Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Mai - I have bust confidence with it or without it! I can easily have a lop-sided day - if I've got a scarf on and even more so if I'm in a cardi or coat!

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Wolfee - what a disappointment to be told you can't take the new super drug - how frustrating for you. Did she suggest anything else for the hot flushes? I'm continuing to get them - not just at night but during the day more now too. Will the tamoxafen make them worse or improve them?

Wow rads on Thursday - good luck - you'll be fine - I think the secret is to rest throughout, drink plenty and moisturise from the start. I believe the effects are cummulative and for the first week and second you feel absolutely fine - coming into the third week is when the se's are noticed.

Good luck to your sister for her infills. A big day!

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Mai - the stage 2 are tricky - stage 3 even more so!! Yesterday for rads planning I had to lie on back lift both arms straight above my head outstretched and hold hands together - I would never have been able to do that 2 weeks ago!!

Misyangel - was it your surgery today?  If so, hope all has gone well and look forward to hearing from you very soon xx

Thanks WolfEE for the update on Treehouse - I was becoming worried that we hadn't heard from her today. Pass on my love to her if you communicate again xx

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Well done Rosie on your positive attitude - I was just the same, and I think it helps enormously. I too just wanted to get there and get it done. My problem arose when there was a delay between arriving and going down to theatre - during that time I could have run for the door and kept on running...! As you're going down first and early you won't have time to think.

Good luck and hear from you when you're ready xxx

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Rosie, wishing you all the best for tomorrow. Will be thinking of you all day with that long surgery. πŸ’—

MisyAngel, I didn't realise yours was today. Hope all went well. Let us know how you are as soon as you can.

WolfEE, that really sucks that the wonder drug clashes with Tamoxifen. Do they have anything else you can take instead? wishing you all the best with your radiotherapy and your sister with her infill. Hugs to you both. Please send Treehouse a big hug from me and thanks for the update. I though it as very unusual to not hear from Treehouse.

Jay, I just did my stage 2 exercises. I think I preferred stage 1. The outward stretches are the tricky ones.

Message from Treehouse ..........

Treehouse is still in hospital she hasn’t been able to post all her long attempts have failed the signal in the hoapital most be a bit poor.
She has been having heart scans and more blood tests today and now waiting on results again. At the moment they are trying to rule out a heart infection.
The ward she is now on is a lot quieter and the staff are in her words fab.
Treehouse says hi and she will post as soon as she can.

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Hi All, Mai so good that your up and out walking that’s very good going.

I had an appointment with oncologist today and she told me the wonder prescription that i got from my GP yesterday for an antidepressant that doesn’t make you gain weight, that would help With anxiety / depression but more importantly is used a lot to help stop hot flushes (I’m suffering with them a lot at the moment) the pill would interfear with the pending tamoxafen!!! So can’t take it. Gutted

So my 1st radiotherapy session starts Thursday also my sister who had the double mastectomy as preventative is having infills on thursday so a big day for us.

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Jay, the arm exercises were going well until I went to hospital yesterday which threw my routine and now I keep forgetting. Was supposed to start stage two exercises yesterday so I'm a bit behind! Oops. My movement is quite good though so not too worried.

You and your family will be in all our hearts and thoughts tomorrow.  Good luck lovely lady xx

Hi Mai - nice to hear you're up and taking small walks. How are the arm exercises going?

I had my prosthetic fitting today - I have to say the lady was extremely professional, very thorough and a true perfectionist - my boobs now look as though I'm 20 again! Can't wait to see what hubby says when he returns home from work this evening!!!

Hi Ladies, it's a quiet day on the thread so far! How's everyone doing?

Treehouse, how are you getting on? Have you been discharged yet? Sending hugs.

I got up late. My Mum came over and we went for a walk in the lovely crisp fresh air.

Coldcappers, do they wet your hair to the roots? My first did but second said didn't need to. My gut feeling is that it should be wet to roots to get best affect. I have quite thick hair.

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Completely agree Mishy. I am terrified that I survived chemo , chopped the ba***rd out and removed the other for good measure only to be done in by a bloody bug that antibiotics can’t whack .
I was sobbing on my gp on Friday I felt so ill and have done at some point daily since I got in here. This sucks.
Thanks for letting me moan folks x x x x

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Jay I'm waiting for the call for my planning app for rads, hopefully not too long went back to docs today re ear as it was still putting every now and then was worried if infection not totally gone it might come back, it's looking alot better so they gave me a spray to use but I was a bit shocked when she told me not to finish the antibiotics as it's proven 5 days normally does the trick but the helpline on sat said I must finish the course, I only have one day left so I'm going to do what helpline said I know it's a worry about the antibiotics crisis but it's not that often I have them it's only been this year twice because of chemo infections and I think last year I had some because of a lung infection I really try to avoid them as I don't want them not to work if I need them but I think on chemo it's been warrented!!!
It's quite worrying isn't it you would think that they would be developing new drugs!
Anyway treehouse glad they have found the cause, Mai I think you have every right to get upset this morning chemo was very challenging for you with hospital visits it has been for me too so I know how you would have felt when I got my infection last week I thought they were going to admit again luckily they were happy with the doc to give me the pills and treat it myself 😊

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Buddyfan, I oiled them nightly and wore nail polish throughout. No problems until chemo completed. So a bit shocked. Removed varnish for surgery for the first time. There is new growth underneath but still doesn't cover whole nail bed.

