Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Hi Lovely Gas Baggers

There is a lot going on here.

But I must start with our Marlyn what wonderful news for you I am so pleased for you. It must feel fantastic to know you have done what you needed to do chemo wise. Now you can confidently move on to the next phase of your treatment. Well done.

Susie great news that you are able to go on holiday knowing how well the chemo gas worked for you. I am sure they will look after you really well when you have your surgery. Enjoy France it's such a wonderful country.

Trixi good luck for the heart scan, will be waiting to hear your news.

Rosina a weekend with your mum sounds great.

Edinbird, Seaside Sa and Implausable I hope you are all having a better day today.

Now then Nettienoo, Susie B and Edinbird all this hair or lack of talk. You all know I lost all mine straight after my one and only chemo session. Well I too hated it to begin with could hardly look at myself. I have always had think hair which was a bit of a trademark. Well it's begining to grow back slowly but still mostly skull. I was getting ready this morning to go out. So showered makeup  done , dressed. Coat on my arm shoes in my hand all ready to go downstairs. Looked at my dressing table and there is my 'HAIR' on the head looking at me I take another look in the mirror and realise that I nearly went shopping BALD仁仁仁仁 Just goes to show how quickly you can get used to something.

Singing with the Rock Choir again tomorrow for the Gay Pride festival in Swansea.

Hello Ladies,

I have just caught up on all the posts .

Wow Marlyn- Chemotherapy done.

Enjoy bouncing back

SeasideSar good to hear from you again. Yes, T is tough.

Tough T for tough titties.

Marlyn  and Implausible I am trying to meet your high standards of funny posts 云

Nettinoo I am also at the stage where I will pull off my bandana and show a complete stranger why I am wearing it (did so today at the art talk).

Trixielady , no alcohol for me since November. Dont miss it either but I may raise a glass of retsina to myself if I find myself in a Greek taverna on my birthday.

I will post photos of the country hotel once there ( dont want to jinx it).90087FD4-7368-4F56-A803-1DE2ACEDD0BF.jpegMy cyanotype print from the art talk today

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Yay! Loving the good vibes on here today!!

Marlyn!! That is fantastic news! I want to come over and give you a HUGE hug! So, so happy for you. That's made my day 儭

Sarah, you've summed up the T journey perfectly and like you say, we know what to expect next time so we can be armed and ready.

As for the hockey....well, what a nightmare! Much as I'd love elite hockey to stay in MK, someone is going to lose out here. There is no way we can have 3 teams. The fans are all at each other's throats. I'm keeping out of it and will support whichever team we end up with. Hockey is such a big part of my life. Going without it just to spite the current owners is not an option for me.

Ladies, keep the good news coming. Xxx

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Oh Marlyn I am so happy for you!!!! That's wonderful news!  Did you even know that was a potential outcome of the chat today? Or was it completely unexpected?

You are free!!!! Smiley Happy Smiley Happy Smiley Happy

And of course you have to stick around.  The group is for people who *started* chemo in Feb.  It doesn't say anything about when you stop Smiley Happy   there is no escaping us! Smiley Very Happy

I am literally dancing around the front room on your behalf.  Which is a good sign of my own recovery as 2 days ago I couldn't have done that Smiley Happy

Trixielady best of luck for the heart scans this afternoon, hope all looks good so you can plough on to the next cycle.

Nettie, trust me, you don't want this T stuff.  It's horrid!  Although I do understand your concerns.  I would be the same.  If your onco is happy with you continuing with FEC then I'd say that's more than good enough.  They are the experts after all.

Hope that ear infection clears up soon.

Oh and thanks for the words of reassurance about the hair.  I know I get way too worked up about that.  It is my main hot button Smiley Sad  I think it is just that my crazy coloured hair has been 99 percent of who I am for my whole adult life and I am like a headless chicken without it.  I dont know who I am any more :/  it is hard to explain.  I've hidden behind it since I was 17 so it is like a mask.

All that said I am almost looking forward to the shave!  Full on bald will definitely be better than the weird wispy baby monkey look I'm rocking now Smiley Happy

And no more cold cap! Yay!

