Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Trixielady, I think the fact I’ve been at home so much since Feb and try to get outside in the garden for fresh air as much as possible has spurred me on to get the back garden looking as good as the front. Need a professional design doing though as absolutely no clue where to start! 😊 How are you doing anyway love? I hope today is a goodish as possible one for everyone and that barrying horse tranquilliser doesn’t cause too much grief today.

I finished my 7 days of WBC injections last night and have a lot of back/bum pain today but I’m really pleased as I take that to mean they are doing their job and it was only 24hrs of grief last cycle. Will just zonk out on codeine for the day. 🤪 x

Imp, let us know how the sister visit goes. Xx

Morning ladies

Rosina the hotel lake looks so inviting, i miss swimming so much, hope you enjoyed the break.

Daisydi how are you doing?

Implausible did you sister visit? Hope she loved your bathroom xx

Seaside sar, hopefully your visit with your sister is enjoyable,

MBJ, so wish i was part of your group but I'm tone deaf hope your doing well on the tablets xx

Marlyn, how's the rads going are your appointments early mornings, im sure i read they don't take long but are they consecutive???

Edinbird how are you feeling now hunny?

Deano are you feeling any better??

Star struck 14 so pleased to see your name pops up again, we're all here for you, hope you enjoyed the time out with your mam yesterday xx

Ocean21, hows your weekly Taxol going?? How many or you having??

Sandra & Veronica hope you eventually find that help and support you both need xx

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Morning everyone

Beautiful photo Rosina. Your mum sounds a bit like mine sometimes, she'll make a comment and you really don't know how to reply. Just nod in agreement or go mmmmmmm and leave it at that is my usual response.

Nettienoo on the plant front you could try  busy lizzies and maybe fushias which will tollerate light shade. Acid loving plants apprieciate used ground coffee grains too☺.

Implausible, Marlyn will probably be able to provide more information, but the Eylure C eyelashes have a sort of mesh to apply to your eyelid and don't need the support of eyelashes. Hope you had a good night despite the wet patch. Hope things go ok with your sister today. Visitors and chemo side effects aren't a great mix😝☹.

Must get up now as I have the joy of PICC care later. I wouldn't normally mind but the line isn't being used at the moment and won't be for a while yet. Still I get to maintain contact with the bc nurses.

Have a good day everyone xxx and for those of you having a bit of a rough patch sending you hugs ❤❤❤❤❤

Those two bits made me laugh out loud!!  I would happily watch this sitcom 😄

Well done Rosina for surviving a potentially fraught trip with grace and cunning 😄

Morning Everyone,

I am awake at my usual time (6.30 am).

Mum and I have managed to keep it together ( she is happily snoring away although she did wake up at 3 am for a hot chocolate 🤪 and said she was worried because she couldn’t hear me breathing??? and it’s better that she disturbed me by making herself a drink rather than grabbing my face in the dark😳)

Ashdown Hotel and Country ParkAshdown Hotel and Country Park

We were extremely lucky with the weather 🤗

The grounds a beautiful here so I did my walking and even saw a fox.

Mum tried out the pool and jacuzzi while I went for my walk.

At dinner everything was fine and when we entered the story collection of her brain, I distracted her by giving her a magazine with Joan Collins on the front while I read the paper.

All in all a pleasant 1 night stay  with no mis-haps. 🤞

Oh and Molton Brown toiletries in our bathroom which I will be taking home for my daughter.

Watched the RHS Chelsea Flower Show on the bedroom TV , Mum’s comment : ‘They yak too much ‘ as for the Yorkshire Lock Garden that won a gold medal , she wasn’t impressed saying :” I know what they are doing , they want the Chinese to visit Yorkshire “. Go figure!

Hope everyone has a good day today.

Hugs

Rosina

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Yikes! Need to get me some ericaceous compost. Will B&Q have that?  I have a fairly newish Acer that is in ordinary compost at the moment. 🙈🙈🙈. Rhododendrons and Hostas are now on list for weekend. Thanks Susie and husband. X

Implausible, I’m currently sleeping in spare room double bed as I’m awake so much in the night and disturbing my husband’s beauty sleep. 🙄. Most nights I swap sides at some point to avoid the damp sweaty bit where I’ve been sleeping and move on to the dry, cool bit. Constantly washing and changing sheets. I’m not normally a sweaty person at all but chemo has turned me into a dripping, sticky mess as soon as it gets dark. It’s all very yucky. At least your damp patch is only water and nothing gross. 😂. Xx

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Ok here goes ....

