Re: Starting Chemo in December.

What have you done Maire?  You still look like a pink bus.  That doesn't sound very nice when I read it back.  Oh well, I feel like a bus myself.  Have put on half a stone in one month and I still have another month before I even see the thyroid specialist.

I can't seem to put a smiley face in the message.  A smiley face would make me calling you a bus seem OK, xxx

You can also bookmark this thread by choosing thread options (just above the top of the thread) and selecting bookmark.  Then it will appear at the top right of your screen and you can short cut straight to it without all the extra steps they have put in to "improve" the forum.

Re: Starting Chemo in December.

Next week I think we are a select bunch of between 4 and 6 of us.  I have the mobile numbers of everybody (oh, the power).  I am meeting QD off the train, so we will be there first, so anyone can join us at any time that they can make it.  Any crackers who may have logged back in due to the forum shaningens and want to join in are very welcome.  It's never too late to join in.  It's not as if I have actually organised anything.

Really looking forward to it, xxxx

Click on "my profile" (over there, top right) then "avatars" then "upload avatar" then browse your own computer for the pic you want, then go through a couple more random steps to alter the size of how it appears, then go back and do it all again cos it went wrong, do this a couple of times, then give up and save whatever version you have managed to upload.  Then have a cup of tea, wondering if it is all worth it.

Hello Crackers.

Hope you're all well and that you enjoy your party.

Cressida-hope the mammogram goes well.

I'm back to work after the holidays and feeling fine though every single physical twinge freaks me out.

White blood count still abnormal but only a little. They keep taking blood so feel a wee bit like a vodoo doll!

Thanks girls. Mandy are you coming? I have pmed you.

Comparing BC to being in a car crash. Hmmm. I was in one of those too, but the lorry didn't back up and hit me again, and again, and again. It didn't wait for me, out of sight, and then suddenly hit me again. I think he just carried on up the motorway and eventually went back to Spain.

Hi All crackers. Seeing it's not the festive season I thought maybe we called ourselves the crackers because we are bonkers.... Speaking only for myself of course.
Cress, I totally, totally get where you are coming from. I've just had a really harsh text from a friend saying I havecto be more positive, comparing me to people who had had car accidents or tough childbirths. They're ok now, which is great but they also don't have the threat of secondaries or reoccurrence. I suppose it will get better with time. It's proven that potentially we could all be suffering from PTSD!!!!

Lots of love.

We will get through this. Thank goodness we have each other x

Re: Starting Chemo in December.

Doh. Chemo brain alert. I have managed to get the date of my mammogram wrong. It turns out it is on the 29th August. The same day as I am meeting you lovely ladies. Don't get me wrong, I am still coming, it's at 9.30am. I will just be mental with stress and probably drunk.

The first "routine" mammogram after my surgery. Why would I forget that? It's not significant. I only have to walk back into the rubbish breast clinic where they misdiagnosed me a year and a half ago and trust them to do a proper job this time. I only have to stand there with my one boob and let them squash the other one whilst thinking about cancer and all it's evil treatments. I only have put on a brave face and pretend I am not convinced that I am riddled with cancer and that I don't mind waiting for the result and that I don't expect any special treatment or consideration from the very busy staff who all have much better things to do. I only have to not think about the other times I have been there. I only have to not think about cancer. I only have to not think.

On the other hand, I can't think of anyone else who would understand this, apart from you lot, so I am really glad that it is you I will be seeing afterwards. Promise not to go on about it, especially after a glass of vino.

I did get stuck to a sun lounger. It didn't fall out, but it did flip over and, therefore, reversed the polarity of the magnet. Lucky I realised, or my menopause might have actually got worse.....

Re: Starting Chemo in December.

Oh my God Cressida that's given me the best laugh of the week. Please tell me it didn't fall out your knickers or attract you to any poles! Under the sale of goods act you could return it claiming it was faulty!

Re: Starting Chemo in December.

Hi Sarah - nice to hear from you. Hope you doing OK.

For all the hot flush ladies - I became so desperate about my menopause symptoms that I was persauded to put a magnet in my pants. Lots of people swear by them, so I thought "why not?" (apart from the obvious objection that it is nonsense and there is no reason why it should work). At least it won't have side effects. Anyway, it does not work. So I thought I would tell you about it, not as a cure for your flushes, but because we all need a laugh.

