Hi Ladies - we are back from our Canada trip, it was great, especially Niagara, it was really quiet there so had lots of time and space to take it all in, our hotel room overlooked the falls and it was just amazing x

Cath - huge congratulations!! Am sure you're having a wonderful time getting to know your granddaughter Charlotte, I bet she is gorgeous - enjoy every moment x they grow so quickly x

Flossie - hope you get some positive results from the bone scan. Waiting and worrying is awful but, as Karen & Cath said, am sure they're just being thorough. Sending best wishes and positive thoughts x

Gill - has Claire left for her adventures?As you say, technology is wonderful for keeping in touch these days but I'm sure you'll miss her terribly x I used Skype in Canada and it really was a lifeline to my children and grandchildren, especially as the Cumbrian floods were just as I left for Canada, luckily my family were ok, but there are lots of people I know who have been affected very badly 😞

Slyolddog - your trip to Australia sounds amazing - glad you had a great time. Me and hubby are going to Australia and New Zealand in February, cant wait. Hope your appointment for check-up went well x

Karen - have you found out any more about aspirin yet and whether you're in the trial? Any news on the recon yet? x

Julie - We were in Ontario - Toronto, London and Strathroy, and Niagara of course. Hope you get to visit soon, it is an amazing place x

LOL know what you mean about getting rid of the curl. Mind you, now that mine is almost gone, I admit to missing it.

I refuse to go grey just yet. I'm using the Naturtint from Holland and Barrett and it's brilliant for covering the greys and keeping the hair in good condition.

"Too busy going out of meals and drinking too much"- I like your style. lol If there's one thing we've learned it's that life is meant to be lived. You go, girl.

As for me...like you, life is moving on. Hair is almost back to normal and I'm trying to let it grow. I have absolutely no patience, so it could be cut short again any time soon. lol

Just picked youngest up from college. He's home now for the holidays and it's lovely to have him back in the house. It's been lonely with just hubs and me. Mind you new baby shall make up for that.

All-in-all life is good and like you, I am enjoying every single minute of it.

Hard to believe it's only two weeks till Christmas!

Hi Cath, things are going pretty well thanks.  Although this morning I had a minor 'heart attack' when my oncologist phoned me! She'd said she would phone if there was anything showing on the mri scan I had done just over 2 weeks ago, otherwise I'll see her again in 3 months - anyway, turned out she was just phoning to say she had got the results and there was nothing showing on there but she rang so I wouldn't be worrying over Christmas!  That was really nice of her, once I got over the initial fright lol.  Did a bit of dancing round the living room and the dog joined in 😄

Hair definitely not long enough for a pony tail, but was short before.  I have been getting it cut every few weeks as I couldn't cope with the curl and must say it's almost all gone now (the curl, not the hair that is!) - just a kinky bit at the front.  Is very grey though and I spend a fair proportion of my life wondering whether to dye it again but then wimping out in case it comes out a weird colour! Most people say it suits me this colour but sometimes (usually when I have no make-up on) I feel too young to be this grey at 50.  Mind you, I love the fact that it saves me a fortune in time and money at the hairdressers and it requires much less maintenance these days - oh, decisions, decisions!!

Weight and exercise - oh dear, not so good.  Weight up a bit and exercise down!  But I figure it's the wrong time of year to worry too much about it.  Have been far too busy going out for meals and drinking too much wine lately but I really do need to improve my fitness - seem to get knackered just going upstairs lately. 

Sleep still pretty crap and I need to find somewhere to try to relax before lights out but the house is just too cluttered with Christmas stuff!

Ooh, never seen the Irish spelling of Charlotte before - very exotic!

Flossie - I'm not surprised you're worried, but I'm sure the doc is just erring on the side of caution.

The bone scan will check your whole body - I'm guessing that's why they're doing that rather than a MRI.

I had one years ago. They're not sore, but I know more waiting time is the last thing you need.

As for your minuscule ponytail - sooooo jealous. I'm starting to grow my hair now, but nowhere near ponytail length yet.

Karen - glad to hear you're escaping the worst of the weather. We've lost power a couple of times, but so far, no flooding.

Like many of you I am just trying to get on with life, but as someone said, you never stop worrying. I have taken myself to the BCN who asked for a surgeon appointment to check on my pain in my affected breast. Unfortunately I couldn't see my regular surgeon and the lady I have seen has referred me to have a bone scan #worried...

Has anyone had one yet and why are they giving me this, I was more expecting to be given an MRI scan of the breast ? 

Otherwise, feeling well and active, hair nearly long enough for a minuscule ponytail LOL

Cath - congratulations on the birth of your grandaughter. Grandchildren are the best aren't they? You will no longer be able to pass a rack of baby/children's clothes without buying something. Personally I'm looking forward to the Christmas visit to a toy superstore for some overspending.

