Re: October 2018 Chemo starters

Thanks for the warning Lou, I expect this will be me!
I’ve been waking any time from 2-4am and really struggling to get back to sleep. I blaming it on the steroids. Last dose today so hoping I’ll crash back to “normal” tomorrow.

Re: October 2018 Chemo starters

Anabeel and Ellie’s mum and all others who’ve been feeling rubbish - sorry to hear it and hope things pick up.

Lou45 I have a port not a picc but it’s lovely, blood tests and transfusions all without pain.

Badboob - top yoga story!

I have to say last night and this morning I feel completely normal and would not know I’d had chemo 2 days ago. I’m sure it’s going to come and bite me in the arse big style now I’ve said this...

Re: October 2018 Chemo starters

Hello all you lovely ladies....
Sounds like you're all doing well... 💗💪🏼💗💪🏼💗

Lou45... The picc line is so much easier for chemo and blood tests, although the NHS no longer provide the Limbo cover unfortunately, it's one of the things they stopped issuing in a bid to save the NHS money! x 💪🏼💗

Kateday... I do my own injections too -I'm quite proud of myself as I have a very 'sensitive' disposition!! Haha! x 💪🏼💗

ElliesMum -hopefully you won't have the horrid sickness on your next cycle...your team seem to be in the ball! Will be thinking about you x 💗💪🏼

Mrs fingers... Glad you're feeling well.. One down now! x 💪🏼💗

Badboob.. Hope you didn't have any major mishaps at your yoga class... Made me chuckle tho! x 😂💪🏼💗

I've been ridiculously unwell for a couple of days -ended up with a sky high temp! I got told off for not ringing the helpline immediately but I was so 'poorly' I didn't have the energy to even sit up!
I had to go to the chemo unit yesterday, I'm neutropenic (which is expected at this stage) but they're expecting my blood count to go even lower so I have to keep my eye on my temp as infections take hold very quickly when you're having chemo!
I had intravenous antibiotics....luckily, I didn't need to stay in hospital, they sent me home with a week of oral antibiotics and this morning I do feel a bit better!
When I felt so ill I was adamant I wasn't having any more chemo...now I feel a bit better I've changed my mind... I might just go back!!! 😳😳😳
(Sorry for waffling, but thanks for listening!)

Have a lovely day everyone and take care x

💗💪🏼💗💪🏼💗💪🏼💗💪🏼💗

Elliesmum

Thanks 👍, they scanned my vains in my arm to check it was good enough and said about a hickman if the arm wasnt any good but it was okay so at least i wont have to worry bout being a pin cushion anymore it was starting to get real painful 😥,

I can relate to you and sue with the hair it was a nightmare but since i had it shaved off monday its been great no more molting everywhere and no more prickly itchy scalp and the best thing is not having to faff about with it in a morning like today just put a hat and off out i went was great 😁,

Take care stay 💪

Hi ktk

Thanks again

Re: October 2018 Chemo starters

You’re very brave, Mrs fingers, injecting yourself with the GCSF. I made my husband do it!🙈 I found my face was very puffy all over from the steroids along with red cheeks. This seemed to go away a few days after I stopped taking them. Well done keeping the nausea at bay!

Good luck with your PICC line, Lou. I don’t have one but have a Hickman line and (after the initial discomfort passed) I’m really pleased I have it. As ktk says, it makes having bloods taken and chemo administered much easier! 👍

I’ve seen my oncologist for a review and am feeling more positive about my second cycle. They have changed my anti-sickness meds, so that I will now be taking Emend, Ondanestron, Dexamethasone, Cyclizine and Halperidol. Goodness me, it sounds like a lot! Fingers crossed it does the trick and sorts out the vomiting and nausea this time.🤞 For any other ladies that suffered with sickness in round one, mention it to your team as I was really encouraged by their proactive response. 💕😘💜

P.S. Sue, I can definitely relate to your hair-shedding concerns. I feel like I’m leaving a trail of stubble (had shaved to number 1 a week ago) whenever I move! 🤦‍♀️🙈😂 I hope you enjoyed your yoga!

