That's fab news. I'm going through a similar thing, thought mine was related to a running injury. Got a severe muscle spasm under my rub and side and now vein raised and side sore. At the drs on Monday. It's hard for people who haven't had cancer to know how our mind works....so glad you're sorted and put your mind at ease x
Thank you! So sorry for late reply. I have only just been notified I had a message! I am a bit worried no further tests but must have been clear. If nothing else I now know why my joints are so painful! X
Good to hear Janey. And that they could tell you after the nuclear bone scan without doing another scan. I thought they often needed a second scan (like in my case) but clearly not always!
Hope the rib pain goes soon.
Good luck Helenann ,you can't help but have anxiety with these things once you've had breast cancer can you .I hope you get the results back asap .The waiting for these things is so rubbish .
Hi, I had an appointment with the consultant on Wednesday and mentioned the pains I was experiencing in my hip, leg and now shoulder. He thinks its more then likely an 'age thing', but has referred me for a nuclear full body bone scan - which is scheduled for this Monday afternoon.
When I have my 'sensible head' on I know its probably arthritis or something, but when I have my 'mad head' on I'm convinced my whole body is riddled.
My BCN is fabulous, she said it was a good thing to have the scan and if nothing sinister shows up on it I can put my fears to bed.
Will let you know how I get on.
Had my scan results back today. Thankfully nothing sinister found in the ribs, although arthritis is showing in other joints. Rib pain maybe from injury to cartilage and advised can take a long time to resolve, so still on the painkillers.
thank you so much for support xx
Definitely seems more likely they would call you in if it was bad news but like you say Covid times mean everything is topsy turvy 🤞🤞🤞🤞
So ... I’ve just had a call from the Hospital appointments team to say I have an appointment (by phone) with breast clinic next Weds. Rational head channelling your sage advice and saying that’s good no more tests booked and surely bad news would be face to face - Irrational head saying that’s very quick to get an appointment and covid reason for no face to face. Just want to get some answers, as pain is getting worse, to the point I can’t sit to work. Thanks for listening ears xxx
Thank you for very sound advice and will bear that in mind if I get asked in for more. After he’d checked the images were okay, he asked if I had other scans booked, which I don’t. Was told the report would be done by end of this week to be with my doctor next week. I do think the waiting is the worst bit. The pain is becoming difficult to manage but wondering if that’s psychosomatic! Xxx
There were delays re summer holiday period the year I had mine. At that time (a few years ago) they aimed for 2 weeks.
It's usually only when they do the follow up CT/MRI (sorry can't remember which it was since its a while back), if they find anything suspicious, that they can distinguish any false positives (eg from past fractures or ageing patches) from anything more serious. So try not to panic too much if they do refer you for a further scan. Really feel for you - hope you don't have to wait too long for the first results (or the second if they decide another is needed to determine the cause).
Thank you both. I’m assuming will be a couple of weeks to hear everything. Very painful today and still hopeful will be muscular or old injury xx
Good luck Janey. My results took a couple of weeks unfortunately - hopefully yours will be quicker 🤞🤞
I think I waited for a while and then did the ‘oh by the way’ as I stood up to leave the surgery! Do mention the pains. Having now met with my bc surgeon (closed to oncology), I feel a little calmer. She said they’re ruling out, rather than ruling in. I guess the aches could be brought on by the exmestane I’m on, coupled with walking funny to compensate! X
Hi. Im in a similar position at the moment. IDC 2 years ago, mastectomy, and back and forth to hospital for reconstruction and other treatments. Developed pain in my right hip, leg and shoulder- haven't actually done anything about it yet - part of me doesn't want to know I think. Will watch this thread and hope more people share their concerns and let us know their outcomes- good or bad. 💕💕💕
thank you so much for posting and glad you had good news. I’m banking everything on a mystery old injury! It’s such an odd pain. It’s always the waiting X
I went through precisely what you describe 3 years ago (3 years after being diagnosed with bc).
I had pain in my back ribs, mentioned it to the onc team as part of a regular check up, was referred for nuclear bone scan and then CT (think that's the right type - may have been MRI) scan. While it is an undoubtedly worrying time waiting for the results, the reason they don't always carry out scans for every bone pain is due to there being quite a lot of false positives, since the nuclear bone scan picks up any bone ageing and old fractures or breakages, these appearing very similar or the same to how secondary cancer shows.
Mine turned out to be fractured ribs - which I hadn't realised I'd ever had! (I think I had aggravated the old injury while fixing a fence). Although I only got the good news after a stressful time awaiting the CT (or MRI?) results, since based on the nuclear bone scan the radiographer thought my ribs looked highly suspicious. Phew! Who'd have thought I'd be pleased to hear I'd fractured my ribs at some point! I understand false positives are quite common.
So try to do whatever it takes to keep as calm as possible. While there are no guarantees and I wouldn't wish broken ribs on anyone....I hope there is a more harmless/innocent cause of your rib pain.
I wondered if there is anyone else currently worried about or going through tests to consider possibility of secondaries? I’m waiting on a bone scan following consultation yesterday. I have had an unusual pain in my ribs. Trying to feel positive but we all know the waiting game is awful. X
