Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Yes more waiting Rosie! Managed a glass of wine at the pub and now waiting the arrival of tandoori chicken from takeaway!
Hope you had a nice day and you are feeling a little better now? Hope you had some nice chats with your family and your dad is ok ?
Seems a bit quiet on today on here, so hope you are all doing nice things!

Oh dear Lovewine more waiting!!!! I can understand that it would be difficult to be nice to her if they end up staying together!

Thanks Rosie! She is back in Leicestershire next week at some point! Due to move into her student house, with the plan of moving in together next year- will see what happens! Must say if they do do stay together I am going to find it very difficult to be nice to her!!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good Morning Lovewine I am sorry about sons girlfriends behaviour it does not bode well. Your poor son. Has she gone just for the day to London or for the whole week? Hopefully as you say this will be resolved very soon. It's a good idea keeping your son busy less time to dwell. Good luck with the chores and hope you manage to get to the pub it sounds like you and OH could do with a very large something or other!!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Morning everyone, hope you get to speak to your dad Rosie, my dad is nearly deaf but hardly turns his hearing aid on, so end up with a sore throat from shouting! You sound like you had a busy day yesterday and a nice meal too- I love seafood it's my favourite! Especially prawns. Well yesterday started awful with son really in a bad way, G/F back in Surrey Friday evening and he didn't hear a word until Late afternoon when her expensive bouquet of roses arrived at her door( note the cynicism ! ) and she honoured him via Facebook with a thankyou! He perked up a little for rest of evening as it was a step up on being ignored, he helped me round up chickens and a very cantakorous blind duck last night which kept him busy, he also hoovered and walked the dogs too! Anything to keep him busy I thought! Really hope we get some kind of resolution in the week as he is totally worn down and so are myself and O/H , on another cynical note- she gas gone to London with her mother today to London fashion week, excuse my ignorance but my experience of genuine depression is you wouldn't be remotely interested in doing this!
Anyway, lots of chores to do today- housework, washing, paying bills etc, etc.
Might sneak in a early evening drink at the pub though and an Indian takeaway!
Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Shame Lovewine but think of the weight you would have put on if you had kept it all to yourself!
Hope this finds everybody well . I managed to get up,some steps from the car park,in Paphos to get to the watch repair shop to get a new battery for my watch. It requires a special tool to open it with so we can't get the back off ourselves to put a battery in! Then I had to walk down the ramp back to the car my right leg at this stage started to protest. By the time we got to the super market I was ok and managed to help with the shopping!
I was shattered when we got home and slept form half and hour. We went out to eat last night I had garlic prawns, rice and vegetables with a glass of Rose.
Sunday is usually a busy skype day for me daughter in the morning sons in the evening and my sister has now found the technology so I will be skyping her to find out the low down on dad! I will also be able to,speak to dad on the telephone today as he has a speaker attached to his phone so he stands a chance of hearing.
Hope you all have a restful Sunday especially you Lovewine!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Tapas sounds lovely! Enjoy your evening Joan, I think you did very well eating half of the cake- must say the combinations sound rather odd for a cake, am with you Rosie , good trustworthy Victoria sponge, in fact I bought one from marks and spencer earlier ( part funds of sale going to macmillan cancer) and have just had a very large slice with a strong black coffee! Shame on me for not baking it myself but not great at sponge cakes! And couldn't be bothered either!
Think you are right Rosie about the aches and pains being stress related , the body is continually tense even when asleep so it's not surprising.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Glad the lunch was okay Joan I must say I would have struggled with the cake. Can't beat a good old Victoria sponge!
Are you having sangria with you tapas? Hope you enjoy your evening and planning your forthcoming trip.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Lunch with son in laws parents yesterday went well. Delicious food. They had also made a cake for tea so we didn't leave till 5 . It was an experiment, an Italian recipe using chestnut flour topped with pine nuts raisins and rosemary which looked fantastic but tasted horrible! Forced down half out of politeness (not something I usually say about cake) then had to give up pleading satiety. I don't think any of the others enjoyed it either but they managed to finish.

