Jamesy re appointment at the doctors I actually rang my gp the Friday before last as the chemo ward told me to and was seen within 20 minutes of calling - this is unheard of in my surgery.  Also the gp has said if I need anything prescribing they can do it over the phone unless it’s something they need to see so it’s worth a call. It’s expensive enough without paying for the meds you need.

Crazy times well done you for the jab you’re a braver girl than me.

Shi will defo dress and full make up and maybe even choose some tunes to shave my head to 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Jamesy, that's no good having to worry about finances on top of everything else you're going through.  Have you contacted Macmillan? I think they can offer assistance in some cases.

Amy I slept great when I was on the steroids , yesterday first day off them and I was awake till 2 am !! I’m just writing it all down and will check next cycle x
I was given my free prescription card on the day of diagnosis , however to get an appt at our docs is highly unlikely so I’ve just bought anything I’ve needed , only thing I have got was difflam and I got that when I went for my flu jab x obv it will be used for the next 5-10 yrs now for the tabs , I can not believe how much I have spent on things , heating is in permanent too , only earner in my house and I’m off work Till end of treatment due to my job and infection , so savings are taking a blummin big battering x will be on loads overtime second half of year I hope ! Hi everyone,

Gosh, I hadn't even thought of things like how insurance might be affected - yes Shocked having cancer is expensive isn't it?!

Thankfully my prescription exemption card came through today.  Does everyone know about that?

Aaaand, my hair has started coming out, hmmm.  I was meant to go to a Look Good Feel Better session today but it was cancelled, bad timing.

Onc appt. on Thursday ahead of round 2 next week, hope they sort out whatever it is that's been keeping me awake?!

Hi Aliand  - I think I have developed a scarf fetish I have bought 7in the last 3 days 🤭 got a little cotton sleep hat last week and my straighteners broke today is that a sign to get rid or what - bit spooky really 👻👻👻

thanks for the tip on insurance as well

I’m not sure I’ll ever be calm going to a hospital appointment again I seem to get nothing but bad news every time I have any type of test -  in 6 months I have been diagnosed with PD, told I have a tumour on my Pituatory gland (its slow growing though so they think benign) and diagnosed with breast cancer - every appointment fills me with dread. I am a medical nightmare but it’s amazing how much all of this puts things into perspective.

just back from the GP she has given me a tub of what feels like grease to help with my dry hands - think I’ve been overdoing the antibacterial gel.

Hi Ladies,

I knew I'd seen something on the young network re travel insurance so just flicked through and found it.

A few people have used Worl First  Getting quotes for £50.92 for a family of 4 instead of £200 and one lady said she had claimed under them becasue of her brothers illness and they were very good.

While there spotted recommendations for The New Bar from Lush and Ginger Shampoo from bosy shop for newly growing hair. Worth writing down in the back of your diaries for future reference.

Shocked I've always had longish shoulder length hair and was very suprised how liberating get a short cut was. I'm not missing the hairdryer and straighteners and getting quite good at tying scarves. I thought I'd be crying my eyes out when it was cut short and when it was shaved but I didnt. My neck is always cold though I'm walking round the house in my wooly scarf ! LOL  See it as an adventure, I spend a lot more time doing my makeup now probably because I've more time to do it. Oh and buy a cotton hat for sleeping in, pillows are cold !

Shocked I've got an USS and oncology appointment tomorrow and thats stressing me out too.

Hope you are doing ok crazytimes and starfire xxx

Yes I was looking at Eurotunnel - expecting sky high figures as I also have Parkinson's - I still have my annual policy up until July so won't be renewing until my treatment chemo and rads (FINGERS CROSSED) is finished. Just ran a very quick quote through Allclear and it came up at over £500 to take out now and when I changed to just the tamoxifen dropped to just over £200 for the annual with worldwide and USA. We are supposed to be travelling August as well but that'll be a wait and see trip.

Ladies

Re insurance, Eurotunnel was the absolute best for European cover (£85 I think for a year for whole family) and NO questionnaires, but you do need to simply confirm you are fit to travel (i.e. doctors would not say don't travel).

I have just purchased annual worldwide cover via Alpha travel insurance and they were the cheapest (for the same level of cover) as some of the more well known specialist brands. You have to do a lengthy questionnaire on line but it was pretty straightforward. Think it cost about £150 for full annual worldwide insurance (inc Canada, and USA) for our family of 4 and mine was slightly higher due to another family member's medical condition. You can choose your level of excess too, which will affect the price.

