Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Have a lovely break, it sounds like it's really well deserved lovewine. Just a very quick hello to all ladies, hopefully things might calm down soon and staff start returning it's been so busy I have been in training for 2 days and still trying to cover for 2 people as well as my own work. ED seems slightly better. One of the poles in my wardrobe broke at some point yesterday, that will teach me to buy clothes. What a mess, it never rains but pours.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good morning ladies , Rosie have a good trip back to the U.K later today ! Congratulations on your wedding anniversary too💐

I have had such a hectic week work wise , I even had a request from a client last night if I could collect today and return Saturday morning before she flies to Portugal 😡.. I had told her too I was going on holiday today !

i have one delivery to do and my aunts grocery order to take to get her and that’s it I can concentrate on my own packing , ES is finishing work early and taking us to Market Harborough train station at 4 o’clock and we get the train to Luton airport where we stay tonight in hotel .

Had a lovely walk with the dog walking group last night , I was given gifts and cards too as it’s my birthday on Saturday , also saw mum and dad yesterday and my sister who bought me a beautiful stone buddha wall ornament for the garden .

We have WiFi at the apartment so I should be able to keep up with the posts !

Have a good weekend everyone ,

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good Morning ladies!

It was very quiet yesterday when I got back from the meeting! I was very hot so I went in the pool and then sat under the pergola for the remainder of the afternoon with my Word Searches.

DH didn’t get back until after 6pm and he was hot and cross! 😳

It’s our 42 wedding anniversary today and I was sure he wouldn’t remember but there was a card waiting this morning by the kettle!🤣 The first port of call in the morning!😂

He said he would have got some flowers but realised it was silly as we are flying back to the UK on Thursday for a week! Lovewine we are doing the opposite to you we arrive in Gatwick very late 1.20am so are having to stay over and continue on the train on Friday! I have an appointment late Friday at the surgery to discuss the findings of my blood pressure results when I had to monitor it for a week last time I was back.😳

Lovewine you will probably sleep much better when you are away from home and work! Don’t forget your sun lotion! Do you and OH drink Sangria? We used to enjoy it on Spanish holidays!🍹💃🏼

Joan you have certainly had a very busy week, it sounds like the pier celebrations were a great success and worth the hard work. You were fortunate with the weather in Hay and it sounds like you will have some very interesting reading material over the next few weeks or months even! 🤔

Cassie hope the week isn’t going too badly for you with being a number of staff down and the upgrade of the software!😬

We have a graduation ceremony of the Yr 13 tonight! 😏

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Joan , I have just checked and itsTim Weaver not Cleaver ! Sorry my mistake , the series of books are the David Raker series . The first one is called Chasing the Dead , I have downloaded the series to read on holiday , I came in to the series at the more recent book called You were gone which I found very good !

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good evening ladies. I’m rather relieved the board has been so quiet because I havent even managed to look at the posts until this evening. We were very busy at Hay and before and after there was the Pier 150 celebrations and then taking our exhibition down and sorting it all out. Grandchildren today, just finished clearing up! Anyway all  went  very  well  with the exhibition-we had about a thousand people in over the week- and three thousand on the pier just on Bank Holiday Monday!  Fortunately its still standing. Hay was good too with only one day of non stop rain. Very blowy though. Heard some interesting stuff and gave our brains a rest with some comedy in the evenings. Bought quite a few books! All but one non fiction though, because I prefer reading fiction on my kindle. Feel a bit of a heretic at Hay though.

Thinking of books, Lovewine, I couldn’t find the crime writer you mentioned. Is it just Tim Cleaver? If so, could you give me the title of one of his books and I’ll try searching on that. I could do with a new author, especially if there is a series. What an awful and frightening experience your friend and his wife had. Being in such pain is more than enough to cope with let alone being told there was no ambulance for 4 hours. I hope you manage to get some sleep before you go on holiday, you’ve had a stressful time recently, especially with the worry over YS. It sounds like the weekend at home has helped him, even though it has been draining for you.

Cassie, sorry to hear ED has had a bad time and you have had to step in. Hope she is feeling somewhat better now and that her worries about boyfriend after his brothers birthday proved unfounded. What a lovely idea to put together a collection of photos for your EBs birthday. And especially poignant in light of all the anxiety about his cancer and the treatment issues. A celebration to look forward to and perhaps help a bit to take your mind  off the frustrations of work.

Rosie, it is certainly very unusual for you not to post for a week. But looking at the account of your activities I’m not surprised. I should think you need a holiday now! Pity you had to start the next day with an early appointment.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good morning ladies and a big welcome back Rosie 😊! What a lovely week you have had - expect you are feeling a bit flat now 😕.

Cassie, I hope EDs BFs evening out passed without incident and she’s feeling a bit calmer , like Rosie says it’s a lot for you to deal with as well as everything else , the 70th party for your brother though will be a nice event and a good celebration with your family !

We are going back to the same apartment as last year which was so beautiful and very quiet , it’s owned by one of my clients , last year she let me rent it for a very reasonable price, sadly this year it was more but still at a discounted price 😊, our flights with easy jet were very reasonable too, we fly from Luton very early on Friday so staying at airport hotel the night before .

Cassie, Binibeca is very close to our area we stay - we are at Calas fonts .

I am busy at work at the moment, but trying to fit most of it in today and tomorrow and deliver back Wednesday , I feel like my head is in a whirl at the moment and I keep waking up in the middle of the night trying to remember everything to do 🙀!! My dog walking friend who also has insomnia suggested I think of men’s/ladies names starting at A and work through 😬- I think by now I know every obscure name !!

Joan I hope you came home with some good books ! expect you have a busy week to come 😏.

Wildpurl hope all is well and you managed to have some good weather , yesterday it rained for a lot of the day so that stopped some of our outdoor jobs .

Have a good start to the week everyone .

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

I am back ladies! I have never spent a week away from the board!

It was a wonderful week but very busy having 3 extra house guests! We also had very high temperatures for 2 of the days reaching 40!🙀😓 The children lived in the pool! We took them to the beach, the zoo where they stoked a baby tiger, the Waterpark where I couldn’t partake in anything, a boat trip to blue lagoon with a swim and snorkel which I did manage and the high ropes park which again I couldn’t do nor had any desire to! The children were very good and ate everything we gave them! They enjoyed their week and did everything they could never do when their dad was with the as he grumbled and hated the heat!

