Hi Lindabag I can empathise with you preparing for your daughters wedding! I had my chemo in Cyprus and then had to have a Db mx and I flew back to UK 16 days later full of clips and stitches, no hair, no eyebrows and no eye lashes but I was at my son’s wedding and I wouldn’t have had it any other way! The surgeon was not happy and he made me have the op before I left I begged him to delay it untilI came back but he said it needed doing or I would have to have 2 more sessions of chemo I had already had 8 as I had an aggressive cancer!
You shouldn’t be too bad with hair fall out it usually starts the 3rd week and the eyelashes and brows are much later than that.
Good luck at least the wedding is near the beginning of the cycle!
All things are possible if we strive to overcome!
I am now 4 years on!

Hi Fiona
And welcome to the forum and the thread.
Honestly, chemo is not as bad as you think. For me, the surgery was much worse.
Generally, the first week of chemo is the hardest, in terms of fatigue and possible sickness, so prepare yourself for that first week. Stock up the fridge, prepare meals in advance if possible, get all the washing done etc. Basically allow yourself this time just to rest. I'm not saying that you will feel ill , just that you might not feel like doing much!
In terms of medication, the chemo team will give you something for the sickness. If you find they are not effective, tell them as there are others they can try. At home, stock up on ibroprofen, constipation/ diarrhea tablets , and a thermometer.
Have a think about how you're going to deal with hair loss. Sadly, it will happen and it maybe upsetting. Some give the cold cap ago. Some opt for wigs. Personally, I accepted that I was going to lose my hair and decided on scarves.
I did find it upsetting initially, but I then I got used to it. My hair grew back very quickly and after finishing chemo, I was able to remove the scarf 4 months later.
I hope this helps and I'm sure others will be along soon to add advice. Please come and chat whenever you want.
Hugs

Hi NoteRed
Yes the gscf injections can cause bone pain, and I too had it in my lower back. I found ibroprofen was very effective and the pain was short lived.

Hello Bcd
And welcome to the thread.
The reality is that it is not as bad as you imagine. Do you know what you are having?
Just be prepared to take the first week very gently. You may find you get fatigue and you may get some sickness, but they can give you meds for that.
Best of luck for Friday, and please come and chat whenever you want.
Hugs

Hi Sue I am having my first chemo on Friday 6 th April. Absolutely dreading it and the effects
Hi Ladies, like Rosie i am also from April 2014 thread, i would like to wish you all the best with your chemo, the fear of it is worse than the reality in my experience, there is usually a medication the nurses can give you to alleviate any side effects, i found a very good anti nausea drug called Emend helped me , also ask for the mouthwash they can give you on free prescription which helps with sore mouth and ulcers. I had chemo before surgery and it shrank the tumour significantly.
I hope you all find as much support off each other as we all have, the forum is a lovely , supportive place to find help and share worries and tips too!
Hello GlassHalfFull ( great name.......always feel like mine is half empty!! )
Welcome to the thread.
Please come and chat whenever you like. Hopefully you can all support each other. My chemo was in 2016, so happy to help where I can.

No problem Linda. Sounds like you've timed it well.
Happy to help whenever you need xx
Thanks Sue,
First chemo is 3 weeks before wedding so hopefully just before major hair loss and immune system will have improved. Thank you for the information.
Best wishes.
Linda
Hi,
I am due to start chemo (FEC/T) on 20th April and am really nervous as to what lies ahead. It has been more difficult as my daughter is getting married in May so arranging dates has been stressful. Will have a wig on standby in case too much hair falls out. Will try cold cap to minimise this. Out of interest how long after surgery are others starting chemo?
Hope all goes well for fellow newbies to Chemo.

Hi wildshell
Welcome to the forum and the thread.
So sorry to read that its your second time. I suppose in terms of the chemo, you know what to expect. There must be positives and negatives to that.
I'm sure there will be others along soon, so that you can all support each other along the way.
Hope it goes OK on Wednesday, and please come and chat tomorrow whenever you need to.
Best wishes
