Honestly, chemo is not as bad as you think. For me, the surgery was much worse.
Generally, the first week of chemo is the hardest, in terms of fatigue and possible sickness, so prepare yourself for that first week. Stock up the fridge, prepare meals in advance if possible, get all the washing done etc. Basically allow yourself this time just to rest. I'm not saying that you will feel ill , just that you might not feel like doing much!
In terms of medication, the chemo team will give you something for the sickness. If you find they are not effective, tell them as there are others they can try. At home, stock up on ibroprofen, constipation/ diarrhea tablets , and a thermometer.
Have a think about how you're going to deal with hair loss. Sadly, it will happen and it maybe upsetting. Some give the cold cap ago. Some opt for wigs. Personally, I accepted that I was going to lose my hair and decided on scarves.
I did find it upsetting initially, but I then I got used to it. My hair grew back very quickly and after finishing chemo, I was able to remove the scarf 4 months later.