Its very quiet without them they left late last night and didn’t get home until the early hours!😕😴

DH enjoyed himself doing all the exciting activities!😀

Lovewine I am pleased to hear that your YS is doing ok and keeping busy. I think Cassie is quite right the older the kids get the more complex their problems become!😬

Sorry to hear about your friend being so ill last weekend, what a scare for the family. I am glad for the moment he appears to be stable. I can’t believe that the ambulance was going to be 4 hours!🙀

You must be really looking forward to your holiday you will enjoy some very good weather! 😎☀️🍷 Are you staying at the same place as last year?

Cassie another worrying time for you with ED not being in a good place and you having the responsibility of GS on top of work issues. I hope that the birthday of ED’s BF’s brother passed without any issues! 😏

Glad to hear that your dog walking friend is doing well as long as she keeps her pain meds up she should be able to walk a little further and do more each day. I have stopped my pain meds mostly now but can still get bad mornings until I get going!

Wildpurl did the pond liner get put in? If not I am sure you will finish it this summer!

Joan hope that you enjoyed Hay despite the mixed weather?

My day kicks off with a 9.00am meeting!😳

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good evening Ladies,

I have had GS again ED struggling with life in general she seems to have had a bout of sickness so of course her medication has not been working for the last three days, I only had GS for 2 days but I am still worried because it is ED's boyfriends, brothers birthday today and she is worried about what he will get up to and what state he may be in on his return. I offered her to stay overnight but she declined. We have been starting to prepare for my EB birthday next month he will be 70 his ED asked if we have any photos that she could get enlarged of him, so I took a trip down memory lane with YB, he still lives in may parents flat so has all family photos, I managed to find a selection from about 9 months upwards until mid 40's some of the early 20's ones will more than likely make him cringe doing some line dancing in a holiday camp on the Isle of Wight  about 8st dripping wet by the looks of him. It feels quite odd going through the pictures Weddings my brother who passed away had three! All four siblings together I don't honestly remember my oldest brother much as he was already working when I started school.

Its been a scorcher here in  London today and is due to be again tomorrow.

Lovewine I can sympathise with your worries about YS it does not get easier when the children are adults it just seems the problems become more complex. I hope you enjoy your trip to Menorca it where I went on honeymoon 1979 wow, again that set me off thinking we went to Cala Galdana and visited quite a bit of  the island including Binibeca which was very sweet, is it your first visit?

Work has not improved three members of staff off this week and two next plus some of the software we use is going to be upgraded so we will all need training including the GP's starting Tues the PM will be on annual leave for a couple of days which is probably just as well because she does not help or use the workflow system at all.

My dog walking friend seems to be doing well she has been out again today with her brother for a short walk and he apparently told her she was walking much better and she did not feel as though she had done too much on her return home this time. Purdey is still in kennels but I am sure the thought of bringing her back home is pushing my friend to recover more quickly.

I hope all ladies are having a nice relaxing weekend

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good morning ladies , I think we have all had a busy week !

Rosie I hope you have had a lovely time with the family 😊, expect you are feeling very tired now though - it’s exhausting having visitors even your own family ! I was drained when YS returned to London but I think that was more emotionally , he is doing ok he says 😏, but he is in Brighton for the weekend having a suit fitting for his role as an usher for his long term uni friends wedding in July .

Joan I hope you enjoyed Hay , the weather has been very mixed this past week ,we had to cancel our Wednesday dog walk due to heavy rain , it’s going to be about 26 here though today😎! Might get acclimatised for my holiday to Menorca which is next Friday for a week 🤗!

Cassie , how is your work situation ? Hope it’s settled down a bit , also your friend , how is she coping now after her knee surgery ?

Wildpurl , looks like the weather will be nice for your area too , so time in the garden I expect ! OH has a thriving veg patch at the moment all doing well except the garden peas which haven’t come up at all 🤔., either slugs have eaten them or I wondered if pigeons have pecked them up !

Our friend with the cancer had a terrible time last weekend , he woke in terrible pain in his leg and rang 111, a blood clot behind his knee was suspected and of course life threatening and he was told an ambulance was being despatched( this was 5.00 a.m) but it would be 4 hours ! His wife said forget it and we got him in the car , he couldn’t bend his leg at all and she drove him to the hospital herself - he was rushed in immediately for an ultra sound scan and was told another hour and the clot would have moved up to his lungs and that would have been fatal - he’s on blood thinning injections but it’s taking a long time to disperse and the pain is awful - this is a side effect of his chemo tablets , doesn’t bear thinking about if he has to come off them as they do seem to be keeping the tumours at bay at the moment - such worrying , stressful times for them , but him and his wife are cheerful and just get on with things as usual , the children keep them busy too !

Have a good weekend everyone !

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good Morning ladies!

Lovewine it must be such a worry for you knowing YS is feeling depressed due to lack of partner!

Our ES was the one who went through a variety of unsuitable GF’s and found his now lovely wife after his sister and brother were both settled! He went through 3 French girls and bought them all back to England to meet us! One of them ended up getting sectioned and threatened to kill herself if he left her!🙀Another one left her boots and books on the stairs as a daily routine!😬 I can’t really remember the third. But after each of these romances he was depressed. When he left uni he was very fond of a Jewish girl and she sent him a Dear John email and I had to pick up the pieces! DH had no patience with his heartache! 😢 He had the ability to bury himself in work whilst I was fretting! So I really do understand how sad you feel for him. Hopefully like my niece persistence with dating sites will pay off!

DD and the GC arrive tonight at 9.30! We have a fridge and freezer full and DH told me I had purchased some very unhealthy products! For example biscuits, crisps, ice creams, and chocolate cake!😳 To balance it we did get a variety of fruit!😂 Not to mention the gin and wine!😉

Hope Yogi is behaving?🐶

DH and I walked to a small restaurant not far from where we live last night and a ginger kitten, who is very friendly, that lives with the bin colony, tired to follow us. DH shooed it away as we didn’t want it getting to the main road where drivers can speed! It wouldn’t stand a chance!