Now, it is QD's last rads today - so everybody take a deep breath. You can exhale when she comes on here and tells us it is done.

Good luck tomorrow Lolly, x

ps - anybody good at consumer law? Can I return something on the grounds that it was mumbo jumbo, despite the fact that it has been in my pants?

Re: Starting Chemo in December.

Hello all, just popping in.

Marie & QD, it's 3 months since I started Tam too, although had to stop for a month around surgery. Hot flushes & sweats still bad (although not as bad as on chemo). Tried accupuncture, borage oil & B vits and now sage, nothing making any sustainable difference. It wasn't any better during the month I had off!

Good luck Lolly. Keep going all those still on rads.

Re: Starting Chemo in December.

Nice to hear from you BC. I have to admit to a bit of naughtieness in that I did not pop my pill yesterday. Had a great night's sleep and woke feeling refreshed. However I know it's madness so popped the pill today. Maybe the good night's sleep (no hot flushes) was just coincidental.

Re: Starting Chemo in December.

Hi everyone

Just been catching up on the posts. Don't come on here everyday as I used to. I suppose in a way that's a good sign that my life has returned, more or less, to normal. Apart from back problems and the odd aches and pains, all of which I've had since way before BC, I feel fine. I have noticed though that when I overdo things and have a particularly busy week, I get a wave of fatigue that sort of knocks my legs away at the knees and I literally crash for two days. Then I'm fine again. This has happened three times since the beginning of rads.

Glad to hear that everyone else is progressing. Most impressed with QD's breath holding antics - I'm gasping for air just reading about it!

Went to hairdresser today and I've actually had my hair styled! I cold capped so still had a fair amount of hair but now all the thin places have between a two inch or three inch regrowth. It varies as some went thin before others and that bit regrew first. Don't be afraid to use permanent colour. I'm 21 weeks post chemo and I've done it 3 or 4 times now - not all over each time, just the regrowth, and the hairs silky and shiny anfd in really good condition considering what I've done to it.

Good luck for Friday Lolly, Keep popping the pills Maire and Coyotegi and Lisalouw I think your profile picture is lovely. Love to all.

OMG QD, 5 mins, i just tried and struggeled at 30 secs! am expecting a demo on 29 th you know.....
Cress , hugs, what more can i say.
Anastrazole......i would swear if allowed 1 month in and didnt seem to be having any SE! then the hot flushes, pain in hands and fatigue have all set in with a vengance...NOT impressed. i promised to try them till i saw the oncologist at the end of the month but think that will be the end of it. certainly cannot imagine 5 years of it.
On the bright side looking forward to meeting Cress and Lolly again and whoever else can make it.

Re: Starting Chemo in December.

Wish it did mean that Maire, but it actually means that they only see 2 new patients a month and the doc is on holiday in August. September is "urgent" according to the secretary.

Still not really bothered though. Feeling better is more use to me than speedy appiontments. Itching could be sensitive skin and sunburn. Naughty girl. Holding my breat with you till Thursday QD - almost there - well done, xx

Hello ladies everyone seems quite , I'm hoping that means your all well and getting on with things as should be , cress glad your feeling better and hope you get on ok with specialist , QD, nearly there , yeah !!! How's your skin , I'm impressed with the breath holding , lv to everyone xxx

Re: Starting Chemo in December.

Hope things go o.k at endocrine specialist. The fact that the appt isn't till Sept maybe means it's nothing too urgent. Fingers crossed.
Glad you're coming to the end of radiotherapy QD and am very impressed with breath holding feat!
My latest ailment is an incredibly itchy back 3+ weeks after getting bad sunburn. Never experienced anything like this before and can only assume it has something to do with chemo/rads/Tamoxifen or Herceptin. Either that or I've got some minor infection with all the scratching. Sigh!

Hi Cress

good luck with the endocrine specialist. im gld you feel better - enjoy!!!!

