Re: September 2017 Chemo Starters

Strangely there was no snow up north. -3c so very cold and frosty though and lovely blue skies. It was a Christmas themed wedding. We even had turkey dinner and Christmas crackers on the table, so snow would have been magical. Might have stopped all the guests getting there though!

CK thanks. You have fitted a lot in this week! I hope you've had a rest today.

Cathysid did you have snow at the wedding? I bet the wine tasted lovely! What a pity about eyelashes! They'll be back soon. My thumbs have cracks in the skin at the end too. Painful!!

Great to start hearing about people who I’ve followed starting to come towards the end of this chemo journey. Best wishes for an uneventful last round x

Re: September 2017 Chemo Starters

Hi all,
Fairydust - 🧚‍♀️ glad the Xmas spirit is still strong! My girls make me listen to our Xmas cd on repeat every morning - I love it!

I’ve been up to Northumberland again this weekend for my sisters wedding. It was lovely! Had more wine in the last 3 days than in the last 3 months, and my cold has cleared leaving me a bit croaky and coughing up rubbish but feeling much better than I have for the last 3 weeks!
On the down side, my bottom eyelashes all departed the morning of the wedding, my eyes are crusty and sticky every morning but not infected or sore like conjunctivitis, my thumb tips have cracked and split, and my fingertips are numb! One more chemo to go though, on Thursday, then I’m done!

Ali, glad you are home. Phew.

Hope you are all over side effects and feeling good, cx

Glad to hear from you CK. sounds like a good week apart from the yucky taste, it’s horrible when nothing tastes right, I’m getting enough of that on FEC 🙄.
Heavy snow here this morning so a day of Christmas decorations and Christmas pudding steaming for us.
Hope everyone has a good Sunday and stays warm x

Re: September 2017 Chemo Starters

Hi ladies
Missed you all for a few days as been doing things on my good weeks and daughter gome from Uni.
Weds, went to see Bananarama..a blast from the past! They were fab! Managed a little boggie too! It was realky windy when we came out jf rhe Apollo and I was so worried my wig was gonna come off. Security weren't going to let me take my water in which had lemon in ginger in for rhe horrible taste which is still there but when I mentioned treatment they were so different and even wished me well on the way out too. It actualky bought a small tear to my eyes but I told my daughter it was the wind!
Thursday , my daughter and ne went on A BBC course at the local centre, rhanks to Cathysid for telling me. It was a nice 2 hours giving us information about exercises and post surgery bras and chicken fillets SueW:D
Friday went on a counselling course with my daughter which benefittwd us both as she went to uni after my first treatment and I just wanted to make sure she was feeling ok inside.
Today I went to local footy for corporate lunch but was too cold to watch the match. We won 3.2 which was a bonus as my friends business sponsored the matchball. And tonight Ive been at work.
Not had chsnce to catch up wirh threads but hoping everyone is coping welk. Ali so sorry to see you were in hospital but now your out enjoy your family and the comfort of your own bed. Hopefulky the next one will be more manageable as the drug used to your body.xx

My taste is still yukky. Nothing tastes good. I have a vaginal bacterial thing so need to take anti biotics. Its not thrush after all. Not too unpleasant but just paranoid of the smell:0

Lots of love.xxx

Mrs meow the only reason i have my own room is because i have Diaorreah!! Only once a day which we all know is SE of our treatment but it is enough to get me a room. Last time i was in after first fec i was in with everyone else and yes the bathroom was gross! I felt like i was in a hotel last night - warm, comfy and quiet! Home today I hope 🤞🤞

I hope your temp has come down and you are feeling more 'normal' soon too xxc

Re: September 2017 Chemo Starters

Ali am crossing everything that you get home today - I only got one iv antibiotic but then they decided my bloods were clear so didn't need any more - am glad you have your own room - for some reason the medics decided that my neutrophils at 14 meant I could brave it out on the ward despite the count only being high from the injections - and the ward bathroom was like something out of trainspotting... needless to say once the oncology link staff caught up with the ward round I was sent home pretty smartly even though my temp was still high - that's why have been doing everything to keep out of hospital this round and hopefully will have made it by the time injections finish for me tomorrow. I hope your cold is a lot better in time for you to enjoy the so called good days before the 20th - is especially important this month.
All the best to others too - it has been a rough week for some on this thread, take care all xxx

I am still here mrs meow. Another lot of antibiotics in the morning and if temp stays down then home with oral antibiotics i hope 🤞🤞. Did you get antibiotics when you were in?