Eventually it went back and we proceeded! We had a very nice Singapore Chicken with egg fried rice! I had a white wine and DH had a beer. Guess who was waiting for us and ran out from behind the bin area? Yes the ginger kitten! It followed us back and was desperate to come in the front door!

DH gave it some left over pork and shut the door! He had already fed a young grey cat that came to the kitchen window! I am worried that GD especially may encourage these two little tinkers as she loves cats!😬

Ladies whatever you are doing over the bank holiday I hope you all manage some relaxation!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good morning ladies , I agree it’s very frustrating losing a long post , I had the same thing recently and then ran out of time so couldn’t write another !

Joan , certainly you are not a neglectful grandparent ! You have had a stressful few months , enjoy Hay , I am reading a very good series of crime books by Tim Cleaver and I would definitely recommend .

Rosie it certainly sounds like you are well prepared for your visitors ! When are they arriving ? Be lovely to have them with you for a week , especially in the lovely weather , ours isn’t looking that great for next week🙄

Wildpurl, sorting out insurance is a tedious job isn’t it 😬, hope you got it done , glad you are making progress with your pond !

Cassie, hope you manage a few days of relaxation over bank holiday !

ES and DIL are dropping Yogi 🐶 off shortly before driving up to Edinburgh , they return Monday evening.

YS continue to be very depressed about his lack of partner and I am quite worried about him 😕, he was thinking of coming back home again over bank holiday but as yet he’s not decided !

enjoy the weekend ladies !

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good Morning ladies!

Joan I had an issue posting my last post and ending up clicking the quote button which then incorporated Cassie’s last post which I then had to delete from mine!😳 Sometimes strange things go on!

Joan you are far from neglectful grandparents and after the year you have had with your health you need to take time for yourself! Have a wonderful time at Hay! Don’t forget to pack your waterproofs though!😏

Wildpurl I do hope that you manage to get your 3 days in the garden and you will finally get the pond liner installed!

Regarding car insurance if you search compare the market it will not only find you the cheapest rate but will entitle you to 2 for1 cinema tickets on either Tues or Weds and also some meal deals! Simples!🤣🙊

Glad to hear that your shoulder is almost back to normal do you know how you caused the injury!🤔

Well I ventured into the pool the day before yesterday for the first time it’s about 26 which is a tad cool!🥶 it’s ok once you are in!

Off to do a big shop today ready for DD and GC tomorrow! 😁 DH will come with me!

Lovewine hopefully you will have a restful weekend even with your extra lodger!🐶🐶🐶

Cassie hope all is quiet on the western front with you!

Enjoy your extra day ladies on Monday, no bank holiday here thank goodness- there is another in June though! 😏

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Morning ladies, it is a rather nice day here and the weekend is looking good. I’ve been researching car insurance as I need to renew shortly, I have stopped as I need to check some info on OH as a named driver so I will go into the garden and put out the washing and start some weeding. OH is finishing pointing the brick edging around the greenhouse, which is looking very nice and we now have paved slabs for two water butts, one on each side.

When he has done done that he plans to install the electrics for the pond and then...wait for it...wait for it....to finish digging out the pond and putting the pond liner in!!!!!!

Anyway, as you can tell, we are mainly gardening for the next three days and hope to go for a walk on Monday.

My shoulder is greatly improved, I am more or less back to normal as far as everyday living is concerned and am now back to Pilates although not swimming yet. The shoulder blade area is not completely healed yet though, I think I must have really torn something as it is quite stiff in the morning and a bit achey for certain movements. I’m still doing physio 3 times a day and using heat patches sometimes, but my range of mobility is nearly normal and it is still improving, I think it’s just a question of time. These things can take many months, even a year.

im glad your OH's knee was OK and that he will be able to see a Dr in the UK, rosie. All those pool toys sound lots of fun!

lovewine, sorry to hear of all the extra driving and dog/bonsai sitting you and your OH will have, when you are so busy. I hope you have a nice rest over the long weekend. I do feel for you with your YS and his GF problems, my DS was just the same, fortunately he seems very settled now with his lovely GF, I am sure your son will find the right girl eventually.

cassie, I always found getting my cv up to date helped me to decide what to do and feel more in control. Have you come across a book called What Color is My Parachute? It is a handbook for career change and job seeking, with lots of interesting thought exercises and resources to help you identify all your skills, not just the ones you use now, and what you enjoy in work and to match them to possible jobs and careers.

joan I think you deserve a relaxing weekend. Maybe you could try some vegan cookbooks, lots of vegan recipes are delicious, and then you would be experimenting with new ideas rather than cutting out things IYSWIM. Pity about the wine though. Mead? Cider? Gin!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Aargh, I did a longish post yesterday but it seems to have disappeared. And I cant now remember what I said.

Lovewine, sorry to hear YL has been disappointed again. On line dating is a bit of a lottery. My YD tried it for a bit and went out with one guy for a while. It seemed serious, he even came to stay over Xmas, when they broke up! Not the best of Xmases for anyone. But we were jolly glad, didnt much like him. But youre right, I think we worry more about our grown up children, often theres not much we can do to help but listen. Glad your mum liked her presents, an inspired idea. No, we’re not doing anything with the GC over the Bank Holiday, I’m going to be busy getting the Archive exhibition ready for the 150th anniversary of our pier. Cant help out over the half term next week  either because we’re off to the Hay Festival on Tuesday- very neglectful grandparents!

Rosie, glad that knee surgery is not imminent- it doesnt  sound like your OH would be a very good patient. A successful and economic trip to Jumbo- some compensation for having to pay out for the clinic. At least you didnt have to pay again for the follow up.

Cassie, glad your friend is doing well and that work hasnt been so horrendous this week.

Wildpurl, hope all is well with you.

Hope this post doesnt disappear as well.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good Morning ladies!

Cassie I am pleased to hear that your dog walking friend had a visit from the nurse, yes it will be because she is alone! Another week and she may be able to manage Purdy!🙂

Glad to hear that you had a better day at work and that the weather is sunny!

