Pension

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction as to if and how I can cash my pension in.
My pension has told me I can’t cash it in at the earliest when I’m 55 or when I have less than a year left of life. My question is can I cash it in any sooner as I will no longer be working due to secondary’s and the money would help now towards holidays and things whilst I’m still well enough to do these things.

thank you any help would be very much appreciated.

Tanya.

Hi @Tanyael , I hope you are well today.

You are welcome to call our nursing team on freephone 0808 800 6000 to discuss this, or else I know that Macmillan Cancer Support have a team of people who specialise in finance queries. You can find more info on their site here: macmillan.org.uk/cancer-information-and-support/impacts-of-cancer/money-finance-and-insurance

There are benefits available from the Department of Work and Pensions for people who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness, under what they call “special rules” so you can get the benefit when you need it rather than wait until you die. It may be that some people with secondary breast cancer will live for 5 or more years, but that doesn’t matter to claims under “special rules” you can still get it to boost your income.

Try the DWP. Shame about the work pension though. I couldn’t claim until I was 60 and most people had to wait until 65. Do you own your own home? Maybe you could release some equity from your house if so.

Good luck Seagulls
