Re: Anyone due to start their chemo July 2014

Wendy, I am so so sorry to hear your news. I doubt you will upset anyone on here for any other reason than genuine concern for you. Sorry for my ignorance but what is a PET CT. Have you been advised about what treatment is available going forward or will that come when you get scan more results.

Please please keep us posted when you're ready to. Sending you the biggest virtual hug possible. We're all in your corner.

Re: Anyone due to start their chemo July 2014

Hi July ladies

I do hope everyone is well and enjoying the sunshine.

I havent posted for a while but i have recently had some news that isnt the best.

I recently had a CT scan as i was feeling some discomfort arround my rib area. The CT scan showed some concerns around the 10th rib. My cancer nurse ordered a bone scan at this point. In the meantime i had my regualr check up with my surgeon, he said that the CT scan had definitely showed metastasis in the bone (10th rib and pelvic area). I was on my own at this appointment so was very upset to hear the news.

I had my bone scan last Monday and the results have said the same (concerns around 10th rib and pelvic area). My consultant now wants me to have a PET CT scan at Preston on Thursday.

Im not sure if any of the July ladies have been diagnosed with a secondary cancer, i hope not, and i dont want to upset anyone by posting here.

I hope i have done the right thing.

Re: Anyone due to start their chemo July 2014

Hi Ladies

Sitting here with my feet in a footbath to keep me cool. Hot today isn't it?? ☀️☀️☀️

Gill, congratulations on your retirement, I've had the day off today and done nothing except a bit of holiday washing. Just got back from a week in Malta, very hit there too, but at least there was a pool. I think it's difficult to keep yourself motivated when you don't have to get up and go to work. That's not to say I wouldn't like to retire though!!

Terrible tragedy regarding the tower block fire. What must have gone through their minds as the fire took hold, it doesn't bare thinking about. I really feel for them all.

Whoo-hoo! Congrats on being a retired woman, Gill. Just wait, a few weeks from now you'll wonder when you had the time to go to work. lol

Enjoy the party.

Yes, the tragedies of the last few weeks have been awful. That fire...what a horrendous way to die, and so preventable. I think that's the hardest thing. I'm guessing the death toll will rise a lot more. Those poor, poor, families. Smiley Sad

Re: Anyone due to start their chemo July 2014

Gill - youngest didn't have that 'cat' exercise, but I'm betting things have changed a little over the years. Does Oliver also have problems following instructions? Like, you can only give him one at a time or he gets confused? That was and is the most frustrating part of the whole thing - for him and for us.

Clare - yeah, seeing my sister going through chemo really has brought it all back. I'm so, so glad to be on this side of it, lol

Hard to believe we're 3 years down the road, ladies and we're still rocking.

Maybe I need to support Julie as my memory is in doubt !!!!

Cath, Oliver has those bendy fingers .he sounds so much like your son.Yesterday he was showing me his exercises .he has to crawl around like a cat and pretend to drink milk.,? Thought he had it all wrong but Dan's said he was right ..

Pleased to hear sister doing so well Cath.

Re: Anyone due to start their chemo July 2014

Oh, Julie, that's disappointing, getting that close to jumping and then having it canceled. I'm not surprised you're nervous, but you'll be fine. The one thing everyone says about jumping is that it's a fantastic experience and they would all definitely do it again.

Roll on the 23rd. And well done on the donations. The Alzheimer's Society is one that's very close to my heart.

Clare - sis is doing well on her treatment, thanks for asking. She's on day 14 of her 2nd chemo and so far, no problems.

Gill like Cath I won't skydive. It''s Julie who is doing that jump. I am enjoying running and keeping my feet on the ground lol.
Isn't it coincidental that both you and Cath have family with the same diagnosis? It is good that You will be able to support/advise each other.