Mid afternoon sounds fab to me. ill check out the train times. im not too fussed about where i eat - as long as it isnt mcdonalds!!!!! 4 rads left. roll on Thursday!

ive now held my breath 3 x 5 mins and am the proud owner of a gold badge!!!! going to try for 6 mins on Aug 14th wish me luck!!!! x

Re: Starting Chemo in December.

Hi ladies,

Very quiet. Just lost my post and, almost, the will to rewrite it. The summary is that I am seeing the endocrine specialist in September. I have no idea whether I should be worried or what they may possibly conclude is wrong with me now. The fact is, I feel much better, so I am ignoring the whole thing.

Really looking forward to meeting up with some of you on Aug 29th. The only concrete plan is for us to eat at 6pm somewhere in Milton Keynes. This time will enable Coyoti to get to work afterwards. We can meet earlier and stay later. I was thinking we could meet mid to late afternoon and congregate in a coffee shop (or on the beach) and wait for everyone to arrive. All up to the people who are coming. Does anyone have preference about what kind of food/restaurants? Anything you hate? Or love? Please let me know, or I will randomly pick what I like.

Hope to hear some updates. Hope everyone is doing OK, xxx

Re: Starting Chemo in December.

Hi Lisalouw
i asked my onc yesterday about dying hair, the reason they say not to for for awhile is because your scalp is now sensative and could have a reaction to the chemicals, she told me i was boarder line and to wait a while longer, then when i do decide to dye it to to a test patch behind my ear or somewhere not to noticealbe as it could fall out again, so i am just gona go grey gracefully for a while.Sorry you cant make the meet up maybe next time, but have a great birthday bash.
Mandy hope you can make it too.

Re: Starting Chemo in December.

Well done Lol!
Mandy p - Today I had radiotherapy number 8. (9 left!). The long term side effects from radiotherapy include chronic cough, brittle ribs etc. These come about because as you breathe, the beams become necessarily distorted.
There is currently a trial going on at the Q E hospital where by you are trained to hold your breath. You are attached to a facemask and saturated with oxygen. Co2levels are reduced to enable the breath to be held. The theory behind this is that if you are completely still and do not breathe then the beams will not distort.
I agreed to be part of the trial. For me it won’t make a difference to my radiotherapy but it may help others in the future. Yesterday -my first attempt I held my breath for 1 min 50 secs. Today 4 mins 48 secs! It’s very relaxing - if a little alien!

LisalouW - enjoy your birthday!

Re: Starting Chemo in December.

Lolly that's great , I too found another lump but it was fatty tissue so doubt I'll have a scan for that x
did the ones who dyed there hair do a sensitivity test , I've been asked on a family meal on sun and a meal with friends on mon and the grey coming through , not at hairdressers for another 2 wk , why can't we dye our hair anyway , I can't find any concrete evidence as to why not , it's all wishy washy , but I feel 90 with the greys coming through
sorry I can't make the meet , it's my birthday wk and I'm off to York with the girls , it's hard for me to get away with finding babysitters , but hope you all have a great time xxx

What's that about breath holding QD? Have I missed something here.

Thanks Cress. I'll see if husband can have kids for day and look at driving down. Shouldn't take more than 2 1/2 hrs?

Although Manchester sounds nice. I could do with a change of scenery.

i went to my last meeting with Oncolgist and she was very pleased with me so i have now been discharged from her care and back to the surgeon, and Breast Cancer Nurses if i need them, feeling really happy today, its as though i have been given my life back and all i have to do now is live it, i have got to go for another ultra sound scan in the future as i found a lump about 2 month ago and they want to just check it to give me peice of mind its just a cyst. apart from that all is well.

Lislouw-My head has been tender at time too. I think in my case it has been sunburn-scalp was purple anyway due to bad dye job so just assuming sunburn!
Cressida-didn't realise Glasgow trains go to Mk. Sadly back to work on 12th August. Sister will also be over from Australia at that time. Hopeful that there will be another opportunity to meet up at some point.

Re: Starting Chemo in December.

Mandy - really hope you can join us. You have chosen to live in one of the few places that do not seem to have direct trains to MK. Maybe you could move? Or change at Manchester.

Lisalouw - my new hair was itchy. Hot sweaty head probably not helping (maybe that's just me). Come and join us in MK to compare hair.