The stay has been fine as i am in my own room and my cold and chest are feeling better thank goodness. No matter how much we say we rest at home there iszalways something to do but todsy i have done nothing except read, watch tv and crosswords! So that has probsbly helped too.

Hope everyone is doing ok and gets a decent sleep xx

Re: September 2017 Chemo Starters

My scar is around my nipple too, I have 2 what I like to think of now as dimples on the inner side, looks ok and in clothes youveiujd never know lump was 2.2cm plus margins. Funny because I was trying on a new shirt today and noticed my sentinel node scar, that’s quite long over a inch and quite noticeable, not really noticed it since it healed, but then I’m not in the habit of getting dressed in front of a mirror!
Glad you’re back Runnerbean x
Get well soon Ali x
Let mum look after you Ruth x
I got some flowers from a girl I went to school with, today. I haven’t seen her for 20 odd years, she was part of my friendship group but we were never close. She had med up with a couple of the other girls, who still live close by where we were at school, last weekend and heard my news. Ironically it turns out that she actually lives only about 20 miles from me now. If funny how this malarkey brings some people back to us and others that we thought were close drift away!
Happy weekend all 😊

Yes it's so clever what they can do. Everyone was surprised that they cut round the nipple so I wouldn't have a scar on my cleavage, not that I wop my baps out much these days 😂🤣😂🤣😂

Re: September 2017 Chemo Starters

Sorry you have been in Ali - we should both have run around in my woods out here in our nighties to keep cool! - I have been fighting my temp down this time also but have managed to keep it around 37.2 as had such an awful admission to hospital last time I really dont want to go back. Have you escaped now? After my admission last time with temp of 38.4 and fast heart rate it settled after a couple of days so I hope is the same for you - they never found why it was high. I really hope you feel better soon. Wow Cathy a surgery plan at least you and the family can prepare now there is a date - one thing you could consider is asking the physio for a proper bra - I had to get a compression one as i have had problems with the tissues post surgery in July and although it took weeks to come it is high under the armpit where my surgery was and no other tops were doing the same job - it may be an option. Do you still have more chemo to go this Wed? Hope everyone else is doing well - day 10 for me but the injections continue until Sunday so the pains are interesting...manageable though so the baking plan continues... Happy Friday everyone (I hadn't actually realised it was the weekend haha!)

Re: September 2017 Chemo Starters

Meesh my consultant said he moved some breast tissue around too to he said they do that to try and keep as natural a shape as possible x

Meesh73

Re: September 2017 Chemo Starters

Hi Cathysid, mine was on my cleavage the lump they removed was 18mm but took 26mm to get good margin as I had quite a bit of dcis. I had 3 nodes biopsied which were clear. I am a b-c cup so not much to play with and it was my smaller boob too (of course it would be, wouldn't it?) They cut round my nipple to remove the lump so no scarring on boob but they did move breast tissue around and it looks ok. I have a couple of tiny dents and there us still some brown marking on it (had op Aug 7). It did really swell up though and was in the severely bruised category (according to bcn). The op is ok just keep an eye on the swelling as it's difficult to know what's normal. As with chemo if you worry about anything call the bcn.

Re: September 2017 Chemo Starters

The asda ones are very comfy. I absolutely detest the prices that M & S charge for post op bras. And then i read a post from a lady who wotked for them for years and when she went off with BC they didnt pay her. So.much for their wear it pink campaign!! Its all about the money THEY MAKE not what is going to Charity. Sorry will get off my soap box now xx

Re: September 2017 Chemo Starters

Thanks, will get myself underwear shopping!
My lump was 2.5cm and on the lateral side of my boob. There is no lump there now so I don’t know how big a piece of tissue that they will remove! I’m only a B cup so not much there. I’m not worried at all about scars but just hoping not to have a very misshapen boob! I suppose it’s just a matter of accepting it is what it is and being grateful the cancer is gone. Sue - great that you don’t need a reconstruction.

