Re: January chemo starters ?

CT - hope you're OK, this i shard enough without having to worry about your other half.

Starfire - he has more hair than me though which is making me a tad jealous Smiley Frustrated

Rosie - almost there for you then, just think in 3 weeks chemo is all over for you (apart from the crappy side effects).

Its my good week this week and I intend to make the most of it and fully appreciate feeling close to normal Smiley Happy

Re: January chemo starters ?

Shi...thank you for the advise. I really don’t know what it was about today’s that freaked me out...

Starfire that pictures a little piece of heaven!!  I’ve got 1 more FEC after this one. Essentially they didn’t do the didn’t do the last T but still the 3 FEC so I gained 3 weeks back...chemo nurse today said oh they can always add some more at the end...I thought “can the b@ll@cks add it on!!! They’d have to catch me first”

I’m guessing by the time I’ve had surgery we will then all be somewhere on the radiation train together!

CT hope you’re holding up ok xxxx

Ali and you look amazing and your daughter must be so proud of you xxxx
CT I can’t comment on hubby as mine isn’t here , but I do think about how we would of been and how he would of handled this situation , he liked to be the protector and knowing he couldn’t protect me from this would of cracked him up , also I’m a stiff upper lip and crack on with it so I probably would have just tried to carry on with him not knowing how ill or scared I was , it’s a tough one x
I’m still feeling pretty rough today on day 5 which is unusual for me , but I think our bodies are getting tired xx
I think we’re all pretty amazing actually
Tom hardy on a float yes please xx

Re: January chemo starters ?

Morning my beautiful swimmers 🐟🐠🐟🐠🐟just popping the flippers on you all for a bit of extra paddling power, it’s normal to get a bit of mid point slump but once this ones over it’s really 4 more weeks and glam glam aliand will have 6 weeks, so you are getting there amazing ladies 😘😘ct the mid point blow out with the oh is normal there have been quite a few of us had a similar episode of chucking the teddy out the pram, let him be in his man cave till he’s ready to come out. And don’t forget you can hitch a Life with Thor for a round of treatments that’s what he’s there for 😁😁😁💕💕✨✨✨shi xx

Aliand you look amazing...big hug for your daughter too. That’s certainly how to inspire them to be strong.

CT I’m so so sorry that you are having to deal with this on top of everything else...can you talk to him calmly? Make him realise this stress will have a detrimental effect on your health!!!!

Huge hug...xxx

Thanks for the support ladies...at least I know I’m normal, thought I was being a bit of a baby!!!

Aliand mid June...I met a girl outside the oncology unit on Friday and she was offered a trial of just 4 sessions or the standard 6...however if the 4 weren’t effective she’d get four more. She said she took the 6 wasn’t ready to gamble!!!!

Re: January chemo starters ?

Hey Rosie, yup I'm due in today an anxious as hell. Don't want to feel sick again, is defo getting harder.

Massive argument with hubby last night resulting in him walking out last night hasn't helped. He came back 4 hours later but he mentioned not knowing if we have much of a future 😣
Oh that and it's snowing and all the schools are shut!! Aarrgghh....could so do without all this today!!!!!

Re: January chemo starters ?

Oh wow Aliand, you look great and so brave! 💪

Rosie, I think it's normal for us to be having these ups and downs.  I'm currently on my week of feeling normal and I just felt really sad yesterday, I probably need a good cry but not feeling so miserable today.  Have you been offered counselling?  I have but heard nothing since 😕

Re: January chemo starters ?

Aliand - you both look stunning, love the earrings and necklace, you rock being bald  Heart do you know why you are having 8 sessions  - really feel for you but you are half way we'll get through to the end together Smiley Happy

Rosieh - You are completely normal, I think its getting worse each round as I know I'm going to feel so bad after for 10 days Never mind worrying the day before chemo, I've been dreading the next round since I walked out the hospital from the last chemo. Good luck tommorrow brave lady - hopefully knowing you are so close to the end will fet you through,

Paloma - wow when you write it all down in one list there are so many side effects.

Member

Re: January chemo starters ?

Hi Paloma - welcome, gosh thats a long list of side effects, I guess mine are similar but you dont realise til you list them like that how much we have to go through.