I have't been on here for a while as I've been on my postponed trip to Oz, just got back yesterday. I have to say it was really amazing, better than I had anticipated. I even climbed the Sydney harbour bridge, something which I was dreading but determined that I was going to do. Add to that a ride around Ayers Rock on a Harley and various other once in a lifetime activities and all in all it really was the holiday of a lifetime. We had to postpone from last year but I'm glad we did, the people in our group were lovely.

I'm glad to see that apart from odd aches and pains everyone seems to be doing well still. I've got an appointment this week (with the surgeon I think!) just for a check up, but all feels reasonable.

Lovely to catch up with all your posts, now I need to get Christmas on the road!!

It's because I mentioned reading about a daily dose of aspirin can possibly prevent recurrence in some cases. My onc said that this is being researched at the moment and my hospital is part of that trial, they are just after volunteers. I'm happy to give it a go, she did also say if I don't fit the trial criteria there would be no harm in taking a small amount daily anyway. I'm not really sure of the details but will let you know if I find anything out.

Hi Julie - I think we're all getting used to accepting that many things are an 'after-effect of treatment'.

Are you still not sleeping? I find it hard to fall off to sleep, but once I do I'm fine. Do you think your sleeplessness is one of those 'after-effects?'

hbunny - Have you got a date for moving yet? Here's hopping you're settled in by Christmas. Exciting times, Christmas in a new home.

As for giving daughter-in-law a hot curry - we've already done that. Also long walks, raspberry leaf tea...etc. This baby ain't for shifting. lol

Hi Julie, so pleased your scan came back clear what a relief, it certainly makes you realise that these side effects do crop up so far after treatment has finished.  The aches and pains continue and bring the inevitable worry which seems to magnify every twinge.  Still it's good to hear it seems to be a normal process and is encouraging for others to read.

Cath, bet your nails are down to the bone by now, how about a good hot curry? 

Hope everyone is getting ready for a Christmas celebration with a bit more energy and hair than last year.  Al being well I will have moved by then, fingers crossed, but as suggested happy to take it slow.

Hi Cath - thanks for that. Yes, it sure is a worry isn't it? I feel much better knowing nothing showed on the scan and am getting quite used to accepting that many things are 'probably an after-effect of the treatment'.  The further on from treatment I get, the more it seems that things can crop up months, maybe even years, after treatment.  Not that I'm complaining - I know I have got off very lightly compared to what some go through.  Would be nice to get some sleep though...  :D. 

Anyway, hope all was good with your x-ray - no news is indeed good news.

Do let us know when baby finally arrives - he/she sounds a bit like my girls, both of whom were almost two weeks late.  I was also happy to keep them in there and my hubby had even started thinking that I wasn't going to have a baby after all with the last one!

I too was worried about a 'new' pain I was having - in my right hip. Onc didn't want to give me a body scan because of the radiation,  but agreed to my rheumatologist arranging an x-ray. Had it done a couple of weeks ago and so far, no news is good news.

Still no word on new baby. *sigh* Mother-to-be says she's quite happy lounging around, it's hubby that's giving her most grief. He's like a kid at Christmas. I told her just to wait until she had two of 'em. lol

Hi everyone – not been on for ages, sorry, but time for an update I think. 

I’d been pretty worried for some months as I’d developed a new pain in one area of my spine in June – had it on & off since then, but mainly on.  Anyway, finally got to see my onc about a month ago – was due to have a CT scan anyway to check lungs ok after what looked like a lingering infection earlier in the year so she arranged this.  Had the scan a few weeks ago, went back for results last week and am pleased to say there was nothing showing on the scan so she thinks it is more likely to be after-effects of treatment.  Phew – what a relief!  She arranged an MRI of my spine (which I had on Monday) to see if that gives any more info, but has said she will ring me if there’s anything showing on there and if I don’t hear from her in the meantime, to go back in 3 months.  Fortunately, although the pain has been fairly consistent, it is only very mild so I’m thinking maybe some of it is just old age, lol.

Cath – you must be on tenterhooks!! Come on baby, show yourself!  As you say, nature will take it’s course and he or she will be along soon.  So exciting for you and the family – enjoy all the precious moments.  x

Gill – amazing that another year has gone by isn’t it? To me, it sometimes seems so long ago then at other times (usually at hospital appointments!) it just seems like yesterday.  Good that you have no news (no news is good news, as they say) and sounds like you’re keeping busy.  Hope you have a lovely day on 5th with your daughter and son-in-law before they go off on their adventures.  X

Yup, the thread is very quiet. I guess that's a good thing - everybody off, getting on with their lives.

Congrats on almost reaching your one year mark from chemo. Like you, I didn't expect to feel touched quite so much by reaching that milestone. But it does definitely make you think about how things can change so much in only a year.

Last week (18th) was the day my radiation started last year. So glad not to be doing all that travelling this year.