Lovewine indeed men are shocking patients let’s hope it doesn’t come to that! He is adamant he is not having a knee replacement and to be honest I think it would be a few years down the line as it’s only just started giving him trouble. Anyway the follow up appointment was a waste of time he was in  and out within a minute! Told to come back in 6 months! Which he won’t! He will go to the GP in the UK if there are any further issue!

We did brave it in to the shopping Mall and visited Jumbo’s, as it’s name implies it is enormous!

It has 3 floors and like IKEA once in you can’t get out until you have been round it all!😬

We went to get inflatables for the pool for the GC! We got an inflatable turtle, an inflatable crocodile, 3 water shooters, 2 blow up balls, 2 noodles , 5 plastic glasses, some parcel tape for boxes, gardening gloves for me (to pull the weeds) and some sponges for the kitchen- all for €36! 😀

I am so sorry to hear that YS is again having GF issues, I can understand exactly how you feel for him! 😢 and the worry as he returns to London! My niece has used online dating for a number of years and had some disappointments and unsuitable matches!🙀 She has been with her latest several months now and it seems quite serious! He is an anaesthetist!🙀 He has to go to Australia for 6 months and she plans to take a holiday to visit him! My sister hopes it works out for her this time!😏

Glad your mum was pleased with her ornamental birds!

Oh dear poor OH having to go to water the bonsai trees! Is it far to ES’ s house from yours?

Joan and Wildpurl hope you are both well?

I am hoping to venture into the pool today it has been warmer this week and is going to hit 30 today!

DH was in Nicosia yesterday and his car temperature gauge showed 41!😓 It always stifling there in the summer as it’s inland - no sea breezes! 😕

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good morning ladies , Rosie I Hope DH gets on ok at the follow up appointment today , you certainly don’t want a knee operation 🙀 , men are such terrible patients sometimes 😬!!! Annoying though you were treated rudely at the walk in clinic .

Cassie I think a CV already in place is a good idea too , just in case you really can’t put up with the present situation at work / it does seem you do far more than you should be doing !

Good to hear your friend is doing well after her surgery and she is also getting some care , I bet she really misses Purdey though .

Joan , have you anything planned with the GC over the bank holiday ? .

I have had a very busy few days , YS is still here until this afternoon , it’s been lovely to have him home but very draining as once again he’s having GF trouble 😕- online dating is a relentless round of disappointments , he finally met a girl and had 3 dates which seemed to go well and then he’s heard nothing from her which I think is so unkind - its knocked his confidence again and he’s very down . He returns to London this afternoon , I have somehow got to find the time to drive to Rugby train station in between a very long working day 🙄.

mum had a nice birthday - YS helped me choose at the garden centre a pair of metal ornamental birds for her garden which she loved. 😊

Wildpurl , I hope your shoulder continues to improve , are you planning any trips or busy in your garden this weekend ?

i think I will be grateful of just a rest !

although ES and DIL are going up to Edinburgh for the weekend for a big Chinese family wedding so we have their dog and OH has to drive over to their house daily to water his Bonsai trees ! Sometimes I think our offspring were so much easier when they were children /babies as I think I worry more now about them .

Looks like another sunny day here again so our dog walking group will be on for this evening - I will be looking forward to the chilled glass of wine at the end of it !!!

Have a good day ladies .

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good Evening Ladies,

No more knees Rosie, please lets hope they are wrong about the x-ray. My dog walking friend is doing well though so far so good, only on paracetamol and ibuprofen, she had a visit from a nurse today and a call from them this afternoon, wow not sure what's going on I can hardly believe it, maybe because they knew she would be on her own. She managed to get down the stairs to answer the door to them! She has an appointment on 28th to check the wound and presumably clean and take out anything stitches or clips you really can't see much through the clear dressing, looks good though not much bruising but a bit swollen.

Today has been easier but busy without the PM.

Have a good evening ladies its lovely and sunny here

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good morning ladies from rather a warm Cyprus!😅😎

Cassie I think it’s a very good idea to update your CV and then if you see a post you fancy you will be ready to apply!

I was offered sedation and the spinal block but there is no way I was going to lie there for 2 hours and listen to bones being chipped away!🙀 so I had a general but they insisted on the spinal block also as they said it would help with the pain after the surgery!

Joan my DH and offspring are far more adventurous than I am! 🤣

The plastic bag idea for the stockings came from a You Tube video.

Poor you with your extended asthma consultation and suggesting cutting out more pleasures of the dietary kind!😳

Could you try lactose free cheese? I guess you could try reducing one of her suggestions at a time and see if it makes a difference?

I had an early start today I went to the International Day parade and assembly at school which started at 8.05am! I decided to walk as it’s about 1.5 Kms and I wasn’t keen on getting caught up in parking issues! It was fine on the way but by 10.00 when I was on my way back it was 26 degrees!

We now have 29 nationalities! The English pupils and Russians make up most of the population! 🙀

DH’ s knee was quite swollen on Saturday so I said he had better go to the walk in on Coral Bay! Reluctantly he agreed. On arrival we were rod the doctor wouldn’t be there until 11 even though it was advertised from 9.00 on a Saturday!😬

The receptionist was quite rude which he didn’t appreciate. So we got in the car and drove off to one of the private hospitals in Paphos. €120 later he had been given an X-ray to check the swelling that was believed to be caused by trauma from his running days! The specialist than said he would probably need a knee replacement in the future! 🙀😬😳😫 Oh Noooooooo please he would never cope! He might be able to do a sky dive etc but he doesn’t do pain!!!!! We are going to take the X-ray back to the UK because it looks like a normal knee to us certainly not like my xrays!😕

He is still convinced the swelling was caused by a bite. He has been taking anti inflammatories. He has to go back this afternoon, included in the original price thank goodness!😳

Lovewine hoped that you enjoyed the time with your son and that you managed to source a suitable for gift for your mum today! Happy Birthday to your Mum! 💐

Wildpurl hopefully your shoulder has fully recovered now.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Goodness, Rosie, what an adventurous husband you have. I cant think of much worse than a sky dive. It should certainly be a memorable birthday!