Edinbird, loving today's Hygge look Smiley Happy  how much cheese have you got through so far today? Smiley Very Happy

Susie thank you for being brave and posting your hair loss pics.  It is interesting how we all are losing it in different spots.  You still have lots.  I do love your short wigs, they look so natural!  And I imagine they would be a lot easier to wear and cooler than long ones too.  And much less likely to tangle up which is the biggest problem with long synthetic wigs.  You can put them down on the side all fine and the next morning they are in dreadlocks somehow!  Smiley Happy

Are you all packed for your trip yet?  Make sure to take a ton of photos for us so we can all live vicariously through you and pretend we are on holiday Smiley Happy

Seaside!!! It's good to hear from you, I was worried.

Most important things first.   Did you see they are talking about adding a new elite team in MK aswell as the Lightning??  I can't see how you'd be able to support 3 teams in different tiers at once.... what's the scuttlebutt amongst the fans?

And I am sorry you have had such a tough time with T.  Me too Smiley Sad  just starting to come through the other side now.  Well in fact I started to feel better - quite rapidly - yesterday at 2pm or so.  It was like the fog suddenly lifted.  Weird.  So now I know for next cycle, it's:

chemo on Tuesday.

Feel absolutely fine up until Friday so make the most of it.

Then start to feel rough Saturday.

Utterly broken Sunday through Thursday morning.  And then back to life.

It should be (mentally) easier when we know what to expect....

As you had your T 2 days after me, I reckon that means you should be fully yourself by tomorrow afternoon latest.  Fingers crossed!

Oh and yes Daisy I get the same with the lymph node scar/armpit.  It always feels swollen and uncomfortable in the first week of chemo but it seems worse under T.  I do my exercises and it seems to calm it down a bit, but it isn't nice.

Right I had better go and do some work.  I am hoping to have my project finished by 3 ish so I can go out for a nice walk for the first time in a week!!! My Fitbit is sulking!!

Love to all

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Morning gassy lasses,

well, I'm just back from my appointment with oncologist, and guess bloody what? He says I don't need any more chemotherapy!! That the 4 cycles I've already done will stand me in good stead, and that my side effects are in danger of becoming permanent if I carry on.....so here I am ringing my virtual bell!! Hope you can all hear it?

Im in next Thursday for my herceptin ( 6 hours) and will continue with that every 3 weeks for at least 6 months.....and rads will start pretty soon too....so looks like I'm ahead of the game...

you lot wont be getting rid of me though....I'm still fully immersed in all your lives and want it to stay that way....in fact, I think we should all live together in one huge house!

Ps....I was talking to hubby about chemotherapy side effects. He said..." oh, you can add chemo moan to that list" bloody cheek!!

Susie....loving your wig, I wouldn't be without mine....

take care beautiful sassy gassy ladies, I bloody love you all!!!! And I couldn't have managed without you....... xxxxx

Morning Daisy,

You're doing really well by the sounds of it and long may it continue. I know what you mean about pain in the lymph node arm. I've had the same and it feels like it's tripled in size, although it hasn't at all. I'm trying to keep it moving as I'm in fear of the dreaded lymphedema.

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Now to my wigs. The lighter one is my NHS wig. The 3 I was waiting for turned up eventually and I 'm keeping this one. I just needthe wig kady to trim and style it a bit., especially at the front and sides. Tbe other one is the one I bought on line. I now have a choice of looks which is ideal as I go dark in tbe colder months and lighter when it gets warmer. Oops, in this light not much difference. The 1st one is the light one.

Must get on otherwise I'll be late for my appt. Will read posts and catch up later. Love to you all xx

Morning all, glad to hear from you Seaside. Was getting worried about you.  This is now day 4 for me on T and I am still ok  nothing really nasty so far other than that my lymph node arm is and wound is really painful.  Must get the injection out of the fridge now.  Have a good day everyone x

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Morning my beauties,

I'm finally crawling out the other side of the barrying T. Feeling human again

Been reading all your posts but didn't even have the energy to comment. That's how bad I felt. Still, I'm on the up now so the husband can breathe a sigh of relief. He's borne the brunt of my outbursts, tears and extreme lack of energy.

I was very happy to see your news, Susie - That's fantastic! Now the little voyage to look forward to as well. Really pleased for you.

Good luck with the scan, Trixielady. Fingers crossed that your treatment can go ahead next week.

Sarah, your hair photos show a lot of strength as to what you've been going through. When the regrowth starts, it will be strong like you.

