Re: Anyone tried ISCADOR treatment ( homeopathic)

Hi All

Just an update, I started Iscador this week, it’s fairly straightforward, I noticed a sensation when I started using it, felt like a trickling.

It’s expensive, however with all the research I have read, I think it’s worth investing in.

Take care

Re: Anyone tried ISCADOR treatment ( homeopathic)

Hi
I’m starting iscador next week, I found an Integrated Dr, who works with Iscador.
The other option is to get a NHS referral to the Royal Hospital of Integrated Medicine, who also have Iscador or Mistletoe therapy.
Good luck

Please could you please provide details for.your type of cancer? My grandma has HR+, HER2- and also she has a metastasis at the bones. Could you please inform me about the dosage of iscador? Also, my grandma was taking Letrozole but the metastasis didn't reduced and we changed the hormonetherapy to faslodex, the last 6 months, and the metastasis have been stopped. Thank you in advance

That’s incredible.  Do you try the blood test or liquid biopsy (circulating tumour cells) the lab is in Germany.  I had mi e done but it still shows that I have malignant cancer cells in my blood.  So I am taking special type curcumin and now am thinking of taking Iscadora.

Re: Anyone tried ISCADOR treatment ( homeopathic)

Hi, I have been on Iscador for almost 5 years. I had a tumorectomy for breast cancer and I did chemotherapy and radiation. Chemo was hell for me and I was left with heart damage and severe neuropathy which is now better after having acupuncture (on the ears - acupressure can also help). I began Iscador during chemo and it helped a great deal with the side effects. I remain tumour free and my general health is much better due to Iscador. I live in Switzerland where it is covered by the health insurance and in Germany it is used in about 60% of cancer patients. A doctor needs to prescribe it, but long term studies show it is very effective in cancer treatment. I can highly recommend it.

Sorry about all those typos!! Damn iPhone and big thumbs!!!

If you

Or contact Mistletoe Therapy UK (charity in Aberdeen.. (google them, I don't think I'm allowed to post links to external sites on this forum)
Scots lead the way with this in UK.. lightyears ahed of us in England!!)
Their location map shows nothing in Ireland though.

Yes To Life (another charitable site focusing on holistic therapies) is brilliant. Their search engine shows no Mistletoe practitioners, but it may not be up to date.

May be an idea to contact:

Action Cancer House
1 Marlborough Park
Belfast
Co Antrim
BT9 6XS
UK - Nothern Ireland

http://www.actioncancer.org
info@actioncancer.org
Tel: +44 (0)28 9080 3344

Therapies available at this location:
Aromatherapy
Counselling
Healing/Therapeutic Touch
Massage
Meditation / Creative Visualisation
Reflexology

They may be able to point you in the right direction to ver ther.

You can source Mistletoe direct from German manufacturers IF you have a prescription from a holistic practitioner. They won't just ship it out to you.
You need to have at least met with a trained practitioner to know which type is best for you (they have different types, age comes into it), and how much your dose should be.
You need a nurse to show you how to inject it.

Find out if anyone in your your local GP Practice is a homeopathy fan and ask specifically to see them if your GP won't play ball... they may help you (my GP is a not terribly adventurous 'budget' kinda guy.. the lady doc who WOULD have supported me had just left 😰)
Do press your GP though, this does not actually cost a lot once you are trained to inject yourself. Mistletoe is pretty cheap.

All the very best with whatever you decide. ❤️

Re: Anyone tried ISCADOR treatment ( homeopathic)

Hi Angel.
You can see all my previous comments below... I really wanted Mistletoe Therapy in conjunction with chemo after everything I read about how much it is used in Germany and France (mostly in conjunction with chemo to reduce SEs and improve chances of survival... I was turned onto this by my friend in Canada raved about it... she elected to use it and vit C injections and a load of holidtic dietary stuff instead.

So fast forward 2 years.