Re: September 2017 Chemo Starters

Hi Cathysid, front fastenening is definitely a good thing. I wasn't advised on bras at all apart from that they shouldn't be under wired. I found the m&s one fairly late on and it was good. Can't comment on the Asda ones as didnt realise they did them. I tried to use a sports crop top at first but found getting it over my head difficult. So would definitely recommend a front fastening one with good armpit clearance. I also use some nice ones I bought in Tesco which are not front fastening but are padded nonwired and have good armpit clearance I think they were £10-£15 for a pack of 2.

SueW

Re: September 2017 Chemo Starters

Cathy also Asda do post surgery Bra front fastening 2 pack for £15 they didn’t have them in my local store but I ordered on line for in store pick up x

Depending where abouts on your boob your surgery is and your boob size will depend how you feel about reconstruction
Mine is underneath my boob although I have a long scar and 5cm tumour was removed because I was a d cup I am not left with a big hole or excessively misshapen I know I still have some swelling but I am hoping it’s stays similar to how it is now so I won’t feel the need for a reconstruction op x I currently got everything crossed xx

Re: September 2017 Chemo Starters

Cathysid, M&S zip front opening bra or sports bra life savers post operation as you can’t life arms up to get those bra top things on, they also have good arm clearance for node clearance scar and are worth paying for, I had 2 and used one to sleep in. Get a couple of sizes up so if you are 36, go for a 40 as you will be a bit swollen, but the M&S ones are good and still fit ok when your swelling goes. Hope that helps 💕💕shi xx

Re: September 2017 Chemo Starters

Hope you are feeling better, Ali, and that they let you out soon!
Lets hope all those neutrophils do their job and get rid of that infection for you - the I’ve antibiotics should really help.
Big hugs,
Cath x
I Had my first pre surgery appointment yesterday. My surgery is provisionally scheduled for 10th January so here comes the next phase! Hoping nothing delays my last chemo next Thursday. I will be having a wide local excision and lymph node clearance. Forgot to ask the surgeon if I will get any reconstruction at the same time or at a later date. Need an ultrasound to locate my marker and heart scan before end of December, oh and I need to buy a front open crop top bra type thing too.

Morning Ali, hope you slept well. Also hope breakfast is tolerable..

I absolutely can't believe your high neuts number, you're clearly doing something very right, but also clearly your temp was also too high, well done you for ringing in and getting yourself clinically seen to. You are going through the wringer and I continue to wish you well. Please though don't stay too long. Hope they get you home today! X

Re: September 2017 Chemo Starters

Hi SamH,

im on the same - docetaxel, carboplatin, herceptin and pertuzamab(my team call it TCHP)

Ive just put a post on the thread on "top tips and practical support" forum about side effects etc. ITs not a common protocol but there are a few of us.

My diagnosis is oestrogen positive, her2 positive, G3 stage 2-3.

Im having my 6th tchp next week. I've survived and my cancer has shown complete radiological remission so it's definitely been very effective for me. The first chemo was the roughest! Keep a diary so you know what to expect next time round. Side effects are day 3-8 usually. My side effects got less severe with each round, but I got tired ear each time.

good luck x

Re: September 2017 Chemo Starters

Sam what i have found after PTH ( no carboplaton though) is that on day 3 i got leg pain and it was troublesome. If you get it you will need cocodamol or something similar. They told me it was nerve pain so you need to take painkillers regularly. You also need to keep an eye on temp though as it does seem to stay up. Ring the helpline if you are concerned about anything. I have also had a very yucky mouth and cant taste anything. I have used difflam mouthwash regularly and sucked sweets or ice lollies. Day 10 today and my tongue and mouth feel better. I have had a few bouts of diaorreah but nothing constant. I got tablets from my chemo unit incase the diaorreah became a problem. Make sure you drink plenty. Water tastes horrible so i have been having blackcurrant juice.

Hope this helps Sam. I hope you have few side effects xx

Hi FairyDust...I did wonder if I that was right as I have never seen the abbreviation on my my December thread?! I’m ER - and HER2+ so have been started on chemo first. I’m on Perjeta, Herceptin and then Docetaxel & Carboplatin. They have told be they are going tough because of my age more than anything. If anyone has this combo then please let me know 🙂 xx p.s sorry is ridiculous o’clock— the steroids are keeping me awake! 🙈

How SamH87, I am sorry not to able to fully answer your question as not sure what PTCD is, but I know I'm

not taking anything that could be abbreviated to this, to my knowledge. 🙂

What's your diagnosis details, might help other ladies to understand if they share the same diagnosis as you? I'm TN though. Do hope you get a response. Apologies again.

