Re: September 2018 Chemo Starters.

Hi lovely ladies,

I had great news from my surgeon today: the chemo got rid of all the active cancer cells and all that was left for him to remove were a cluster of DCIS plus 7 lymph nodes. I won't need another op and am cancer free! 😻🙃☺️ I will still need rads, as I am triple negative, but that's OK, I can deal with that. Also had a great comment from someone at my local health shop: apparently my hair 'really rocks'! No one has ever said anything like that about me 😂🤣, so it's been a good day. 👍

We're off to see family in the Midlands for Easter. Hope it stays sunny. Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Re: September 2018 Chemo Starters.

Morning ladies,

Hope you are all having a good week.

Gaby, Ooh yes would definitely mention to your surgeon today. I had numbness (it still is numb but I think that’s permanent now) but no stinging. Worth checking out but probably it is just your body recovering and healing. Are you getting results today too? Hope it all goes well ❤️💪🏻

We are viewing a house today that looks lovely but needs a bit of work 🙈 We’ve got so much junk too - it’s difficult to know where to start!

It’s my last day of working full time and then a lovely long weekend off. Weather looks good too ☀️ Hope you all have a fab Easter.

Sending love and hugs

Hi Everyone,

2 weeks since my op and I'm much more uncomfortable: my scars seem OK, but the area around my armpit is numb, I get a lot of uncomfortable stinging there and the movement in my left arm is not great. I'm seeing my surgeon tomorrow so will mention all this. I think it's all very normal, but I'm feeling rather tired and low with the constant discomfort. 🙄

Lisa: gosh, you've got a lot on! Don't overdo things at work. My memory is shocking and that really bothers me. I wonder why we're getting this now?! Have you seen a property you want to buy? We've been in our house for 18 years and the amount of junk we've accumulated is ridiculous. I had a clear out last year when we had the loft done and chucked out loads of stuff. Quite fun, once you get going 😀.

Little Pixie: I'd love to see a photo of your ham! My daughter is very keen on prop making and is starting a Technical Theatre degree in September, so I'm quite used to seeing odd bits around the house (we have a lovely spare brick wall she made 😉). Fantastic you've booked your holiday. I think we all need a good break and some sunshine after this last year.

It's lovely and sunny here in London. Hope you're all getting a chance to enjoy the sunshine. 🌞

Hi ladies,

Im just over a week post op. My right breast feels like a pumped up balloon 🎈and my bra a straight jacket 🧥  I had ANC so that is sore but numb when I touch it.

GabyF glad you’re doing ok-I too have done some soul searching re:work. I’m a trained teacher but worked in a support role in a secondary school prior to my diagnosis in August 2018. I was actually going to teach a bit from September but never went back-tbh I’m not sure it’s what I want to do and will seriously consider my options in due course. I’ve thought about volunteering too GabyF.

I’m being a good girl with exercises too 😜 I’m getting a bit bored of sleeping on my back!!

My mouth still feels rotten and I’ve a bitter taste, I hope that clears soon.

like you I’m amazed at those of you who have returned to work 👍🏼 I’m just about managing to get through a proper routine for the day-feel a bit down at times too-I’m feeling terrified about returning for my pathology results in 2 weeks-thinking the worst, wish I’d quizzed my surgeon more post op but was totally not with it! 🤪She did say the op went really well so I’m taking that as nothing too terrible was seen..but who knows until the pathology report..anyway I must try to get out and enjoy the sunshine-we’ve a conservatory Which makes me feel like I’m in a tropical country on days like today ☺️☺️🔥☀️Bye for now

If the surgeon said it went well that is v  hopeful ... also out of it when I saw him but it was OK . Good luck x

Re: September 2018 Chemo Starters.

Good morning ladies,

Hope you are all having a lovely weekend.

ALittlePixie, fantastic news that you’ve booked 2 weeks away over the summer holidays. Tenerife will be amazing 😎

Good luck with the upholstery training and the papier-mâché ham 😊 need to see photos of your finished masterpiece xx

We’ve just put our house on the market so we will hopefully be moving soon 🤞😱 We had originally planned to put house up for sale in January but that went on hold after my diagnosis. I was hoping to leave it a bit longer before we put it up for sale, give me chance to recover and settle in to things, but hubby has different ideas ha ha  🙄🙈 Not moving far but the last time we moved was 11 years ago and we now have so much stuff to clear out! Will keep me busy at least!

I’ve also agreed to work full time next week (just for a week) as a couple of people are away ... will be a bit of a shock to the system but hopefully my lack of memory won’t be too bad! Does anyone else get stressed about things that wouldn’t normally bother them? I have turned into such a worrier.

Enjoy your sunday - hope the sun is shining 😎❤️ Lisa xx

Re: September 2018 Chemo Starters.

Hi everyone

It's glorious up in Cumbria again today. I can't quite believe we've had so much sun, especially whilst it's the school holidays!