Re: October 2018 Chemo starters

Hi Liu. Don’t worry about the Picc Line. It will not restrict you at all. The only thing is you have to cover it in the shower. I was given a Limbo cover but others just use cling film. You can get some really pretty covers on eBay, which I needed with short sleeves in the summer but you may not as you will have longer sleeves. You will be given stockingette. It needs flushing each week. Some people go to hospital for this but my district nurse came and did mine at home. They also take your bloods through the line. You will be glad you had it done!! Kxxx

Re: October 2018 Chemo starters

Last night I felt dizzy and a headache started. I dug out my hypnobirthing album and set it to play. It worked a treat, headache melted away and had a good nights sleep - well until a small child appeared at 3am anyway.
Woke up with a fuzzy head, sniffly nose, swollen runny eyes ?! And just feeling a bit zombie like. Took all my anti nausea stuff (was told just take it as it’s your first chemo, even if you don’t think you need it...domperidon and emend) and after a cup of tea and a pint of water I felt human again. Staying well hydrated is clearly important!
Got red rosy cheeks after the steroids. Who needs blusher anyway?
I had to inject myself with the bone marrow stuff at lunchtime, which was surprisingly easy and painless even for a wimp like me.
Had a short walk around the block with a neighbour and I’m now collapsed on the sofa with a cuppa.
No nausea yet which is what I was fearing most.
Great tips on this thread. Hang on in there everyone...

If the rest of the class know your situation and you feel comfortable, just be natural and if it does come out, just blame it on the cleaners 😜

Hi Everyone,

Hope you are all coping with this crappy crap we are dealing with together!

Now, this is going to sound like a really weird thing so brace yourselves.........

I feel well enough to try my Yoga class today, BUT my hair has started to drop out and I am really worried about ‘moulting all over my mat! I can’t make up my mind if I should take a cap or just let it happen. Downward Dogs are going to be interesting!

Hi juzcooper, hope everything goes well for you on 7th Nov. I found that wearing seasickness bands during chemo and for a few days afterwards helped with the sickness.

I've got 2 cats and I was just told not to let them lick me. I shouldn't think there will be a problem with your dogs xx

Re: October 2018 Chemo starters

Hi all. I start my chemo 7th Nov and have joined the November thread. However, I've spent an hour and a half reading through this thread to get a heads up on what to expect after my 1st and 2nd cycles. It's a fantastic thread and have got some great tips for upcoming possible side effects for which I thank you. Sorry to hear those of you who have not had a good time and had to spend time in hospital. You have all given me inspiration 😘 I just wanted to ask a question. We have 2 dogs who I love dearly and give me great comfort. I know that the chemo basically abliterates your immune system and you have to be careful during certain periods. Do any of you have pets and have been advised to avoid them through these times due to possible infection. Sorry if this is a daft question 😕 xx

Re: October 2018 Chemo starters

Hi everyone, I started chemo today -first of 3 FEC, then it will be 3 x T.
I’ve been really anxious about all the possible side effects but nothing much has happened so far - except feeling a bit spaced out and dizzy. Obviously it’s early days though...
I’ve got a portacath fitted which made the infusion much easier (no more nasty needles - I had 2 blood tests and 4 injections/cannulas last week, mostly on the same day so totally fed up of being a human pincushion).
I’m trying the cold cap and it was nowhere near as bad as I expected.
Look forward to hearing/sharing chemo experiences x

Re: October 2018 Chemo starters

O I hope the district nurse doesn’t keep you waiting to long
I told them I would inject myself , then thought what are you saying , so told my husband he has to do it 😂😂
I’m glad to read this sickness does pass and I will be sure to tell them that it hasn’t been great
I’m also glad to read being tired and just sleeping is normal the nurse yesterday said just stick with normal life routine
Well since 9pm last night I have slept for few hours woke had drink been sick took meds and pretty much continues in that pattern
How can one feel so tired after all those hours sleep all be it broken sleep xx

Hi Ladies. Do listen to your bodies. I found that I had 4 days or so after FEC where I just took to my bed. Hardly ate anything. I found sparkling water with a splash of cordial most palatable. However, after the first few days, a week at most, I was up and about as normal. Don’t forget everyone is different. Take it easy and look after yourselves. Much love Kxxx

Re: October 2018 Chemo starters

Good luck with round two, Lou. You can get through it! 💗🤞💪

Kateday, I felt sick for a week. Started feeling a little better from day 4, and nausea had largely gone by day 7. (I’m on FEC.) I really struggled to eat or drink, but eventually found that I could stomach sparkling apple juice and that really helped! Drinking water was horrible for the first week for me. It does get better. I’ve felt fine the rest of the cycle. Gearing up for round two on Friday now! 👍

I’m thinking of you, Aneeebel. You’ve had a bit of a rough time so far! Fingers crossed your tinnitus subsides soon - not what you need right now! 🙈

I hope your distric nurse comes soon to put your mind at ease, Fiona. Good to hear your husband is working from home so he can be there for you. 💕

Love and gentle hugs to all! 😘💐💜

Hi Aneeebel

I hope you're feeling a bit better today. I had to have a nap yesterday afternoon but it worked. We just have to listen to our bodies and if they say rest, then rest it is.

I'm having a bit of a wobble today so hubby's working from home just to be there for me.