Cassie, it sounds a good idea to update your CV. Even if things calm down at work and you decide not to look elsewhere it might help just to know you have that avenue prepared. I’m amazed your friend was able to walk home from hospital. Hope things are going well for her. Rosie, your suggestion of using a plastic bag to put the stockings on sounds a very good idea- have you mentioned it to the hospital- I wish someone had suggested that for my husband after his two hip ops, I really struggled with them.

Lovewine, you asked about the prosecco vouchers. My recollection is that the first year I got a voucher when I booked, because it was the first time. The following year they sent me a birthday voucher, which had to be used by a certain time. Fortunately my birthday is in July. I doubt they will repeat that this year- they sent me a ‘half birthday’ voucher in February, which I couldnt use. Hope you managed to think of something suitable for your mum.

Had an unexpectedly lengthy session this morning with a new asthma nurse at our health centre-75=minutes! Apart from suggesting some new medication she also suggested cutting out dairy, especially cheese, not drinking white wine, and going easy on sweet stuff- doesnt leave me much pleasure in the food line, since already cut out red and processed meat!

Rosie the helicopter ride or sky dive sound fantastic I have had a helicopter ride which I would recommend and I would be up for a sky dive but I think my daughters might have something to say about that!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Hello Ladies,

I shall be visiting my friend later I have just text to ask if she would like me to get some ready meals for her and anything else she might need also to go and make some lunch for her, she seems OK so far. Apparently my dog walking friend was not under general for the operation she had sedation and a spinal block, she said the noises of banging and chipping away of the bone we presume were rather grim! She did manage to walk home from the hospital, its about a 6 minute walk usually her brother brought her and her belongings home, I am not sure how long it took. She said she is feeling a bit sorry for herself without her lovely dog Purdey but has managed to get some good sleep in the quite of her flat after being in the hospital.

I have typed up a CV in case I really cannot stand to be at work after all these years maybe it's time for a change.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good Morning Ladies,

Cassie I do hope that things have calmed down for you at work. I expect that your friend has been discharged now they usually keep you in 3 days and ensure you can manage stairs before releasing you!

She will have been on very strong pain meds in the hospital and I was also given a spinal block!🙀

The next few weeks will be challenging managing to look after herself and sleeping! She will come out with surgical stockings which are a nightmare to manage and I discovered by putting a small plastic sandwich type plastic bag on my foot first and pulling the stocking over the foot then pull the bag out from the hole underneath made the job much more manageable! I can’t emphasise the 2 hourly icing enough during the day for 20 mins this not only helps with the swelling and bruising, which is extensive, but gives some relief from the discomfort.

Lovewine enjoy the few days with YS. Did you manage find a suitable gift for your mum’s birthday? You usually come up with some very thoughtful gifts!

DH is 65 in July! I was going to get him a helicopter ride when we go to Wales thought the view of the Menai Bridge and castles would be good for photography! It came up  in conversation that he would love to do a sky dive!🙀 I consulted with the children and they thought this was something he would enjoy the most. They are going to make a small contribution each as it’s rather pricey! 🙀😬

I have managed to book him a flight subject to the doctor signing a medical form and a medical assessment on the day!

He has got a very swollen knee at the moment which we think might be due to bites. He got badly bitten last year and had a swollen ankle! He may well have to see a doctor here if it doesn’t improve or gets worse! It won’t be the doctor here signing his health declaration fortunately!

Not much happening here today apart from shopping and the cup final! 😳

Tomorrow will be more eventful when we meet up with our friends!

It’s a bit cooler here for the next 2 days so enjoying that before the rise again next week!

Hope you all have a restful weekend!

Cassie, just a quick post to say i am sorry you are having such a difficult time at the moment , how frustrating for you working in that kind of environment, you really dont need all that stress and hassle. Glad to hear your friend is doing well though. Take care 💐.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good Morning Ladies,

My dog walking friend has had her knee replacement and seems to be doing well they are talking about discharging her already, she had the op on Wednesday morning, was up and about on her crutches yesterday and will practice stairs today, they said they might discharge her today or Saturday.

I have just about had enough of my job, I had another bust up with the PM yesterday that's 2 in as many weeks, she is not the easiest of people and cannot see anything from anyone else's point of view and worse of all really does not take on board my opinion on anything as she does not do any of the tasks herself she really has no idea.

I am not in a good place at the moment ladies, so wont go on.

Thanks for booking the table Lovewine

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good Morning ladies!

Joan that’s great news about your god daughter, always a lift to hear some good news of survival!

Well done on your purchase of a dress, I am going to have to start wearing my sundresses as the temperatures are creeping to the top 20’s and yesterday it was 30! 🙀

We enjoyed the play on Saturday night and DH managed to stay awake so it must have been entertaining! 🤣

Yesterday we met up with our ex next door neighbours from Plymouth who are staying in Polis for 2 weeks we hadn’t seen them for 18 months so lots to catch up on! We are seeing them again for lunch on Sunday at the Lost Castle, a very quaint restaurant serving only souvla and salad and very very big chips!🙀 It is situated on the edge of the Akamas about a mile up the road from us! It could be Fred Flintstone’s home!🤣 I will post you a picture after the visit and you will see what I mean!😂

Off to the dentist for a filling this morning!😬 DH is taking me as I don’t want to drive into Paphos my right leg is still sore when I change gear!

Lovewine are you dog walking tonight?

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good morning ladies , Rosie I love the puzzle and what a great picture of you both , you certainly have more patience than I do !

Joan you seem to have some enjoyable trips to look forward to - even better you found a nice dress , I love white stuff  clothes and the jewellery too !

we have had lovely weather all week , i was very busy with work on Monday and Tuesday but hopefully not too bad today .

we are walking with our group this evening - doing a canal walk from our village to the next one and the pub there , slightly longer than our usual walks but it looks like it’s going to be a lovely day again ,

i have booked Prezzo for 1 o’clock on Saturday 20th July 😊- I did it online and filled in the details and explained our annual meet up but as yet no offer of Prosecco 🤔, when you booked it Joan and I think Rosie how did you get the voucher ?