Enjoy your early Christmas with your daughter and son-in-law.

Clare - also wondering how your appointment went.

No sign yet of the new baby. *Sigh* It was due on Tuesday (24th) but I guess it didn't know that. lol Nature will take its course and I shall have to remain patient. *Bites nails.*

Hi Cath, Wendy,Karen  and hbunny. Good to see you still on site. I am well no changes re Left hip pain and dry mouth at nights and up toloo 2 to 3 times a night. all part of life now. I have been catching up with friends lately and doing lunch regularly. I have gained weight since I stopped the herceptin.

Guess what  out of the blue today I got a phone call from plastic surgeon dept and was given an appt for Monday 16th Nov. so  watch this space re my recon. Will keep you posted. 

Good to see that you are all carrying on with life normally. hbunny glad about your house move and good luck in your new home.

I had my self-assessment clinic today in our local hospital. It was really just a chat about what to look for when checking myself and who to contact if I need to talk. Just knowing I can phone the BC nurse any time I need is a great relief. I don't feel like I've just been dumped and left to fend for myself.

When I mentioned the pain I'm having in my right hip the BC nurse told me to ask my rheumy for an x-ray/scan (I'm seeing the rheumatologist on Tues) if they won't do one I've to contact her and they'll schedule one through my oncologist.

Nice to know they're not taking any chances.

Like you, hbunny, I'm not overly concerned. I'd just like to strike if off my list of things to panic about. lol

We moved at the end of June, and it was quite a task, get everyone you know to help out, take your time settling in.... we still have things to unpack!! but taking the relaxed about it approach 🙂

Good morning everyone.  It's gone fairly quiet again, good to see everyone is busy and got exciting things to look forward to, despite the aches and pains.  As for me getting intermittent muscle pain around BC site still waiting for a follow up appt to consider bone scan, but it seems to follow exercise so not really concerned, just peed off as its stopping me getting back to the intense classes I love, muscles just taking 3+ weeks to heal instead of 3 days I guess.  The manky nail seems to be growing out very slowly now, think it's got a couple more months to go, other than that I'm doing good, but would love a seminar opportunity to discuss the little things with others or to pass on a wealth of rather not have gained knowledge.

In the meantime finally sold our house and found a lovely, small but perfectly formed barn conversion to move to, hoping for a much more relaxed lifestyle - could be moved by Christmas,  can you do happy/panic face at the same time?

As for dry mouth, seems to be intermittent, sometimes up 3 times in the night for water and then for the loo lol, but other times not a problem.

Being a Marathon groupie sounds like fun, especially getting to see new places. Your hubby sounds like mine, doesn't like to move too much. At least that's one thing we've learned - not to wait around for them.

Karen - sorry to hear you've still got the dry mouth. Mine still is a bit dry at night-time, but nothing like it used to be.

As for last chemo, mine was yesterday - 28th! What a difference a year makes, huh?

You have any date yet for your recon?

I really feel for you ladies still waiting further surgery. Here's hoping you'll all have your ops soon.

Wendy, so glad to hear hubby is doing better. And congrats to your daughter getting married next year.

I know exactly what you mean about it helping to have something to look forward to. In my case it's my first grandchild - due on the 24th of Nov, so not long now. Whoo-hoo!

I love the idea of your breast cancer seminar - sounds amazing. While most of the time I like to forget I ever had BC, it would be nice sometimes to meet people to chat to about the odd worry or concern.

I've just received an appointment for my self-assessment clinic. I'm not sure if this will be a one-off clinic or something I will attend regularly. Luckily, it will be in our local hospital so I won't have far to travel.

I've also received appointments for physio – to help with the tightness around the wound area - and to get a steroid injection in my shoulder – torn rotator cuff. All three appointments are in the same week. Appointments! They're like flipping buses. lol

Hi July ladies

It seems like a long time since i was on the forum. I have been reading through the threads but sometimes it is impossible to keep up and reply to everyone, so apologies for that.

We have just been so busy trying to get the house sorted, work and holidays.

It is over a year since my last chemo, i had my last on 1st September 2014, finished 6 months herceptin in April 2015.

Unfortunately still have very bad issues with joints but i am not letting it stop me get out and about.

Hubby is back at work and doing well, though still not 100%.

My youngest daughter has recently got engaged to a really nice lad and they plan to marry on 1st October next year so busy looking at all of the lovely wedding dresses and venues. I think having something to look forward to and plan really takes your mind off the illness.

Hubby has just been allocated an allotment nearby too, so something else to keep us busy!! 🙂

Cant believe it is November at the weekend, where has this year gone to?? christmas just aroud the corner again lol.