Shi - Not sure I want to be a teenager again about 27 that would be nice and the body to go with it (before pregnancy and mastectomies).

Hair now coming out in clumps at the back - I really want it to hold until Friday as thats when I had planned shaving it - daft I know but evvery extra day counts I've always had long hair so its a massive deal 😞

On the plus side BA have just really kindly moved my Easter flights to October for me at no cost so I have a trip to Florida's Gulf Coast to plan YAY and bog thumbs up to BA customer service team.

Hello Ladies

I'm a year on from you all but I saw your comment about Abraxane, Starfire.  I was dx in Jan 17, had 3 rounds FEC and then was meant to be on Taxotere, like most of you, but my onc got me on Abraxane as I really really struggled with any level of steroids. Abraxane doesn't need any. I had 3 rounds of Abraxane.

I didn't have too bad SEs on either FEC or Abraxane, and I'd say Abraxane was pretty straightforward. The infusion is quick - no premeds needed, so it was 30 mins. I gave up on the anti sick meds beforehand too, as I didn't suffer from nausea (other than that caused by anti sickness meds!)

The main SEs for me were a funny taste with certain foods and a lack of appetite, that lasted about a week after each dose. Also I had quite a bit of leg weakness for the week after each dose, but this subsided in the remaining 2 weeks. I had very bad indigestion immediately after the infusion but taking Gaviscon for a day put paid to that.

Hope that puts your mind at rest, Starfire, but if you think of any other questions please lask away!I can remember most of it, although I do try and consign that wonderful time to the back of my memory!

Oh yes starfire don’t worry I’ll pass on the tips.
Found another a shampoo called water and hair shampoo. If you email them telling them you’ve lost your hair through chemo and now it’s starting to grow back they send the first one for free.
Worth a go

I’m feeling so much better, almost normal I’m fact I’m day 13 so today I’ve bought a cupboard for the hallway for all the kitchen crap, a vegetarian cookbook, eyelash grower gel, red soap dispencer, kitchen cupboard pull out drawers, new kitchen knives, 2 blouses a back of door kitchen bin, 2 Pyrex dishes with lids for batch cooking and liquid eyeliner to practice for when the eyelashes fall out.
Abi is that classed as a spending spree 🤑👜

Love the idea of going on a bender Shi! That sounds like a right good plan for each and every one of us! Isn’t it strange that so many of us are falling under the age 45 bracket and they claim breast cancer only effects 20% of women under the age of 50 🤔. I also just scrape into the category by the skin of my teeth! I’m booked onto the look good feel better course on the 21st February so I’m looking forward to picking up some tips from that! Have a lovely evening all xxx 💖

Get yourself some treats too, I went on a right online bender after my reaction to the t, made me feel better when it all started arriving, something to look forward to if that makes sense. 💕💕shi xx

Starfire - new name,= new start and we are all hoping it’s a much better experience for you this time round though I understand you nerves especially after all you have been through.

Aliand - I also just scrape into that age group at 43 so will also take a look - whoever said life begins at 40 needs a good shouting at it’s been nothing but hassle since I turned 40!!

crazytimes - hope all goes well today round 2 already times flying.

Amy not sleeping isn’t much fun - wish I could share some of my ability to sleep at least  75% of the time I swear my body thinks I should just hibernate until May - it seems we are complete opposites with that.  My hair is coming out quickly now my son is completely freaked out by it I think it’ll be Tim ego shave it off at the weekend I’m blocking the dyson up with it.

Hey Crazytimes,

I pretty much didn't sleep for a week after my first round and I'm hearing it's probably from the steroids.  I ended up getting some sleeping tablets from the doctor but I'm still not sleeping well without them and I've only got 1 more.  I'm going to discuss with the onc on Thursday about it as, for me, it was the worst se - good luck.

Thanks Aliand, I'm 40 so will take a look at that network you mentioned.  I've got my Look Good Feel Better session tomorrow, even tho (so far) I've not lost any hair I want to be prepared (it's mainly my eyebrows I'm worried about, lol).

Best wishes everyone,

Amy x

I've joined the 'younger breast cancer care network' - you have to be under 45 at diagnosis so I just scrape in at 45. Anyway thought I'd pass on anythng that might be of use to us all.