Lisa - so pleased you had a fab time in Newcastle. Hahaha about nearly falling asleep. I'd be the same! It must be strange not having your girls at home during the holidays. They'll be enjoying time with your mum. Eve always goes for a week to her my mum in law's in August. She loves getting spoilt!

Paula -  hope you're  doing ok. Thinking of you.

Aley - keep being kind to yourself. It will be really sore, but keep doing your arm exercises every so often as they will help keep movement and stop fluid building up. I do remember those days well tho, so I understand how uncomfy and sore you are. Utilise cushions in bed if its getting too boring sleeping on your back. I promise it gets better.

Gaby - I reiterate what I've just said to Aley. Keep being kind to yourself and utilise cushions!!! You do right trying not to think about results etc. It's so difficult tho. I think I'm a born stress head some days. It's fab you're not getting as many hot flushes. I've never tried acupuncture. If you do, you'll have to let us know how you get on.

Work & volunteering - I do both and have done for some time now. I love the freedom of volunteering because it means I'm not as tied. I still make a commitment to hours per week, but there's not as much pressure. I currently am training to do antique upholstery in a castle and it's all voluntary. I give my time and I get paid in skills. It's a brilliant arrangement and suits me even more so now I want to go back to work. I'll start back just one a week and build from there. I also make wire jewellery  and sell at local markets, although I have no motivation or the concentration to make anything at the moment, so it's on permanent hold at the mo. I'm just going to try and get back to my upholstery for now. I've been going in and doing bits already which helps my head space. I'm currently still making a paper mache giant ham for a display table at work!!! 😁

My news is we've just booked a 2 week holiday in Tenerife for the summer hols. We've not had 2 weeks together since Eve was born, so I'm really looking forward to it. I guess I'm a little nervous too, but I'll get over that once I'm there and everything is fine. Oh, and I went to the physio for my chest, neck and shoulder pain and I've got some exercises to do. She says it's all nerve and muscular pain from all the surgery, chemo and rads.

Right, off to do more of my ham whilst Eve is making a parrot mask for herself!!!

Enjoy the beautiful weather xxx

Hi ladies,

ALittlePixie, I had a lovely night out in Newcastle thanks although I nearly fell asleep in the 2nd half of the show 🙈 😂 Hope you are enjoying the Easter hols with Eve. Now I’m back at work my girls have gone to stay at my Mums for the holidays ... my house seems really quiet!

Pulapula, hope your bloods were ok for your last chemo and you have finally finished whoo hoo 🎉🥂

Gaby, hope you enjoyed your walk with your daughter yesterday. I’m trying to go out for a walk more too but I can’t get any of my girls to come with me 😂

Good luck with finding a new challenge - sounds very exciting. It definitely does get you thinking about what’s important after a diagnosis.

My memory is also shocking ... I’m not sure if anyone has noticed at work but I have forgotten most things 😂 I also seem to struggle with simple tasks - common sense has completely deserted me. Much to the embarrassment of my daughter when I had to ask someone for help trying to pay at a ticket machine 🤪

Aley, pleased you are recovering well after your op. Ahh waiting for results is awful ... try not to worry (difficult I know!) ... good luck for next week 💪🏻❤️

It’s been a gorgous day here in Northumberland 😎 ... I’m enjoying a glass (or two) of fizz as I’m not at work tomorrow 😜🥂 Cheers ❤️ Lisa xx

Aley, I forgot to say good luck with your results. I'm seeing my surgeon next week. Waiting for results is nerve wracking and I'm trying not to think about all that too much

Fingers crossed we will both be OK! 👍🤞❤️

Re: September 2018 Chemo Starters.

Hi Aley,

I was really relieved to hear that you're thinking about not returning to work. It would be a huge change for me and it's nice to know I'm not the only one thinking along these lines. 😍 Teaching is very rewarding, but I am very worried about returning to the stress and heavy workload. I'm also concerned about the physical side of my work. Right now the thought of carrying or even cuddling very young children, being unintentionally bumped on my boob 😣, and all the other lovely things like nappy changing 😂, really fill me with dread! In theory, as a manager, I should be able to opt out of most of these physical tasks, but I know that in practice this won't always be possible. I have looked at quite a few volunteering options and found a couple that involve mentoring young people (Prince's Trust) and helping parents with their children's mental health (Young Minds) that look interesting. I also considered doing something at my hospital, but I'm not sure - I might need a break from regular trips there for a bit! What sort of volunteering are you looking at?

Had another rubbish night. Sleeping on my back or right side, but I have to wake up to turn carefully and feel quite stiff in the morning. 🤨 I don't seem to be getting quite as many hot flushes anymore, but am considering having some acupuncture to sort this out properly. Has anyone tried that?

Re: September 2018 Chemo Starters.

