Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

Hi Bythesea, I've been waxing with no bother x
Member

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

Eeek my nails have never looked better or been longer! Might file them down tonight! Ok will do beard and moustache tonight then bed and give it an overnight chance of calming down and might try hair dye wed night after tattoos. Dog got shaved today and looks amazing 🐶 He might not be too happy if we get your cold weather Brrrrrrr!

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

Sorry I can’t help with waxing.

I haven’t got enough hair to dye, but whatever I do have before I go away will be coloured ... so in 8 weeks time.
I’ve bought some natural hair dye from the livebetterwith website - no recommendations but I just figured natural maybe kinder to my new hair.

In other news, the top manky half of one of my nails had just pinged off 😦

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

Lesley has made me have second thoughts with sensitive skin!!! I'm such a cheap skate I've bought leg strips and was just going to cut them smaller. Do you think the wax is thinner on facial strips??? And when can we dye hair????x

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

By the sea - good luck with moustache...I'm tackling it tomorrow 😂

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

Congratulations Lesley, treatment over...woohoo!!!
So so happy for you.
Stay warm...I'm indoors with heating on and duvet cover on, brrrrrrrrrr❄❄❄

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

Bythesea - you’ve made me giggle. Carefully with the wax, your skin will still be sensitive.

As for the weather ..... heating is on and I’m still freezing... roads were flooded this morning ☔️💦🌬💨🌊. Not happy!

Markings go one in the middle of the Breast bone, and one on each side under your armpit area.

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

Wrap up warm??? It's positively tropical up here. I've just bought sun cream and a fabulous sun hat ☀️
On the ferry after Herceptin jag and breast care nurse had a peek at my boobie which has a little weep from a stitch 😬 Seems to look good so hopefully all good for tattoos on Wednesday. Where do they mark???
Lesley huge congrats to you xxx. Sorry for the anti climax but when I we all meet up we can dance, toast, jump around and ring the biggest bell we can find 😜
Anadan good luck with pre op and Jc good luck with mammogram.
I'm heading home with moustache wax, wish me luck 😳Xxx

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

thanks anadan - I took a picture of my BP readings to show them in the hospital to prove I wasn't fibbing!

Internet and phone lines restored after having lost them for a while there!

wrap up warm everyone

Hurray! Lesley 👏👏💜 well done, you’re a star!! And use your wig in these extreme weather conditions, wear it out, you won’t need it very soon 😜

JC, hugs to you, hope you feel ok about your mammogram tomorrow 💕

HF 😂😂😂

I took the dogs for a walk in our beautiful forestry centre, the trees were making spooky noises in thewind ...

it’s a pre op asessment for me tomorrow Smiley Happy I’ve been taking my blood pressure at home for a few days to prove it only jumps up really high in hospital conditions 🤭

Have a good week evereyone ☀️

Aw, Lesley - what a marker in the pesky process we have shared. I am ringing metaphorical bells with you and sending all the love. Hunker down and stay warm today - there will lots of time to celebrate and mark how far you've come. Getting to know you has been such a positive out of a horrid time. You're a gold jumpsuit-wearing star. xx

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

Treatment complete!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾
Can’t quite believe I’m saying those words ... but very relieved I can!
TBH today was a big anticlimax, very like chemo. Because of the weather here various people hadn’t made it in to work by the time I finished, so I didn’t ring the bell 🛎 or go for a celebratory coffee with my old boss! But I know when I wake up tomorrow and realise I don’t have to dash to the hospital it will all feel real.
The weather really is bad, so I diverted into the OHs on the way home to make sure our new greenhouse was still intact ..... it wasn’t .... so spent 45 mins on the rain and high winds sorting it out ... note to self - wig + heavy rain = drown rat! 🤣🤣

Thank you to you all for getting me this far .... sending hugs to all as we get everyone else over the line 🤗🤗💕💕💕🤗🤗

This email gave me such a fright! Even though the wig is sitting on a stand pretty much next to me! (It's just some Uber newsletter thing...)

Happy Monday everyone!

What a dreary day 🌧☔🌫🌬
How is everyone today? Lesley do you finish your rads today?
I've a quiet day - don't think I'll go for a walk but I have a hygienist & my first post op mammogram tomorrow.
Wishing you all a happy Monday ☀☄🌈😗

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

Hello November team, I don't know if you have come across the brilliant Jo who runs abcdiagnosis, but she is organising 3 BC exercise retreats later this year. You can find out more about what's involved on Jo's website here: http://www.abcdiagnosis.co.uk/lifestyle/abcd-retreat/.

They are for all levels, including those who want to start/return to exercise safely and held in a beautiful part of the country. I am going to the October one and am really looking forward to it. There are dates in June, September and October. xx

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

Hi Otter, my hair is coming thru the same, i too had chestnut brown hair before and its coming through dark brown and grey.🤯
Member

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

Before my hair was chestnut but what's coming through is a mixture of dark brown black and grey but more grey 😱😰

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

I shaved my underarms as soon as I had the dressings removed as that was before chemo two weeks of growth and not seen water thought surgeon was going to fall over 👃🏓

I didn't say anything when renewed car insurance we only plan to fly to Guernsey for a few days for our 30th in June and as OH doesn't drive I didn't want to hire a car as they might ask too many questions but will try Saga as if I don't get some I can quarentee something will go wrong with the flights

Looks like it's going to be a wet and cold weekend😕😕

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

My hair is growing like I'm standing in a grow bag!!! Mostly in unwanted areas! What are people's thoughts on hair removing cream on side with no lymph nodes??? And what's the story on hair dye? I cold capped so have a full head but the bits missing are coming in with LOADS of grey 😬

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

Good discussion, Ladies 😀 so if I'm going to have node s clearance, does it mean it spread outside the breast or is it still within the breast? (Re travel insurance). I've heard good opinions about insurance with and euro tunnel insurance.
I haven't booked anything yet, still a long way to go ...