For eyelashes they seem to like something called revitalash its on amazon £70 but you can buy a small 1 ml 6 week supply sample from revitalash website which is what i've just done. For a few people - not everyone it seems eyelashes can be very slow to grow back, you cant use it during chemo so mine will just go in the drawer for now but I thought it would be a good thing to use afterwards to aid them growing again. Iknow some people dont loose them do they.

Just for the record, I'm not leaving you lot, this is a journey I need poeple doing it at the same time you are all irreplaceable to me already.

Oh and the abcess is def getting smaller - hot baths and antibiotics are the way to go, I can sit down now !

Hi starfire, glad you’ve changed your username darling 😘😘pm mishy18 she went into abraxane she will be able to advise you and put your mind as ease. I got put back onto fec for my 6th chemo. Just keep an eye on yourself and ring the number for anything even with no temperature. I was exactly the same as you darling after the allergic reaction,. But the girls who have gone onto abraxane have been fine, it’s mixed with different things and is more expensive than docetaxol. Mishy18 is on our Oct thread too if you want to message her in that too, she has looked after us too 👍👍hope that helps darling, keep 💪💪💪😘😘😘💕💕shi xx

Totally totally understand your fear I think we would all feel exactly the same in the circumstances. You really have been to hell and back !
I know nothing of abraxane but can I recommend ringing the helpline they have here as there’s access to nurses and they may be able to put your mind st rest.

Hello ladies it’s me FEC -in-h*ll with my NEW USERNAME starfire9.

Onc meeting on Friday was horrible. I’m starting ABRAXANE followed by 90% CARBOPLATIN on Wednesday. (Shi I would really like to know more about this chemo)

I’ve been feeling really weird since my allergic reaction to Doxetaxol last Wednesday. Dizzy, numb teeth and gums,(once says it’s nerve damage) chemo brain and fatigue. I am so worried and stressed about the new chemo as it is still related to Doxetaxol the one I am allergic too. Five days isn’t very long to get used to the idea of a new regime. If anyone has any knowledge related to my experience and ABRAXANE I would really like to hear it.

I hope you have all been doing well over the last few days? x

Hello Newbies and welcome 🙂

Rosie, Sigorney Weaver is still a good look in my eyes - I think I’ll look more balding middle age man 😳 hair is coming out all over the place now so it won’t be long before I shave it off.

my nose bleeds seem to have stopped and feeling loads brighter today even managed to go up to the new house and shout orders 💪

Aliand those mastectomy cushions will be great for after surgery - car journeys are very ouch every time you go over a little bump in the road

Thanks Crazy times, I am planning to have my hair cut in the hope it will look thicker.  My loss seems to be all at the back, my fringe still seems intact.  Maybe I should invest in a hair piece I used to wear one in the 1960s.

Welcome newbies!
Fel70 I'm on TCH (round 2 morrow), I'm cold capping and mine Is defo thinning - esp at the back. Seems fairly even at the mo so no bald bits yet.
I've opted not to go for wig - but bought some fab scarves and hats from annabandana and bohemia. Going to persevere with cold cap. My chemo nurse told me that even if it all falls out it stimulates hair follicles and can speed up re-griwth. Just gotta grit my teeth for the first 19 minutes of the freeze then it's fine!!
One tip I found...i wore a small towel round my neck while it was on...then put the towel over my head once the cap was removed...felt lovely with the body heat...proper defrosting!!!

Hi new ladies!
As Rosie says T is doable! I had number 2 on Thursday and felt great on Friday and yesterday morning. Yesterday afternoon and today have seen me feeling a bit worse for wear but I’m still up and moving around. I have found if I just give in and chill out when my bodies telling me then I feel better for it. The worst effects are the tiredness, achy bones and the nausea this time which I didnt experience last time. Try and keep your fluids up - I’m struggling with that at the moment due to the nausea and I find that is when I suffer. It’s really hard to do to when you have such different taste buds!
Good luck xx strength and positivity xxx

Hi Ladies,

Have been reading all your posts but wasn't sure how to join in.  Having my 2nd FEC on Friday and hoping I will feel as good as I have after the 1st.   Using the cold cap which wasn't too bad but hair now getting much thinner don't know whether I will need to get a wig.  Anyone else using the cap finding the same?