Cath how's your sis coping? Hope she is still being strong. Take care

Re: Anyone due to start their chemo July 2014

Hi Cath & all - just to let you know that, although it was a gloriously sunny day on Friday, the wind picked up & our skydive got cancelled 😞  I didn't feel too nervous until we got to the Skydive centre, but after the induction I was getting pretty shaky! Got to wait until 23rd June now for the next attempt so trying not to worry about it too much but I'm sure I will as it gets nearer! And to think it could have been all over and done with now!  Oh well, I keep telling myself I've got through worse things! I just hope I can go through with it on the day as we have already had many donations in for Alzheimer's Society 😕

Hugs to all & hope you've had a nice Bank Holiday weekend

Re: Anyone due to start their chemo July 2014

Gill - The only way you'd get me skydiving is if you tied me up and threw me out of the plane. lol

Oliver sounds very similar to my youngest, Gill. He too had flat feet and a big head. He also had extra bendy fingers - could pull them right back to almost rest on the top of his hand. YUCK. He also had no spatial awareness. Was diagnosed with muscle coordination disorder, which is another name for mild dyspraxia - or links them. I never was quite sure.

It's good that Olliver has parents who are so involved. Doing those exercises and taking him to appointments is so important.

Rain is continuing here. Saturday was torrential, today is just misty and horrible. *sigh*

Hi Cath. I looked after Ailla so wasn't at appt which means not a clear picture of things .Oliver has flat feet, weak thigh muscles and big head for a child of 4 .is what she said. He is generally big for 4 but Dan's is 6'3?

Anyway he has been given some exercises and will see him in a month ? Doesn't seem to fit into the assessment process . .physio didn't know why Oliver had been referred .!!!  Will try and go next time.

Wow we have had a downloading of rain Friday night which watered the garden and filled my water butts.poor campers .It was all day by lunchtime and Sun shining again.

Cath hope you enjoyed the sky dive?

Re: Anyone due to start their chemo July 2014

Hi Gill,

Yeah, my youngest was classed as 'clumsy' too, always tripping over his own feet. He also needed speech therapy. It's such a worrying and frustrating time trying to get a diagnosis. Just keep pushing, without that diagnoses Oliver won't get the help he needs.

Had to laugh at your question re how much space a 4-year-old needs in a bed. The answer, of course, is all of it. lol They do squirm a lot, don't they?

YAY for us all reaching our 3 year anniversary. Hasn't time flown?

Re: Anyone due to start their chemo July 2014

Hi Cath. Thanks for you kind words x I think Oliver may have dyslexia . He is always falling over !! We know he has lax joints . He was a very quiet baby and toddler . Didn't start talking until 3 yrs old . Now chats a lot but really bad pronunciation .

Ask not easy to understand him. Has some ticks on the autistic spectrum as well. .It feels this process icon taking forever.Seeing rheumatoid physio this week ???

Hi Clare .Thanks for reply. You are amazing with your running.Where do you get the energy and motivation

from ? 10k.you can do it..

It's was hard work trying to walk the dogs with Oliver !!!

We shared my bed so Dave slept in spare room. How can  4 yr old need so .such space ? He was awake at 6am but managed to keep him in bed till 7 with a drink of hot chocolate and the TV.just love him to bits .xxx

HOPE all the July ladies are keeping well and happy .as we mark our 3year anniversary date .This to.e next year (good willing) I will start planning our 5yr meet up.

Time for cup of tea

Re: Anyone due to start their chemo July 2014

Hi Gill,

How did the dog and babysitting go over the weekend? I hope Oliver's assessments go well and he gets the help he needs. I remember trying to get help for my youngest when he was in primary school. It was a nightmare. Took us almost 6 years to get him diagnosed with dyspraxia. Sending hugs, I know it's not easy.

Clare - I'm so sorry to hear about your neighbour. What an awful thing to happen. Hugs.

Congrats on your PB, you're doing fantastically well. Good luck with the 10K in July. Sounds like you'll handle it no problem.

I feel rather guilty after the energetic weekends you've both had, but apart from taking my mother shopping on Saturday and walking the dog, I did absolutely nothing all weekend - and enjoyed every minute. lol

Re: Anyone due to start their chemo July 2014

Morning Gill
My what a busy weekend you are having but it must be so lovely to have a grandson. My 2 sons haven't product any grandchildren for me yet!! You must be worried though about all the assessments he has to go through but at least it will be a relief when it is sorted so that he gets the right support to thrive. Fingers crossed.