YS is coming home for 4 days Friday evening which will be lovely , it’s also my mum’s birthday on the 21st May so he will be able to see her , not sure still what to buy her as she is quite difficult - if I buy clothes I rarely see her in them 😲, she’s got lots of garden ornaments etc, I will have to have a good think !

Wildpurl good news your shoulder is improving , hopefully it will stay that way !

Cassie i hope all is well with you , expect you are very busy at work as usual !

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Rosie, what a lovely memento of your time in Kyrenia. Well done for finishing it though after the break. Hope you enjoyed the theatre.

Wildpurl, good news that your shoulder is improving. Hope you will soon be back to normal and able to resume your usual activities without discomfort.

Lovewine, hope you have had the lovely weather today that  we have had here, after the disappointment of last weekend and been able to snatch some time in your swinging chair. I’ve had a very relaxing afternoon, reading, happily ignoring all the gardening jobs that need doing while OH has been painting our new porch. Its good that your friend is seeing some benefit from his medication but how worrying that he cant continue with it for more than a year.

You may remember  me telling you ladies about my god daughter who had breast cancer a couple of years ago. She is now well and did the Moonwalk in aid of breast cancer research last night with a group of colleagues from her work. 26 miles! She has raised nearly a thousand pounds.

The course was rather better this week although one lady has dropped out. I think I will have to continue now because otherwise I think it might not be viable. Unfortunately there is a gap the week after next because they couldnt book the room and then I cant go the week after because were at the Hay Festival. Went to Stratford yesterday to see a restoration comedy which was very good. Made a rushed visit to White Stuff afterwards and much to my surprise saw a dress I liked. I dont usually wear dresses but I have a few occasions over the summer when I dont think trousers will be appropriate so was delighted not to have to trawl the shops. And its non crease so will be good for our holiday in September when we are largely going to be living out of a suitcase.

Cassie, hope all is well with you.

Have good weeks everyone.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good Morning,

Lovewine I am glad that the weather has improved for your dog walking at last! You are lucky having some company to go with, it can be quite lonely by yourself! I used to go armed with a stick and a phone!😳

I met with the lady that used to post as jilly on the forum yesterday at Paphos harbour. She comes to Cyprus each May. I drove the car to Coral Bay and then took the bus to Paphos. I am driving but only short distances as it’s my clutch knee that was replaced this time!😳

I finished a puzzle that DH gave me 2 years ago for Christmas! It was my third attempt, it is a photograph of us at our favourite restaurant in Kyrenia one anniversary! I placed it on a large sheet of card and put it on the the shelf in the spare wardrobe. Every time I took my coat out I dragged some pieces off the edge!🙀 I got it out briefly last time I was back and put the edge back together and manage to do what I thought was DH’s shirt, but it was upside down and was the sea! The pieces were very similar in colour! Quite a nightmare. Well I stuck at it over the last 2 weeks and completed it. DH glued it and has framed! It certainly got me over what would have been a very difficult couple of weeks home alone and I have completed it just before the weather takes a hike!

We are going to the theatre tonight to see When we were married and tomorrow we have complementary tickets to a dance show which some of our students are featuring in.

Hope all other ladies are well?51D3E6D4-D99E-4037-AA04-957347267E18.jpeg

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Morning ladies, we had a good productive bank holiday as although it was cool it was largely dry and sunny. We also managed a walk on the Monday, which was good. This weekend is not so promising, Sunday might be the best day for the garden. At least it looks as though it is warming up over the next few weeks.

my shoulder continues to improve and I can now work without having to change hands with the mouse, not easy! And drive short distances. I am having physio which definitely helps and I guess it is just a question of time.

i love the Roman baths in Bath, Joan, but it is some years since I last visited

rosie I was sad to read how much you missed your dog, I am sure it is best for her to have a new home but she was such a part of your life in Cyprus it would have been a wrench. I hope you are settling back into your routine there.

lovewine it’s good you have a group of dog walkers for the early morning walk!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good morning ladies - at last a morning that isn’t going to leave me soaked after the early morning walk - still looking very gloomy but not raining 😊. There are 5 of us that meet up at the fields now at 6.50 a.m which is nice .

Rosie , I expect you are back into the routine now in Cyprus , at least the temperature is a bit fresher than earlier in the week .

Joan I hope your group was helpful this week ,  we have recently had a cancer support group started in our village , the lady who organised it also does free weekly yoga sessions every Tuesday morning for patients or family members - I wish there had been something like this when I was having treatment as I felt very isolated . Sadly there are many people in our village with cancer including several much younger ladies with Breast cancer.

I have delivering back to do this morning and then this afternoon I may just do some reading or cake making !

Did any of you watch My dementia choir ? I found it very moving and interesting the way singing and music helped .

Have a good weekend everyone 😊

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good Morning Ladies!

Joan thank goodness you had kept free July 20th!😅

Yes Joan a Coptic storm is a sand storm usually from the Sahara! It has cleared now, yesterday was a muggy day with temperatures reaching 27 and today is a much fresher 21!

Glad to hear that at last your conjunctivitis is at last clearing up you certainly had a prolonged bout!🙀

At least there were some other bowel cancer patients on the course but I can understand your frustration! At least you will know what to expect next time!

Glad that you had an enjoyable day out in Bath I went a couple of years ago on the train with my friend to the Christmas market but didn’t go to the roman baths!

I expect OH quite enjoys volunteering in the Oxfam bookshop!

Lovewine what a disappointment with the bank holiday weather after such a lovely Easter, hopefully the one at the end of May will be better? 🤔

At least you and OH were productive in the garden!

Yes it’s true about the serial killer! 🙀 We have a lot of cheap labour here who are not treated very well! Cyprus is not the safe place it was 12 years ago when we first came out!😒

Lovely to hear that your friend is well enough to be able to enjoy a spa weekend!

The royal prince arrived very secretly! I do have a soft spot for Harry though he was so excited and happy!😄 In fact Diana would have been very proud of her sons and loved the grandchildren!

The next speculation is the name!🤔

Cassie is your friend going to go ahead with the May 15th op?

Wildpurl hope that your shoulder problem

Spoiler

has finally been resolved?

