Hello everyone, it’s all a bit mad at the moment, but at least the weather is improving. OH and I are working from home at the moment, the idea is 2 weeks at home, one week in the office. We don’t socialise much so not much change to our lifestyle so far, the closure of gyms has hit me hardest and I will be doing yoga and Pilates from home online if I can.
we are just starting the gardening season as the weather has been so carp. This weekend we have mowed the lawn and sown seeds and seed potatoes.
I am knitting as usual and spinning but do not really have much additional spare time apart from the two hours a day I would have been commuting, so we are just getting on as usual. The supermarkets have made a huge effort and we can see things returning to normal thank goodness.
Sadly I will have to cancel our weekend staying with DS after Easter and I do not think we will be able to go on our holiday to Shetland in May but in both cases I hope we will be able to go later this year. We are very lucky to have our garden and hobbies to keep us occupied, all we can do is just take everything one day at a time, it reminds me very much of cancer treatment in that respect.
I'm glad to hear you are all well and getting by, I hope you all keep well.
I’m pleased you are feeling somewhat better Cassie. Although you dont sound fully recovered I expect the stress isnt helping, it sounds horrendous. I see Sainsburys now have a dedicated time first thing in the morning for NHS workers, like you it doesnt seem sensible to be in the same slot with the elderly and vulnerable. Rosie, we have also found the smaller shops a better bet in terms of having stocks, with the advantage of fewer people. We will have to rely on them too, since there dont appear to be any delivery slots at all for the foreseeable future. Some people are bring so selfish and thoughtless. OH went down to our local bakers yesterday and while most people were being sensible and keeping their distance, one man was just ignoring it. At the hospital on Monday as well, in a very large waiting area, we sat down away from everyone but people kept coming in snd sitting next to us. We moved 4 times. Pacemaker is working fine.
Rosie, how fortunate EGD did well in her mock exams. What are her plans next. And fortunate that EGS has his sister to ease the transition to middle school. It does sound like schools are going to be under a lot of pressure, although its a good idea to make provision for key workers- I wonder how France is managing without any such provision. There do seem to be rather more categories than originally envisaged.
I’m having no problems keeping busy at the moment. On the contrary trying to meet a work deadline, hospital appointments and getting to grips with new technology as well as communicating with people more frequently than usual is all quite time consuming, although nice. Spent a fun hour or so on Saturday playing Articulate with 8 members of the family, including grandchildren using Zoom, which is a video conferencing app.
My colonoscopy is still going ahead on Wednesday so I have started on the diet. Essentially none of the things I would normally eat-fruit, veg, brown bread. I can still eat chocolate and alcohol unless its red.
,My chief worry at the moment is ED, working in a south London hospital which had 90 Covid 19 in patients last Friday. Fortunately shes not on those wards, shes been moved from her usual work to back fill for respiratory staff who have been moved onto the Covid wards. But all very scary. She seems remarkably calm but then I guess as a doctor you have to be.
keep safe everyone.
Good Afternoon Ladies,
Thank you all for your kind get well wishes, I went back to work on Weds after being off for 7 days I worked on a borrowed laptop on Mon & Tues, its very difficult though because of needing to be in at least 3 screens at the same time Clinical System, Emails (Mine and generic email inbox for clinical docs) and docman our clinical document inbox from our local hospital departments I just cannot access it all. I have swiped a driver for a scanner in case we can only work from home at some point I will then bring my scanner home too. The logistics will find there way in the end in time but I like everyone else have no idea how or when that will be. We have heard good things about being supported but that's it so far. Extra configured laptops and card readers that work for prescriptions should I am told be coming soon.
I and two others are constantly feeling headachy and washed out but the temperature has stayed down, one nurse is self isolating and we are trying to practice social distancing but a couple of our rooms are small so its not always possible, some patients just don't get it ! We have been asked to close our doors and only deal with the patients by phone but I had to answer a couple of times and stand back or the door was going to be knocked off its hinges. Patients wanting to collect prescriptions and order new ones which can all be done remotely to a pharmacy of choice but some like to argue about it, trying to explain that we need to protect ourselves or nobody will get any prescriptions issued is like talking to a wall for some unfortunately.
The shops are bare I however was fortunate Waitrose allowed me in at 8.15 this morning with the elderly and vulnerable, I am not sure that NHS workers should be in the supermarkets at the same time though.
There was a que of about 200 or more waiting to come in just as I left. The streets are empty all very surreal Keep safe Ladies x
Good Morning ladies!
What surreal times we are encountering! 🙀
Hopefully you are all getting food supplies? We have found that the smaller food stores tend to have everyday needs rather than the big supermarkets.
I wasn’t surprised to hear that bars, restaurants etc were asked to close!
What I am struggling with is that schools were closed yesterday but it’s work as usual for the teachers who have to look after the huge list of key worker children!
DD says that GS’s school can only accept 20% of them as they have so many so she is going to take GS to school with her from Monday!
In France ES says that schools are shut for all and parents have to work from home there is no provision for Key workers children! They have to print off a paper to sign and date to say why they are out of the house!😳🙀🥺 Only one can go for shopping or a walk!
