CT - hope you're OK, this i shard enough without having to worry about your other half.
Starfire - he has more hair than me though which is making me a tad jealous
Rosie - almost there for you then, just think in 3 weeks chemo is all over for you (apart from the crappy side effects).
Its my good week this week and I intend to make the most of it and fully appreciate feeling close to normal
Shi...thank you for the advise. I really don’t know what it was about today’s that freaked me out...
Starfire that pictures a little piece of heaven!! I’ve got 1 more FEC after this one. Essentially they didn’t do the didn’t do the last T but still the 3 FEC so I gained 3 weeks back...chemo nurse today said oh they can always add some more at the end...I thought “can the b@ll@cks add it on!!! They’d have to catch me first”
I’m guessing by the time I’ve had surgery we will then all be somewhere on the radiation train together!
CT hope you’re holding up ok xxxx
Great pic Aliand... looking fab!
RosieH are you not to having anymore Chemo after the 4th round then?
How is everyone else doing? Still numb finger tips... not good for typing 🙄😴💩
I know what you mean about each cycle becoming harder to face BUT think how good it is going to feel when you know it’s going to be the last one 🤪
Aliand, what a beautiful picture of you and your daughter you must be so so proud of each other. You look so glamorous.
CT - big hug to you x
Crikey what’s wrong with me today...the thought of going this afternoon makes me want to cry!!! Having a right wobble xxx
Aliand you look amazing...big hug for your daughter too. That’s certainly how to inspire them to be strong.
CT I’m so so sorry that you are having to deal with this on top of everything else...can you talk to him calmly? Make him realise this stress will have a detrimental effect on your health!!!!
Thanks for the support ladies...at least I know I’m normal, thought I was being a bit of a baby!!!
Aliand mid June...I met a girl outside the oncology unit on Friday and she was offered a trial of just 4 sessions or the standard 6...however if the 4 weren’t effective she’d get four more. She said she took the 6 wasn’t ready to gamble!!!!
Oh wow Aliand, you look great and so brave! 💪
Rosie, I think it's normal for us to be having these ups and downs. I'm currently on my week of feeling normal and I just felt really sad yesterday, I probably need a good cry but not feeling so miserable today. Have you been offered counselling? I have but heard nothing since 😕
Aliand - you both look stunning, love the earrings and necklace, you rock being bald do you know why you are having 8 sessions - really feel for you but you are half way we'll get through to the end together
Rosieh - You are completely normal, I think its getting worse each round as I know I'm going to feel so bad after for 10 days Never mind worrying the day before chemo, I've been dreading the next round since I walked out the hospital from the last chemo. Good luck tommorrow brave lady - hopefully knowing you are so close to the end will fet you through,
Paloma - wow when you write it all down in one list there are so many side effects.
Hi Paloma - welcome, gosh thats a long list of side effects, I guess mine are similar but you dont realise til you list them like that how much we have to go through.
Rosie, you are perfectly normal, of course you dread each treatment its horride, just read Palomas list to remind yoursel how awful all this is. But know I am really jealous that you are so near the end, I've still got 4 to do and even without any delays that means it will be middle of June before I get out of chemo hell ! Now that really is a long way away. Not sure if that helps you but I hope it does.
I went to a party on Saturday night and braved the bald, it really did feel liberating. This is me and my gorgeous daughter who put this up on instagram saying "much love for my mama" we got 97 likes mostly her friends !!! She has told very few people about my cancer so this was a big thing for her.
a week of glorious normalness awaits me before back to the chemo hell and the new drugs = T oh how I dread it.
no swim cap needed, channeling my inner Duncan Goodhue - but I think I might be a little more attractive !
Wow...stupid cancer with every high you seem to get a low...I was so happy Friday getting the news the Chemo is at last working and that I only need 3 FEC which means I was lucky enough to drop 1 session. I was all that’s great news and I can take anything chemo throws at me now I know it’s working ...well that didn’t last long because for some reason I am dreading tomorrow’s session. The thought of going seems to be getting harder each time...urgh my positive buzz has turned into anxious moan...is anyone else finding each session harder than the last to face? Xxx
Thanks for the welcome ladies I like the swimming theme and the life raft sounds a mighty good option
My regime has been to have the steroids 4 x 2mg tablets twice a day for the first 4 days for each of the FEC cycles for anti-sickness and have been told to start them the day before T and for the next 2 days in order to make it less likely to have an allergic reaction to the T.