The couple we are go into Barcelona with are coming over this evening so I'm doing tapas. Another trip to Waitrose!

Rosie, what a shame the radiotherapy is likely to cut across your daughters visit. Hope your cough and cold improve soon. Sorry you had such a bad night. It will be good to get the inflationary completed but it sounds really uncomfortable.

Lovewine, sorry you had trouble sleeping too. I hope the weekend isn't too awful but you are bound to be on tenterhooks wondering what is going to happen. I haven't been troubled with generalised aches and pains just an achy shoulder on my operation side. But our bodies have been through so much it's not surorising. I do still have the numbness and my eyes are still watering so I suppose it just takes a while for the side effects to disappear.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Lovewine you could certainly do without the stress of the chickens. I would be tempted to leave them in the coop!
My legs ache and won't support me very well if I am standing still. My arms aren't too bad apart from left one still feels tight under the arm due to restricted movement during prolonged healing of wound!
Maybe your aches and pains are from the stress you are experiencing at the moment? Hope your weekend isn't as bad as you are anticipating!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Have a lovely, relaxing, wig free week Wildpurl!
Rosie, yes I have been having a rather large glass of wine each night this week whilst listening to Son saying how devastated he will be if she ends relationship etc, etc! Chocolate is definitely in my purchases today!
Do any of you feel achey now eight weeks on from end of chemo? I am not taking any medication as am not oestrogen positive, but feel almost menopausal again and thought I had done with all that last year! I feel really ancient, sore knees, arms, back and just about everything!
Well off down the road to let my neighbours chickens out! They are away for the weekend and ime lumbered looking after them! The stress is immense as I am worried sick the fox is going to kill them! Letting them out in morning is ok, but shutting them up at dusk is a nightmare trying to count them in the coop, plus there is a blind duck who is very grumpy and won't go in without a fight! Oh the joy of it all!!
Good day everyone .

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Morning Lovewine It must be awful for you waiting to see what happens over the weekend! When she gets the flowers she may be prompted to ring him!
Your son will return to the confident young man you have created but he has to work through this in his own time. It sounds like you could do with some chocolate in your shopping and a pudding oh and don't forget the wine!
I got into bed with my kindle last night and read 3 pages before I had to turn off the light I still get so tired and that's with a nap in the day as well!
Good morning Wildpurl I expect it's all systems go your end this morning.
I week between fills Wildpurl and then I had a double one on the right side. My recovery time from the fills will be the radiotheraphy! But to be honest it's so dammed uncomfortable I shall be glad to,get it over with quickly. He is hoping to get them out and implants in before Christmas which gave me a little light at the end of another tunnel!
Enjoy your week without the wig safe journey and have a lovely time!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Morning Lovewine, OH woke me up at 5.30 and we are now having breakfast and then going to load the car. I do hope things improve for your son and his GF, it's horrible seeing them like that.

Sorry you are not feeling well Rosie, maybe a sofa day is called for? Only one more fill to go, I find them quite uncomfortable for a few days and then they settle down, but I have had months between mine, not weeks.

My wig isn't real hair either and one good thing about it is that it doesn't frizz if it gets wet, which my real hair does! It's a real hair week this week, the wig is staying in its box.

Hope things improve as the day goes on

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Morning Rosie, I have been awake since 5.00 a.m worrying about my son! Madam flew back last night and now at her parents in surrey- due to return to uni on Tuesday. My son has ordered flowers for her to receive today even tho she has ignored him all week! I am so worried about him, hes gone from a know-it-all, confident young man into a gaunt , very sad one. I hope she gets back on her medication pretty damn quick.
Anyway, I think me and O/H are going to have a difficult weekend with him.
Know what you mean about waiting for a decent time to go to bed with your book! I clock watch from 9.00 p.m !
Yes Fat face is an off name for a clothes shop! Doesn't sound flattering does it! Am going to try and get some enthusiasm to drive into the city and might look in their shop! Do need some wellies though! Also have heard recommended a shampoo from "lush" that's supposed to promote hair growth and I definitely need some of that! Will get some if a decent price, but not spending much on it as a bit sceptical!! But really fed up with wig and hats now too.
Hope food shopping day goes ok and not too tiring, maybe some chocolate in the trolley would be in order today, or a nice pudding!!
Hope you get rid of cough and cold soon, maybe ask for some antibiotics for cough? You don't want a chest infection on top of everything else! Enjoy your day as best as you can. Take care . X