I mever did manage to get it in time for my chemotherapy.
London homeopath lady was off on sick leave, and the guy standing in for her was offering oral drops not sub cutaneous, stating drops were equally as effective (a complete lie, studies find drops nowhere near as effective, direct injections way better)
Anyhow, managed to get him to agree to the more expensive option of injections but he then could became hard to get hold of so I started chemo without it.
Turned out chemo itself was nowhere near as awful as I'd antiipated. Yes, I lost my hair (wish I had at least tried the ice cap now.. chemo nurse talked me out of even trying it 😡)
Anti nausea tabs you get now are amazing (Emend/ Metachlopromide etc) not once did I even feel slightly sick!
I felt incredibly tired in the first week after (days 5-7 were my 'crash' days), but in reality this was only for 4 cycles. (I had 4 x EC over 12 weeks, then weekly Paclitaxel over the following 12 weeks... Packitaxel is called 'Taxol in velvet gloves' in the industry... if you can get this instead of Docetaxol please do... WAY less effects. (I got it because I was self employed and needed to work through chemo, a couple of my friends got it because they were having such a rough time with Docetaxol their Onc flipped them.)

Anyway... I responded BRILLIANTLY to chemo. Biggest lump reduced by 50% in first 2 weeks.
I could have elected for lumpectomy but because I had lumps both sides did not want to mess about and went full belt and braces.. bilateral mx with DIEP Flap recon (amazing procedure but another story)

I had planned to go onto mistletoe after chemo as a 'maintenance' thing, but 2 things stopped me.

1. I responded so well to chemo, after the op (and now on Tamoxifen) I felt it was pointless.

2. My Canadian friend who elected homeopathic treatment over chemo. It did NOT get rid of her tumours. In fact they grew.
She eventually agreed to a lumpectomy but 6 myhs later she needed full mastectomy and chemo as it had spread to her lung. Traditional drugs seem to be keeping it at bay (she stil also injects Mistletoe, she is a big believer in homeopathy)

Me? I'm now not such a believer. I was never brave enough to go full homeopath. It has meant my friend's has spread.
But I do think that all those Germans can't be wrong.
My advice would be to take it in conjunction with chemo.
(Though if your looking lump is tiny and not HER2 maybe a lumpectomy plus Mistletoe would be enough.
I just don't know tbh.

Looking at my son as I type this I would just not want to take the unnecessary risk with my life.

I think much more study is needed on Mistletoe. I DO believe the cure to cancer is in boosting our immune systems, and that yes, Mistletoe does this to an extent, but you need to really study German use of it. When would they use just Mistletoe and when would they recommend it as compliment to chemo.

I'm not enjoying Tamoxifen at all (reduces oestrogen levels... both nine fed on oestrogen/progesterone so they put me in Tamoxifen for 5-10 years to keep those levels down. Gives me joint pain and I don't have any get up and go... but thst could also be a touch of depression pist cancer and caring for my dad (92 with dementia)
Life has just been super rough the past 5 years. Not sure what is Tamoxifen and what is mother nature!

What is your lump? Size? Stage? Tupe?
Have you had sentinel node testing? Really important to check if it has reached your lymph nodes... if it has them I'd 100% recommend chemo. Don't mess about. Time is of the essence once it is in your lymph nodes to prevent Mets.

Re: Anyone tried ISCADOR treatment ( homeopathic)

Hello I'm also trying to find out where to to get ISCADOR I'm in Northern Ireland.

if our Dr can't give perscription where can I get one for ISCADOR to be sent in post

Has anyone used only Iscador without using Chemo with any success ?