Nettie, I totally understand your concerns about staying on FEC for the next lot of treatment but as you say, you've thankfully avoided a stay in casa NHS this time so hopefully it's for the best. You definitely deserve a tipple on your big birthday. 痰賅

I had a little giggle at the gas posts from yesterday. I didn't suffer with FEC but with T it's a different story. We're talking loud! Even the cat jumped out of its skin when I passed one yesterday

Looking forward to seeing today's headband, Edinbird.

Hope all the rest of you ladies are feeling OK today.

Love to all

Morning xx

My plans for this morning didnt quite go to plan... thought Id have a lie in as Im not working today but woke up with a headache and sore chest and shoulders... so had to get up. Not wanting to try for a walk this early but feel a bit better now Im moving about.

Now I can eat cheese again I am at risk of just eating it all day! I think I might crack on with more eBay though. Husband is off so means I get nice food. Cheese and ham risotto tonight, tikka massala tomorrow that well start today. Need to decide which headband to try today Ill post a pic once I decide. Only drawback so far is it seems to make my hair far more greasy than the caps. I guess when its covered up it doesnt matter 仄領儭

So hopefully a slow slow day with nothing much to report

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Susie, I can feel the good vibes pouring from your post. I wish you an amazing holiday. I hope you can switch off completely from all this bc crap and just enjoy every minute.

On the alcohol front, I went from a glass of wine a night to nothing since New Year. Some of it out of fear as to how Ill react with all the drugs in me and also because I just havent felt the urge. Its my 60th on Monday though so I am going to have some and to hell with it. I saw the Onco nurse specialist yesterday and she was encouraging me, saying my first alcoholic drink needs to be champagne! 云.

I still have a bit of an ear infection but bloods are good, Neutrophils 3.7 so as long as the blood test on Tuesday is ok will be having FEC number 4 on Wednesday. I feel a little bit anxious about what the possible repercussions might be by not changing to T for last 3 but I have managed to escape hospital and the dreaded neutropenic sepsis this time so continuing with FEC is probably the right way to go. My oncologist wont let me have the T anyway so I just need to get on with what I can have I suppose.

Implausible, when I got to the patchy, very wispy stage and shaved my head, I found it very hard to look in a mirror without my eyes filling but a few weeks on, I am completely ok with it and have no qualms about whipping my hat off in front of others if Im having a hot turn. My hair was everything to me and I spent a fortune keeping it looking good in the past (and probably will do again in the future). I think you may surprise yourself how quickly you get used to a bald head and you really havent got long to go before it starts to grow again. Xxx

Mornin' gasbagsSmiley Happy

Hope you are all well.

Remember that expensive mattress topper I bought on impulse in the middle of the night when my T-related bone aches kicked in last week?  Well it turned up while I was in hospital and I got the teen twins to unpack it yesterday and install it on my bed for me.  Last night was its first outing and wow it is so comfy!!!!  And I no longer have a little rogue spring digging me in the leg Smiley Very Happy  win!

I have woken up with a slightly achey back still but I am assuming that is down to the chemo still.

Trixielady, no alcohol for me.  Was never a big drinker anyway but just haven't fancied it at all since all this started.  My other half did get me a glass of bucks fizz when we went out for my birthday dinner the other week, which I did drink and it went straight to my head!  Crazy given there was probably only about 2 teaspoons of alcohol in it.  But before then my last drink was before Christmas I think.

Susie, same here re better relationship with my dad than mum.  In fact my mum was objectively not a good parent to me at all.... lots of issues.... to the extent that I had to have some therapy after she died to unravel it all.    It wasn't really her *fault* as such (it's a long story), but I didn't know any of that as a kid when she was being very cruel...

What was that Philip Larkin poem again??? Smiley Wink

Have a lovely time in France Susie B

, do post photos.

I am also pleased that chemotherapy is shrinking gremlins ( in those of you who are having chemotherapy before surgery).

My mum and I fortunately do have a good relationship. Thats not to say that she doesnt drive me nuts either!

Hairwise, everything is staying put so far just a bald patch on my crown.

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Morning everyone

Hope all of you enduring side effects from T are feeling better. Talking to my surgeon yesterday I mentioned I wasn't  looking forward to it as I'd coped so well with FEC and basically she said just because I coped well with FEC doesn't mean I'll necessarily be hit hard with T. Basically we're all in the realm of 'we don't know'. Wouldn't it  be nice if we knew exactly which, if any, side effects we would have. Maybe one day? For me I've got the joy of no chemo today, just PICC care, then no hospital trips until the14th. Wonder if that's why I've slept so well this past week or so? Chris is going to a small music festival this weekend, Teddy Rocks, in Dorset  so hubby and me will have a bit of us time. We're going out for a meal tomorrow evening and general planning a relaxing time together. Should be totally chilled before our trip to Aix...

