Re: Bra fitting

Many thanks for this Delly ... yes, Buckingham isn’t far away.

Hi again Rachel

I must make a point, that I was speaking of my experiences from quite a few years back now. Things have moved on since. Just as some of the other ladies have posted on here, I've heard good things said about M&S mast bras, and I believe some of their larger stores have specialist fitters you can arrange to see specially. The same for Debenhams and John Lewis. But, if you haven't already, you may wish to check out Sweet Dreams of Buckingham's website. Would that be anywhere near where you live in Buckinghamshire?? They boast having stocking a good range of mastectomy bras and swimwear, and a "specialist fitting" service.

Lotsa love to you, and everyone else xxxx

Hi Delly

Many thanks for your reply. I live in Oxfordshire but am more than happy to travel. I feel I’ve been ‘making do’ for too long now!

Re: Bra fitting

Hi Rachel

I don't know if this still happens, but at my breast unit, they had regular visits from some of the specialist bra/prosthetic fitters - Natrelle and Amoena. I had problems with my first two prostheses (early stick on ones 2006), and went to see a rep at the hospital unit two years later, who fitted me with a different pair, plus fitted me with a bra also. May be worth contacting your unit to see. Some reps regularly visit some of the Breast support groups as well.

One of the ladies in my support group, back then, also recommended the local lingerie shop, but it turned out to be an upsetting experience, and total waste of time, as the assistant had no flippin idea whatsoever, and kept bringing all these very pretty, but totally unsuitable balconette type bras into the fitting room. Turned out they were friends, and she was putting business their way.

Went to Womanzone (nr Warrington), who actually made their own mast bras and swimwear to measure, on their premises. Stocked some of the well known makes also, such as Amoena and Anita. All the assistants were professionally trained "specialist" fitters, booked you an appointment so you had their total attention. The assistant was sooo fantastic - sensitive, sympathetic and considerate to my needs - I could have kissed her. Ended up spending more than I intended, on a couple of feminine, sexy lacy bras (but still "suitable" covering wise and well as supportive), and matching briefs to boot, because I felt I deserved it, and came out feeling a million dollars, rather than my previous upsetting experience from a very poor recommendation.

Whereabouts are you in the country?

There are many more lingerie shops nowadays, that have specially trained fitters, and stock more of the well known mastectomy makes, so there may be a closer one to you than a Nicola Jane shop (as mentioned, Leeds and somewhere near Southampton last I knew). But I'd recommend you call them first to check that they do offer this service, if it isn't stated.

Once I'd been properly fitted with the right size and a style I liked, I used to order any extras or replacements on line, either from the shop or direct from the suppliers. I'd always recommend a good specialist trained fitter. Can make a huge difference.

Good luck with it and hope you're keeping well

Re: Bra fitting

Hi Rachael,

Have you tried John Lewis or Debenhams? I found their fitting services excellent, and John Lewis had a good range that I hadn't seen elsewhere.

Good luck x

Re: Bra fitting

Hi Rach58

I bought my mastectomy bras from Marks and Spencers. They are very soft and comfortable. The pockets are great and my prosthesis fits lovely. Plus you don’t pay the VAT.

lots of luck

Re: Bra fitting

Hi, I use Nicola Jane.

They have super lovely mastectomy bras and the ladies at the shops (at least the one I go to, near Leeds) are really nice, supportive and understanding.

I'm a size 34E so really need a good supporting bra, and there I found what I needed, without being frumpy Smiley Happy

Thanks for your reply Nik. I’m hoping someone can recommend a good tried-and-tested bra fitting service.

Bra fitting

Hi everyone

I’m 10 years post mastectomy, chemo & radiotherapy and really want a decent bra fitting. I have a silicone prosthesis and currently use conventional bras with pockets sewn in. However, I’m not happy with them and don’t want to just ‘make do’! My boobs are saggy and I need a fitting by someone who can give me some good advice about correct sized bras that don’t cost the earth. I initially bought mastectomy bras but didn’t find them comfortable. Hope you can help.