Race against time to see if I can reply to everyone before I fall asleep 😄  I might wake up in the morning with my face flat on my iPad halfway through 🙂

Trixielady - this group, myself included, talks way too much!  So I'm not surprised you struggle to keep up.  But that doesn't matter in the slightest, we just want to hear how you are once in a while x   Weekly chemo must be such an onslaught as you never get to recover before the next one.  I hope you have more good days than bad and that you were able to enjoy the nice weather today

Marlyn... glad that rads are now well underway and that, even after all the hassle you have had with them already, you are still saying they are a doddle compared to chemo, that's what I want to hear:)  Also glad you had fun at the LGFB session.  Please tell us that there is photo evidence of the slugs!!!  😄  you can't tease us like that!
I always thought that false eyelashes needed other eyelashes to attach onto.  Do the ones you recommended not need that?  I do remember seeing that Victoria Derbyshire woman having fake eyelashes put on for TV after she had lost her lashes from chemo so I guess there must be a way.....  I'm not sure if I could be bothered with the faff of them though.....

Seaside I assumed that was why you were quiet given that you are a couple of days behind me 😞  I know exactly how you are feeling.  Just hang on in there, the mist eventually lifts! X
You falling asleep with the high temp is exactly what I did the other night.  Our onco nurses would be horrified.

And ugh at the work issues 😞  you and Edinbird both are having to deal with that kind of stress at the worst possible time:(

Daisy hope you are enjoying the calm before the naff bit as best you can.  It is hard though when you know you are about to feel pants and you are kind of dreading it hitting.  It is like waiting for a huge storm to hit town.....

Susie, really glad that you have felt better in yourself today.  We can't help the occasional down day, it would be odd if we didn't have them under the circumstances.  The trick is the bouncing back x

And your garden is flipping gorgeous!!!

Sonia can't believe the effort you are having to go through just to get a suitable prescription!  You'll probably find it sorts itself out before they get their act together.  But by then you'll have suffered for days unnecessarily:(

Stuck at 14.....  oh I just want to give you a hug!!!  I can see from later in the thread that you did start to feel a little better, but I can totally sympathise with your initial upset.  It must be so difficult for you, so young and with young kiddies.   Our Edinbird is close to you in age too.  And Sandra's daughter is also only young.  There is something inherently extra unfair about someone getting cancer before the age of 50 or so, somehow.  Feels like it isn't your time yet 😞

Thankfully, as with the great example Rosina shared, we are surrounded by stories of people not only "just" surviving breast cancer, but going on to be even stronger and fitter and all round more amazing than they already were before.
The docs are bloody brilliant at curing this, and they get better at it every day.  I've met women who had BC over 20 years ago and they are still here, in full health, and look amazing.  We have to think positively.

And please feel free to pop in here anytime 🙂  and a huge well done for finishing chemo.  I can't wait to be where you are, with it all behind me!

MBJ  choir photos are fantastic! Love the hat!
And I fully condone emotional blackmail of tardy tradesmen 🙂

Deano your love letter to suppositories made me laugh , thank you 😄

Phew.  Caught up without passing out.

Love to everyone else not mentioned

Wish me luck with my sister tomorrow 🙂

Sarah x

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Hiya you lot

Will hopefully reply to you all properly in a minute before sleep overtakes me, but I just wanted to caution against trying to do too much on the first day you feel better from the T "horse tranquiliser overdose" side effects....

Kidded myself I was all back to normal today and hence have done a ton of housework plus a tip run (remember, my sister is visiting tomorrow!) plus a big shop plus a couple of hours of urgent work-work despite it being my day off because boss was in a panic.

Realised just now that I am beat, so came up to bed with a glass of water to put on my bedside table and I just literally, for no reason, let go of it and have spilt it all over my bed 😞

No reason, just pure exhaustion stopping my fingers from working.

Ugh.

Too tired to change sheets so have mopped it up with a towel and will just sleep on the other side tonight (luckily it is a king and nobody shares it with me!)

So yeah.  Don't overdo things!!!

Signed very tired me

Now to read all today's posts

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

I agree Nettienoo I have serious garden envy too. I am fed up of our building site. Our groundwork contractor finally called in this afternoon and this is why. I sent him a text yesterday saying I want to do (which I do) an afternoon tea in July to raise money for Breast Cancer Care. But obviously I can't plan unless I know my garden will be ready. (Bit  of emotional blackmail) he assured my husband it will be done but surprise he did not want to talk to me.