I attended a breast cancer seminar run by our local hospitals and breast nurses recently, it was a really lovely day, meeting up with ladies at different stages, some clear for years, which was very encouraging. There were some lovely speakers, mindfulness, relaxation, health issues, and our senior clinical nurse went through all the different problems associated with all the different types of BC and treatments. It was a reassuring day all in all. I am happy to say that this is going to be an annual event, sometimes i think this kind of event is the best medicine, because you can talk about little things that you may feel your GP would not have time for, or that you think may be insignificant unless you were in our shoes!!!!

Clare, it made me smile to read your comment about fattening up your abdomen for the recon...if only I had that problem. I have plenty to spare, the PS is going to reduce my good boob at the same time so I'm hoping for a much slimmer figure afterwards.
I was trying to remember the date of my last chemo earlier, I know it was around this time or possibly early November. It's not a date I expected to forget, it's amazing how quickly this year has gone. I'm still suffering from a dry mouth, drinking water seems to make it feel worse for some reason but I've ordered some Biotene toothpaste from Amazon. Worth a try.
Sorry to hear some of you are still suffering from aches and pains hopefully things will improve soon.

Good to see the old faithfuls touching base and enjoying life as best as.  Sorry about aches and pains but try to focus on the positives.

BTW don't get me wrong. It's sooooo nice to have this secret family who really understands esp as time goes on and we are not getting back to our previous normal selves. I really thought by now i would be feeling exactly the same as I was B4 cancer. Is if...  I am still hoping I will and as soon as I have recon and recovered fully I am going to aim at running for fund raising. Don't want to start yet as I am trying to get my abdo fatter to have bigger boobs.

I have reduce my working hours by a day ( working a one day week) and doing more dog walking and socialising with friends, lunch. dinner and scrabble.i have cancelled my keep fit membership as I was too tired after walking Baxter and found I was only wasting my money. My plan is to now be my marathorn son's groupie mother and travel with him. An opportunity to travel as hubby stil not showing any signs of activity in that direction.

Hi July ladies.

Just catching up on posts as have recently returned from South Africa.I went with 2 girlfriends. It was amazing. Had 5 nights in Cape Town then 3  at a game reserve.Saw so many animals,really up close it was spectacular.Like you Cath I met lots of lovely people ,had fun and cancer was not mentioned.

It is a strange time as remembering last year consumed by chemo.Almost feels like a dream ( except for thin hair ,tingling fingers and toes,aching joints) .

Sorry haven't mentioned individuals as would need pen and paper to write points before posting.!!!!!

Hello to all of you lovely ladies

Just thought I'd look to see if anyone posted since my last post and see that the same faithful LOL. It is so nice though to hear from all of you, it feels like a secret family which had been supporting and understanding me so well during those awful times. 

In response to breast pain question, I have so much pain in my surgery breast, but only when touching it. My opposite shoulder though is stiff and painful, no idea why, but cannot be bothered to worry about.

Like one of you said, just live life and not live in expectation of medical events.

Hi Karen - hubby and I had a lovely time away. A change of scene was just what I needed. Plus, it was lovely to be with people who had no idea I had cancer. I really enjoyed just being me, for a change.

Keeping my fingers crossed that you get a date for your recon soon.

Sugar - congrats to your son on his marathon run. You should be very proud of him.

As for living your life as best you can - go for it! Waiting around for appointments and treatment suck up so much time and energy. Get out there and enjoy your life.

Hi Karen The BRA meeting sounds like such a good idea. It's gone quiet on my end. I Have been discharged from oncologist and will be seen next on the 8th Dec. Happy belated 50th birthday hope you have your recon soon. 

hbunny and Cath. so sorry to hear you are both experiencing pain in the op breast and do hope it will resolved soon. cath hope you had fun with your friends.

I've decided to try and just live life as best as I can and stop waiting for events around the cancer. When they happen they happen. It's because my life seems to be revolving around the next stage which makes it hard to plan. I went to York this weekend to support my son on his marathon run. He did well 2hrs 50mins. I am so proud of him.

Hi Cath, hope you and your husband have a lovely time meeting up with your friends next week, and that the weather stays dry for you.
I know what you mean about scrolling back through posts, it takes forever and by the time I read something and then get back to comment, I've forgotten what I read. Doesn't help my memory being so rubbish, I could blame my age, chemo or letrozole but tbh I think it's always been bad!
No date yet for recon, just languishing on the 12 - 18 month waiting list and hoping for a cancellation.

Karen - I'm so glad the BRA meeting went so well. Have you got a date for your reconstruction? (Sorry, I can't remember if you said, or not, and I'm too lazy to scroll back through all the posts. lol)

hbunny - good to hear that exercising and massage  is helping with your pain. Here's hoping it's completely gone by Nov when you're due back.

Hubby and I are off for a few days next week. We're meeting up with a couple we met on our cruise 2 and a half years ago. They're touring Ireland and wanted to meet up.

Should be fun – if not nearly as warm. lol