Not had a good night couldn't get comfortable! Finally gave up at 5.15am mind I did go to bed at 10.15. I have woken up wiith a chesty tight cough that is making my expanding chest muscles hurt! Feeling sorry for myself!
Do hope you are all feeling better than I am.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Oh Lovewine that's good to know about the wig and the rain mine isn't real hair either. I thought white stuff was either white goods or white clothes!!!! Mm Fat Face not keen on the name it sounds like it should be an outsize shop!
My chest has really swollen now I don't think I will need to use the softies anymore. While I have this cold I am taking the Panadol Cold and flu tablets so,hope, fully they will keep the worst pressure and soreness at bay for a while! I am waiting for 10pm a decent time to turn in with my book!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Hi Rosie, I have got mine wet in the rain lots of times! It just dries out like your own hair( mine isn't real hair) . I feel for you having these blooming inflations, they really don't sound very comfortable at all at least the last one is next week. White stuff and Fat face are clothing shops, selling casual clothes and nice pretty prints, very nice! Can't believe how quickly the weeks are passing and your daughters visit is not that far away, annoying though radiotherapy will interfere with the visit though. You are getting more energy too by the sound of it, walking further and going into school etc, good on you.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good Evening just got back from Limassol and had another inflation, a double whammy in the right! The surgeon is hoping to get a further and final inflation in on Friday. It won't matter about the left being inflated at the same time as radiotherapy. It will be just my luck get a call on Monday to go next week! I am now hoping it will be the week after so,I can get the right side fully inflated! Whenever the rads happen now its going to cut right across half term when our daughter and family are here.
Wildpurl, glad everything turned out ok for OH with the Scottish vote. I managed to walk the dog round the block today was quite pleased about that!
What does White Stuff sell I have never heard of it! Also,Fat Face?
Hope, you get everything done before you go. It's always when you are busy trying to get ready to go you wonder why you actually go away at all. I find it very stressful when we are going for a flight! But of course it is worth it when you are there! Have a great time hope the weather will be kind.
Lovewine I haven't experienced my wig blowing yet I will have that joy to come. What happens if they get wet in the rain?

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Afternoon ladies, back from my 5th day at work, not feeling too tired. We have lots to do to get ready and pack for our holiday, I shall be exhausted by evening! We were both quite relieved that Scotland is staying in the UK, OH is Scottish and most of his family are still in Scotland. He would have had some hard choices to make about whether or not to be a Scottish national if the vote had been yes.

Lovewine, it is very hard when your grown up children are unhappy, not much you can do except wait for them to need comforting. I do hope there is some kind of resolution for your son soon, it is hard just waiting and not knowing what is going to happen.

Cassie, your boob doesn't sound very comfortable, I hope it heals well. It sounds as though your hair is doing well.

Rosie it's good that the painkillers have eased your discomfort somewhat, even though that is not a permanent solution. What a long drawn out process your radiotherapy planning is turning out to be! Well done for being able to go round the supermarket now, I think that's quite demanding.

I love White Stuff, you got some bargains there by the sound of it Tlj.

Right, I had better go and pick aubergines (don't ask) and get on with packing before I fall asleep on the sofa. We will be up and off early tomorrow. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Lovely to hear from you cassie, sorry about your ironed boob though, I was warned last week that radiotherapy can make the boob look deformed- it's never ending isn't it?! Have a lovely time in Norfolk with your family and I do hope it stays dry and not blowing a gale- thought my wig was going to blow off towards France when we went in august, but it didn't budge an inch!!
Tij, sounds like a successful shopping trip! I love white stuff and also fat face too! In our market town they are next door to each other and sometimes the temptation is too much!
Joan, hope you managed to enjoy your lunch out!
Rosie, how annoying all this faffing around for appointments- it's really dragging on now, hope you soon get rid of the cold!