EGD should be taking her A levels next term - but now isn’t. Fortunately for her she did well in her mocks so she is relieved! A very difficult time for students leaving school! EGS finished First School yesterday and will start middle school with no induction. Fortunately his sister attends so he will have insight into how it works!
Goodness knows what the 6th form leavers are going to do with themselves for the next few months with no exams to prepare for!
Difficult times ladies!😬
Joan I hope that all went well with your pacemaker check?
Lovewine you must be glad to have the dogs so you can get out on regular walks! Hope your parents and elderly aunt are ok?
Cassie hopefully you have recovered from whatever you had and that other family members are well.
Wildpurl are you able to work from home? At least you have your garden and many craft activities to keep you occupied!
Hope you all keep sane in our restricted lifestyles! DH said shall I go and finish the job I was doing at the motorhome, YES I said! 🤣
I have a stock of library books a puzzle on the go and a spare one!😄
Cassie , that does seem a very high temperature - I hope you are starting to recover now - so sorry you have been so poorly and I agree with Rosie and Joan on you not being tested as a health worker . One of my daily dog walking friends is a health visitor and she is attending a meeting today to see if she is going to be called upon to work in either A and E or high dependency unit if needed as she is trained in both😏. Our health workers are so important particularly at the moment .. I also agree with the elderly given time to shop . We went grocery shopping as usual on Saturday morning and it was chaotic - full of people stockpiling goods, my friends daughter was unable to buy nappies or formula milk for her baby and her OH queued outside Morrison’s early the next day when the delivery lorry had been - these times bring out the best in people but sadly also the worse ! It’s so selfish to panic buy.
Cassie, Im sorry you are so poorly, that was a pretty high temperature. Its seems quite incredible that you arent being tested. Even if the symptoms maybe dont quite fit, if you dont gave a cough, surely the fact you are a health worker should make a difference. Hope you are fully recovered soon and have plenty to occupy you in your self isolation other than work. I like your idea of a dedicated shopping time for over 70’s. Its so depressing to see people being so selfish and stockpiling with no regard for others, especially those who dont have the money to buy more than they need. But I do think the supermarkets should set lower limits on the amount people can. Nobody can possibly need more than two of an item, especially 9 roll packs of toilet paper. Off to Southmead now to have my pacemaker checked. I decided that was an appt I really needed to keep so keeping fingers crossed there arent loads of people in the waiting area. Rosie, how fortunate you are back from your travels.
Cassie I am sorry that you have been ill but can’t understand why you couldn’t be provided with a Swob to check especially in your line of work! 😡
Now you will never know if you have had it or not from your symptoms I would suggest it is quite likely that you have indeed had it!
Hope you have all the food supplies you need whilst you are in isolation!
Get well soon! 💐
I too support the over 70’s being given an hour to shop!
Good Morning Ladies
It is indeed worrying times, one of the reasons I have not posted more often recently is not to worry you all but I thing with the media we have all gone beyond that. I am currently self isolating I do not think it is the corona virus but obviously we cannot take any chances I had a temperature of 41.2 for a day banging headache and slight earache. The temperature is now really low 35.2 so who knows? I do not have the criteria for testing apparently although my office tried very hard so it could be ruled out. I have someone delivering a laptop today with the clinical software in place so I can do some work but it will be limited I really need two screens and a scanner too. Office work last week for me was relentlessly busy recording new messages and sending out text campaigns on top of all the usual.
Sorry to hear you have a cracked rib Joan it must be painful.
I suggested to GMTV this morning that the over 70's should be given an hour first thing in the morning in supermarkets before anyone else they should be given protected time to shop before the vultures swoop in an buy up everything. I have colleagues reporting to me chaos at 9.15 in the morning in our local supermarket and chemist.
Keep safe ladies
Good morning ladies - indeed what worrying times at the moment , it feels like some awful tv show or film . Our Christmas present from ES, DIL and YS was a trip to Rome all flights and accommodation paid for which we were so looking forward to and was due to be in May - obviously cancelled 🙁.
DIL is now working from home - she works as a scientist for a large American pharmaceutical company .
YS has a colleague diagnosed with the virus last week so Imperial college has finished lectures and online teaching only - he will also be self isolated now too!
as he says though - a lot of people are due to take their finals for qualifying as doctors and many have jobs in place all over the world .
Rosie my business is very quiet at the moment - it is always slower in the winter months , but definitely more so 😲. OH also very slow at his work - connected very much to the new car industry which is bad at the moment too - how nice for you all to have met up with MIL and your family- the older people just take things in their stride it seems ! My parents and elderly aunt are the same , although with dads heart problems I do worry about him.
Joan , poor you with a cracked rib , a nasty fall you had . Hope your hospital appointments go well .
Cassie as from today our GP surgery are only taking phone consultations - no face to face appointments , how are you getting on at your surgery ?
Wildpurl , did you finish your decorating ? Hope all is well with you .
Hope you all stay well ladies .
Good Evening ladies!
What a surreal world we are living in at the moment!🙀🙄
DH and I got back to the UK just in the nick of time!
