Gosh wolfee that must have been scary to watch and poor lady and daughter ! Well done on completing your last FEC. Hope the oil works. At least your sister should hopefully be over her cold by the time you are on your low count week.

I'll have a nosey at tesco stuff too. Looks like more shops are stocking paraben free which is a good thing x

How's it going with your daughters Trish. X

Blood test done for wed. Actually getting nervous bout starting new drug. Feels like starting again x

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Trisha69, has your daughter manages 2 get a nice work experience placement. I've just been sitting remembering mine gosh was a long time ago. I just did some admin at a car rental / workshop place but they were lovely. The best part was the walk gettting there. No bus but a long walk through short cut fields and I got really lost I was about 2 hours late it was before mobile phones the police got called and I was found covered in muck and with Hayfever sniffles from hell.
On a plus note my dad went and got me a new bike 🚴 so I could cycle πŸ‘

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Katie11, my friend has just told me that Tesco are now also stocking a new paraben free range it's in some funky colourful packaging. I'll do a late night brows if the isles one night this week.

Oh and I've just had the amazon email my package the theives oil has been delivered - exciting can't wait 2 burn it. My sisters cold apparently at work today has fully come out so I'll be able 2 try and stop it spreading about with this stuff.

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Hi All, back home now. 3rd and last FEC done now. The picc line made a big difference it was so nice not having my hand messed around with.

Not so nice was a poor lady this morning while I was waiting 2 start had some kind of funny turn during her treatment all the nurses went running. I could see the panic and worry on her daughters face and the lady's poor legs hanging off the chair, I could sense the panic in the room it was awful. I felt so sad and helpless I wanted 2 get up and try and comfort her daughter but got stuck in my seat. They ended up taking the last away I'm not sure maybe addmiting her on a ward? It was heartbreaking and something I'll never forget.

Anyway apart from that mine went smooth after the delay starting. I do have a massive headache a killer I hadn't got all my water in this morning could be that? But all good home now. X

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Here's hoping weeklys are easier! Enjoy your day out with your mum.

Good luck today wolfee. Anyone else on treatment this week?

Made a little discovery this morning. I ran out of paraben free shower gel this morning and started using an Aldi kick start one (cheaper version of source) and was surprised to find it is paraben free! Woo hoo. Definitely going to check out rest of Aldi make up and toiletries to see if they have anymore ! X

Good luck with bloods katie.
Weeklies'? They must be gentler if they can do them more often. That has to be a good thing 😁
Hope you don't have too far to go to get to the hospital. X

Wolfee, good luck with treatment today.

Trish, glad you have your girls with you, visitors really help especially special ones. 😁

So this is my week of awesome before treatment 4.
I am taking my mum out for today. Shopping and lunch. She does so much for me in my bad week and picks up the kids. Nice to be useful and spend time together when she is not having to look at me with that worried expression. 😊

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Thanx for all the replies regarding illness and nursery. It is a tough one I really don't want him to miss out he's only 3 and loves nursery. I also think that you carry the chicken pox virus with you before the spots appear don't you so the children that actually do have them would have carried it for days beforehand so is there any point keeping him away afterwards?
I'm not in touch with my oncologist like most woman on here are I've actually only seen him once but I will make some phone calls in the morning and see what is best to do. Thanx again ladies x

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Hi AnnieA. I have a 4 year old in preschool. He caught chicken pox between surgery and chemo but I had it as a teenager so the doctor wasn't too worried. I am still sending him to preschool as there are generally fewer bugs around at this time of year (helped by being outside a lot ), it keeps things normal for him and gives me a break. I have already warned the primary school that when the autumn bugs start flying around (late September) won't be in. It also depends on how my white blood cell count is doing on Tuesday. It's very much a personal call but that's the way I'm playing it. Follow your gut feeling on this one. X

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Hi annie, it is a tricky one. Have you and your children had chicken pox? If you have all had it I'd probably send them in. If not I'd keep them off? Can you speak to your oncologist and see what they suggest? My oncologist said you usually learn to tolerate your childs germs as you don't normally catch everything they get but I'd be more wary with chicken pox etc xx

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Hi Annie. I have had similar problem with chicken pox at my sons school. They should not be at school of they have spots but not scabbed over. However they can be contagious before spots appear which makes it difficult to avoid. My youngest is 11 so does not tend to get as close as smaller kids do. He so far has not caught anything.
It's a difficult one. I suggest you chat to nursery and explain why you are concerned. See what they suggest.

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Treehouse, hope the garden is still in tact after BBQ lesson and you all enjoyed the yummy food.