Rosie, you are perfectly normal, of course you dread each treatment its horride, just read Palomas list to remind yoursel how awful all this is. But know I am really jealous that you are so near the end, I've still got 4 to do and even without any delays that means it will be middle of June before I get out of chemo hell ! Now that really is a long way away. Not sure if that helps you but I hope it does.

I went to a party on Saturday night and braved the bald, it really did feel liberating. This is me and my gorgeous daughter who put this up on instagram saying "much love for my mama" we got 97 likes mostly her friends !!! She has told very few people about my cancer so this was a big thing for her.

IMG_0309.JPG

a week of glorious normalness awaits me before back to the chemo hell and the new drugs = T  oh how I dread it.

no swim cap needed, channeling my inner Duncan Goodhue - but I think I might be a little more attractive !

Re: January chemo starters ?

Thanks Buddyfan, will get some tomorrow.
Paloma, I have had very similar side affects through FEC except the bone ache/pain has only arisen since the T or injections.
Rosie, completely agree, I thought getting half way would make it easier but the end seems so far. Also the cold cap is getting so much more painful each time and I’m still losing hair but I’ve got this far I don’t want to stop now but dread it! Xx

Re: January chemo starters ?

Wow...stupid cancer with every high you seem to get a low...I was so happy Friday getting the news the Chemo is at last working and that I only need 3 FEC which means I was lucky enough to drop 1 session. I was all that’s great news and I can take anything chemo throws at me now I know it’s working ...well that didn’t last long because for some reason I am dreading tomorrow’s session. The thought of going seems to be getting harder each time...urgh my positive buzz has turned into anxious moan...is anyone else finding each session harder than the last to face? Xxx

Re: January chemo starters ?

Thanks for the welcome ladies Woman Happy I like the swimming theme and the life raft sounds a mighty good option Woman Wink

My regime has been to have the steroids 4 x 2mg tablets twice a day for the first 4 days for each of the FEC cycles for anti-sickness and have been told to start them the day before T and for the next 2 days in order to make it less likely to have an allergic reaction to the T.

With the chemo, 2 different anti-sickness drugs, the steroids and the injections, its hard to work out what is causing side affects sometimes. I have suffered aches and pains and tenderness in neck and shoulders and stabbing pains in my legs but wasn't sure if its the chemo or injections. Other side affects have been sore mouth/throat (ice lollies helped) numbness in feet (was told it was nothing to do with chemo), stinging eyes, chest pains and flutterings (which I found very scary and Triage told me to call an ambulance), teariness, horrible taste in mouth (sucking sugar free polos helped), heartburn, nausea (ginger biscuits helped) and waking up with my hands numb and tingly, which went away when I wiggled them around rapidly, most recently a really painful tear caused by constipation which made it feel like I was pooing razor bladesSmiley Frustrated(Prune juice Woman Tongue and an ointment from GP have helped) hair loss and nearly all my eyebrows already too, but still have eyelashes. I missed my period the first cycle but had one the second cycle. Had a red rash/spots and very sensitive skin on my cheeks for a few days each time which went away on its own.

Have also been allergic to dressings on my Picc line, so have had skin reactions and soreness.

I was told painting my nails a dark colour before starting the T might protect them a bit. I had really long thick hair, which I was very fond of but was told there was no point using the cold cap as the drugs were too strong and it wouldn't work.

I wake up about 6 times a night and something that has really helped me get back to sleep and to stop my mind going a hundred miles an hour has been listening to audio cassette books with headphones, couldn't do without it now. Xx

Re: January chemo starters ?

Hi Jamesy. I have 8 a day sun mon (chemo day) and Tues. I had no issues while on them but massive steroid downer on the weds, so asked them the be reduced gradually. I now do 4 on weds, 2 thurs and 1 Fri.. much better for me that way.
Member

Re: January chemo starters ?

Hi Jamesy, I was given the same amount (i.e. 8mg twice daily) and was concerned but no apparent ill effects, other than had a problem sleeping but they wouldn’t have gone ahead with chemo if I hadn’t have taken them.  To try and resolve the sleeping issue,I took the first dose early, and the second dose around about 2pm.

Morning day 4 of last fec , feeling yuk , 🐠🐠🐠
Bit concerned by the amount of steroids I’ve been given to start before T , 8 a day ! That’s a lot isn’t it ?
Is this normal ?

Re: January chemo starters ?

Marie, for bone pain you need a Loratadine based antihistamin. Piriton isn’t Loratadine. Tesco and boots have own brand Loratadine.