Oh Ali, I'm so very sorry you're back in  Casa NHS, I can't believe it!  One can't win on chemo can one, damned with high neuts and damned with low neuts..I really hope they get you stable enough to go home to your own bed tomorrow.

If you can smuggle some neuts to my hospital chemo centre by by FedEx marked Urgent - for Fairydust only, not to be shared with anyone else- that would be great..I will treasure them forever. How high are your neuts and how high was your temp if you don't mind me asking?   At least you're in the best place you can be for your infection, but scary how fast they can come on.

Sleep well. My thoughts are with you.

Re: September 2017 Chemo Starters

Well i am a guest of the Nhs again tonight? Have not really felt great since my first T last week but got over the pains and then got a cold!! I really needed to get past my boys birthday yesterday! Today i had a temp and a fast heartbeat so had to come in.

Can you believe my WBC's are high. A sign of fighting infection the doc said. Nothing obvious but probably chest as i have a right cough which has only developed since yesterday!

So here i am in my own room, with a tv having Tazacin by iv. Hoping i can go home tomorrow but not counting my chickens.

Hope everyone who had chemo today is ok

Fairydust i could have given you some neuts xx

I had first lot today so any insight into what I’m likely to be in for over the next few days would be great!! Xx

Re: September 2017 Chemo Starters

Grateful for your thoughts Meesh, Shi, Chaffinch,  thank you. I will let you know what my team suggests, I think they're going to arrange some sort of meeting to discuss next steps but they best not admit me to hospital,  as I feel fine other than excessive sweats and temp but no fever.

I shouldn't have gone to Ikea yesterday. A lady in the restaurant at the table behind me  had a terrible hacking continuous cough and a snotty nose she kept blowing, now my nose is snotty too. But had flu jab so ought to be ok.

Hope you're all having lovely evenings. I'm eating pasta in sauce and garlic bread. Have an appointment with my surgeon tomorrow morning to look at my surgery scars, must floss and mouthwash tonight and tomorrow so as not to smell of garlic all over him!

Re: September 2017 Chemo Starters

I asked about what I could do re: boosting neutrophils when I went for chemo on Tuesday as my bloods were 1.55 this time and our cut off is 1.5. They have decreased each time so was worried about next time. Anyway, the nurse said that there's nothing you can do. Neither diet or rest will effect the count, she also said it could bounce back up the very next day. I was told if mine were low next time they'd give me injections, but Fairydust if you've already had them I don't know what to suggest. It's so annoying though.

Re: September 2017 Chemo Starters

You have to take the honey on it’s own 1stcthing in morning on empty stomach and last thing at night, so don’t know if it will work if you mix it. I am sure it’s That and the steak, I know I had a reduction in dose to 80% but I am sure the Life Mel honey and steak are helping, I was 3.15 on wed and the one before that 4.29 so even though it’s down a bit it better than the 0.01 I dropped to on round one. Love shi xx

Re: September 2017 Chemo Starters

Is there anything that you could mix the honey into to make it more palatable? You’re not supposed to heat it though. Worth keeping up with as good a diet as you can manage and avoid too much contact with crowds etc.

Re: September 2017 Chemo Starters

Grrrr, Chemo delay again for me. So no first T till next week maybe.

Neutrophils 0.6 this time and that's with 5 steroid injections. Although nothing recommended by the nurse, she'll speak with my oncologist team tomorrow and then call me to advise what I ought to do. More injections or something else.

If they don't suggest anything stronger or alternative, I will take the Bio-strath and also vitamin D again maybe? I think it actually works. I can't abide the honey unfortunately.

Well done to all those on T and thanks for sharing your side effects. I feel equipped to cope when I finally do start.

In meantime, still got decs to put up. The trees are done but living room still needs doing. Haven't bought any Bailey's Irish cream yet..My traditional tipple whilst doing the decs! What's your favourite?