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good evening ladies , what a chilly bank holiday it’s been . We have spent most of it making a vegetable patch and I spent most of Friday burning garden rubbish and clearing an area ready for the plot , OH has sown onions , beetroot , peas, radish and lettuce 😊

Rosie I have been reading about Cyprus having a serial killer , is that accurate ? How awful .

Joan , hopefully your group will be a bit better this week , I have never visited Bath , I think it will be on our list very soon .

Our ill friend came for coffee this afternoon and also asked us to witness his and his wife’s will which we did , he’s doing ok and the chemo tablets are keeping him stable at the moment , but he can only take them for 12 months , anyway him and his wife are going away this weekend without the children to a nice spa and hotel , I am looking after their dog during the daytime until a family member takes over !

Hope you had a nice weekend Wildpurl and Cassie .

looks like we have a new member of the royal family - not much of a royalist myself 🙄!!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Thank for confirming the date of our meet up Rosie-I’m relieved that I had the right one in my diary because I wouldnt have been able to make the 27th. Hope you are managing to keep on top of the ants. Is a Coptic storm one that comes from Africa? Thank you for offering to book the restaurant, Lovewine. My heart goes out to that poor lady halfway through chemo, so young. And difficult for you too with all the memories it brings back.

My conjunctivitis is at last clearing up so hopefully I will be able to stop the drops, which sting like mad,  in a day or so. I was a bit disappointed in the course, which turned out not to be specifically related to bowel cancer, although 3 of 5 of us attending had had this. Anyway will go again this week and see how it pans out.

Hope you have all enjoyed the extended weekend (apart from Rosie, who had her fill of them). I’ve

not done much special. Saturday we were looking after YDs dog, who cant be left for long and now cant really be taken anywhere either other on a quiet walk- he’s nearly blind and  quite deaf, gets quite distressed and barks a lot. The family went up to the Harry Potter Experience near Watford. It was her choice for her 40th birthday! Fortunately hugely enjoyable for all. Today OH has been volunteering at the Oxfam bookshop- they often struggle to get volunteers at holiday times so he usually does Bank hols. I did a bit of work. However we did go out on Saturday, to the Roman Baths in Bath, which was very good. We have been several times before but not for many years and there is now much more on display and the presentation is much more up to date. And no, I’m not getting commission for advertising it!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good Morning ladies!

Lovewine not a nice time for you to go back to the hospital where you had your CT scan but at least you could reassure the poor worried lady that there is life after cancer!

I don’t suppose that you have resumed your Wednesday dog walking sessions yet as the weather doesn’t look too brilliant?🤔

We had just cleared all the patio furniture for the summer and we had a Coptic storm! This resulted in everything being covered in sand including the cars! 😬

We are also having a battle with ants! There were in the cereal packets and even on the cling film in the drawer!😡 We have got some ant traps and the kitchen spay is a very good method of ending their antics! We have to be so careful, just one crumb and it gets surrounded by an army! The work top is dark so very difficult to see the little pests!🙀

Ladies enjoy your extra day on Monday, I am glad we have finished with bank holidays for the time being! I was back here over a week before things got back to normal!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good evening ladies, a very busy week for me , took Dad on Tuesday evening for his scan , he went in early and they were very efficient, i felt a bit unsettled as it was were i had my first CT scan , while i sat waiting for dad there was a lady waiting for her scan , she sat quietly crying and i felt really sorry for her, i chatted to her for a while and she has the same consultant as me and was halfway through chemo with breast cancer, she is 39 . Joan, i hope your conjunctivitis clears up, its very unpleasant, how did your visit to the living well go today, hope you found it useful. Cassie, sorry you are still feeling rubbish, hopefully you are picking up a bit now, bank holiday too, hopefully giving you a bit more time to yourself. Rosie, yes i offered to book the restaurant this year, i will do that shortly, the castle for coffee and the venue are good for me too. I will also get the train which is the easiest option. On the feeling put upon subject, i feel very much that way sometimes, My sister doesnt drive, neither does my Mum, my sister only works half the hours i do, leaving a lot of the running around to me🤨, what particularly annoys me is that my sister and family often have meals out etc for family birthdays and i am not invited, but am soon needed for the less desirable outings like hospital appointments 😡... families eh 😏!!!! Wildpurl, i hope your shoulder is fully recovered now , expect you are well under way with your garden projects and planting, it is forecast to be quite cold over the weekend here . Have a good weekend ladies.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Hi Joan our meet up is July 20th! I think Wildpurl had a function the following Saturday?

I have to know quite a while in advance due to ensuring we are in the UK! We arrive back on July 12th and leave for France after our Oxford meet up on July 20th for 10 days!

Lovewine I think I am right in saying that you said you would book the lunch venue this year. I am more than happy with our previous meet-up coffee at the castle and then on to the restaurant. I think other ladies were too! I will have to ensure I get on the correct time of booked ticket for train this year!😳

Joan I do hope that your conjunctivitis clears up soon!

Hope you find the Living Well course useful.

I expect that you are glad to be back at the pier?😊 A sign that life is returning to more normality and positive days!

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Ladies, can you remind me when we are neeting up. I have 20th July in my diary but i have it in my mind that we talked about the 27th.

Cassie, sorry to hear youre still suffering, hope you start to feel better soon. It cant help having a busy week and as you say not likely to improve with a member of staff short.

Lovewine, I agree with Cassie, it does sound as if you are bring taken a bit for  granted by some family members; you might need to start saying no, perhaps pleading work demands. I know from experience thats much harder to do when you work from home, people assume you can be more flexible than those who go out to work. Hope all went well with your dads scan yesterday.

Rosie, that sounds a pretty extensive bank holiday and frustrating for you. It must have been a real wrench getting back to the house without your dog. How lovely that your daughter and the children are coming to stay soon and it sounds as if the weather is set to be ,lovely and they will be able to enjoy the pool. And you have other visits to look forward to as well.

Not much to report from me except that I have had conjunctivitis for the past 10 days which is very irritating. I’m using drops prescribed by the GP and its not as bad as it was but I had hoped it would clear by now. Tomorrow Im going to the first session of the Living Well course I think I told you about, run by the hospital for patients who have recently been treated for bowel cancer.  Started back at the Pier Archive yesterday - spent most of the time cleaning a model of a paddlesteamer which is going to be exhibited during tbe celebrations for the piers 150th anniversary at the end of May. It had been out in the office on a shelf gathering dust for years. Not exactly taxing work but rewarding to see it come up.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good Morning ladies!