Hi Nettienoo

I'll ask hubby about pot plants for shade, he's more of an expert than me. Does the area get any sun at all and how much watering are you prepared to do?

Ps I’m having serious garden envy here. As there are people on this forum with obvious talents & know how in the gardening dept can I ask a quick plant related question please.....

Apart from ferns what plants/shrubs/flowers can I grow in containers in an area of courtyard that doesn’t really get any sun? TIA xxx

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Hi Stuck at 14

I really hope you are feeling a bit brighter now. We all understand how impossible it is not to worry about the future even though logically we know worrying changes nothing. Have you thought about some counseling to help you talk through your worries (which are completely understandable). I find it hard to even remember what it was like to wake up as a non BC person. I can only imagine how hard it is for you to go through the upheaval of surgery and treatment whilst caring for your young children. I hope you have a supportive family and network of friends. Although none of us on this thread have met each other we can and do say stuff on here we can't say to anyone else, either because we don't want to or because they would not understand.

Please chat to us as much as you like we share mostly everything we feel physically and emotionally here. X

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Sandra, I'm so sorry you didn't get a better response from Macmillan-there are grants out there I hadn't heard of. Rather than speaking to them on the phone would it be worth seeing if you could speak to Macmillan at your hospital to see if they can help? For example I'm a teacher and they told me of a charity who helps people who work in education. There could be something similar for people who go to church etc.

Also, I was a single parent when my daughter went to uni and she was given a grant from a local charity to help her-perhaps you could speak to someone who deals with the finances at your uni to see if they know of any grants?

I wonder if your local MP would be able to give you some help, perhaps he/she might know of charities/grants x

Hi stuck at 14,

I can only imagine how hard it is going through all this cr*p without having 2 small children, my youngest is 14, and that’s hard enough. I’m glad you get support from the February group, they are a lovely supportive group, not afraid to say the truth when the *hit hits us.

I have spent most of the day sleeping, which is unusual for me, but obviously needed. Take care of yourself xx

Hi Stuck at 14

Oh sweetie, I feel desperately sorry for you. You will get through your low mood, I've just had a similar episode, we've all got so much to cope with and at times it seems overwhelming. You're not long out of your last lot of chemo and having to think about radiotherapy on top of everything else, I think anyone of us in the Feb group would struggle. It's good that you feel able to pop in and talk and you can be sure that we'll all be listening and be here for you. Try and get some rest - things always seem worse when you're tired. Take care. Virtual hugs also coming your way❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤Susie B

Hi everyone, popping over from December thread- although I started in mid Jan with chemo. I'm 10 days ish out of docetaxol and going for my radiotherapy planning day tomorrow. I've not left the sofa this morning and have just climbed into bed to have a massive cry about how lonely i feel and how unfair it is. I'm 35 and at the moment I cant shake the thought that I'm not going to make it to 45 or 50 or 60 and I'm finding it really really hard. I have two small children and all inwant in the world is to be here for them. But I actually came to say thank you all for sharing because it has made me feel a lot less lonely and I might even get up shortly.

Hugs to everyone feeling low, better days are coming 🙂

Sorry, got distracted whilst dusting. Photos not brilliant, look a bit pixilated. Anyway on the 2nd photo are bamboos and grasses leading to the pond. The seating isn't quite summer ready as we don't leave the cushions out unless there's guaranteed dry weather. The snow on the mountain is tumbling over railway sleepers which we put in about 18 months ago.

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Well

i was hoping to be a bit more positive today, but I have just slept all morning so far, I had another conversation where I feel like I’ve lied on the paperwork that came with drugs. Honestly I want to take it, but don’t want any other side affects, I now have to take it into the ward on my next visit, and they are going prescribe me something else.

Ive read it word for word to Gp, nurses and oncologist.

Seaside Sar, sorry your feeling yuck, I can sympathise with you. Hope the temp stays down.

Marilyn, glad radio is going well and your LGFG was worth it xx

Trixielady, I feel for you having weekly treatment, there’s no let up, rest for you.

Sandra, please think about contacting council tax and others, they have to be seen to help you, as long as you are offering an amount they have to accept, as far as I’m aware.

My own studies are on hold,  all my class are coming to the end and are about to graduate, I was so determined to continue and finish to begin with, now I’m not sure I have the fight to finish it now, time will tell, I’m lucky as mine is linked with work and working for the nhs I’ve been lucky so far.