AnnieA, I don't have children so can't really comment however, I have had this convo with a friend because we were discussing how it's impossible to avoid colds and sniffles especially if you have children because of school. I think if you kept them off every time a bug was going around the school would have a problem with missed time however, chickenpox that's a bigger problem. You could ask if the child could have lessons in a private room etc but again this may make the poor kid feel they have done something wrong?? It's a tricky one.

My personal opinion would be keep them home but not sure that is fair??? Soz not much help and I feel sorry for all of you who have the extra responsibility of caring for children through all of this. I struggle managing just myself. Well done all of you xxx

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Hi ladies sorry to crash in on your conversation with a random post, I'm just looking for abit of advice from any mums out there. Do we keep our little ones away from nursery/schools if we know illness are going around. Like chicken pox for example? X

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

I've been reading 'Foods to fight cancer' by Beliveau and Gingras. The big problem is with soy extracts and isoflavone supplements as they contain far higher quantities than in a whole food. The whole food itself consumed in moderate amounts, as consumed in the Asian diet, reduces the risk. πŸ–’As for cheese, I'm worse than a mouse πŸ§€. So I've gone for organic grass fed rather than give it up. X

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Reading between the lines it looks like soy is ok in moderation. I've cut out soya milk and yoghurt and just have tofu in a stir fry or similar. I drink almond milk now. As far as yoghurts are concerned, my favourites are the "coconut collaborative" brand (I've bought them in morrisons) and Alpro do an almond yoghurt which is a good alternative to having soya yoghurt. I think it's about keeping variety as there has been a tendency over time to increase soya products just like wheat and what we need is to get more variety in grains than just wheat. So soya seems to have a similar problem for being dominant in the diet when it should be moderated. Tempeh gets a good write up by Jonny Bowden as a nutritious fermented soy product.  But who doesn't love cheese? it's one of the hardest things to give up but I'll probably just have an occasional treat of it rather than have it regularly. Goats are more likely grass fed so I'll probably opt for that as a treat. I'm trying to gradually get diary-free until I'm cancer-free, then maybe reintroduce it as an occasional treat.

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Interesting so soy could actually be good? I've stopped my protein shakes they had high concentrated amounts of soy. I've created my own recepie that is: almond milk, raw organic pure coco powder, organic cinnamon, hemp protein (or pea protein) a date, banana and a splash of vanilla essence. It does taste a bit 'garden' but is fairly nice and an ok substitute however mixing it is not as quick and convinient as my previous powders.
I'm not really following my diet (hence my two stone weight gain already) however after treatment when I'm back at work etc I will crack down and go back to shakes for breakfast and lunch. At the moment I eat partly boredom and partly because I crave carbs and sharp tasting sweets and ice creams!!

I think I will relax a little and have foods that contain soy and maybe stop scanning ingredients but I will not have the highly concentrated amount of soy doing in shakes etc.

Also I Havant cut out dairy (one of my cravings is cheese) however I try and use almond milk at at home and Havant had yogurts. Is there a dairy and soy free etc yogurt that you've found and is nice ??

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

WolfEE, yes, the Google is a powerful tool and takes you off on all sorts of tangents!

Ive been quite curious about getting to the bottom of the oestrogen effects of soya, myths and facts and found this interesting article (recommended by Jonny Bowden).  http://radiantrecovery.com/soy4303html.htm

Mai7, yeah I saw that about the plague I spent ages reading in the end all about the oil, then the plague and then Victorian Medicean, then how they all had lead in wallpaper ............ how did we live without google can you imagine a question popping in your head having 2 wait for the library 2 open and then hunt through shelves and hope the book you pick has the answer!!!!!!
One thing I didn't look up was the 🌡I'm trying not but my fingers are itching !!!!!!!!!!

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Morning ladies! We watched a really interesting documentary last night on Netflix called "What the Health". A bit of an eye opener and confirms much of the research of Dr Jane Plant.

MJK, glad you got your cantaloupe, we got one yesterday but had been eating honeydew and galia before that which is still packed with nutrients but doesn't get the same write up for supporting the system during chemo (must be higher in folic acid than the others). Cantaloupe gets mentioned by both Dr Jane Plant and Johnny Bowden for helping toxic effects of chemo and radiation.  Sea vegetables like kelp also get a good mention for mopping up such toxins so I might get some kelp supplements.