Bythesea, thank you for letting us know about the documentary, it was really good, positive 💞
I need all the positivity now 😀

Do you think it's too dangerous to shave underarm? I hate waxing or epilating ... Nothing grows there yet, anyway, so should be ok for surgery and then another few weeks Smiley Happy

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

Car insurance was the first question I asked. Breast care nurse said didn't need to inform them as it should effect my driving x
Member

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

Thanks Lesley that's what I thought x
Member

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

My car insurance renewed last month - I did it online and the only question was about medical conditions declared to the DVLA?? From memory.... 🤣
Member

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

On the insurance question my car insurance is up for renewal and I have read on the internet that I don't need to declare it. What as everyone else done.

Not worrying about travel insurance as we are running away to Cornwall for 10 weeks! Fingers crossed we will get some sun.

I have also told work colleagues etc that my treatment plan was chemo and MX, maybe to open with the info too.

Have a lovely weekend everyone x

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

Watching the program I realise there is an actual bell...i thought it was a metaphor 😀😀

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

I got my recent travel insurance with Insurancewith.
Was £30 for a week in Spain. They specialise in those with pre-existing conditions

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

Only away a week so back on the 3rd.
I’ve been very open with everyone right from the start ... probably over shared but hey ho!!
Member

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

Sounds like the same questions I had - I ticked it had gone outside the Breast as it was in 2 nodes?? I’m wondering if that’s right now??
I was with saga for my trip last year that I had to cancel .... they were brilliant. From memory, for me Portugal was around £80 and France was around £50

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

Thanks Bythesea for recommending the program. Just watched it and realised how we have all become so knowledgeable on a subject we never thought we would need to know so much about.

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

How long you away for Lesley??? A brew sounds good as long as I'm not back at midnight x. On the ferry back from ecg and heart still looking good :0) a big dod of superglue fell off boke!!! Looked like a giant scab but sonographer let me put it in his bin and gave me a hug so it can't have been that bad!
The sun is shining here so much that I bought new sunglasses yesterday and a ridiculous handbag. My first splurge since my steroid induced spree!
I have even told some of my work colleagues about mx. How has anyone else dealt with it???❤️

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

We're going to Turkey for a week at the end of May and have just taken out an annual travel insurance costing  £358 for myself & 2 daughters (OH has his own). We had to tick boxes saying I had been diagnosed for BC for less than 2 years, that it hadn't spread beyond my breasts and that I was on ongoing medication.

Lesley - champneys sounds exactly what the doctor ordered, especially with today's wet weather 🌧

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

We need a Champneys weekend meet up I think JC!!
Member

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

Otter I got insurance with saga - quite reasonable I thought. One of the few benefits of being an old bird!! I looked at annual insurance, but no one will even quote for it

My heating keeps cutting in on the thermostat - crazy!!

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

I should be having a wax today but I've a cousin staying and a bone density scan so cancelled.  They did say I would probably be more tender - and they wouldn't let me book a massage due to lymph nodes 🙄

Just epilated!!

I’m off the algarve - can’t wait.

I’m about 5 miles from the Chunnel - you could stop off for a brew on your way back!!!

And has anyone waxed yet???😬

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

Not ferry every day I've requested the hotel stay. Hotel is lovely it's on the grounds of the hospital. Did a recce on my lgfb course. Although my rad times are all around 5/6pm can't decide yet if that's a good thing or not. Holiday is 30 June heading for the ferry or Chunnel to France, so is my surgeon! Handy if I have any problems on way down. Not looked at insurance yet. I have annual cover, wonder how much it will go up when I disclose my diagnosis 😔 Where are you off to Lesley? Again I can't remember xxx

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

I haven't booked a holiday abroad as I thought it was hard to get travel insurance

It's cold and wet here might even have to put hearing back on 😞😱

Why is it also when I decide to go wig less as I was getting to hot it has now gone cold so l have to wear a wholly hat 😰

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

Bythesea - you will breeze thru rads I would have thought after all you have been thru!  I haven't felt any fatigue with the rads at all, compared to chemo it's a walk in the park.  The worse bit is the travelling and the fact that it is every day, but I got into the swing of it  - are you on the ferry every day??

I meant to ask you, when do you actually go away on holiday - I jet off on the 26th June ☀️ - you must be sometime around then??

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

The only person in the documentary I've met was the photographer 😊 Still to head to the beatson tho for rads. How tired did they make you Lesley?
Think the second episode is a different cancer.
Suns out here so wishing you all a relaxing wonderful weekend xxx

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

Thanks Bythesea for recommending that documentary. I have been nervous about watching much about breast cancer as it often made me feel worse, but that programme was brilliant. The tone was spot on - honest, constructive, appropriately hopeful, informative and reassuring. I loved it and would not have seen it if not for you suggesting it. x

Member

Re: November 2017 Chemo Starters

Glad I have raised a smile or two!!

Bythesea - just watched that cancer documentary - really lovely programme - wouldn't that have been useful to watch before all this started ... so reassuring .... or is that just with the gift of hindsight?

Off to make some chilli sausage rolls and then watch the second episode!!

Thanks so much for the love and support everyone. I had the best night's sleep I have had for ages and it felt good.

Then I got to start my Friday with a mental image of a gold-suited Lesley shattering a bell as she finishes rads. It just gets better!

How is everyone doing? Sending happy weekend vibes to you all, especially Anadan as she prepares for the next step. We're here for you, always. xx