With the chemo, 2 different anti-sickness drugs, the steroids and the injections, its hard to work out what is causing side affects sometimes. I have suffered aches and pains and tenderness in neck and shoulders and stabbing pains in my legs but wasn't sure if its the chemo or injections. Other side affects have been sore mouth/throat (ice lollies helped) numbness in feet (was told it was nothing to do with chemo), stinging eyes, chest pains and flutterings (which I found very scary and Triage told me to call an ambulance), teariness, horrible taste in mouth (sucking sugar free polos helped), heartburn, nausea (ginger biscuits helped) and waking up with my hands numb and tingly, which went away when I wiggled them around rapidly, most recently a really painful tear caused by constipation which made it feel like I was pooing razor blades(Prune juice and an ointment from GP have helped) hair loss and nearly all my eyebrows already too, but still have eyelashes. I missed my period the first cycle but had one the second cycle. Had a red rash/spots and very sensitive skin on my cheeks for a few days each time which went away on its own.
Have also been allergic to dressings on my Picc line, so have had skin reactions and soreness.
I was told painting my nails a dark colour before starting the T might protect them a bit. I had really long thick hair, which I was very fond of but was told there was no point using the cold cap as the drugs were too strong and it wouldn't work.
I wake up about 6 times a night and something that has really helped me get back to sleep and to stop my mind going a hundred miles an hour has been listening to audio cassette books with headphones, couldn't do without it now. Xx
Hi Jamesy, I was given the same amount (i.e. 8mg twice daily) and was concerned but no apparent ill effects, other than had a problem sleeping but they wouldn’t have gone ahead with chemo if I hadn’t have taken them. To try and resolve the sleeping issue,I took the first dose early, and the second dose around about 2pm.
Hi Paloma and welcome.
Had my first T on Friday. Felt fine yesterday but a bit achy today. With regard to the injections, up until now I have found ibuprofen helps.
Welcome Paloma to our little band of swimmers. If you’ve read our posts you might see we have a keep swimming moto...thought out by one of our ladies little girl. We also have an emergency life raft for bad days crewed by Idris Elba, Tom Hardy and Thor!!! Yes things get a little weird here at times...I blame all the drugs.
Marie I found the first T the most painful, second much better, general pain killers will definitely help loads just check your temp before each dose of Paracetamol. Space out your dose too so you tKe Paracetamol then 2 hours later your Ibuprofen and so on...I used some 15mg codeine tablets for a couple of nights which helped me sleep but you have to be a bit careful if you’re constipated.
Good luck it does pass after a couple of days...
ive got my 4th session tomorrow and FEC number 2!!! Xxx
Welcome to the swim team Paloma 😊🐠
I'm doing EC-T, finished EC (woop) and start T on the 27th (eek) 😯
Hey Marie, this might be a silly suggestion but have you tried paracetamol or ibuprofen? I found the clariton didn't do anything but ibuprofen did. Also, check with your doc if you have to take all 8 as it seems it varies around the country - I get given 10 but some others only 5.
Hi Ladies, not sure if I am posting in the right part? Good to read some of your posts on your journey's so far. I started FEC-T in January also, I've had 3 x FEC so far and will be starting the T part on 29th March. Best wishes to you all x
Fantastic news Rosie and thanks for the heads up on what to expect with the T. Have felt fine this evening although a little tired but that might be the lack of sleep last night.
Thanks for all your kind words ladies. I think as the weather gets warmer I will go commando more often - it feels great. Have a great weekend everyone x
Thank you ladies...I will finish on the 9th now which seems so close!!! After all that worry
Cant believe it....xxx
Am feeling very very happy...
Just saw the Oncologist who said that the response my tumour has had to FEC has been staggering. Best of all though as I only need to have the scheduled 3 FEC not the 4 they thought before...
So I only have 1 more session to go after Monday's. I feel like someone just gave me 3 weeks of life back...xxx
Congratulations Dealdoh...that’s how to take control!!!
Good luck today with T, if you’re like me you’ll be ok today and tomorrow and then Sunday afternoon it’s creeps up on you...everything crossed for you .
lost track of who’s up today and next week so good luck to everyone on the nnext one ladies ....
Swim hard xxx
Go Dealdoh!!! Good luck today. Wish I was brave enough to go outside bald - maybe once I have a bit more covering rather than just fuzzy white spikey bits , always go without in the house but not yet stepped through the front door without something covering my head.
Difflam is amazing only have a couple of sore ulcers left now which is a lot better than what was there. Must get it added to my bag of goodies for the next round.
Surveyor coming today so I’ve suddenly turned house proud and a cleaning queen.