Kateday, keep sipping the water.  I'm on Akynzeo too with dexamethasone, but both of these I have to take one hour before chemo. I've got domperidone as anti-sickness pills but I've not had to use them yet so couldn't tell you if they're any good. I've still got taste buds so far, but I'm only on day 5.

I'm waiting for the district nurse to come today and stressing about that, what if they don't turn up etc.

Thinking of you all and hoping you all have a positive day, big hugs 🤗

A daytime nap sounds like an excellent idea, Aneeebel! Be kind to yourself and take things gently. I hope you feel a bit more steady on your feet and less tired tomorrow after a good sleep. 🤞💕

Great work, Fiona, getting through your first few days and managing a long walk. So pleased to hear the side effects have been kind to you thus far - long may it continue! 👍🤗

Very brave, Lou, going ahead with the shave. Good on you! 💕💪

Welcome, Kateday, to this fabulous group. The ladies have been so lovely and supportive of me (and of everyone here). It has helped me immensely! Thank you all! 🤗😘💕

Thanks for the tips, Shi! I will definitely ask about the anti-sickness meds’ you mentioned. Food tasted horrible for a week last time (continuing longer than the nausea) so I’m super encouraged that you managed to avoid losing your tastebuds. Fingers crossed there is a combination of anti-sickness meds that will work better for me in round two. 🤞🙈

Goodnight and hugs to all! Xox 💜❤️💙

I feel the same, as my first session was last Friday so these lovely ladies this month are at least two weeks ahead of me. We'll all get there though.

Have you got sea sickness bands? They've certainly helped me and I've not needed to take the antisickness pills. And water, just keep drinking the water.

Take care 🤗

Lou, make sure you take the injection out of the fridge 20mins before you need it. Pinch a good inch and holding the flesh go in at a 30degree angle. You do get used to it I promise. Kx

Glad you feeling good i think i only had to rough days but again i think i made it worse by not drinking, i drinking like a fish today ready for tomorrow,
My son had said he will shave my head if i want him to i am thinking about it for today because my head realy irritable at the mo and everytime i go to gently rub or scratch it clumps of hair come out 😮,
I was a bit nervous about the injections but i managed to do them myself i put an ice pack on my tummy first then did it 😖,
I will keep you posted if i brave the shave,

Enjoy your day ladies,

Re: October 2018 Chemo starters

Morning Lou

I feel surprisingly well and I'm shocked by that to say the least. I haven't really had any nasty side effects, just slight nausea and headache for a couple of days. I've not needed to take the anti-sickness pills, I just make sure I drink at least 4 pints of water a day. I drank that much while I was receiving the chemo, I think it may have helped.  I do seem to have a slight tingle in my fingers on my left hand today and my scalp feels a bit weird too, so maybe the FEC is working. I was beginning to think they'd given me fake stuff as I wasn't suffering much 😜 . I should start on the injections tomorrow, when the district nurse turns up, I don't want to do that bit!

I'm not looking forward to the hair loss bit, just like the rest of you. I hope it's quick. My hubby has agreed to shave it for me once it starts coming out. I don't think I could face going to my hairdresser 😢 It's going to be traumatic enough as it is.

It's a beautiful day outside, ladies, I hope you're all going to take advantage of it. I'm hoping to go for a walk later when hubby's home.

Stay 💪💪 and safe. Big hugs 🤗

ElliesMum, be brave, you can do this. And we're all here to support you 👭 You've done the first one and got through it, so well done to you. 🏅Each cycle we go through is one step closer to the end and being well again.

I don't think my lump Humphrey is too pleased about his FEC treatment, he feels a bit tender today and I'm only on day 4 of cycle 1. I can only hope that FEC is doing its job 😉

Today's the first day on my own, as hubby's gone to work, although he says he'll only do a half day. I don't want to waste the day so have got a list of jobs to work through (or not depending on how I feel 😜). Does everyone else get tired quickly? I'm in bed by 9 every night, having already fallen asleep on the sofa 😀

Take care lovely ladies, stay safe and warm 🤗

Re: October 2018 Chemo starters

Sar_ah I’m sorry you got such an early wake up greeting (even if it was super cute)! Daylight savings is a bit rough with little ones. If it makes you feel any better, we were up at 5am this morning too! 🤦‍♀️ (Sadly my in laws live 3 hours away, so a child-free night is like gold dust!)

I have my second cycle on Friday, and even though I feel well at the moment I’m starting to feel a tiny bit anxious about it. I guess I know what’s coming now, and I really don’t want to feel so horribly unwell again! 🙈 I see the oncologist tomorrow for a review. I have felt well since about day 8, but really did feel absolutely terrible for the first 3-4 days. Is there anything I should be asking to change this time? I had Emend from the outset, but sadly it didn’t seem to make much of a difference for me! 🤷‍♀️ Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