I hope you get your brain cells in operation for your lunch outing!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Hi Cassie, nice to hear from you. Like your description of your radioed boob, though not good about the soreness. I am also 8 weeks on from chemo with no sign of returning eyebrows or eyelashes.

Rosie, how frustrating about the radiotherapy. Hope your cold gets better soon. Glad the meds for that have helped a bit with the discomfort from the expanders. Would you be able to continue with painkillers afterwards.

Feeling even more knackered this morning. Entirely my own fault. Had two cups of non decaf coffee yesterday then started listening to the radio for the first results of the referendum and didn't get to sleep until 5, despite a large glass of whiskey. And can't lie around, going to lunch with son in laws parents so will have to have enough brain cells in operation to maintain a conversation.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Cassie good to hear from you! Hope you have a great day in Norfolk visiting your daughter and grandson.
Are you still having rads?
When my eyebrows appeared it all happened very quickly they came back really thick and I had to have them waxed!
The eyelashes were a bit slower. They started off tiny and lengthened up over about 2 weeks I can now use mascara! I still have a long way to go with my hair. Although it has thickened up it's only about 1 cm in length.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Tlj it's the CT planning for the radiology where they plan out where they are going to zap you.
Glad you made some purchases, I haven't heard of White Stuff though!
Is your son coming home for a weekend or are you going to see him?

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Hello Ladies,

I have been reading the thread on and off and am sorry to hear that things are not going well.

Lovewine, it must be heartbreaking to see your son so unhappy, I hope he finds the strength to either end the relationship it or set some sort of deadline to sort it out, get help or whatever it may take the longer it goes on the worse he will be.

Rosie I hope your cold is better soon, and the rediation therapy goes well, shame you have such a long way to travel.

I am going up to Norfolk today to see my eldest daughter and grandson, he is excited that I will be meeting him after school today, bless. We have a festival to go to and maybe a picnic on the beach if the weather permits.

I am a bit sore from the rads it looks like someone has ironed my right boob. No sign of eye lashes or eyebrows yet 😞  its now been eight weeks since the last chemo, so we will see, my hair is not too bad, slightly vampire like during the day and Ken Dodd in the morning when I get up, it will thicken up soon I hope!

Wishe you all well x Cassie

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Oh Rosie, how frustrating. Do you know what the CT is for? You may have been referred for a CT of your chest, abdomen and pelvis to ensure that the rest of your body is clear of anything nasty. That would be done in the diagnostic radiology department. Whereas the radiotherapy department may also have a CT scanner that they use to plan the exact positioning of the radiation beam for the radiotherapy treatment. Sounds like you have got lost in the system. Perhaps they want to do a diagnostic CT before they make any decisions on the radiotherapy. Hope you get it sorted out.
I had quite a productive trip to the shops. There was a 20% off day in White Stuff, so I have to admit a couple of items were purchased.
My son rang at 9pm last night having just got back from London. He sounded exhausted but his housemaster was making something to eat which was kind, so didn't get much of a chance to chat. Can't wait to see him this time next week.
Hope everybody has a good day.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Have just phoned the radiology dept to be told the doctor had made a referral for a CT appointment and I would have to ring back in a few days! This was the same doctor that told me I was a high risk patient and wanted me to have the works! I think I will still be having radiotherapy at Christmas the rate we are going! Not a chance now of completing the surgery this year. We are flying to UK for a week and I don't want any surgery 2 weeks before I fly thank you ever again!