Cyprus is in lockdown form tonight until April 10th at least! DH obviously will not be going back next Saturday.
I spoke to ES in France today and they are in Lockdown from tomorrow!
Joan I am sorry to hear that you cracked a rib and hope you have recovered from the fall now. Maybe YS is right and you should keep a distance from the grandkids you don’t want to put yourself at risk if you can avoid it!
Cassie how are you managing with the current situation?
Lovewine I suppose it’s too premature to say if it will it affect your business?
Wildpurl is it likely to affect your line of work.
Very worrying times for all of us!😬
YS and family came for the weekend to see MIL as they didn’t make it to the Christmas gathering as their dog was ill.
We took them all out to Blist’s Hill Victorian open air museum as we felt this would be safer for a nearly 94 year old! DH and I and previously asked MIL if she was worried about going and she was quite emphatic when she said no! 😮
I asked DH to ask his 2 sisters and brother if they were ok with it before we went -which they were.
She wanted to eat fish and chips out of the paper form the old fashioned chippy there. I told her she would have to use my hand sanitiser before eating them and she said, “I am not eating my chips with that on my hands” and turned away from me and stating eating her chips! 😮🥺 She is more rebellious than a child!😳
All we can do is take each day as it comes! I keep imaging I have a headache especially in the early hours! It’s the first thing I think about when I wake up in the night and the morning! 🥴😷
Stay well Ladies!
Goodness, it appears to be two weeks since I posted, though I have looked at the board from time to time. Life has been a bit pressurised with work, leisure activities and grandchildren. Also struggled a bit with what turned out to be a cracked rib, so I didnt get away with the fall as easily as I thought. YD complained to the council, Cassie. She did it that evening. It probably would have taken me a while. First weekend with nothing planned and apart from work, which I do mainly from home anyway, it looks like the next few weeks are going to be fairly dull. The music course I started a couple of weeks ago is being cancelled because the tutors wife works in A and E and he is worried he might unwittingly spread the virus, and courses I have booked for next term are unlikely to go ahead. Even YD has decided she doesnt want to risk me catching the bug from the grandkids. I oscillate between thinking the risk is low and- usually in the small hours-visualising myself in intensive care! I have a couple of hospital appointments in the next couple of weeks too. I hope you still have no confirmed cases Cassie, you dont have any choice about going into work and are on the frontline. I worry about ED working in a London hospital but at least she’s not in A and E.
Wildpurl, it was good to hear from you. Hope the decorating has gone well and you got it finished before you had to return to work. Glad ES and DIL enjoyed their Dublin trip, Lovewine and it wasnt too much of a disappointment compared to Venice. Lovely photos, your DIL is so beautiful. Glad your face is healing so well. Rosie, you certainly have had an epic trip and avoided the awful weather and floods. People are being so ridiculous about panic buying, the shelves in our local Tesco have been denuded of pasta, toilet rolls and hand sanitiser every time I have been there recently. Tesco’s rationing policy is no more than 5 of anything, and they have a big notice saying this will ensure there is enough for everyone , which is ironic placed over empty shelves. Surely it should be no more than 2, allowing for people buying for others.
lets hope we all keep well and our families and friends.
Good afternoon ladies!
Lovewine what fabulous pictures of ES and DIL, she looks as if she is enjoying the Guinness! 😄 Unfortunately I did not like it and DH ha d to drink mine in addition to his! Good job he wasn’t driving and we were on a Big Bus tour from the Campsite. However I did enjoy the Guinness flavoured crisps and the Caramel Guinness flavoured chocolate! 😋
We are back home in Worcester now after an epic trip! We loved the site in Spain so much that we are going for 2 months next year! Most people go for more than a month! Some are there for 6 months! The cost of living is very much lower than here or in France or even Cyprus! We missed the worst of the dreadful weather that you have all experienced! 🥴 Many fields and even the racecourse here are still under water! 🙀
Wildpurl hopefully the weather is settling into a drier warmer spell to enable you to get cracking on your garden!
I am fed up with all this hype about Coronavirus! The discussion on our local radio this morning was about panic buying especially toilet rolls!🤦🏻♀️ I have just been in a supermarket and there were toilet rolls on the shelf- for a moment I was tempted to get a pack, but told myself not to be so stupid as we have 9 in the apartment!
What lovely photos of your ES and DIL, Lovewine! I have been to the Guiness museum and really enjoyed it, I hope they had a lovely time in Dublin, I enjoyed the pubs with live music!
I have been very busy at work and have taken the last few days off to decorate our hall and landing which was due to be done last year but I injured my shoulder and could not do anything. It is half done at the moment but looking good and I have tomorrow off as well.
The gardening year is just getting going and we bought seed potatoes today. I am looking forward to Easter as I will take another week off then and hope to be in the garden and also get out walking.
you have posted some lovely photos of your travels rosie, it is great to see you enjoying your travels with DH.
good evening ladies, Joan i hope you have recovered from your fall, it shakes you up , lucky you didnt break any bones .
Rosie, i have seen some of your photos , a bit of a change in the weather for you in the last few days😳.
