lovewine what a nuisance that OH has to have surgery presumably it will be after Christmas now?
I have just had a caramel Tassimo!