Hi everyone,

Just over a week since I had my op and finally had a shower yesterday 🚿😂. It was soooo nice! My arm has a few numb patches and my breast still feels tender (and it's still a beautiful blue 💙), but I've got much more movement (am being a good girl and doing my exercises regularly). Sleep is still a problem, but then I can't remember the last time I actually slept through, must have been last summer before I had my diagnosis?!

I know several of you have now gone back to work, which I think is amazing. I will have to wait until at least September, as I need to have rads and recover from that. I'm actually mulling over my options right now. I definitely don't want to go back full-time and am dreading the high stress levels of my job (I'm a nursery manager). I'm in the very lucky position not to have to work, but I need to have something to challenge my mind (or what's left of it - is anyone else struggling with short term memory? Mine is dreadful 😂). Instead of going back to my old job, I'm thinking about volunteering for a couple of charities, which would enable me to use my knowledge and experience, but free me from the old stresses. I'm really not sure which way to go with this right now. Have any of you thought about a career change?

Pulapula: I hope you're able to to have your last chemo soon. Any delay right at the end is so frustrating, but you're almost there. And as you say, it's nice to have some chemo free time with the kids. 😍 I realised the other day that now is the first time since September that I am not having to take any medication and it's so nice. We've all had so much stuff pumped into our bodies - I'm sure it will take quite some time for us all to feel completely normal again.

Lisa / LittlePixie: my hair has gone into overdrive and seems to be growing like mad. 🤩 My daughter strokes my head whenever she sees me, as she loves the feel of it. Maybe that's what is making it grow? 😁

We've got lovely sunshine here in London. 🌞 Going for a walk with my daughter soon. Have a lovely afternoon, ladies.

Re: September 2018 Chemo Starters.

Hi ladies.

Just thought I’d say a quick hello before bed. Still got one more chemo to go as my platelets count was too low to go ahead last week. So back on tues for bloods again. In some ways I don’t mind as my kids have been off for Easter hols so it’s nice not to be having treatment. Need to go ahead soon though so I feel well for centerparcs in 4 weeks time! Plus I want my picc out too.

Gaby - fingers crossed for your biopsy results.

I havent completely lost my hair but I have got a receding fringe so not much hair at the front but some at the sides! I did venture out without a wig when I just looked like I’d had a GI Jane cut, but not any more. I was lucky to have a wig gifted on a Facebook group last month and I love it although it does get uncomfortable after a few hours.

Alittlepixie - enjoy your papier-mâché tomorrow!

Better go to bed. Night night ladies.

Hi everyone!

How is everyone at the mo?

Jacqs - have you heard anything about your final op yet? I understand how you feel about your aches and pains. I've got a date with the physio on Tuesday too because of the pain. My radiology Dr advised me it was due to the radiotherapy. He gave me a chest x-ray to rule out anything else and it was thankfully clear. Try not to push your body too much. My body def tells me if I'm doing too much. It's good you're getting out and about without your wig now because it'll make you more confident about your hair. I love mine being so short now. It's so soft too. Fab news you've booked your hols to St Ives. We're hoping to book something soon. I'm desperate for a holiday.

Lisa - I proper laughed at the Barbie pic you posted! How was Newcastle? I ventured back down to Yorkshire to see my family, so that was nice. It just exhausted me!

Gaby - lovely to "meet" you. Your hair is coming on great! I'm so happy your op went well. You'll have to let us know re your biopsy results. I'll be keeping everything crossed they're clear.

I still have another week together with my Eve whilst she's on half term. We're randomly making a paper mache ham joint tomorrow!! Its for work.....we're doing a Victorian banquet table display!!!

Hope everyone is well. Lots of love as always x

Re: September 2018 Chemo Starters.

Hi lovely ladies,

Thanks for all your kind thoughts. Had my lumpectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsy on Tuesday and everything went well. I was first up on the surgery list, so didn't have much time to sit around and worry. I was home by 3pm, had a sleep then some lovely dinner (I was starving 😁) and actually felt surprisingly OK. Have been taking it easy since then and am now off pain killers. Just have to wait a couple of weeks for the results of the biopsy. Fingers crossed, margins and lymph nodes will be clear. I was quite nervous about the surgery, and the anaesthetic in particular - I suppose it's the fear of the unknown. But the hospital staff were very reassuring and kind which really helped. All done now anyway. 🙂

Lisa: I think you look far more beautiful than barbie! 💖😍 Children do come out with the funniest things! I don't have a wig. My hair is growing, but I haven't been brave enough to venture outside without a hat. I've told myself that it's still too cold for that anyway 😉. My daughter thinks my stubble is cool 😂😎, so perhaps I'll brave it once the sun is out properly.

Jacqs: I've also had a lot of aches in my legs following chemo. Oddly enough the beautiful DVT stockings I'm having to wear post surgery seem to be helping a bit with that. Maybe it's the extra warmth or improved circulation? I was also able to stop my injections a few days early, which seems to have reduced the hot flushes and might also have affected my legs? It's all guesswork for me really 🙄. Are you able to take proper breaks at work? Be kind to yourself and don't overdo things!

