Re: June 2019 chemo starters

Sorry you are all having a hard time of it atm☹️☹️☹️ I’m in the honeymoon period of early on in the chemo but so good to know you will be there for my dark days too.

Know what you mean about the invites drying up ... I’ve got long-standing arrangements for next 2 weekends then zilch 😠.

And Vic, definitely get meds sorted for depression. You do not want that to dig deep whilst your body is coping with the chemo.

And on another note, I’m getting my hair shaved off this evening... never liked it anyway 😉

Big hugs ladies. Stay safe in the shade. And glad we all keeping positive vibes and finding something each day to make us happy 🙏. Right now I can hear a bird twittering in the garden. It might be the goldfinch we found nesting yesterday 🤗😘

Re: June 2019 chemo starters

Hey girls sounds like we’re all struggling with mood tiredness etc. I rang the doctors this morning for something for heartburn, was told no more call backs I’ll  have to wait til Monday, rang oncology they rang surgery and told them off so I’m waiting for a call back now. Also they are arranging for me to chat with their therapist as I’m still so low, I’ve decided to up my sertraline, I’ve always said I can cope with anything except depression and unfortunately this is the case (horrible chemo) such a shame we don’t all live local, I’m sitting in the garden having fruit toast and a cuppa waiting for my grandchildren to come round, the paddling pools up and I’m sure the slide will be put into it. Anyway cheers to a lovely day and hats off to us for being so brave and strong 😘😘😘😘vic xxxx

Re: June 2019 chemo starters

Hey Ruby,

my hospital will call me if bloods were not good so assume im having the treatment.

im retired but still find each day a drag..i am used to seeing friends and. i read a lot but nothing is staying in my head and i like being outside in my garden but no energy n find the sun hot even though im covered up... i love the sun...  we have a border collie called Micky so i manage a short walk with him in the mornings unless im feeling rubbish.

Nothing worse for me than people around you being ' normal '...  this feeling i have today will pass,

stay strong ladies.  Mini mad xx💖💖

Minimad! You are half way there! Go you!

i am ok, full of steroids, acid tablets and anti sickness tabs, got sore feet and tired but otherwise ok thanks.

i too am sick of it all and can’t wait to be done, the boredom is the worst bit. I am used to full time work, long hours and a reasonable social life. Invites tend to dry up a bit when people hear the words cancer or chemo. And it is tricky as you never really know how you will feel at any time!

Were your bloods all ok?

Hello Lisa and welcome yo the group.

Nicky thank you for the tip, away to see that tonight with my little boy y and nieces. We always see all the Marvel films.

Update on sore hand and arm, it's now two wks since second EC and it's much better. Almost back to normal, but not 100%

Thinking chemo is the other arm next wk.

Race of life this Sunday. 44 of us on my team so we're making a day of it and having drinks n food after, looking forward to it.

Apparently this Yr is the first Yr for men and children to be involved, glad they changed that then.

Welcome lisamcl, hope second dose is kinder, I am also hoping same thing, had my second carboplatin/nab paclitaxel on Wednesday, still riding on the steroids but no Filgrastrim this time so very nervous of neutropenia.

Hi

I’m new to this forum. Started my chemo three weeks ago after surgery. Original plan was 4 x EC over 8 weeks followed by 12 x P over 12 weeks. Thing is I had 4 nights in hospital with neutropenia after the first cycle so now might get my plan changed.

Had second dose this Tuesday just gone so waiting to see how that goes before my oncologist will decide.

Hi & welcome🤗

I’ve only been on here myself after my second round of EC I had on 1 July. Everyone has been really lovely and is good to have a place to go where people really do know what you’re going through. Hope you’re ok after the 2nd round? Sounded a bit of s nightmare last time. That must’ve been scary. I’m doing 4xEC every 3 weeks then 12 x Taxol, but I didn’t start until 7 weeks after mastectomy, so you’ve had quite a time of it. Really feeling for you.

Re: June 2019 chemo starters

Girls, I’m finding the constipation worse 2nd time. Thought I was being proactive. Senoket night before, and plenty of fruit, fibre, water, one movicol per day, walking, flax etc etc . Took a hot curry on Sunday night (chemo had been Monday) for any movement and nothing since💩😦. Silver lining is I expect my weight to drop considerably when it happens 😬😁

Botty back up tips, baby bum wipes, anosol and senokot/movical. My chemo was thursdays so I started laxatives on the Monday after just for about 2-3 days till system got back to normal 😲hope that helps 💕💕✨✨Shi xx

Re: June 2019 chemo starters

Yes. Thought I’d escaped constipation this 2nd time. No such luck. Horrible. Going try be proactive next round too! Zx

Re: June 2019 chemo starters

Had my picline flushed today and learnt that constipation can make you feel really sick, which it had twice with me. I thought I just had a weak tummy so now I know to start treatment for constipation a day or two before next round 😳.

Re: June 2019 chemo starters

Hi Vic

That’s good news re chemo tweak.