Iv also heard taking a mixture of Tumeric Fresh ground Ginger, Cinnamon, & Baking Soda mixed with good honey taken 3 times daily on empty stomach for 12 weeks alternating the Baking Soda for Wheet or barley powder every 3 weeks. After 12 weeks take away the Baking Soda completely going back to the Wheat/Barley take this for 1 yr. After this time take once or twice a day leaving out the baking soda use the wheat or Barley for prevention / return of bad microbes This is supposed to fight the microbes leaving the cancer cells to die No sugar or sugary foods to be taken when using this mixture other than the 1 tablespoon of honey used to mix each dose 3 times a day. I have only read about this You all probably already know of this. Just thought I would share this Someone told me this was a variation of the Iscador formula I am not in anyway qualifyed to say any of this mixture works but worth a try also been told eating seaweed in any form even dried sprinkled over food or whole leaves is one of the best things everyone can take as a preventative. So Sorry I have left out MSM ( biological sulphur ) to be used in the Honey mixture. Thank You for taking time to read this.

Not sure what other folks experience is, I had to go private in London (Harley Street) as my GP had 'no budget for holistic medicine'!! (except acupuncture.... if my cancer was making me a little stressed I could always have more needles stuck in me to relax me 😉

You should go through an authorised practitioner who will assess you and calculate what type of mistletoe and how much you need.
They will do the first few subcutaneous injections to assess your reaction, and amend dose as required. Once all is ok a nurse can do it (at a cost), or you can do it yourself (my practitioner said there would be a training fee for this, but long term way cheaper to administer yourself)

If not via NHS you will need a private prescription to get it (and the syringes)

My friend in Canada now gets it direct from German manufacturers (loads cheaper than via docs!) but still requires prescription. (She has taken it for 3 years... took it instead of chemo after lumpectomy and her cancer has just come back! So I do think this is complimentary med as opposed to replacement to chemo!)

The approved list of practitioners is in another website but if you pm me I can send you the link (can't do it in chat)

Re: Anyone tried ISCADOR treatment ( homeopathic)

I had Breast cancer, metastasis to the bone. In 2006 I was given an estimated 24 months survival. I refused chemotherapy and radiotherapy to the breast due to being very weak with Chronic Fatigue. I had a short course of Gamma Radiotherapy to the hip bone in 2006. I took only the hormonal controlling drug Letrozole and Iscador for the next 5 years. I am clear of Cancer and have had no recurrence since 2006.

I also believe the subcutaneous injections of Iscador are a great deal more effective than drops. My NHS Homeopathic Doctor agrees!

Homeopathic Treatment for Cancer:

Actually, the homeopathic treatment for cancer is envisaged based on 2 aspects:

1) General: These remedies are prescribed in the precancerous state as well as during and after the tumoral phase, This is further composed of:
2) Local: This treatment is possible in the actual cancer period.

Details of some of the homeopathic remedies for cancer are as below:

I have finished 6 chemo cycles and had mistletoe sub cutaneous injections every week, my se s were not too bad although I have no way of knowing if they would have been worse if I had not had them . luckily my surgery provided prescriptions but in last month have said no more money. I am not having them any more but want or try acupuncture now for hot flushes and other menopausal symptoms. Good luck with the chemo x

Re: Anyone tried ISCADOR treatment ( homeopathic)

My oncologist approved it in tandem with chemo!! Yay!
Private insurance does not include 'homeopathy' (I was not offered it!!)
GP says no budget at all in region for any homeopathy!! (even though I am saving them about £50-£100k because I pay for health insurance and am private?? Nope, nowt at all.)

Trying to choose between oral drops and subcutaneous (former is cheaper and hassle free, but I think latter is more effective. In a quandary!)

Had first chemo yesterday without Mistleto, and so far so good, no SEs bar feeling a bit low energy. Sofa day for me.
SO many drugs to take but they seem to be working fine.

We shall see.
Cycle 2 will be with mistletoe, so be a good comparison.

Re: Anyone tried ISCADOR treatment ( homeopathic)

I know this is an old thread but have to correct finty.. double blind trials were carried out across Russia/Ukraine/Bulgaria/Germany and China, all at too Cancer hospitals when taken in conjunction with chemo, as complimentary therapy.
Proved beyond doubt the improvement in quality of life.

I am about to have chemo and my oncologist had never heard of Mistletoe extract (!!) but was open at least to learning.