Lovewine if you threaten to get the mower out will he mow it then?
My cold kept me awake in the night I was downstairs by 5.00am. Am taking Panadol cold and flu tablets and I think, they are masking a degree of tissue expander discomfort and muscle pain!
Hope you get on okay with your work and shopping. We have that joy to come tomorrow! At least I can manage to walk around the supermarket now but I am exhausted when we come out! I managed to walk the dog down to the bin at the end of the road yesterday as we had a smelly kitchen bin form fish the night before and it needed to go!!!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Have a good day everyone, Rosie, how are you feeling today- hope a little better! Sounds like you and D/H had your fair share of obstacles too, I admire you for meeting and building a life together from a young age, I married young( 20 ) and divorced at 23 ! Then had a few " wild" years until meeting my husband and having my 2 sons . So hopefully one way or another my sons relationship will be sorted this weekend, he is going into work, but looks dreadful.
I am doing some work and then a big of boring , essential shopping and then maybe nag hubby to mow the lawn- think I might be pushing my luck to try and mow it myself!

Hi Joan I can understand your bitty posts I sometimes use them because I get so cross when I lose a load of text!
Wonder what your granddaughter will make of school on Friday, today?
Our youngest granddaughter has just started Year 1 and she likes to read her book to me on Skype, they really grow up in a year! Her brother has just started nursery . They have a kitten called Alfie and I heard him say the other day, " Alfie man, what are you doing?!" They live in Newcastle!
Still, don't know the final verdict about Scotland I think it will be about an hour at least.
Well done for making the journey and I am glad you enjoyed your colleagues welcome back!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good morning all!
Lovewine I am so sorry about the situation that your son is in and hopefully when the girlfriend returns they will sort themselves out! It's very hard for you when you know what you would like to say to your son but of course can't. He would shout, get cross and maybe storm off accusing you of not understanding! Is he still going into work as this will give him some degree of normality?
Chris and I met when we were 16/17. Chris went off to teacher training college in Leeds and I was left at home doing A levels. One weekend my mother said to me" why don't you go out with some friends, I bet Chris is off with a blonde!" Well I was so angry I slammed the cup down on the saucer, the best set, and smashed them both and stomped off!!!'
It will be easier to resolve once she is back in the country. Thinking of you this weekend. X

Evening Joan, sounds like your granddaughter has settled in school very well so far! Let's hope the enthusiasm lasts for at least another few weeks! I can remember one of my sons was the same in his description until about day 5 then said he was fed up with school now and would rather not go again- as if he had a choice!!
I agree with you regarding hair, hardly have any and as it's white/grey just looks like a boiled egg anyway!
Tij, did you have a succesful shopping trip! I hope to go at the weekend to look for some wellies for winter dog walking- how exciting!

Sorry about all the bitty posts. Having had one post refused I decided this was the safest way to proceed this evening. London trip went well, it was good to feel involved again in work, even if only for a couple of hours and everyone was so welcoming, lots of hugs. Feel pretty knackered now though with a three hour journey each way.

Wonder what we will wake up to tomorrow morning. Will it be goodbye Scotland?

TiJ, my hair is also scarcely visible and seems to be mainly white. Very envious of those with more especially Wildpurl being almost normal. Makes me wonder whether I should have braved the cold cap. Still, too late now. Glad all well with the scan. And it sounds as if your son is having a great time at his new school. My granddaughter started school a couple of weeks ago. On Monday she said school had been magnificent.on Tuesday it was fantastic. On Wednesday it was merely pretty good. Haven't heard about today yet.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Evening everyone, have had another 2 days of consoling my very stressed son and his problems with his depressed girlfriend who returns this weekend, he is not eating , sleeping and looks dreadful, am very worried about him, but feel hopeless to help and quite drained with it all,
Jackie, am sorry you have had such a stressful appointment and not the news you were expecting to hear, and the loss of your uncle , sending you a hug and am thinking of you, it is awful at times like this to be away
From your family, I so feel for you.
Rosie, a cold on top of everything else, what a bloody nuisance, hope you can start on herceptin soon, at least your scan has showed some improvement, your dad will feel unsure and vulnerable for a while I would think after being in hospital, hope he settles into an acceptable routine that he can manage safely, it is such a worry for you.
Wildpurl, hope you get everything sorted before you go away! Fingers crossed you get some nice weather to appreciate the beautiful scenery.
I did manage to cut my workload down a little today, but with the problems with my son I feel like I've worked a 12 hour day !