Ahh Jacqs sorry to hear you’ve been getting severe aches and pains. I am definitely getting more aches since chemo but they aren’t too bad and are not all the time. Maybe you are doing too much - you need to give yourself time to recover 😘

Oh no - just what you needed to hear 😬 don’t let them put you off - I’m sure you look fab. I haven’t ventured out without my wig yet - I’m not brave enough. Not many know about my diagnosis so I’m sure it will be a bit of a shock to everyone 😂

Told my twin nieces (who are 4) recently about my wig and Isabelle asked if it was ‘like this barbie doll’ and took her hair off and Bethany said ‘I wish I could take my hair off’ 😂

Hi Ladies,

Sorry i’ve been very quiet the last couple of weeks.  I reckon it was a shock to the system going back to work 🤪

Gaby I do hope everything went well yesterday & wish you a speedy recovery from surgery.  I’ve been thinking about you 😘

Aley I also hope you’re doing well although it’s still very early days.  Keep up with the exercises ladies because they definitely do help xx

I’m still waiting for a date for my final op.  I hope it’s soon.

A Little Pixie & Lisa - you’re both looking great & I love the hair pics.  I’ve been out a few times now without wig but still not feeling confident about it.  Maybe that’s down to 2 little girls whose conversation I overheard - they were trying to decide if I was male or female.  1 decided I was a girl but the other one said I couldn’t be cause I had no hair 😂😂😂.  Out of the mouths of babes & all that... I didn’t think I looked that bad!

My update is that i’ve booked in with a physio because i’ve been getting some severe aches n pains the last 2/3 weeks.  My GP says it’s all muscoskeletal & nothing to worry about.  I have seen other ladies on the forum mention similar issues - have any of you Sep ladies been affected by this.  I wondered if it was because of the bisphosphonate treatment or if it’s just remnants of chemo? Hubby seems to think i’ve developed an allergy to work - who knows, maybe he’s right!

On a more positive. It’s, we’ve just booked a holiday to St Ives Cornwall in September.  Something to look forward to.

Hope you’re all doing well.  Xxx

Nice to ‘meet’ you too 👋 ☺️ - so lovely to put a face to the name.

Ahh yes the hot and cold thing ... such a pain! As if we haven’t got enough to deal with 🙄

Love the hair ... short is so much easier! I’m hoping to ditch the wig in the summer - just want my hair to thicken up a bit as it is still quite patchy on top.

Hope you are back back home and taking it easy Aley ❤️

Love to everyone ❤️ Xx

Hi Lisa

Your hair is growing brilliantly. It's so nice to finally "meet" you. Yeah the hot flushes are rubbish. I don't like the night time one's. I'm really struggling to sleep due to getting too hot, then getting too cold, then constantly getting up to pee! I cant remember the last time I slept thru. I find the Starflower has helped tho.  Its good you've not many hospital visits now. My mammogram will be due in June. Its strange how fast time has flown!

Here's me and my hair!!IMAG6495.jpg It's growing well but seems to constantly change colour. Seems to be settling on an ashy blonde/grey. I like it short so I'm gonna keep it around this length. It's just so easy!

Enjoy Newcastle xxxx

Hi Dawn,

I’m taking tamoxifen and having a lot more hot flushes - not looking forward to the summer months! Especially with my wig 😜 I’ve not heard of Starflower supplements so will give them a go - thanks 😊 I’ve not got many hospital appointments now ... I’m feeling very neglected ha ha. I’m having a check up in 3 months and then yearly mammograms starting in July (year after my op).

The Moving forward course sounds great - it definitely helps to talk to others who understand ❤️

Hope you have a fab weekend 😘 Lisa Xx

Re: September 2018 Chemo Starters.

Morning everyone

Aley  - good luck today. I'll be thinking of you and do please let us know how you're doing when you can. Be gentle with yourself.

Gaby  - good luck for Tuesday. Like Lisa said, it's more the tightness and discomfort rather than pain, but I guess it depends on what surgery you're having. The exercises are important, so do what they suggest. I did little and often and it helped, altho at first it is difficult. Have they mentioned post op support bra?

Lisa - enjoy your weekend in Newcastle. I'll have to Google Rhod Gilbert. Me and Stu had date night in Manchester last Friday seeking Amy MacDonald. It makes all the difference doing stuff like that.

I'm still on my Herceptin and taking my Letrozole like a good lass. The hot flushes are crappy but I'm taking my Starflower supplements again and I reckon they're helping with SEs.

I went on a Moving Forward course and I found it helpful. It was nice to realise other people feel the same as me after the hard core treatment finishes. I found talking to others helped more than anything.