It doesn't happen to everyone so hopefully you will be spared.

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Good evening ladies - so I had the planning appointment today for rads and all went extremely well!  What I'm most excited about is I've managed to get 3 tattoos before turning 50!!!

For me the worse bit personally was the radiotherapist was a young man - and of course, I had to remove my upper clothes and expose my one boob and the scar!  Of course, he didn't batt an eye - he's probably seen far, far worse!

Oh yes and the lovely nurse assistant had to remove my earings, which were discovered once in position and half way through the CT scanner!!!

Tomorrow, I have my prosthetic and bra fitting - sounds interesting............!

Happy birthday rosie😘 it does make me 😑😑😑that they can’t do a gene test on everyone so that preventative surgery can be done. Let’s hope one day someone with a brain in government pushes for it. Love shi xx

Oh dear Daffodil - I know they won't do rads if there's any chance of infection so really hope it clears up quick otherwise you'd be best to wait until after xmas to begin - nuisance but rather safe than sorry.

Hi WolfEE - sorry to hear you've been feeling low and exhausted but pleased that you're on the way back up now.

17th January..... my goodness that's a long wait - if I were you, I'd speak to my bcn about it and see what they suggested.

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Yes Shi I would have had preventative surgery. I went to GP years ago but was told that as there is an adequate screening programme for bc I could have annual mammograms. But that doesn't stop you getting bc just picks it up earlier hopefully. In my case it was no use at all as I found the lump myself and it was already IDC.

Welcome home Mai, glad you didn't have to stay in hospital

Thanks for the birthday wishes WofEE, hope you don't have to wait until Jan to get the lymphodema sorted.

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Thanks Ladies. πŸ’— Hooray, I'm back home again. I'd hoped this mornings GP visit would result in antibiotics without going to hospital but GP referred me on due to raised temperature and fast pulse. All normal again this afternoon. Had some intravenous antibiotics and sent home with oral antibiotics for 5 days.  The good news is that they took blood tests and my neutrophils are now fully recovered to a healthy 5. No more bouncing around below the normal margins, now officially in the middle range of normal! Still feeling a bit rotten but at last now I'm just a normal person with a cold. (No comments!)

Treehouse, come on, give that body a talking to and get out soon. I'm playing elemental chill out and zen garden music to get your pulse rate down.  Can't believe your tooth caused all this. Xx 😬

WolfEE, lovely to hear from you and glad you have sought help for your low mood.  πŸ’— I burst into tears in the GPs office this morning when she told me she was referring me to MAU so now she wants me to go back again for help with moving forward. Some days it's just harder to pull yourself together after all you've been through and you feel like a wet lettuce for being like that!  Definitely worth seeing if BC nurse can help you to get an earlier appointment. Sending big hugs. Xx

Jay, how did today go? Xx

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

WolfEE, on my Moving Forward course the physiotherapist who runs the Lymphoedema service said as soon as someone presents/refers with possible lympoedema they put a compression sleeve on the patient asap to prevent it getting worse. Maybe worth asking BC nurse to speak to hospital physio or call physio yourself.

Relief for your sister treehouse I'm sure. Your Mum gave her the non mutated BRCA gene like I did to my daughter. Not that we have any control over it πŸ˜‚

We're still reeling from the fact that all three of us sisters got the gene.

Hope you get home soon.

😘😘😘wolfee havevyou Googled some lymphodema exercise videos on line? There might be something on there that could help you, are you not tempted to just turn up and show your bc nursevyour fingers and say does she seriously expect you to wait till jan, aren’t they always banging on about getting it seen to asap? Might be worth a call to your bc nurse tell her you want to show her to get her thoughts, worth a try. Love you wolfee πŸ˜˜πŸ˜˜πŸ’•πŸ’•βœ¨βœ¨you are lovely and sending you big hug too love shi xx

Hi Jay. I spoke to bcn who suggested that I get the practice nurse to take a look and see if I need antibiotics. One look and she said definitely! So on meds but if they don't work I am to go to a&e. Hoping for a quick result so no delays with radiotherapy.

Hope your planning went well today.

Sorry to hear about the hospital admissions. Get well Mai and Treehouse.

Re: May 2017 chemo starters

Hi all such a flurry of activity since I last logged on. Just reading through catching up now.
I’ve been busy working my mood has been a little low recently that and exhaustion I’ve been keeping myself 2 myself but I’m on the way up again.
Saw my gp this morning I’m starting an antidepressant that will help with my mood but more excitingly should help with hot flushes it’s called citalopram.
I’ve just opened my letter and I have my appointment date with lymphadema specialists 17th January!! My fingers will be like balloons by then but at least i have a date now.