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Evening Joan I still haven't driven as I had a temperature 2 days ago and today I have a cold. I will have to,get myself going before I start radiotherapy as I have to get to Paphos to,get the patients bus to Nicosia!
My sister had updated me and saying that dad is feeling vulnerable being back home which I am not surprised about! He has carers in the morning and evening going in.
I drove on and off during chemo when I felt like it . But I used to forget to use my mirrors!!!' It's been 10 weeks since I last drove.
Wildpurl hope you get all your jobs done before you head off to Wales!
Lovewine hope you have a relaxing evening and the rest of you !

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Rosie, good news that your dad is thought to be well enough to go home but I can understand your anxiety as to whether he will cope. How fortunate that your sister is nearby. I know what you mean about the driving. I haven't driven since March. First there was the sentinel node biopsy, then chemo made me feel so shaky and made my eyes run, then surgery. But it has also been easy to avoid it because husband has been around. Must make an effort.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Oh Jackie, my heart goes out to you; what a lot of bad news and uncertainty to have to cope with. I hope when you get the full report and have the opportunity to discuss it with your surgeon things won't look so bleak and the next steps will be clearer. Will be thinking of you.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Jackie, sending big hugs your way! What a stressful appointment and not ideal seeing another surgeon either. It sounds as though you have been left in limbo a bit, which is very hard for you, like Rosie I hope that when you see your surgeon the news is better than expected. I'm also very sorry to hear about your uncle.

Lovewine, good idea to watch the amount of work and not overdo it. I should take my own advice but as I am on hols after tomorrow I am very busy this week.

Tlj, good to hear from you, lucky you having a good browse of the shops, I am going to go shopping when I get back from my holiday as I have lots of things I want to browse for. Yes, I cold capped and although my hair thinned in places I kept a reasonable amount and it has been growing during and since chemo.

Pleasant evenings to all

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Jackie firstly I am very sorry about the death of your uncle these things never seem to happen at a good time. Do you think it's possible that the surgeon you saw today had the wrong report in front of him? It's going to be a long week waiting Jackie for your own surgeon and the full path report. I do hope that when you see him the news will be much better than expected! Thinking of you this week!'x

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Morning everyone,

Hope you're all having the best mornings you can x x. I went for the results of my mx and node clearance yesterday. First off it was a preliminary report, so the surgeon was reluctant to share with me - second he wasn't the surgeon who did my op either, the surgeon who did my op is on holiday.
So he eventually said that 15/23 nodes tested positive for cancer which floored me as I've already had chemo. The second blow was that he said the lump was bigger than first thought and the third was that they found more than one. So I left the appointment in a daze. He wasn't prepared to commit to anything but mentioned the possibility of more chemo!!!! So I have an appointment for next week with the surgeon who did the op, who should have the full path report. Unfortunately my onc is on holiday that week, so will have to wait until the week after to talk to her. As if that wasn't bad enough, my beloved Uncle died yesterday and I'm stuck 120 miles away from all of my family.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Lovewine the echo showed improvement but it is not yet normal. Whether this will be enough to prescribe herceptin I am not sure! I have to fax a copy to the oncologist. I finally managed to get to speak,to,some one in the radiography dept in Nicosia and they have to speak to the doctor I saw there 2 weeks ago before giving me an appointment! She said she would call me back when she has spoken to her! To top everything else I have woken up with a cold!!!
Hope you succeed in cutting back on the work today Lovewine it's not always that easy when you get involved in something is it?
Tlj glad to hear from you I think the ladies talking about haircuts are the cold cap ladies. Mine is growing but is nowhere near ready to go on public display! Excuse me for asking but is an inflatable implant different to a tissue expander? You shouldn't feel guilty about going for, browse round the shops child free after all you have been through! Hope you have a good time.
Glad to hear your son is doing so,well it must be such a relief to you knowing h is happy. At the end of the day that's all an of us want for our children to be well and happy.