I had my heart scan (cos of the Herceptin) last week and I've not heard anything so I presume it's fine. I've got my bone density scan (cos of the Letrozole) in a few weeks too, so I'm still busy with hospital appointments. Having Breast Cancer isnt as simple as people think...it just seems to be ongoing, but to the outside world I've had my mastectomy, implant, chemo and rads so I must be fine now! Heyho.

Right, I'm spending lots of hugs and love for everyone.

Love

Re: September 2018 Chemo Starters.

Good luck for Tuesday Gaby ❤️ Are you having a mastectomy or lumpectomy? I had a mastectomy and I wasn’t in too much pain - just needed paracetamol (despite having stronger just in case). It was more the tightness /movement in my arm that I struggled with so keeping up with the exercises as they are important. I didn’t drive for 3 weeks.

Great news on the good response to chemo ... sometimes medical people don’t think ... you go over and over what they say and you are right they do make a huge difference. My gp told me to ‘prepare myself for the worst’ after my operation ... I thought my consultant was keeping something from me for ages 🙄

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend. I’ve got a rare night out with hubby in Newcastle on Saturday - seeing Rhod Gilbert (hubby’s birthday present).

Big hugs ❤️ Lisa xx

Hi lovely ladies,

We've all gone rather quiet here. I hope everyone is OK?

I'm preparing for my op on Tuesday. Am a bit apprehensive, but will just have to steel myself and get through it. I'm hoping I won't be in too much pain afterwards and that they don't find anything too awful when they analyse the tissue. Am also wondering how long it will take me to recover fully. The nurse told me about 4 weeks...

Re: September 2018 Chemo Starters.

Good morning, everyone,

I've been a bit quiet lately, just too much going on. I saw my surgeon last week and was told that I had had a "partial response" to the chemo. He couldn't tell me whether the tumour had shrunk and said something about the structure of it possibly having changed. It wasn't a very helpful explanation and I felt a bit low afterwards. Since then, however, I have checked with my BCN and she told me that there had been a "GOOD partial response" and that this almost certainly means that the tumour has shrunk! Also, this is apparently the most common outcome of chemo. I will know more, once they've done the surgery and have sent off the tissue for further testing, but really, why couldn't the surgeon have told me all this!?Smiley Frustrated These small words make a big difference! The other good news is that I will only need day surgery, so will be in and out within c.6 hours on the 2nd April.

Lisa: it was our daughter's 18th birthday last week. We didn't do balloons, but I put together lots of embarrassing photos of the past 18 years. I don't think children are ever too old for a bit of fun on their birthday, especially if it involves cake. Smiley Wink

I am so sorry to hear that your friend has had this worrying news. It can't be easy for you to see her so anxious and the thought of someone you care for possibly having to go through all this rubbish that we've all endured, must be very unsettling. Hopefully she is ok, but if not, at least she's got you to be there for her.

Pulapula: I felt the same way back in January, when the end of chemo still seemed ages away and everyone else appeared to have moved on. However, that last session will come along sooner than you think. Enjoy your holiday at Centre Parks and remember, you are actually almost done with chemo! Heart

Little Pixie: I've got a "Moving on" workshop booked for June and am hoping this will be useful. I will be very interested to hear whether you found your sessions helpful. I've also booked myself a few sessions with a life coach - not something I've ever done before, but I am so confused about what I want to do work-wise, that I felt I needed to talk through my options with some "neutral".

Aley: So glad to hear that you are now recovering well after that spell in hospital - what lousy luck to have got sepsis right at the end. But congratulations on finishing chemo!! Smiley Happy

Have a good day/week, lovely ladies Heart

Re: September 2018 Chemo Starters.

Morning ladies,

Pulapula, treatment can feel never ending at times but you will get there! Pleased you are nearly at the end of chemo. It’s a great milestone to reach and a trip to Center Parcs is a perfect way to celebrate. I went to the one at Sherwood Forest last summer before my chemo started - we had a fab time.

ALittlePixie, great idea to keep yourself busy with seminars. How did it go yesterday - do you find they help? I signed up for one at Maggies Newcastle but they’ve not got back to me with dates yet 😞 Hope your trip to work went well - have you got a date to go back?

Aley, fantastic news about your last chemo 💪🏻 but crap that you ended up in hospital with it! Typical!  Pleased you are back home now - every day now you will get better ❤️ Enjoy your trip to Belfast.

A friend of mine has a mammogram today as she found a lump a few weeks ago! Hoping and praying it’s nothing - it’s so worrying to think that as I’m hopefully finishing my treatment hers could be starting!

Its my eldest daughters birthday on Friday (she will be 15) so I’m off to try and get organised with banners, balloons and a cake - not too old for balloons and banners hopefully 😂

Take care everyone ❤️ Lisa xx

anyway we’re off to Belfast for a few days at the end of the week, I’ve never been 😊 but I reckon it’ll rain!!

take care & lots of love 💖💖

Re: September 2018 Chemo Starters.