I was very unsettled this week because my neighbour opposite me died in a fire.

On a positive note I improved on my PB run on Sat. 34:37. I am so happy with my progress. Did I tell that my son signed me up for a 10K run in July. Hope it rains that day. lol

Re: Anyone due to start their chemo July 2014

Hi Clare pleased to hear tattoo went ok and that you are pleased with the result.xxx

A skydive .love the ideal but not sure how I would leave the plane and know I would scream .My husband use to skydive a lot in his younger days ,over300 jumps .He says its a great adrenaline boost.I remember him doing a jump few years ago in Gran Canaria and had really bad shakes till adrenaline levels dropped..May 26 th is his birthday.HOPE you enjoy the experience and raise lots of money .xx

Cath. Pleased to hear sister was ok with first chemo.hope 2nd round the same .That loss of hair feels like everyone knows"i am having chemo" .It is shocking when happens to you though .give her my love as well. Xxx

Weather in Cornwall is like Ireland .one day sunshine next pouring with rain or both on the same day .

It means grass and hedges seem to be growing inches everyday !!!

I have weekend off and hubby working . I have daughters dog staying and tonight grandson Oliver (he is 4) having a sleep over .love him to bits ,sadly has some issues so going through assessments which take months to complete. He starts school in September and will not cope in that environment ,xxx

HOPE everyone is keeping well and enjoys their weekend .

Love and hugs Gill xx

Re: Anyone due to start their chemo July 2014

Hi Clare - so glad the tattoo went well and that you're pleased with it.

And yup, it does seem odd to feel pain in a numb boob. Bloody boobs are always giving us grief. lol

Thanks for the hug for my sister - I'll pass it along. Yeah, losing her hair was tough. We've all been there. No matter how much you prepare for it, it's still a shock when it happens.

She's joking that she wants her hair to grow back curly like mine did. (The curl is gone now) I told her to be careful what she wished for. She could end up looking like Orphan Annie. lol

So glad you're enjoying my book. (Feels really odd to think other people are reading my words) And I'd really appreciate a review if you'd care to give one when you're done - thanks a million.Heart

I was surprised, too, to find there were so many books with the same title. In one case there was another other with the same title AND the same surname. Caused a bit of confusion at the start with Amazon.

Weather is misbehaving here - one minute sunny, the next, torrential rain.

Hugs to all the July ladies

Re: Anyone due to start their chemo July 2014

Hi Cath. Tattoo done. First photo looked really lovely and made boobs complete. Have to wait 6 weeks for final picture and I have made appt for 7 weeks for tattooist to review and touch up if necessary. The procedure was initially painful but got used to the feeling soon enough and it was fine. Visualisation and relaxation worked. lol. Just thought that numb boobs should not feel pain. 😉

So glad that your sis is coping well. Losing her hair must me a moment for grieving a loss. At least looking at yours now must help her a lot.
Tell her hello and big hug for me and I am Thinking about her journey.
BTW started reading your book and so gripping that if I didn't have to move for the dog etc; I would have sat and finished.

Also forgot to tell you that when I searched for the title of your book on Amazon that much to my surprise I found several with the same Title. It''s a good thing you were the only Cathy. 🙂
I shall definitely do a great review.

Re: Anyone due to start their chemo July 2014

Hi, Julie - glad to hear you're feeling a bit better.

Had to laugh at your skydiving story. Husbands really can be oblivious sometimes. I definitely think he got the better end of that deal. lol

Good luck with the jump on the 26th May. Alzheimer's is such a worthy cause. My dad suffered with it for 10 years before he died - horrible, horrible disease.

Enjoy your trip to Prague.

Hiya Clare - hope all went well the tattoo, and it wasn't too painful.

Glad to hear your speed is improving on your 5K. As for achieving your 30 min goal - I think if you set your mind to something, you'll do it.