Cassie sorry to hear that you are still suffering with the lurgy, sadly the older we get the longer these ailments persist! 😒

What a nuisance losing a member of staff, we have had the same thing happen! A family decided they were going back suddenly to the UK, which leaves us a hole to fill in nursery! Fortunately school is still on holiday until next week, due to late Easter, so the Principal has a little time to come up with a fix!😳

I have had enough of bank holiday now, most shops don’t get back to business until Thursday!😬 DH and I did find the local supermarket open yesterday but he was closing early. We drove to Paphos as DH wanted some fish, but wouldn’t wait in the queue in our local supermarket where there is one person on the counter and she spends times cleaning and gutting fish for customers!😳

Needless to say they were all shut! Paphos harbour was very busy with tourists and to add to it there was a cruise ship in! It can’t get right in so was anchored further out and tender boats used to get the passengers to and from the shore!

We have had a cheeky cat visit the garden wanting to share our pork sandwich at lunchtime! It’s quite a scraggy, thin young grey cat but it will not be getting its paws inside!

It doesn’t take long for them to realise that the dog has moved out! There is another much scared one making an appearance also! 🙀

Lovewine hope all goes well with your road trip to take your dad for his CT scan!

Joan and Wildpurl hope all is well with you both?

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good Morning Ladies,

Sorry to hear its been a wrench with your dog Rosie, probably for the best though, things will get easier. Lovewine it sounds like you should ask for help with your extended family appointments if its too much it is too much, you must not allow yourself to be taken for granted gently suggest that another member of the family help out or another route needs to be looked at perhaps and occasional cab or on transport, nobody else will consider it.

Joan glad you managed to have a clear out of unwanted bits and Wildpurl hope all is well.

The dreaded lurgy is still bothering me and yeas as suspected its been really busy after the bank holiday and a member of staff has left with no notice on Friday so its not likely to get any easier.

Have a good week x

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good Morning Ladies! Lovewine the first 2 days were awful we are getting more used to the fact that the dog isn’t here! The worst thing we have come back to Greek Orthodox Easter which is a big festival here and a bank until Thursday! 🙀 I think our local supermarket will be open tomorrow?🤔 We are hoping so as we only purchased supplies for a few days!

I haven’t driven my car yet, it was flat but DH has charged it and given it a run. It’s been 10 weeks since I last drove so obviously feeling a little anxious! 😳

I had to smile at the thought of your cantankerous aunt and her hospital appointment and can imagine what an act of patience it must be on your behalf!

I am sorry that your family don’t always think about you having to abandon your job at their beck and call, if I am right I don’t think that your sister drives which must but much more of a pressure on you. It’s unfortunate that the CT scan is so far away!😬 Anyway I hope all goes well for your dad.

What a nuisance to have a puncture when you are so busy.

A lady that I met through the forum, not our thread, comes to Paphos annually so I will be meeting up with her, she arrives May 6th for 10 days, then we have our ex next door neighbours are coming out to Polis for 10 days so will meet up with them a couple of times. May half term DD and the GCD are coming for the week so really looking forward to that! The pool should have heated up by then! It’s only 22 now! 🥶

The weather is now settled and the temperatures increasing to mid 20’s with blue skies. It’s been the worst winter here for 40 years and rivers and waterfalls that have been dry have gushed with water!

Hope all other ladies are ok?🤔

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good afternoon ladies, Rosie, it must have been difficult returning home to your house and the dog not to be there, am not surprised you felt subdued and sad, but you know she has a good home and is well cared for, so take comfort in that. Must feel strange though😞. I had a hectic week , not helped by having to take my elderly, cantankerous aunt for her yearly check up with the consultant at the eye hospital last thursday! She was up to her usual standard too 😬. Have also been nominated to take my dad for a follow up CT scan on tuesday late afternoon at a hospital which is the other side of the county and a good hours drive away, tuesday i have a very heavy workload too. I do feel sometimes because i am self employed and mainly work from home people/ family do not view it as a “ proper job” and think i can drop everything to do things , if i worked in An office or similar situation this wouldn’t happen, as much as i like to help my family i do feel a bit put upon at times !! The weather this weekend couldn’t be more different to the easter weekend, Saturday was so windy and cold we lit the log burner by lunchtime. Today i was going to accomplish lots of things , but after driving back from a dog walk trip this morning i had a puncture and flat tyre, spent a chunk of the day getting that changed , so not feeling very happy now! An added expense and a wasted day . I hope everyone is ok , another week starts again, cant believe its nearly May either.

Re: Anyone due to start chemo April 14??

Good Morning ladies from Cyprus!

Wildpurl glad to hear that your shoulder is improving and you have managed some gardening and crafting activities!

A motorhome is an excellent retirement hobby and we are thoroughly enjoying it! I have done a variety of camping in tents, trailer tents and caravans when the children were younger but motorhoming is far more luxurious! When we meet up in Oxford DH is picking me up enroute to Newhaven so if we find a convenient spot to pick me up you could see it?

Joan I am so glad that you enjoyed some good weather in Anglesey!

I too admire you ruthless sort out and I must do that here over the next few days!

Lovewine I quite understand why you and OH didn’t venture to Norfolk it would have been heaving!🙀 Much more sensible to go to the quieter spot in Northamptonshire. I expect you really noticed the difference at ES and DIL’s home it’s surprising what carpet and paint can do! 😃

I felt quite sick the day before our return even though I was busy!

I was very quiet on the way back from the airport and felt full of sadness, the dog wouldn’t have been picked up until today anyway! DH has done a very good job and evething went with her and he has turned the furniture round in the living area so it is all different. I know it is better for her and we will be spending more time away from Cyprus from September, especially me! I won’t miss the black hairs everywhere but there is a large hole! 😳

Ladies I hope the week resuming work has started well for you all. Cassie hope that you are feeling better and work isn’t too manic!