Hello!

Hope everyone is keeping well.

Pulapula - I didn't realise you still had a bit of active treatment left to go. Your final chemo beginning April will fly by. I had my picc line out and it healed really quick. My chemo nurse said not to bathe for a few days, but I'd be perfectly fine after a week to swim once it had healed. Double check the 3 week that they've advised you. You'be done right to book Center Parcs, it'll be a lovely break for you.

I'm keeping myself busy going to seminars! I went to one yesterday called "Health & Wellbeing". It was interesting and had workshops and talks on complementary care, mental health, fear of reoccurance etc. I'm going to another on Tuesday called "Living With & Beyond Cancer". That covers more the mental health side of things which will be interesting. In June, I'm going to a 2 day event called "Younger Women Together" which are for women aged 45 or below. It sounds really interesting.

I just figured I should keep myself informed especially since my Herceptin injections don't finish til December and I'm stuck on Letrozole for at least the next 10 years!!!

I've got a busy week ahead. Monday I'm in work for a catch up session, Tuesday is my seminar and Friday I'm off to Manchester for date night....we're off to an Amy MacDonald gig, so it'll be a late one. I'm usually in bed by 9.30! 😉 I'm so looking forward to some time away with Stu feeling like us again.

Right you lovely lot, I'm off to have a little rest. I'm all headachy today.

Sending lots of love to everyone xxx

Hi ladies

I’ve not checked in for a while as I was a bit down that a lot of you had finished scrubs treatment and I’ve still a way to go. At least now I feel like I’m getting there..,

Helen - congrats on Hawaii and wedding x

Gaby- I am due to have my final chemo on 4 April and didn’t realise I’d need to keep my picc wound dry after removal. I’m off to centerparcs on 3 May and want to swim. Any advice on when I need the line out to be recovered. They like to keep it in for 3 weeks after chemo but that might be tight for swimming?

My rads should then start in May so I should be finished by June!!! Not the few months I thought it would be when I was diagnosed on 8 Aug....

Re: September 2018 Chemo Starters.

Hi ladies,

How are we all doing this week?

Gaby, hope the mri showed that the chemo has blasted the little 💩 💥🥊 Have you got a date yet for surgery? How you getting on with the running?

Jacqs, hope you had a lovely few days in Harrogate. How’s work been this week - hopefully not too tiring.

ALittlePixie, work has been ok thanks. Feels odd to be back - almost like the last few months have been a bad dream! Well done on the exercises / yoga - my fitness is definitely improving as the weeks go by. My fitness was shocking after my last chemo - just walking to school was exhausting!

Eyebrows / eyelashes are starting to come back - whoo hoo. Didn’t realise how much I missed them 😂 I’m starting to look like me again - just a GI Jane version.

Got a check up with my oncologist on Wednesday - not really sure what it’s for and how regularly I will see her from now on or if that’s it 😬

I’m off to Edinburgh tonight with hubbie and my 3 girls for a few days. We are meeting up with friends so will be lovely to catch up with them and just have a wander round. Think snow is forecast this weekend though - should be fun 😜

Take care everyone. Lisa xx

Hi everyone

Ooh that sounds fun Jacqs, have a super time in Harrogate. I'm so chuffed you're getting a little break after being back at work for a few full days. You must be exhausted.

Keeno  - huge congratulations on booking your wedding and also about your margins being clear after your surgery. Its all so positive and these next few months will fly by.

Gaby - hope the MRI results are good next week. Let us know. I think it's great you're doing your Pilates and gonna start running.

Lisa - that's fab you're back at work too. Has it been ok? How's your hair now?

I had a little jog up the lane a few days ago. It felt good to tire my body with exercise, even tho it wasn't very far or fast. I could probably have walked quicker! I'm having another go at my yoga class tmoz too. I have a lot of aches and pains around my neck, shoulders and chest so hopefully it'll help. My hair is definitely growing. I keep putting on my Grow Gorgeous serum and it seems to be working. My eyebrows have made an appearance too....darker than they were so they're a little surprising!

Sending love to everyone. I'm determined to get on here and write a little more often.

Love, D x

Re: September 2018 Chemo Starters.

Hi All,

Lisa - I wouldn’t worry too much about your hair at this stage - it’s still early days.  Someone said it’s good to brush it every day as it encourages growth ??? Maybe worth a try.  If not, there are serums you can buy to help stimulate growth.  I’ve got about 1/2 cm - not enough to go without the wig just yet especially as it’s turned so cold again 😬

I’ve just done my 2nd full day at work + 2 1/2 days this week - it’s been pretty tiring so next week only  going to do 2 or 3 1/2 days.

Gaby - as of tonight, I’ve only got 13 injections left to go.  Good luck for your MRI results this week.

Well tomorrow we’re off to Harrogate for an overnight stay.   Couple of hours around a trade show, then the rest of the afternoon to relax - maybe little bit of shopping followed by nice food.  Shame it’s so cold - will need to dig hats back out.