Rosina, happy to hear you've booked a couple of days away  and that the hotel are providing a fridge for you. I'd be tempted to find out if it would take a bottle of white wine, or two. But then I do enjoy a tipple at the weekend. Lovely that you're treating your mum too. Unfortunately, I haven't got that kind of relationship with my mum. We have very little in common. I always got on better with my dad who sadly passed away many years ago.

Implausible, hope the head shave goes ok this weekend. It really is the pits. I'm still losing hair and yesterday evening I started to get that horrible prickly feeling so I'm not looking forward to my weekly hair wash this morning. I do wonder if it'll ever stop.

Must get up now and wash said hair otherwise I'll be going out looking as though I've just been swimming. Daren't risk a hair dryer just yet.

Have a good day you wonderful ladies xxxxxx.

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Implausible, I was surprised too when she asked  if I wanted her to operate or the other surgeon, a man who is new. The other male surgeon who I met  along with a couple of other members of the team when I transferred across from Taunton has since left. Hope it wasn't something I said. As for having a physical sign of Gremlim shrinking it does make chemo more bearable. I don't know how it's spelt but the lymphodeama predictor thing is called a voodoo,  at least that's what it sounded like. Sorry just seen the predictive text  should be zoozoo. This predictive stuff does make me laugh sometimes.

Edinbird, glad to hear there's been a change in your Gremlim. Could be T is more effective than FEC, which goes back in part to the trial I'm on. May it continue to change and shrink.

I hope those of you suffering from the side effects of T start to see more  improvement soon.

Sandraindurham and Veronica I hope you're both ok.

Take care everyone and have a good evening. xxxx

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Hi Edinbird,

yes , definitely much better today ( a whole week post dose 4).

Meeting a friend for lunch tomorrow, we are going to an art talk led by the woman who did the arty bits at my yoga day - should be good.

Then my mum is coming over on May 14th and we are escaping for 2 nights at a local country house hotel. I like to treat her . Also good deal on booking.com.

I can cancel at the last minute but I am determined to go. I told them about my chemotherapy and they are putting a small fridge in my room for my injection. I plan to walk in the Ashdown Forest whilst I am staying there - Pooh territory.

There you go Marlyn , hope that made you smile

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

That made me laugh! Plenty of gas around here!

I feel much better today and I dared try some cheddar just now and it tastes great! So maybe takes about 10 days before tastebuds are back to normal if anyones are currently screwed? Im pleased anyway.

Day off tomorrow, Ill be having a nice long lie! Every day this week Ive not wanted to get up. And pleased to have a day off. I dont want to use leave for nothing but husband is off tomorrow and Monday so thats ok. I dont get any of the May bank holidays and somehow he gets both and an extra Friday!! No fair! At least that means I can make my weeks shorter in May. Then once it gets to June Ill have more appointments to break things up.

Glad you got what you were after Susie, and youll be able to enjoy your holiday. Hope everyone else feels better or continues to feel ok xx

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Everyone reacts differently Daisydi.  I got off very lightly in the FEC stage, so maybe I am more susceptible than average to T?

I hope it is kinder to you

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Looks like I should prepare myself for tomorrow then day 4.  Must admit I am feeling very weary but I dont feel sick and that is a big bonus for me and because I dont feel sick Im not taking any tablets which means I dont get constipated or have really nasty headaches.  Lets see what tomorrow brings.  Also my mouth and tongue are holding up.  That was so painful last time my tongue looked like it was going to break in two down the middle.  I will keep everything crossed

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Hi you lovely lot, how are you all?

Susie - fantastic news about your gremlin shrinkage!! what a difference!! That is really reassuring not only for yourself, but for all of us to hear, even those who are having the chemo after surgery, as it proves that it really blooming works! Thank goodness for that because it would be a blinking ordeal to go through for nothing.... Edinbird great news that your lump feels like it is shrinking up good too!

and Susie it is great too that they are being so accommodating about your trip to France and about your anxiety re the surgery, etc. Nice when they remember to human Smiley Happy

When you said you are happy with the surgeon, so you are going to stick with them, I suddenly realised that I didn't know we had a choice! Luckily my surgeon is lovely, but she was just who the hospital assigned to me, never occurred to me I could pick a different one.