Hope the rest of you ladies are doing well, my head is not working quite as I’d like today.

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Hi everyone

Just a quick pop in to let you know I'm feeling much better this morning. You do wonder sometimes how long these down moments will go on for.

Trixielady I'm with you on the lots of posts, I find it difficult to keep up too and I don't think I can blame it on chemo brain anymore😨. Hope you get plenty of rest. Weekly treatment must get tiring.

Marlyn glad you enjoyed the LGFB session. Be interested to hear more about the eyelashes. They mentioned them at my session, are they the C ones specifically for people without eyelashes? They're new out and the reviews I read, only about 9 or so at the time, were a bit mixed. On the hair front it seems as though you're similar to me. My bald areas don't look quite so pink although that could be wishful thinking, and I've got some very fine white hair growing towards the front at the sides. Still intend to wear wigs and headwear until I can colour it again. Hope the next rads session goes ok.

Edinbird forgot to mention the other day that one of my options when facing redundancy was to transfer to Taunton which would have involved a longer commute for me. Decided against it in the end, work/life balance took presidence.

Will be back later, need to get on with housework. xxxx

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Good morning my beauties,

Thanks for the messages. I'm so sorry I've been absent for a few days but the dreaded T has done its worst on me again and left me feeling like I've been sat on by an elephant. I have literally slept my way through most of the weekend and then yesterday the pain set in. Had a high temp with headache all afternoon and evening leaving hubby stood by my side with the thermometer and my hospital bag. It got to the stage where I said I was too tired to go to the hospital so I fell asleep and woke up to a respectable 36.6 Yay!

As if that's not enough, I've also got major work worries as my school is due to be taken over by an academy chain from September so there will be a TUPE process.

Anyway, it sounds like you lovely ladies are having a time of it as well. Side effects, neutrophils, job worries....I wish I had a magic wand and could make it all disappear. I have just read through all of your posts wanting to have a good old blub. Man, this all sucks!

Sorry I can't be more positive at the moment. I am going to make the most of the sunshine today and hope the side effects ease off. Hoping for a good day for you all as well.

Loads of love

Sar xxx

Morning,

gosh, so much to read up on! Will take a good look later just about to go on my rounds...

rads went ahead...all body parts in correct position, but such a faff! Got it all again at 2, ah well....at least it's not chemo....

LGFG was nice, got a smashing goody bag, haven't had a chance to look properly through it yet....the lady did my eyebrows...but...oh dear! She gave me slugs!!?? I found it a struggle sitting there with the slugs ...kept getting glimpses in the mirror...on an interesting note...to all of us who don't have eyelashes...look up eyelure....from boots or Amazon......got a pair coming today...will let you know..

who was asking about hair?  I'm getting a white fuzzy peach coming through...still a lot of pink scalp showing though....

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Got it.  Thanks for the explanation Sandra.

I knew there had to be some reason why the seemingly obvious solution wasn't so obvious....

Banks (re overdraft...) and councils (re council tax) are both usually open to repayment negotiations/freezes.  I have been in very deep financial difficulties in the past and found them both surprisingly reasonable/helpful when I went to them cap in hand.

So still worth considering the options, I think, given that dropping the student status would open a lot of other doors.

It feels like such a complex problem to unravel and I'm sure right now you simply don't have the energy to do so 😞 😞  which is why it is frustrating that you aren't getting much help from Macmillan or the CAB, people whose entire job it is to negotiate these complicated waters for you....

Wish i could help more!

Edinbird, lay it on thick at the assessment on Friday. Having to attend interviews and making such big decisions during treatment is not on at all. Hopefully the powers that be will see sense. 😘 x

Daisydi, another one down. Doing a happy dance for you. (Well,  I’m actually lying in a currently rather sweaty bed, early hours, just imagining doing one but will attempt properly in the morning.) 😉 xxxx

Sandra, The prospect of all those repayments suddenly coming into force must be terrifying but aren’t there people that can negotiate really long term affordable repayments on your behalf? Sorry, I’m a bit clueless on financial stuff to my absolute shame, so just take a deep breathe and ignore me if I’m totally wrong.  I can’t see there is any other option for you at the moment than to deregister and start to claim some benefits for now until you find a job. Is V registered as a full time student too? Xx

Sandra.....  I remember you saying before that the main thing getting in your way for funding/help is that you are registered as a student.  Maybe I am over simplifying (I'm sure I am) but surely now is the time to de-register and defer your studies to a future date when everything is more settled?  There are more important things at stake here.... you can always come back to your studies later?  What am I missing?