Have a good week everyone xxx

Re: September 2018 Chemo Starters.

Hi everyone,

I've got aches and pains too, mainly in the chest/breast area. Nothing bad, but just enough to make me worry a little - so it's really comforting to now that you're all having the same issues. Although I have restarted Pilates and am going to give running a go (bought some trainers a couple of days ago!), it is going to take me some time to get properly fit again. I think I tried to do too much today - walk to the hospital, loads of household chores and a slightyl too elaborate dinner, and now I'm really tired.Smiley Frustrated I had my MRI scan today and will get the results next week. I'm really hoping that there is very little left of that damn tumour, fingers crossed.

Keeno: how wonderful youre getting married. I'm sure you will look stunning whatever length your hair gets to.

Lisa: I've got about 0.5cm of growth on my head, eye lashes are great, eye brows are coming back (though they look much lighter than they were) and, sadly, the hair on my legs is also growing Smiley Wink

Jacqs: thanks for sharing your pre/post op tips on bras and arnica. I seem to be getting better with the injections and am usually only getting very small red marks around the injection site, rather than big bruises. I now have less than 30 to go, so like you might actually start the count down. Yuo must be below 20 now, which is great. The end of this particularly lovely treatment is in sight!

Have a lovely weekend, everyone.

Hi ladies,

Jacqs, Hope you’ve had a better day at work today and you aren’t suffering too much. So far I’ve been ok but I’m not doing a full day and I also sit at a desk so not much activity either 😂

How is everyones hair coming on? Mine is coming everywhere apart from where I want it! It is coming through but I can still see a lot of bald head shining through! My hair was thinning on top before treatment and I know tamoxifen can cause it too so worrying that it’s as good as it’s going to get 😞

Hope everyone has a lovely week. Lisa xx

September 2018 Chemo Starters.

Hi All,

It’s lovely to hear how everyone is doing.

Lisa - I hope this week is going ok for you back at work.  I’ve just done a full day but have come home with terrible backache & aching feet ( i’m on feet all day at work ).

Keeno - congratulations on your upcoming wedding.  So good to hear positive news.  I think the aches and pains both you & Lisa mentioned are a common complaint.  I’ve had exact same thing and breast care nurse has reassured me that it’s normal - we need to keep moving and eventually it’ll ease.  Our bodies have endured so much and now just need a lot of tlc.

Gaby - glad you’re healing after picc line issues.  Isn’t it bliss to be able to have a soak in the shower after getting them removed.  Simple pleasures 🤪

Aley & Gaby - I had surgery before chemo.  Double mastectomy & recon.  I did take arnica tablets before and after surgery - I was informed it was perfectly safe.  I now use the cream for my bruises - both on my tummy where I have bruising from daily injections & where I had my central line removed as that also bruised badly.

On bra front, I went for crop top / sports bras that I could step / wriggle into as I couldn’t lift my arms above my head.

A Little Pixie - good to hear from you again and so pleased your rads are all finished.  I think we’ve all got similar issues with regards our level of fitness.  I too am trying to get back to cooking real food and I ‘ve started walking a little more, but it’s going to be a slow slog getting back to my pre-chemo fitness level.  Main thing is we’re all headed in the right direction after a very tough 8/9 months.

Take care lovely ladies 😘

Oh went to see my hairdressor last week to show her my smoky grey fuzzy growth and my white patch at front! Great idea we put some of that root powder on it Loreal  colour spray or powder sorts it out a treat for a couple of days....my eyebrows are growing back well though better than before I think! Eyelashes not so at minute!

I started my bike training today and yes it took my mind off things v well!

Ahh wow - Hawaii - fantastic news Helen. Congratulations ... very exciting and will be so nice to focus on something other than the last few crappy months. Have you been dress shopping yet?

I’m paranoid about all aches and pains too  ... I’m convinced it’s somewhere else and that it just hasn’t been found yet! It’s so hard not to focus on every little thing but I’m trying to stay positive. I’m hoping work will be a good distraction for me. We’ve all come on a long way 💪🏻 We've been through so much since our diagnosis and we should be very proud of ourselves. Hopefully your wedding plans will be a lovely distraction. Good luck with starting rads and your injections ❤️ Lisa xx

Re: dRe: September 2018 Chemo Starters.

Hey all WOW there's been lots going on! All very positive I see which is great news.

My 2nd surgery to get the margins went well and yah margins were clear at last! Had full node clearance and there was another node and a bit affected so I get extra rads on my armpit and above breast as extra precaution.....had my radio planning and 15 rounds starts on 19.03!  I also get my first zoladex injection and exomestane on 19th and starts daily I am also worried about SE's!

So we booked a holiday 21.05 I'm off to Hawaii.......to get married!  We thought it was about time with all thats happened.....