Good luck with the 10K in July. As you say, having cancer has motivated in ways we couldn't have imagined before. It's nice to think that some good came out of such a terrible time.

My sis has her 2nd round of chemo tomorrow. She's handled the first one well and losing her hair. It's amazing how strong you before when you think you're at your weakest.

Hugs to all the July ladies

Re: Anyone due to start their chemo July 2014

welcome back Flossie and Julie. Hi Gill and Cath.
Julie sorry to hear that you are ill but glad that you are recovering. Brave lady doing a sky dive.... one of my secret wishes. You definitely must let us know what it is like. Alzhemier is a great charity to raise funds for.

Thanks Cath for the best wishes. I will let you know the verdict. Hope it's not too painful. Never thought that I would ever have a tattoo in my lifetime.
Well needs must eh?

My speed on my 5K continues to improve slowly. Don't know if I will ever achieve my 30mins goal though. I have entered a 10k run in July. Madness!! but that's what the shock of getting cancer does. It certainly motivated me.

Regards to the July ladies.

Re: Anyone due to start their chemo July 2014

Hi Cath - just feeling a bit more human these last couple of days thank you.  I went to the doc's on Wednesday & was given some anti-biotics for infection which made me feel very spaced out & even worse! Have now got some different ones which I seem to be ok on so hopefully on the road to recovery. I've noticed that it seems to have hit me harder in terms of tiredness than it used to - have had some times when I'm just so drained that I can't do a thing til I've had a 'super-snooze' to recharge.  Maybe a throwback from chemo? (or perhaps just old age lol).

The skydive story....it was a Christmas pressie from my hubby. I remember saying to him 'I don't really need any more smellies etc so just get me an experience' & dreaming of exotic holidays, pamper days or suchlike.  A couple of weeks later he said 'I've got you an experience' and I said 'It's not a flipping Skydive, is it?' !! I am quite excited but know I will be very nervous on the day & my tummy does somersaults when I watch videos of people jumping out! I decided to try to raise money for charity doing it as I thought it might make me more likely to go through with it so we're doing it for Alzheimer's Society.

It has now been re-scheduled for 26th May and I don't think I can get out of it by throwing a sickie again lol. Will let you all know how it goes.

We are off to Prague tomorrow for a short break (my treat to hubby - who got the better deal??!! lol)

Congrats on another grand-niece to enjoy! xx

Sending hugs to all the other July ladies.

Hi Julie - how are you feeling now? Did you make an appointment with the doctor?

Did you end up canceling your skydive?

Well, niece gave birth at 12 minutes past midnight, so missed out on the 9th anniversary. Typical babies - never do what you want them to do. 🙂 But I do have another gorgeous grand-niece.

Yup, I second Gill, no need to feel guilty about not being online. Real life comes first - I just spent most of mine online. lol

I hope you're feeling better soon, Julie. Here's hoping you won't have to postpone your skydive (and I do want to know the story behind that. lol)

Fingers crossed for your mamo results.

I haven't even got my appointment yet, but then I'm always months after you lot. Today will be exactly 3 years since I was diagnosed. My niece is in labour at the moment, so I'm hoping I'll have something happy to celebrate on this date in the coming years.

Hi Ladies! I feel so guilty - not been on for ages but hope you'll forgive me.  Great to see so many keeping in touch & I'm defo planning on joining you for that meet-up in 2 years 😄

There's too much for me to catch up on at the moment (& I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself with a raging temperature, aches & shivers etc). Very bad timing as I'm booked in to do a Skydive this Friday (don't ask!) but am pretty sure I'll need to postpone it 😞

It's that time of year again for us all - had my mammogram a couple of weeks ago, no results yet but due to see onc mid-June.

Wishing everyone wonderful, all-clear news & I'll really try to drop in & catch up with you all soon.

Hi Flossie,

Congrats on getting the all clear! 3 years! Seems unreal that 3 years have passed already.

Like you, I'm triple negative, so counting down to the 5-year mark.