If I cancel my student registration the council will demand £2,000 in council tax that we do not have to pay as students and the bank will demand the immediate payment of my £2,000 overdraft from a student account that immediately reverts to a normal bank account. Plus, it would still have to pay what I owe to the university 😞

It was just unfortunate 1 year sepsis+loss of kidney+cancer+redundancy= big trouble

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

That's what I was thinking Sarah about deregistering as a student.  I used to get carers allowance when I looked after my mum and she got attendance allowance.  A friend of mine has just had to use universal credit as she lost her job.  She gets £125 a month!

Where is Seaside Sar.  Hope she is ok??

This chemo lark is ridiculous.  I have only just eaten my dinner and it's 10 o'clock.  God knows what time I'll be going to bed

Sonia....  I'm now worried at the fact that I never read the leaflets with any of my medicine, eeek!  Foolishly assuming that the docs know what they are doing.  Well done for spotting that contraindication 😮

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Hi everyone, here am I complaining and you are all going through the mill!

Oh my God!

OK, trying to reply to everyone, sorry if I am forgetting someone, I have not been sleeping for a long time and I am beaten!

Rosina, I do no qualify for Universal Credit because I am registered as a full time student, and thus, cannot be registered anywhere else, including as a carer. And I am really sorry about you went through, things like that happening have no excuse and it is quite worrying!

Implausible and Jencat, I have been speaking with Macmillan, but they say that there is nothing they can do, they have pushed me for the Citizens Advice that tried to give me a list for homeless people and foodbank, and pushed me back to Macmillan, who cannot do anything.

Church is a no-no. You see, I was working for Methodists, but I am Anglican and my church is nearby, but since I have changed parish three times for the past 5 years, there is no deep connection with anyone, plus, this is an impoverished area with more pensioners than pigeons, and the Methodists cannot even look at me after what they have done.

Edinbird, Sonia, Stargazer, Netienoo, Susie, Implausible, Rosina.... I kept looking to the screen, you are going through hell!

But isn't there any relief, anywhere?

Curse!

I have just check the websites for crowdfunding, but yes, they work when you have a huge list of contacts, which I do not have, so, no more ideas.

Who knew that I would have such difficulty finding a job anywhere!

Rosina I am eating a lot of healthy stuff but then I know you are too.  I healed really quickly from my 3 surgeries too and I am convinced that it has a lot to do with my Nutriseed superfood shake which I started taking last year after my beloved Molly springer spaniel died aged 15.  She was my real pal and almost like a daugher to me and I was so down that I needed a pick me up.   It has about 12 superfoods in it and I always add blueberries, strawberries, kiwi, banana and almond milk.   Wouldnt surprise me if that and my mums dementia was the start of all this barrying mess but I'll never know.  By the way they were 7 last time and then went down to almost zero and my last chemo is 10th June!

Sorry your chemo has been delayed Rosina and as for injecting yourself in the ladies words fail me. Not the most hygienic of places. Knowing my luck I'd have been seen and mistaken for a junky💉Couldn't a nurse do it for you? I can honestly say I wouldn't be able to inject myself. Glad you and your mum are ok now. Talking of which my mum sent an email earlier which included telling me for the third time that my cousin in Nottingham was in Luxemburg when we were in France. I Give up.

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Well good job I'm kind of on the ball today. I rang the GP today to get new medication for my oral thrush, by the time I managed to pick up prescription 5 pmish, read the info. Which states DO NOT take with Docetaxel, so rang back GP who said yeah yo can take it. So I then said maybe I would ring Oncology to check, and he said maybe that would be a good idea, as he cant prescribe anything but nystain. Rang Oncology, they said don't take it and they will get someone to to contact me tomorrow. ( after trying to get hold of someone on call.) So still have manky tongue with no taste buds but hey I'm getting used to it now.

Rotten news on the delay Rosina, but better to be safe.

Families are interesting, I had a text from my sister last week asking if she could contact me, and am I still not working Thursday and Friday, I haven't been in work since December.  She lives in Reading so I don't see her often, but we have talked about my treatment quite a few times. She then asked am I enjoying my break from chemo !! at that stage I gave in.

well off to drink lots as my throat is now sore, so hopefully with flush it all through. xxx

Great stuff Daisy! I’d rather not think about the job stuff but until I can get exempted from interviews and I’m still working I have to... fingers crossed the assessment on Friday finds I can’t be interviewed in the midst of all this.