If anyone has an oncologist or breast cancer specialist who would be happy to confirm they support it/are fans/it does not impact chemo efficacy then I would be eternally grateful.
(A small forest of Global evidence does not seem enough for her.. and I have sourced hundreds of supporting stats!).. need UK based peers)

Re: Anyone tried ISCADOR treatment ( homeopathic)

I had one experience of using homeopathy. After a very stressful period in my life I developed psoriasis on my scalp. My GP prescribed various potions to apply, but nothing was effective. I put up with it for 2 years then went to see a homeopath. I was perfectly willing to believe that the GP would help me but he couldn't. I saw the homeopath once a week and was given different things each week according to how I responded the previous week. She warned me that it would take a few months and it would get worse before it got better. After 3 months I was about to give up as it became much worse, it peaked, then and then overnight changed from horrible weepy wet sore psoriasis, flaking and itchy, to healthy skin. I was astonished. An unexpected side effect was my hay fever improved from being very debilitating, to a very mild form. Psoriasis and hay fever are immune system overacting type illnesses. I wasn't expecting this, hadn't been told it might happen, but my homeopath was expecting it. Incidentally, the different pills I had each week all had a different taste. I realise this isn't a double blind trial, could be placebo effect, but it cured my very nasty condition that is notoriously difficult to control. I also realise that psoriasis can come and go of it's own accord but my condition followed the path predicted by the homeopath. I don't care how it worked, it worked for me.

Hi all,

I've just got my red mark. I'd be interested to know which system people are on. Apparently once you have found the dose you can either keep on taking a series, or you can just take the same dose all the time.

Cheers,

Re: Anyone tried ISCADOR treatment ( homeopathic)

Good luck with all your treatments Gingerbud.

I managed to avoid chemotherapy, and its a while since I went down with breast cancer so the iscador shouldn't interfere with any treatments. I'm wondering how it will affect my ME though as it can raise cytokines, so its a bit of a try it and see if I feel OK on it.

I gave myself my second one yesterday and so far I'm OK, but I am on a very low series as I have multiple intolerances.

Apparently some people suggest 3 jabs a week and others 2, but my doc suggested that I see how I feel and to take 3 a week if I feel OK on it.

Re: Anyone tried ISCADOR treatment ( homeopathic)

Hi carolwat do lets no how ur feeling after the iscador. So glad the retired gp helped you out. My refrral has finally gone through but my gp did loads of research on it + found it can reduce the potency+ effectiveness of chemo. She phoned my onc to discuss it + my onc isn't keen at all but is happy for me to proceed as long as I stop if+ when I need more chemo. I'm starting rads next wk + my rads oncologist has requested that I start after his treatment in case it worsens my skins reactions. So fingers crossed it'll be December when I get started!
Good luck

Re: Anyone tried ISCADOR treatment ( homeopathic)

I've just had my first iscador tonight. A retired GP has offered to prescribe it for me as my PCT refused a referral to a homeopathic hospital and he came round and showed me how to give my first one in my tummy. I'm being started on series 0, as I have sensitivities.

I'd be interested to know how well people tolerate the mistletoe. I'm wondering whether it may make me flu-like as I also have ME.

Re: Anyone tried ISCADOR treatment ( homeopathic)

Gingerbud - thanks so much for starting this thread and xwelcomex, brilliantly put!!

I thought chemo just felt wrong. Hideously, poisonously wrong. I seriously considered stopping it, but then found another lump (FEC was completely ineffective for my tumour), so changed to tax and it took away the option of wondering if the chemo was just a bit of insurance. My cancer was obviously aggressive.

In hindsight, now it is over I am pleased I took the chemo option, but would definitely be prepared to consider something like ISCADOR if I developed further tumours.

Thanks again for posting about options other than conventional medicine, even if it is to go along-side the chemo. How much does it cost and how often do you have to inject?