Tomorrow will be 3 years since I was diagnosed.

Sorry, haven't tried to get critical illness insurance. In fact, it was only when I found out I had breast cancer and went to check my insurance policy that I found out the insurance company had let the policy lapse - never contacted me to renew it. 😞

Maybe one of the other ladies can help you with that.

Re: Anyone due to start their chemo July 2014

Hi lovely July 2014 ladies,

It's fascinating to read all your posts, some sad and most happy and normal, that's what life is like...

My surgeon has brought my mammo forward and after 4 weeks waiting, got the results and all is fine 😊

3 years yippee !!!

The statistics for Triple Negative get better after 5 years, so counting down now.

Has anyone tried to get critical illness insurance after their breast cancer treatment and did you manage to?

I am going to try about December time, my financial adviser says that they normally won't consider it unless you have 3years from remission i.e end of treatment.

Have a great weekend all xxx

Hi, Gill - flying in for a birthday party sounds so decadent. lol I'm glad you had a great time at your cousin's 70th.

Enjoy your caravan trip. Hope the weather stays good for you.

I would love to sign your book, Gill. I really have to brush up on my sig. My son says it's atrocious. lol.

Oooh, I'm really excited to hear your book club is thinking of reading Where There's Smoke - excited and nervous.

Let me know if they do decide to read it, and what they think. (Don't worry, I've a thick skin.) I'll also happily answer any questions they have.

Gorgeous weather here at the moment. Been too busy to have any time to sit out in it, but it's definitely nice to feel warm for a change.

Hope the sun is shining on all the July ladies

Hi, Clare - Good luck for the 14th. Not too long to go now.  *hugs*

Karen - it's cold here, too. How did the football training run go? I hope you took a good book to read to while away the time.

Ah, I can understand them needing to match the colour on your tattoo. Do you know how long it will be between each session?

Here's hoping it's not too long.

Yeah, the fear of the unknown was the biggie with all of us. Once you've had that first chemo it's a lot easier after that - well, mentally anyway. So far sis is doing well.

Hi Cath and Clare,

It's cold and miserable here, not looking forward to taking my son football training this evening. It's an hours drive so unfortunately can't drop off and pick up later.
Apparently the tattoo has to be done over several sessions as they have to match the colour to my real one.
I'm glad your sister has her first chemo under her belt, Cath. The fear of the unknown is the worst part, one down five to go.
Good luck with the writing I'm looking forward to the next one!!
14th May isn't far away, Clare, will be great to get that over and then your done...other than the ongoing hormone treatment. Good luck

Hi Karen, I'm sorry your appointment was so disappointing. We really should know by now that they always are. Guess we're a bunch of optimists, huh? lol

Here's hoping your referral comes through quickly.

ETA: just saw your other post - how come the tattoo is done over several sessions? I would have thought it could be done in one?

Thanks a million for recommending my book to your friend. 🙂 I'm still writing away, working hard on another book.

Clare - lucky you, that your 3D tattoo will be done in 2 hours. Any word of your appointment? (Or have you already told us and I've forgotten?Man Frustrated)

Sis started her chemo on Tuesday. So far so good.

It's a bright, cold day here today. In fact, it's been freezing all week. Hubs and I are off swimming in a bit and the thought of stripping to my swim suit...*Shiver*

Hugs to all the July ladies

Thanks Clare, apparently the tattoo will be done over several sessions, will you have your 3D ones done all in one go?

Re: Anyone due to start their chemo July 2014

Thanks for the good wishes Cath and Clare, after leaving 2 hours before appointment which was then 45 minutes late, I actually saw the Consultant for a whole 3 minutes. I was being very optimistic thinking I might get the tattoo done there and then. I have been referred for further appointment with the nurse who will then make a further appointment for the process to begin......
Clare you must be so proud of your son, he did so well and great that you got to see him twice. Well done on your pb for 5k too, great achievement.
Hope everything is going well for you, Cath. How is the writing going? I have recommended your book to a friend who says it sounds right up her street.
Very cold here today,
Hugs, Karen x