Unfortunately the constant dull ache is something we have to get used to perhaps 😕. I’m hoping the one I’ve had since last night won’t turn into another migraine...

My 2nd round of EC has pretty much been the mirrored the first but just took more meds to counteract the nausea the first few days. Days  5&6 are my absolute worst for fatigue.

It sounds like she might have been talking about antihistamine which is normally used for hay fever and allergic reactions. Not sure what reason it was being recommended for you though, so sorry not much help there!

Re: June 2019 chemo starters

Hi I spoke to oncology nurse who advised paracetamol with iburophen short term for headaches. She also mentioned antihistermins (sariton) but looking on line I think I’ve misheard that name, but it can work well with the injections. If anyone knows please say as don’t want to give wrong info out. Also in regards to the last 6 days of low mood and extreme tiredness she advised me to tell them on the day my bloods are due as the chemo can be tweaked a little that could make a huge difference to my symptoms. Hi Alvilajo,

i'd be interested in what your chemo team say about your headaches.

Like you i'm hoping each session, that the side  effects etc dont get worse.

hang in there... mini mad xx

Hi Alvilajo, great news no tears today. Very possible injections caused headache, did you check with your chemo team and find something to control them?

Re every session worse than the last - I think that can be true for some but not all, every round is different but it can also be predictable in terms of side effects. Might be worth noting down when in the cycle you felt more human, didn’t feel great etc. I have heard of some lucky ladies who sailed through with nothing more than needing an afternoon nap, also those who had a bad cycle followed by a pretty side effect free one. There is just no way of knowing sadly as we all react differently. Keep your chin up and remember you have one less chemo to go now. Ruby xxx

Hi

I had headache turning into migraine for 4 days. Just carried on taking paracetamol and ibruprofen and drank loads of water and lay in a dark room. I then made a GP appointment and they have prescribed a migraine nasal spray. The pharmacist refused to give my husband anything.

Feeling for you. It’s awful.

There’s even free sessions at our local Maggie’s Centre so might try that. Resigned to possibly staying in overnight again but ward is ok & has outdoor area so tolerable with food parcels from visitors! Thanks for good wishes xxx

Are you feeling a bit better today?? I hope so. And great suggestion re help to stop smoking from another chemo friend on this thread.

Your body will be going through so much and the steroids are probably making your emotions go all over the place.

Are you able to lie down and put on a face mask and relax for 15 minutes? Anything is good to help you chill xxx

Re: June 2019 chemo starters

Hope you’re home??? Are you feeling better??? I think you’d have been justified going for the hair loss alone however 😉

Once you’re feeling better do try some yoga breathing techniques (you also might remember them from giving birth 18 years ago!!), you may already be doing them  Obviously won’t stop the cause but incredibly beneficial for increasing oxygen around your body, and helping with stress, particularly after chemo. Take care x

Re: June 2019 chemo starters

Alvilajo, my mam stopped smoking but used a nhs smoking nurse from her doctors. Basically they give you the correct dosage of patch and vapour oils, and wean you off carefully. If you're not doing it via a nurse, might be helpful?

Hope you're OK Zed and you're out of hospital soon.

Don't know if I asked. Anyone get a sore arm n hand ftom the canular?

First time, I had nothing, this second time ftom day four my hand n arm hurt..??

Called up ward, but as there's no redness it's not a problem, just EC is hard on vein.

In other news, my hubby has shaved his head to a number two (he has often wore his head shaved, but was jealous of my head shave) and my sister is shaving her head today.

(although she's a convert Muslim and wears a scarf outside so the outside world won't know, us n family will)

Re: June 2019 chemo starters

Better to be safe on chemo, hopefully a false alarm but if there is something there you are in the right place for swift action. Being in hospital is grim, like going into another time zone - I had the ‘pleasure’ of five days as in inmate first round of chemo and I spent quite a lot of that plotting escape routes in my head!

I hope the pain has eased and you get to spend the day with your family xx

Well now ended up spending a night in hospital- not for radical hair loss 😝 but tightness / soreness in upper chest, chemo line said to come in be checked, of course Saturday so not very speedy, had X-ray, blood tests, waiting scan to exclude what they think is unlikely to be blood clot but have to be careful. Haven’t stayed in hospital for over 18 years since my last son was born! Hopefully out today to at least get Sunday afternoon with family. 🤞

Hi my 2nd round was Wednesday, after my 1st round I had 4 good days straight off but this time completely zapped out and emotions all over the place. I went to my granddaughters school fete for an hour xx

@EnglishRose2019 wrote:

That’s really difficult. When did you have the second round?

But I am a great believer in crying. It releases stress and hormones and I honestly think it can help. But also if you can get out for just 30 minutes a day (at whatever pace) to get oxygen in your system that helps too!! Yesterday I looked like a 90 year old and had to stop the traffic to cross the road I felt so fatigued, but was glad I did it as felt better in myself.

We are all coping with a lot atm. Look after yourselves 🙏🥰💕