That lymphodema (sp?) predicting machine sounds interesting..... I might mention that to my doc see if they are getting one. and congrats on nabbing post #4000 Smiley Happy

Marlyn - well done on the walk. Hopefully you feel better for it (even if it wiped you out Smiley Happy ) - I never regret a walk even if I have to force myself. That said, I haven't exceeded 2k steps since last Friday Smiley Sad Smiley Sad Saturday I wasn't feeling well so stayed in my jamas, Sunday through Tuesday I was in PRISON Smiley Happy, and yesterday and today I've still felt pretty rough plus have been working. I did at least get dressed and out of the house today to go and vote. Might try at least a wander round the block before dinner, if it ever stops pouring with rain.

and yes, we are awesome!! Smiley Very Happy

Rosina - gorgeous bluebells, I haven't seen any yet this year Smiley Sad

Sonia- I have also been totally exhausted the past couple of days - weak as a kitten! Usually by this stage in week 2 I am much livelier.

I know I have just got home from hospital, and that ought to factor in. But I am still fairly sure there was nothing wrong with me in the first place other than T side effects knocking me for six (and then antibiotics side effects adding to the mix and making me feel worse). They never found any evidence of any actual infection or problem.... I think that T is just a LOT harder on me than FEC was. (FEC I was ok days 1-3, rubbish days 4-7 ish and then pretty much fine for 2 weeks. T seems to be ok days 1-4, start to feel bad day 5, totally broken days 6-10 and counting.....)

All that said, though, I'm more awake/ok this evening than I was at this point yesterday - in fact I started to pick up a bit today from around 2pm ish - so here's hoping I am starting to come through the T fog. Just need to get rid of the horrid dry mouth now.

take care all

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Sonia28, I hope you're not doing the driving!

Marlyn, yes I feel we really have come along way. At the beginning it all seemed daunting with tests ops, chemo,  radiotherapy, etc or chemo, ops, chemo, radiotherapy, etc, but we can and we are doing it step by barrying step.

Implausible, sorry the cold cap hasn't worked for you but as you say you had to give it a go. I've managed to hang on to some hair, but definitely not enough to go out and about. But then it was always my intention to wear wigs and bandanas until I could colour my hair again. Vain or what?!

About to read more posts. I'll be back. xxxxx

Heart you always make me smile Marilyn, well done on your steps,  Im with you that we have all come so far.

Daisydi, long may it last that you feel well.

Im feeling better in myself today, but totally fatigued when i do anything, I did try Nytol last night, and slept slightly better, but not brilliant. I am determined it will not get the better of me, as I am off to Stoke N Trent tomorrow to watch my youngest Danny compete in the  national schools gymnastics competeition.  May mean I sleep in the car but I will go.

Take care ladies, hope you are all doing well xx

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Back from 2nd visit to hospital, back again tomorrow for PICC care then that's me until the 14th when I have PICC care again. Can't believe how accommodating the hospital can be when it comes to bc care. The only gripe I've had is with the radiology dept that seems to book a number of patients in at the same time so you can be waiting for up to an hour. Not so good when your immune system is low. Anyway I was told I could have pre- assessment next Tues, but Susie with bc said no thanks can I have it after trip away? Lesley, without  bc would have said yes. I've either become more assertive or bolshy since diagnosis. Anyway they slotted me in this afternoon so all I need to be concerned about is surgery appt, which they may not notify me of until the last minute, my request. They aim to do breast/lymph node surgery in the morning and get you home the same day. After ANC I won't have a drain, and they use glue to fix you back together. Onto the better news regarding lymphodeama. Yeovil along with Taunton and one other hospital have just obtained a new machine which predicts lymphodeama before it happens. Basically you get checked every 3 months and it can detect any problems before the lymphodeama developes so an arm compression stocking  can be put on before things get out of hand. Not sure how long the checks go on for.

Thanks for all your good wishes and kind words. Hopefully we'll be doing the same for you Edinbird and Deano when your chemo ends. Now let's have a look at the latest posts. May not get to reply for a while, hubby home soon. xxxx

Really good news Susie.  Onwards and upwards.  Well done Marilyn for your walking.  Im still feeling ok after my first T. Think I had so many side effects with FEC that this seems like a gift.  Hope it stays that way.  Love to all of you beautiful ladies xx