Cassie, good there are not any cases of the virus , i must say i worry about lots of things - but the corona virus is not one of them! YS has just landed in Lisbon for a few days with 2 of his friends . ES and DIL are mid flight back from Dublin, they have had a fabulous few days , yesterday they visited the Guinness factory and also whiskey tasting - apparently no sign of William and Kate!
Wildpurl, hope all is well with you ?
my eye has healed very well, i do get sharp pains occasionally, apparently its the nerves knitting together, i have a small lump of scar tissue but i am not really that bothered , i am just relieved it wasnt cancer!
Desperately waiting for better weather, so fed up with the wet and cold now😒
Good Evening Ladies,
We have not had any confirmed cases of Covid-19 thankfully but we really don't know we have at least 6 self isolating and they did not let us know about the last one I had to call the lab the result did not come through the normal route at all. Try not to frighten yourselves too much there is very little we can do about it, I have been spending my time looking into in the worse case scenario we close due to the predicted 80% being affected how we can still operate, the answer to that is like how long is a piece of string. We can make plans just in case but who knows how it will all pan out, more online and telephone consultations is the route we will take and possibly only allowing people expected into the surgery and along with the appointment reminders a further message to say the clinician will call them within an hour of the appointment time instead of them attending the surgery. We will see hopefully things will not progress to that but we are ready. I was appalled to see a chemist selling antibac hand gel for £19.99 it was £9.59 previously.
Try to complain to the council Joan.
Keep Safe ladies x
Joan I am so sorry that you had a fall and hope that you are feeling less sore! Hopefully the LA will now take notice and get the slab fixed!
Cassie have you had any cases of the c. virus confirmed?
Lovewine have ES and DIL had their Dublin visit yet? I see that William and Kate were at the Guinness Storehouse yesterday! 😀
Wildpurl hope that you are germ free?
We are now in Paris and head for the tunnel tomorrow! The journey back has been stressful due to weather conditions! We stayed on a site in the Pyrenees and experienced an overhead thunder storm with gusts of strong wind and torrential rain!🙀💨⛈
We had difficulty accessing the site as it was a very steep hill and we had to stop to let a car down!😳😬 There wasn’t really anywhere to pass! He flashed us to go through but we were stuck!!! DH has to reverse all the way down!😩 We drove around a bit as we really thought we had the wrong site! There was only a sign that said camping, no site name. The sat nav had led us there. We tried again and it took us back so DH said we will try once more to get up the hill! Fortunately we didn’t meet a vehicle coming the other way and made it to the top!
It is pouring with rain in Paris and DH is worried about taking public transport into the centre due to the virus. They are cutting trees down very near to our pitch and it is very noisy! They felled a complete tree on the next pitch while DH was in the shower block, he would have had 40 fits! I held my breath!
Ladies I do hope that spring and drier weather will come soon!🥴
Well thats the mammogram over for another year, Cassie, - or maybe longer if you are also put back onto standard screening like Lovewine. I hope you have had no repetition of the thoughtless patient with possible Covid 19, how fortunate he tested negative. You just wonder where peoples brains are. Im about to watch the BBC programme at 7.30 though I dont suppose there will be much new. What a shame about ES’s Venice trip, Lovewine. I have a couple of friends due to go there next week. So far it hasnt been cancelled, but its all very uncertain.
How are you liking your pillowtop mattress Cassie. We treated ourselves to one a few months back and its lovely. Only problem is it makes other beds seem hard. We went away for this weekend, staying in a Premier Inn, who boast about their beds. Not a patch.
it was a lovely weekend even so. We took GC- & their parents- to Stratford to see Boy in a Dress, which was delightful. I managed to trip over a paving stone and went headlong. Fortunately just outside one of the Shakespeare houses, so the people on the gate got me a chair and their health and safety person bandaged the grazes on my arm. I was a bit shaken, and have some bruising but it could have been worse. Helped I think by it being a bitterly cold day so I was well wrapped up. YD has emailed the LA about it. The paving slab was completely loose so it rocked. And, we were told that exactly the sane thing had happened last year and the people from the house had notified the LA but to no effect.
Must break off now for the programme.
Yep the man was negative but we have another 3 which did the right thing and rang 111 returned from Italian ski trip, finger crossed xx
Dublin is a lovely city as you say not quite the Venice trip but hopefully they will be able to do this in the future! 😏
Hi ladies , Rosie -ES and DILs Venice trip has been cancelled which was not a surprise but really feel for them after losing their beloved dog- they have booked a few days in Dublin instead - sure it’s a lovely place but not quite Venice !
Ladies what a worry this Coronavirus is!🙀
Cassie I hope the case tested at your surgery is negative! 😬
Lovewine sadly I should imagine your ES and DIL will have their Italian holiday cancelled! 😒 We have heard there is a confirmed case in Barcelona! We are getting a bit worried in case they close the boarders if the virus continues to spread! 😳
Ladies hopefully your weather will improve to cheer you all up! 💐💐💐💐 (Some flowers for you all!)