WolfEE, Treehouse, the itching went away fairly quickly once the bandage was removed, whew! Yes, there is a circle of pin-prick scabs forming. I might do a dot-to-dot and see what picture I can make πŸ˜‚ I couldn't find a hedgehog emoji so here is a cactus instead! 🌡

I was really curious about the Thief oil so looked it up. Have you read the history of how it was named? it was added to scarves by burglars during the plague of London and they were able to burgle plague infested houses without catching it so it should be good enough to ward off mere cold viruses trivially! ☠

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Trisha, I would phone your Oncologists secretary as a matter of urgency and try to speak to him. If this Misswhatsit works , then why is it given in one health trust and not another? I suspect that your neutrophils are also on the low side, in which case the chemo will be delayed. I would really push the fact you feel so rotten there is no way you could tolerate the treatment, which would lower your immune system even further. I feel so sorry for you as you sound right mis! Sending positive thoughts, πŸ‹, and a very gentle hug. πŸ€—

I don't use it all the time, only when I remember, when I am paranoid or when kids have lurgi.
I completely agree with the hypersensitivity with smell.

Glad you are healing well Mai. Itching is annoying, do you have lots of little scabs where your hedgehog lost his spines? (no hedgehog emoji!!!!!!!!)

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Glad your healing mai7 but I bet the itch is irritating. The detoll spray is everywhere we have a few cans because our coop had on offer although the offer has ended now gutted really could have done with another shelf clearance.
I love Xmas king of smells this theives stuff has cinnamon in I think that must be what the festive smell comes from I'll check out the soap.
I'll have 2 be carful not burning the oil around 5 days ish after treatment that's the point my smell becomes a nightmare and I don't want 2 put off it. I have high hopes for it. ????

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

WolfEE, I know how you feel, when my man had a bad tummy I was really worried about getting sick. I just became obsessively clean, spraying dettol on door handles and stuff. I didn't catch anything though. We agreed that if he gets a cold then he'll sleep downstairs and we'll keep away from each other's breathing space as much as possible.

I took my my bandage off this morning as it was getting a bit itchy and all healing nicely.

Mine is immunity protective blend. I also got soap by living young . Hubby doesn't like it ,says it smells like mulled wine 🍷. I think it's festive. Clove oil in it I think.
It is strong stuff so don't get neat oil on your skin.

Thanks Treehouse, I'm on amazon now and have found some vaporisers for around Β£15 that's fine but all the Theives oils are around Β£30. Is this how much it normally is? I'm trying 2 find some with prime delivery so I can have it tomorrow. Anything is worth a try and it does sound good can't do any harm that's for sure.
Wound boots, Tescos sell the oil. I can't see it on holland and barret web site.

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

What a beautiful sunny morning it is ladies. About time too! β˜€οΈ  Thanks for the bravery medals πŸ…πŸ…πŸ…which I shall wear with pride. The procedure sounded quite minging in my description and looked quite minging to watch, but didn't hurt.  I fell asleep at about 9pm last night then woke up for about for hours from 12-4 drinking water and trying to get to sleep again. I heard the birds tweeting at 4am and stuck my head out of the window for the free oxygen boost!  Must be the buzz of the steroids! πŸ‘πŸ‘

Trisha, hope you can get the stuff MisyAngel recommended and it works for you. Can you get some on the chemo line as an emergency? Definitely worth a try. If you're not getting sleep you're going to get run down and it will affect your eating too. Sending big hugs all the way to Devon. πŸ’

Rosie, best of luck with your train journey and general exposure to **gasp** humans next week. Let us know how it is in the densely populated world!  I mostly just talk to trees and squirrels when I go out nowadays! 😜

Katie, have a lovely evening of tapas with your man. πŸ±πŸ›πŸ²πŸ¨πŸŒΆ

Trisha69 I really feel for you, I was given a mixture called miss tracy which was brilliant,  I only had one ulcer but it went really quick using that.  I think the being awake is the worst part as the more tired you get the more emotional I find I become.

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Awake every 2 hours since 10pm. NOT a happy Bunny 😞  Still got ulcers on one side of tongue, looks like indentations from my teeth.  Week 3 of antibiotics, countless mouth sprays and washes, just want it to go away!  6 days and counting to no 3 and then all this **bleep** to start again.

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

WolfEE, I'm thinking of wearing plastic gloves!! and will be armed with anti bacterial spray and wipes. Will def go off peak and told him I can't stay long as I need to leave before people come out of the offices. Also wanted to know who will be in the office and whether they/ their children have been ill. He suggested going for a coffe and I was like but there will be people in there. Perhaps when he sees how much I've changed he'll think a period off sick is a good idea

treehouse, sounds like you have the perfect arrangement!!
