Re: Need a sensible head

As Jill1998 said, if you are still under the care of the Breast Cancer Team ( which we are aren't we for a statutory period of time - why do I think 5 years, after a diagnosis, or is that my imagination or invention?) then I really would take that path into getting yourself a scan?  Your worries are too connected to 'possibility' rather than just random back pain with no BC history - and because of that, I think it warrants speedy referral.  I spoke to one of the BC Nurses via email explaining my concern, and that is how things got moving for me. . . . . . xx

Thank you Paulus for your reply. I am also 64 and agree with you that we should all have bone scans, but as always it comes down to money. I hope your results are fine and you can soon return to walking. I will definately make an appt with the doctor next week, as knowing what the problem is and dealing with it is better than worrying. Take care.

Re: Need a sensible head

I am 64 and had WLE/one positive lymph node/Grade 3 diagnosis a year ago - surgery, radiotherapy, letrozole (although having doubts about continuing letrozole)

A lot of your story sounds very similar to mine - a husband who can't tune in, a history of back pains and sciatica, some spine curvature - but I walk everywhere - at least I did walk 'with purpose' everywhere until about 8 weeks ago when I started to experience right side/hip area pain - like I'd not had pain before.  I was walking sooooo slowly, the pain wouldn't leave, I saw my chiropractor who has treated me for years for all the minor issues, that a few treatments usually solve - anyway, long story short - it was my follow-up mammo a few weeks back, which came back 'ok', but because of the onset of this pain, I gently insisted that I would like a bone scan ' in view of my history ' i.e. in one node and no chemo.  I deal better with fact than worry?  So I had my scan on Monday and have a couple of weeks to wait until I see the consultant again  -  I am not troubling myself over it now because I have done all I can to find an answer - and yes, I would really suggest you do the same?  In fact, I think it should be mandatory for BC ladies to be offered regular bone scans etc.  Wish you all the best x

Re: Need a sensible head

Are you still under the breast care team - did they look at the CT scan - the radiographers in that team are very good at spotting suspicious changes .

They will send you for nuclear bone scan as a precaution if you have bone issues and you or they are uneasy about it ..Unfortunately once you've had breast cancer these twinges that previously you wouldn't have thought twice about become a worry .I understand on the OH front - mine is selectively deaf when it comes to talking about health worries .Get it checked out - don't just sit and worry about it .

Need a sensible head

I'm not sure how to say this, but I'm sorry  in advance if its long and I ramble on. I finished treatment two years ago for B.C. after a mastectomy and chemo. Last May I started getting back and  right hip pain I was given a CT scan which showed minor  degenerative changes.Since then the pain has been minor until a week ago now the pain in my right hip seems to have got worse . It comes and goes, sometimes it hurts when I'm resting and sometimes when I'm walking. Before I had B.C I would have just dismissed it as arthritis,  now I have convinced myself its bone cancer. I know I am worrying probably unnecessary,  but now I'm starting to get depressed, which is made worse by the fact I have no one to talk too. My husband is useless when it comes to feelings and emotions and is not any help, but that's another story. I really don't think I need to see a doctor (getting an appt is nearly impossible anyway, usually end up having to see a nurse practictioner). In March of this year I had a Ultra sound on my right groin because of a swelling, this also came back clear. How do we stop this anxiety every time we get an ache or pain.

Thank you all for listening. I will follow the rule and give it another week or two and see if things improve .