Re: January chemo starters ?

Thanks everyone. I tried Paracetamol and ibruffen and neither seemed to help but have used co codamol today which has definately taken the edge off.
Hi Paloma, we have ‘met’ on the other forum but here is definitely a great place for support. Also pop into the earlier months as the ladies there also give great advice and support. Xx

Re: January chemo starters ?

Hi Paloma and welcome.

Had my first T on Friday.  Felt fine yesterday but a bit achy today.  With regard to the injections, up until now I have found ibuprofen helps.

Re: January chemo starters ?

Welcome to our team Paloma xx

Well first steroid day prior to round 4 / 6 TCH tomorrow. Getting bit anxious bout feeling so crappy again for the week...but my Onc reminded me to think about it as having only 3 weeks of icky feelings left... which is a good point.

Went out last night with a couple of friends had a run and coke (which I could taste!!!) Had a fab night! Defo going to plan in another one or two of those evenings for my next cycle - really helped lift my mood. Hubby didn't like me going out much...but tbh I'm a bit passed caring now - harsh as it sounds.

Happy swimming ladies!!

Re: January chemo starters ?

Hi Paloma - glad you found us Smiley Happy as Amy says welcome to the swim team. How has your journey been so far??

Marie - I was initially on 7 days of jabs but when I mentioned the bone pain increased towards day 5 the Onc reduced to 5 days saying that my body was working to hard, so keep a track and if it gets worse as you go tell the team. I have found the antihistmine have worked for me though so may be worth a try.

Rosie - I hope you have had a weekend of celebrating your news before your next round Smiley Happy

Re: January chemo starters ?

Welcome Paloma to our little band of swimmers. If you’ve read our posts you might see we have a keep swimming moto...thought out by one of our ladies little girl. We also have an emergency life raft for bad days crewed by Idris Elba, Tom Hardy and Thor!!! Yes things get a little weird here at times...I blame all the drugs.

Marie I found the first T the most painful, second much better, general pain killers will definitely help loads just check your temp before each dose of Paracetamol. Space out your dose too so you tKe Paracetamol then 2 hours later your Ibuprofen and so on...I used some 15mg codeine tablets for a couple of nights which helped me sleep but you have to be a bit careful if you’re constipated.

Good luck it does pass after a couple of days...

ive got my 4th session tomorrow and FEC number 2!!! Xxx

Re: January chemo starters ?

Welcome to the swim team Paloma 😊🐠

I'm doing EC-T, finished EC (woop) and start T on the 27th (eek) 😯

Hey Marie, this might be a silly suggestion but have you tried paracetamol or ibuprofen?  I found the clariton didn't do anything but ibuprofen did.  Also, check with your doc if you have to take all 8 as it seems it varies around the country - I get given 10 but some others only 5.

Re: January chemo starters ?

Hi. I had my first T on Wednesday, I was feeling ok just a bit ‘heavy’ but since yesterday morning the bone pain/aches are awful. I’m assuming it’s since I used the injections on Friday night. I am in constant pain, can’t sleep just have to keep moving about. I can’t keep this up for 8 days! 😔. Epsom salt bath helped for the time I was in it and am going to get some piriton today. Has anyone got any ideas? Do I have to have 8 injections? Thanks x

Re: January chemo starters ?

Fantastic news Rosie and thanks for the heads up on what to expect with the T.  Have felt fine this evening although a little tired but that might be the lack of sleep last night.

Thanks for all your kind words ladies.  I think as the weather gets warmer I will go commando more often - it feels great.  Have a great weekend everyone x

Am feeling very very happy...

Just saw the Oncologist who said that the response my tumour has had to FEC has been staggering. Best of all though as I only need to have the scheduled 3 FEC not the 4 they thought before...

So I only have 1 more session to go after Monday's. I feel like someone just gave me 3 weeks of life back...xxx

Re: January chemo starters ?

Go Dealdoh!!! Good luck today. Wish I was brave enough to go outside bald - maybe once I have a bit more covering rather than just fuzzy white spikey bits , always go without in the house but not yet stepped through the front door without something covering my head.

Difflam is amazing only have a couple of sore ulcers left now which is a lot better than what was there. Must get it added to my bag of goodies for the next round.

Surveyor coming today so I’ve suddenly turned house proud and a cleaning queen.