Good evening ladies, once again a very wet and windy day, am so fed up with it now, it makes the dog walking so difficult and not a very enjoyable experience.
Cassie, unbelievable how people can be so stupid and thoughtless, what a pain in the backside for your surgery not to mention the worry of it.
ES and DIL are due to fly to Venice in a week for a holiday booked months ago, it is looking questionable now with the coronavirus in Italy , they are waiting to see what happens in the next few days .
Rosie, i saw Worcester on the local news last week , it was badly hit by the floods as was Hereford and surrounding area, you are certainly in the best place right now!
Joan, have you had your yearly check up yet ?
Cassie, always an anxious wait after the mammogram, hope you dont have to wait too long- i have been put back on the 3 yearly screening programme now, not sure if i like that or not!
Wildpurl i hope all is well with you.
I have been very busy with work today, we had a very nice walk yesterday with ES and DIL around a local reservoir and it didnt rain !
incidentally Rosie, i had pet rats years ago and they made really nice pets , very intelligent, mine used to sit on my shoulder and ride around the house with me ! If you can get over the tail part they are quite nice ! Much nicer than hamsters that always seemed to bite !
Good Morning Ladies
All is well here its amazing how much time had flown by a whole month since I posted, never mind I am still here in the background I guess has time passes we seem to have less to tell each other.
We have had our first suspected Corona virus patient, we have not had the results yet so we don't know one way or the other at present. Stupid man I must say came to the surgery had all the red flags returned for Korea in the last 9 days, temperature and had flu symptoms, we followed all of the public health guidance, confined him to a specific room sent our staff in with protective clothing in and asked him to ring 111 for guidance, he went to the local hospital to be swabbed then did not isolate himself as instructed but came back to the surgery managed to stop a GP on her way out and accused us at the surgery of being racist. Well I don't have much hope of the virus being contained if people do not listen to instructions and do as they are told. The surgery was closed until we could have a deep clean then re-opened the next day. It does make me wonder how many times this might happen we are the third surgery in the area and there seems to be no provision for the aftermath clean up, I would of though public health would have a designated team of cleaners, maybe we should send the bill to the patient.
YD is off again this week to Fuerteventura lucky her. We are having two new pillow top mattresses delivered on Saturday from M&S hoping for a better nights sleep.
I was wondering how your eye wound was lovewine hopefully healed up nicely by now.
Your trip sound delightful Rosie but a little exhausting at the same time.
I had my yearly mammogram this Wednesday not as painful as the last one thank goodness the technician told me I have a number of clips inside which might make the mammogram more difficult they always seem to have to repeat them which at the time is unpleasant ant worrying. Its a horrible grey day here today, I hope none of you ladies have been affected by all this rain and flooding.
Have a good weekend x
Good Morning Ladies!
Joan I think it’s easier to do the shopping yourself sometimes! I often send DH off with a list and he comes back with things we didn’t need and then wonder why we are spending so much on shopping! 😳
Lovewine hopefully the weather is drying up for you now? Lovely to have YS for weekend.
Granddaughters that lost their dog have got two rats!🙀 I have seen a video of them they look quite cute from the front- I don’t like the long tails!!! I hope they don’t expect me to hold one!🙀😳😩
Time is passing quickly here and we start our return journey in March 1st!
We had an enjoyable catch up with SIl and her husband. We spent the day in Valencia and then they took us to their Villa up in the hills!
It is situated in a very picturesque setting but is very remote at the end of an unmade track!🙀 It was cold inside as it has been empty since October and very little warm water! At least we had solar panels in Cyprus and could use an emersion heater to heat water in the winter months! It’s a project that has been ongoing for at least 10 years! They really need to be living there to complete it! SIL still works so can only go school holidays.😏
Last night we went to a concert performed by the singing group that you can join here. I take advantage of the Aquagym and Spanish classes!
Wildpurl and Cassie I hope that you are both ok, it’s been a while since you have both posted?🤔
Joan i can relate to that scenario very well ! OH made prawn and chorizo risotto last night and shouts from the kitchen we have no chorizo despite it being on the top shelf right at the front in fridge🤨.
We walked the dogs this morning over fields quite close to our house and the usually calm stream was up to the 8 foot bank - never seen it like that before. Am so fed up with wet weather and waterlogged fields!
Rosie i am loving your photos and so envious of the warm weather and sunshine☀️.
Hope everyone is ok , YS came home last weekend which was nice, he is going to Lisbon for a few days in March and ES and DIL are going to venice and we were having Yogi the dog but sadly not needed now , they are still very sad and we all miss him.
hoping an improvement in the weather soon !
OH going out to get Sunday paper from Tesco. I ask can he pick up some leeks and a head of celery. He seems to be OK with leeks but looks completely blank about celery, as if its some exotic food he has never come across before. Had to describe exactly what it looked like and precisely where to find it. He's just come back, fortunately successful, and he didnt have to ask the manager! I suppose I’m just as ignorant about the internal combustion engine but then the bits havent been regularly in front of me on the dining table for the past 50 years!