Back to work on phased return once radio finished.

I have lots of aches and pains not sure whats caused them...chemo, picc line, surgery or menopause symptoms! I am still paranoid that this is a sign it has returned elsewhere.....I am looking forward to moving forward programme to help me get over the stuff in my head!!

I have also been doing lots of walking and yoga had to stop running again with sugery but starting cycling next week as signed up for a 37 mile race on Dartmoor in Devon in June!

So well done to those getting out there running and walking.

Much love to you all

Hxxx

Re: dRe: September 2018 Chemo Starters.

Morning ladies,

Hope you are all having a good weekend.

Gaby, pleased you seem to be over the worst of the SE. Well done on doing the couch to 5k programme - very impressed. New trainers always help and you need to look the part 😜 I’m trying to walk more too. Hoping to start Pilates again soon.

Thanks for the advice about going back back to work ... will let you know how I get on ❤️

Jacqs, ooh the blood thinning injections sound really painful 😬 Good luck with returning to work next week ❤️ I’ve been feeling really tired the last few days so I’m hoping I can stay awake at work 😂 I’m also going to a baby shower tonight - not going to drink but a late night will probably wipe me out 😜

ALittlePixie, pleased your radiotherapy went well and you managed to enjoy a few weeks off with family. Great idea to take Eve out of school and make the most of you being in Carlisle. It’s so nice not having to do the school run for a bit. I love the lakes - I grew up nearby in Lancashire so have lots of happy memories going there.

Good luck with taking Letrozole - hope the SE are kind to you. I started on tamoxifen when I started rads (so 6 weeks ago now) and so far I’ve been ok. Few more hot flushes but not too bad.

Aley, well done on having your last T - hope you have managed to celebrate 🥂🎉 Third of the way done - fantastic ❤️

Aley / Gaby, I had surgery at the start of my treatment - a mastectomy and then another op for anc. I found recovery from surgery so much easier than chemo. My advice is to make sure you rest and do the exercises that they ask you to do. The exercises make a huge difference to getting mobility back in your arm quicker. I bought a couple of sports bras too - didn’t go bra less. It was only day surgery for me (which I was surprised at) but was probably for the best as I could rest at home better. Good luck for the 29th Aley ❤️ and Gaby ❤️

Enjoy your Sunday ladies ... I’m off to brave this blustery weather for a walk 🙈 ... where’s the sunshine gone! Big hugs. Lisa xx

Re: dRe: September 2018 Chemo Starters.

Hi everyone,

It's so lovely to read all your messages - we have all pulled through some really tough months and although there are clearly still quite a few treatments and issues, more or less unpleasant Smiley Frustrated, for all of us to sort out, it's just wonderful that we have done it! Smiley HappyHeart

My picc line wound is healing really well now. I've just got a small plaster there and should be able to take that off early next week. I'm looking forward to having my first shower without a plastic sleeve since September! The injections are defitniively not my idea of fun and my tummy is getting increasingly colourful Smiley Wink, but I am just ploughing on, haven't got any choice really. Jacqs: you're already on the count-down to the finish-line with your injections, excellent. I've got several boxes left, so reckon it's too depressing to count at this point. Have you tried applying anything soothing to your bruises, like Arnica? I've been wondering whether that might be a way of getting through the next few weeks, but I'm not sure if it's safe to do.

LittlePixie: how lovely your family were able to join you in Carlisle. That must have made your time there so much more bearable. Thanks for the encouragement with the running. I am planning to get my trainers next week and get started. Like everyone else, I'm not happy with the extra pounds I've put on. However, I've discovered that the extra flab around my middle is very useful for the injections Smiley LOL We're spending the weekend with my in-laws in the Midlands - lots of cakes and pudding that can't be rejected outright - so no point dieting just yet, but come Monday, I've got to stop snacking on biscuits, crisps etc and make a serious start to getting my weight down.

Aley: like you, I've got surgery coming up in late March. No details yet, as I am waiting for my MRI. I've read lots on other threads about bras/no bras, exercise etc and nearer the time, and once I know what sort of surgery I'm having, I gues I shall have to do some serious research in to all of this. Don't fancy "no bra", as my boobs are slightly on the larger side, but I guess I could do that at home, as long as I have something supportive to wear when I go out. I'll be interested to hear what everyone else has done/is doing about this.

Have a lovely weekend.

Hi everyone

Ive been a bit quiet lately, lots going on so just trying to get my chemo fogged head around everything! 🥴

had my last ‘t’ nearly a week ago! Just coming through albeit slowly, the grotty phase!!😆my surgery is planned for 29th March, so the plan is to recover & prepare for phase 2 of this triathlon! I’m having WLE, reduction on other breast and anc. Would welcome any advice for post op & recovery.

Lisa & Jacqs that’s impressive that you’re returning to work-good luck.

My parents have come up to help so off to the garden centre with them later..

bye for now x
