Re: Fab online support group for post treatment

Hello lovely forum,

Just wanted to come back to this thread and highlight how both groups really helped me deal with the after effects...

i did the BCN Moving Forward online course which was really useful - lots of information and being able to ask questions and connect with the nurses. I also did Cancer Support UK's cancer coach group first mentioned below, which are online groups supporting people with diff cancer diagnosis. It was more about how to handle the feelings! i've had cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) before and it felt quite similar to that. But think the important thing was being virtually with other people and sharing experiences and not feeling alone or abnormal about feeling the way we do.

It definitely helped me get to a point where i was ready to start applying for new jobs, don't think i would have been able to without both these groups.

Sending love and hugs and christmas wishes

Cathy x

Hi girls

I have to congratulate you ALL of such a lovely, supportive thread.

I keep posting this link, that another member and a fantastic forum supporter, Jaybro, introduced quite some time ago. It's a brilliant read, and may help get your head around a few things.

Have a read. Hope it helps. Keep kicking that BC in the BUTT, girls.

Lots of love to you ALL, Dellywelly  ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

P.s. Hope you enjoyed your break with your friend in Cornwall, Cath. Did you bring me back some clotted cream?? 😋  xXx

Re: Fab online support group for post treatment

@kazza81 how are you doing? So glad you signed up for the group, seems like feeling lost is so common, we're not alone. I returned to work in March and people (who know) keep telling me how well i'm doing and sometimes I just want to scream 'no i'm not!'

I had not realised how difficult the follow up mammogram would be (and all the associations). We're not alone in our fear of it (or another) coming back. Its natural to be scared and anxious. My onc tried to help saying anxiety was part of life but it didn't really help 🙂, whereas i spoke to a GP who normalised the whole ongoing emotional rollercoaster and it did help.

Do speak to your doctor or call the helpline on here to talk things through. Sending big hugs.

Re: Fab online support group for post treatment

Hi Everyone.

Thank you so much for sharing information about that group. I have signed up for it.

I am also finding things tough at the moment. I went through Surgery, chemo and radiotherapy over the last 14 months and now find myself lost.

Although I feel physically stronger, returned to work in April ( on a gradual hour increase return) people think that I am now ok. But I’m not. I feel more lost now than ever.
I had my first mammogram since surgery at the end of July and although it came back as clear, I am panicking inside that the cancer is going to return. But to somewhere else in my body which I won’t know about.

Hopefully that group will calm me down. Although I have thought about speaking to my doctor. But I’m not sure that could help xx

Re: Fab online support group for post treatment

Had first check up if the week today with gynie.  Last appointment resulted in a polyps being sent off to be checked.  Thankfully today seemed rather straightforward.

Next will be ultrasound on both breasts on Thursday.

Am already feeling rather anxious as I‘m nearly a year on and just having to do this stuff brings back all those horrible memories that I‘ve worked so hard on dealing with.  Then it makes me feel angry that some of us have to go through this rubbish stuff.

Roll on Thursday and hopefully the news that all is as it should be.  In the meantime I‘ll keep myself occupied and try to relax with some yoga.

I guess how I‘m feeling is pretty normal whatever normal is.  The doctor today said there‘s no need to be anxious but I thought that’s easy to say when you haven’t experienced it yourself.  My initial diagnosis was not as straightforward as thought and resulted in three different biopsies but thankfully just the two tumors.
If you feel like sending me positive vibes, I‘m happy to receive them.

@Cath9090   Hello..... I‘m nearly a year post lumpectomy and have my check up coming up.  It sounds like we might be in similar situation..... would be happy to exchange/connect.  I‘ve also missed lack of contact with someone in the same boat.

i'm so glad cath, its not easy is it? Cancer Coach helped me enormously, it really helped my check up anxiety, they taught some techniques to cope with it and it did really help. Lots of love x

Re: Fab online support group for post treatment

Thank you so much for posting about this group.

I am a year post lumpectomy and just went for my mammogram and followup with the onc and have been a bit of a nervous wreck. The mammogram was clear (but can't help feeling anxious that my original tumour didn't show up on the mam) but have had some abdo issues so going for some scans.

Going through treatment during Covid meant there were less opportunities to connect with other people and i thought i was coping, but now feel really alone and lost. I went back to work but its really stressing me out but I feel trapped.

Made me realise that I want to reach out for some support, so have registered for the Moving Forward online course and this Cancer Coach one. Thank you again Bigj xxx

Fab online support group for post treatment

Morning everyone

I completed treatment for stage 2 breast cancer last year - surgery, chemo, rads and tamoxifen. I really struggled once i'd finished and am still taking tablets for anxiety. I think the main thing I struggled with was not being able to talk to anyone - i felt like i had to hide everything i was feeling and people were totally over hearing about it.

I am on the waiting list to join a Moving Forward group but i wanted to let you know about another really good free online support group i took part in. It's called 'Cancer Coach' and it's run by a charity called Cancer Support UK. It was all done over Zoom, once a week for 6 weeks and it was me and about 5 other women, most of whom had also had breast cancer. It was really good because it focused on emotional support and mental health, rather than side effects and health eating and exercise, which other groups have been in the past.

It was so great to talk to other people who had bene through the same experience and hear that i am not alone in feeling rubbish! It has made such a difference to how i approach my recovery

I'm still terrified of recurrence but am working hard on accepting these feelings and im still in touch with the other ladies i met on the group which is a great comfort.

If you google their website you can see all the details. Highly recommended!! xx