Good Morning Ladies,
I do hope you are all well and safe and have escaped any problems from the recent wind and rain?😳😬🤔 I believe it’s set to return again this weekend!🙀 Not good conditions for dog walking Lovewine!😳
Joan all the best for your CT scan you will be relieved once you have had the colonoscopy and you can get on with life for another year!
I am glad that your Goddaughter is being so positive- we know this is half the battle!
Yes indeed our 6 year anniversary is advancing I had my first chemo at the end of March but joined the April thread as most of the March ladies were on their second round by the end of the month! I am so glad I did or I wouldn’t have had you lovely ladies in my life!😘
Spain is going well, we are enjoying the lifestyle! DH’s sister and her husband have a Villa in Valencia and are coming over for half term next week, as she is a headteacher! We are going to take the bus to Valencia, which I believe takes 1hr 20mins, stay the night with them and they will drive us back the following day! They have had their Villa for several years and we have never seen it!
Stay safe ladies, I do hope the next round of weather won’t be as bad!😬
Sorry to hear about your son’s dog, Lovewine, what a shock and only 8. But, on the positive side, it all happened very quickly so there wasnt a slow decline with that awful dilemma about when to call it a day. I wonder whether that was why your parents friend chose not to say anything about her breast cancer if she had been told it was terminal.
Rosie, glad you are managing the walking, even though its paracetamol assisted. The site sounds good, though good you dont have to go out at night, thats what I used to hate when camping. Having a go at Spanish lessons sounds a good idea, especially if you are planning to spend time there regularly.
Making progress on getting my check ups arranged. Had the blood test today, with a very good nurse who managed it first time, almost painlessly, and without leaving a great bruise. CT scan on 15th of this month. No news yet on the colonoscopy.
Goddaughter has been told she has to have radiotherapy as well as a full course of chemo. I didnt think you could have radiotherapy twice. She is being very positive- went today to have her eyebrows tattoed because being without was the thing she hated last time. It was lack of eyelashes with me. Horrible memories for us all. Year 6 anniversary coming up for us all I guess, or possibly passed for those who had surgery first.
Hola ladies from Spain!
Joan I am glad that you God daughter seems to be positive about her treatment and that the prognosis will be good. Very unsettling times! 😬 Hope all goes well with your annual check and that you get the all clear!
Lovewine I am so sorry about ES and DIL’s dog it seems that Joan, you and I all have offspring that have lost a beloved pet recently! 😔😢
What an awful shock about your family friend, poor woman, what a shame she ignored it! Now her poor husband and daughter will never understand why she didn’t try to fight for them!😢
I have kept the pain in my foot hidden and under control with paracetamol when I know we are walking a distance!
We have pitched up at our final destination for a month at Benicassim, Bonterra Park. The site is very busy, we are lucky and have a good sized and fairly private pitch! It’s not too far away from toilet/ shower block which is kept very clean! We do have our own toilet in the Motorhome which we use overnight! We use the showers so we are not using electricity or gas to heat large volumes of water. The electricity is extra and paid for at the end!😳
The weather so far has been sunny dry and warm!👍
There are several nationalities here, mostly British. Some have already been here a few months!!!
There are classes included in the price to take part in. We tried the Spanish, DH says he won’t go again, I am thinking about it as everyone except one man knew more than us as they are regulars! 😳
We tried cocktail making and had some fun!
We will give bingo a whirl today!🤣
Cassie hope all is calm for you and the family following your birthday!
Wildpurl I expect that you are looking forward to getting back in the garden as spring beckons! 😀
Good afternoon ladies, Joan i hope your yearly check up goes ok , always a very anxious time . My kitchen and subsequent furniture are now a minimulist off white . Not always good with 2 dogs but it looks much brighter and fresher now! I am always busy thats true, i do find a lot more time to read than i used to, but if i have a project in mind i do not rest until its finished ( unlike OH!) , fingers crossed for your GDs treatment and limited side effects .
Rosie, i have been following your travels and i am so envious of your time in Spain, especially sitting outside in shirtsleeves in the ☀️ , how lovely 😊, looks very nice where you are staying now, how are you coping with the pain in your leg?
We have had sad news this week, ES and DILs lovely dog passed away on wednesday after being taken to the emergency vet with breathing difficulties which had suddenly come on, in fact tuesday he was here with me all day as usual while they were at work and he was fine, he was found to have lung cancer and a tumour on his heart so he was put to sleep , they are heartbroken, it was his 8 th birthday today and they had bought him treats and toys . We will also miss him as he was my 3rd dog with my own .
Also a very good family friend to my parents rang and told them his wife had passed away a few days ago aged 42 , they had visited mum and dad over Christmas too, she was a lawyer and collapsed at work and was taken to hospital where it was discovered she had advanced breast cancer and had not told anyone even her husband, she had been diagnosed apparently and then ignored it, she died the following day leaving everyone in shock , she also had a 4 year old daughter. Her poor husband is devastated as are all of us.
Thankfully the evenings are lighter now , am so pleased January is over! Cant stand the dreary , dark days.
Cassie, how are you now ? Hope you enjoyed your birthday weekend .