Re: Anyone tried ISCADOR treatment ( homeopathic)

Ann I think we are going to have to agree to disagree - I don't think a bottle of water can cure anything that couldn't get better on it's own, and I wouldn't accept the word of a Homeopathy Faculty as having any authority at all. If the research proved it worked, I wonder why they don't claim the $1million dollar prize on offer. The NHS agreed when the issue was much in the news in July this year - they agreed to carry on funding homeopathy on the basis that patients like it, despite announcing there was no evidence to support it - causing an outcry in Parliament that the money was being wasted. I don't agree it's wasted if it makes people feel better - but I can't agree it works.

Have just read your comment - brilliant - sums up exactly how I feel about Iscador treatment - and, as people have already pointed out, its not actually a homoeopathic remedy. I just wanted to do something after chemo and rads finished to help prevent recurrence of my cancer if at all possible.I was given a fairly high chance of developing secondaries within ten years by my oncologist but was told there was nothing I could do to prevent this happening. I guess if I do go on to have a recurrence or live for another thirty years without the cancer returning I will have no way of knowing for sure if things would have been any different if I hadn't taken the Iscador. And my oncologist was horrified when I told him I was considering it - his exact words were "but Mistletoe is poisonous!"Wonder what he thought about the chemo I had just been given.
Tina (Gingerbud)- I know you have to make your own decisions about treatment - hope all goes well if you decide to go ahead - I have certainly not had any regrets about taking Iscador over the past six years
best wishes

Re: Anyone tried ISCADOR treatment ( homeopathic)

finty - It looks to me as if the RCTs involving a placebo were double blind:-

http://www.facultyofhomeopathy.org/research/rcts_in_homeopathy/

It obviously doesn't work for all people and all ailments, but there is evidence that homeopathy does work.

Re: Anyone tried ISCADOR treatment ( homeopathic)

Ann you're right - it works with what the medics call an enhanced placebo affect. The problem with most trials on homeopathy is that they are not double blind. The patient doesn't know if they are taking a placebo or not, but the people running the trial do, and small but noticeable biases are introduced to the assessment. I am fairly sure there has never been a double blind trial that has shown an affect above placebo, and the single randomised blind ones have been successfully challenged by sceptics who have uncovered the bias.

And don't get me started on religion:)

Re: Anyone tried ISCADOR treatment ( homeopathic)

finty - I agree that homeopathy does sound 'cranky' but no more so than religion, probably less so. Many things in life cannot be fully explained.

I still say there is some evidence that it works in many cases, for whatever reason.

"The most solid evidence for a treatment comes from reviewing more than one Randomised Controlled Trials. This is known as a systematic review. Four out of five major systematic reviews of RCTs in homeopathy have concluded (with certain caveats) that homeopathy has an effect greater than placebo."

"Between 1950 and 2009, 142 randomised controlled trials (RCTs) in homeopathy have been reported. This represents research in 74 different medical conditions. Of these 142 trials, 63 were positive, 11 negative and 68 non-conclusive."

"For full details of all 142 RCTs and more in-depth information on the research, visit the research section of the Faculty of Homeopathy's website."

Re: Anyone tried ISCADOR treatment ( homeopathic)

Ann - the reference to junk science was to the explanation given by proponents of homeopathy who believe it is not a placebo affect. Despite acknowledging that there is no ingredient other than water, they maintain that the water has a "molecular memory" of being in contact with an active ingredient, and it is this "memory" that accounts for it's success. I don't believe I am alone in considering that junk science! After all if that were the case, all the water in the world would have a molecular memory of all sorts of noxious substances - it's just nonsense.

Mel - that's a fascinating account - I believe you are absolutely right and the placebo affect can be extremely powerful. The difference in effectiveness of the size and colour of the pills has also been proven in double blind trials. Although presumably these days it would be impossible for that to happen, as oncs would be very unlikely to collude in the deception. It's a fascinating subject, the power of the mind, and presumably accounts for why nearly all oncs will tell you that patients with a positive attitude do better than those without, all other things being equal.

xwelocomex - you make a very compelling point.