Wildpurl, i also dont blame you for hibernating! Expect though now you will be planning your garden and what you will be growing for vegetables!
Have just been over to ESs and bought a beautiful spring flowering fragrant shrub called a Daphne plant and potted it up in a nice planter so they can put it on their patio where Yogi the dog laid in the sunshine and think of him - they were very touched .
Have a good week ladies , it will be 6 years on tuesday since I discovered my “ lump” can hardly believe it 😏.
Cassie, an extremely belated happy birthday from me. Your daughters certainly did you proud, what lovely flowers, and a lovely surprise, even though you knew they would do something. Hope you enjoyed the show.
Rosie, so sorry you are having pain again. How is it now? Hope it isnt limiting what you can do on your trip. Havent been into Facebook for a few days but I look forward to seeing your photos when I do.
Wildpurl, shame that work is a bit full on at the moment. At least at this time of the year hibernating is a pretty good option.
lovewine, glad your work has eased off a bit, just as well given your additional dog walking duties. But you never stop, do you, you have an easier week so you decide to paint not only the kitchen but your table and chairs. What colour are they now?
My work trip to North Wales was quite exhausting. We had a free weekend so just went into Bristol on Saturday afternoon to a couple of art exhibitions, then Sunday afternoon I chilled out completely on the sofa with a novel. Needless to say I fell asleep. The news about my god daughter is mixed. The surgeon is confident shes got it all out but because the cells were different from last time they are going to do chemo again. GD is OK with that, wants them to do everything they can and fortunately last time she coped very well with no complications so hoping it will be the same this time. I am rather anxiously awaiting my appt for the 12 month check-its exactly a year today since my op.
Good Evening ladies from a rather cold France! We encountered many thick patches of fog yesterday and last night when it was very dense in places when ES drove us back to the Motorhome, as it’s about 25 mins from his house.
Its been lovely to spend time with them, all over too soon! 😔 We had a sunny afternoon eventually once the fog had cleared!
Cassie happy belated 60th birthday ED certainly did you proud! 😃
Wildpurl I don’t blame you hibernating when you get in from work!
Lovewine hope your workload has died down since Christmas? Just re read and it has! 😳
How do you have time for extra dog walking, you must be so fit!!😄
Joan hope your weekend went well and you managed some relaxation time?
Ladies for the next 6 weeks I only have my phone with me so may not respond to all your news, I do check in most days!
We are off down to Lyon tomorrow for 3 nights!
Lovely photos cassie, and what a lot of effort your daughters put in to give you a celebration. A very happy belated birthday from me, too.
Rosie, I hope you are OK and enjoying your trip
I'm fine, very very busy at work and just coming home in the dark to hibernate and rest!
Cassie a very happy belated 60 th birthday 😀🍸🎉how lovely to come home to such a wonderful feast and such hard work to cook and organise too ! Love the flowers and the balloon . Have a lovely weekend .
Rosie, I see you are in France now 😊 have a wonderful trip !
Good Morning Ladies,
I am well no problems here at the moment phew...
Busy at work as usual and on top of that we have lots of targets to meet before April so quite a lot of pressure. The arrangements went as well as they can do on such occasions last week. This week has been a bit of a whirlwind I celebrated my 60th birthday on Weds I had no plans but I know my daughters!
I got home from work as usual to find my living room door closed which made me immediately think Oh no the poor cat has got himself locked in all day, I hope he has not made a mess.
Anyway the long and short of it ED had been making a huge Greek banquet all day long a massive 60 which is still floating around and happy birthday bunting up she must have had a very busy day shopping and preparing I know the lamb shanks take more than 3 hours, picking GS up from school and travelling back and forth. YD arrived home with a huge chocolate and salted caramel birthday cake from hummingbird bakery and a mass of flowers, we are going to see the Tina Turner production tonight so we have not stopped yet! Sorry to hear of health issues Rosie and Joan and hope your surgery is well and truly healed now lovewine. I hope all is well with you wildpurl.
Good evening ladies , Rosie I totally sympathise with your reluctance to visit the doctor before your trip , hopefully it will ease off a bit and DH won’t notice ! Have a great trip and I will look forward to your photos on FB 😊.
Joan have a good trip to North Wales - Shame it’s not for pleasure ! Good you were well enough to attend your theatre trip last weekend .. sorry to hear about your goddaughters recurrence , I remember her being diagnosed the first time and her treatment , I do hope she won’t need any further treatment .
I have been a bit steadier with work this week and have managed to repaint my kitchen and my table and chairs ! I have also branches out with my career 😲, I have taken on a dog walking job once a week for one of my friends while she babysits her granddaughter ( not sure if I have mentioned this already 😃!) must say it’s quite tiring on top of my usual walks !
Cassie and Wildpurl hope you are ok .
Joan it is indeed a very quiet board!🙀
Hope you have a good journey to North Wales, pity it’s a work trip!🥴
DH returned last night with the remnants of a cough! 🤦🏻♀️ He goes to bed so late and wakes up so early I got myself into a much better sleep routine in his absence! 🙄
Unfortunately over the last few days I have had increasing intermittent pain in my left foot that isn’t localised! 😫
I am gutted as I have enjoyed at least 4 months of pain free walking!
It gets worse when I walk on it! I have a ganglion cyst on top of the foot that I showed to the oncologist last year before I was discharged. He said unless it was painful to leave it alone! I don’t know whether that is responsible for the pain. I tried to get a doctors appointment yesterday and was told if it was an emergency to ring at 8.15 this morning! I didn’t because we are starting our 6 week journey tomorrow! I just panicked in case they wanted to send me for tests! So I have purchased extra pain killers for when I have to walk a considerable way! I haven’t mentioned it to DH he has been getting the motorhome ready today so wish me luck in keeping it hidden! 😳 He will be mad if he knows I haven’t had it checked out! 🤫 I can imagine you will think I am mad but if it is the cyst pressing on nerves it will need either aspirating or removing! 🙀 Let’s hope it’s much ado about nothing!
I will only have my phone with me I will check in from time to time and will post travel log on my Facebook.
Lovewine I expect that you will be enjoying some Chinese Celebrations for their New Year?
Nearly February ladies!
IVery quiet board this week. Hope everyone is OK. At last I seem to be at the tail end of the cold, so was able to make both my cultural outings at the weekend, with the assistance of copious amounts of throat lozenges. Off to North Wales tomorrow and Friday, sadly for work but hoping the weather is reasonable so will be able to enjoy the scenery from the train window on the 5 hour journey!
Rosie, hope OH has recovered from his cough so you can get some sleep when he returns. I’m sorry to hear about your friend’s diagnosis. She must be really shocked having had 12 years cancer free, hope the treatment plan is not too agressive. Not sure if Ive mentioned it before but my goddaughter has had a recurrence of the breast csncer she had 3 years ago and has had to have two ops one before and one after Xmas. She will hear tomorrow whether she needs further treatment.
8Good Morning Ladies,
Sounds like July 18th at Oxford it is then and we hope that Wildpurl will be able to join us. I really don’t know eating places in Oxford so am happy for any of you to suggest an alternative venue! As long as we can get our Prosecco! 🥂😄
Joan YS and family are traumatised by the death of their dog YS was finding it difficult to talk to me on Skype! 😢 He said when the Tesco delivery man arrived he rushed to open the door before he rang the bell- as there would be no barking! 😔 It’s the little things like this that are so hard to cope with.
Joan I think you were wise to stay away from GG party as there would have more than likely be more viruses doing the rounds!🤧
DH is still coughing, he has 6 days to get rid of it before he returns! For the first time in years last night I slept from 11.30 till just after 6 am!!! 😀
Lovewine the weather is very mixed although mornings tend to be drier with a little sun so hopefully your dog walks aren’t too horrendous?
Cassie hope all went well on Tuesday?
I went to Rugby yesterday to visit my friend that moved from Bredon. She has just been diagnosed with BC!!! She had ovarian cancer 12 years ago. She is a few years older than me. She is waiting to find out her treatment plan! 😬
I am going to Newcastle tomorrow for the weekend to help DD pack up the garage! I suspect there will be a few tip runs!😳
I am off to town now before the bad weather arrives! There is a light show in Worcester tonight! 😬 Not sure that I will go to have a look if it’s wet and windy!
January is passing ladies and the days are beginning to get longer! I saw signs of spring yesterday some daffs poking up and even crocuses. 🎍😀
Cassie thinking of you today on a really difficult day for you and your family .
Joan a lot of people have the dreaded cough virus I know and it seems to linger for quite some time too , hope you can enjoy the theatre at the weekend !
Really busy work wise again for me so far this week 🙄, weather appalling too 😕!
Oxford is fine with me assuming I am able to join you, although I wouldn’t mind trying a different restaurant for a change! But as I may not make it probably best if you all decide what you prefer.
I also hope that I will be able to join you, TBH I’m not all that bothered about the village rock festival but OH really likes it so I go to support him and it is usually a very pleasant day.
Cassie, hope all goes smoothly tomorrow, will be thinking of you. How are things with ED?
Rosie, 18th pencilled in, Oxford seems to work for us all. Wildpurl, hope you will be able to make it. Glad you enjoyed your break. lovewine, hope the massaging is helping, although I guess it will be some time before you see the full effects. What an awful thing to happen with your friends dog. Good all well in the end, even though expensive. Rosie, sad about your sons dog, I know how devastated YD and family were when they had to have their dog put to sleep before Xmas.
I am still struggling with the wretched cough though it doesnt seem to be so frequent. Had to dip out of an art day school on Saturday and GDs birthday party on Sunday. Hoping better by the weekend because booked for theatre in Stratford on Saturday and concert in Cardiff on Sunday. Been working horrendously hard though managed to get one report off yesterday so slightly more relaxed today.
Good Morning ladies I have just checked last year’s diary and we met up on July 20th.
Therefore I suggest we pencil in July 18th for this year in the hope that Wildpurl will be able to join us. Maybe you will let us know Wildpurl as soon as you have the date for the village rock festival and whether we need to try an alternative date? Is everybody still happy with Oxford? 🤔
