Driving a broom without a licence?  Really Katy?  I'm shocked!   Thank heavens we got to France and back safely.  Good job the broom police were otherwise engaged.

Yay, birthday cake in the shed, coffee and walnut and a few left over fondant fancies .  Lovely family get together, lots of gossip exchanged. A conversation about the tragic fire in our City.  Although I'm really sad about the loss of the oldest hotel in England, I'm just so thankful that it didn't spread to the medieval buildings nearby, or the Cathedral.  When my daughter and I go there, our favourite cafe is just yards away.

Back to school tomorrow, another seven weeks to go!  Which brings about the thought that It's sevenish weeks until that time of year that cannot be mentioned until after Bonfire Night.....a frightening thought!

Congrats Dame Grumpy, I'm sure your Oscar is on the way.

Bravo, bravo flowers thrown at your feet, grumpySmiley Happy!

Pssst FF, I have no licence!

Doing a small shop today, groan, decided to do some "healthy" eating, we'll see how long that lasts...............

Am awful, those tasty bits just keep falling magically into my trolley.

The Wedding, what's happening now JCJ?

Is the theme still lime green and orange? xx

Woo hoo Loch NessSmiley Happy!!

It is a "wee" bit chilly up here, so cosy costume needed, thermal, furry, knitted??

Am sure you will be gorgeous regardless.............

If there is a commotion about Nessie each Thurs, we will know the secret, hee hee.

Superly quiet day here, whew xx

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

OK then. Loch Ness it is! Just logged my first swim (swam 70 lengths on Thursday and only needed 15 (14.2 actually) to reach Calais, so by the wonders of the Internet I can use the remaining 55 to start the Nesswim. It seems I am swimming from the northern end, near Inverness (just to clarify, KTC, as you didn't seem to know where Loch Ness was! :P) down to Fort Augustus. I expect a full welcome committee again when I reach there in about April. Definitely going to need my fleece lined swimsuit for a winter swim in Loch Ness?! I think I'll get a Nessie costume - that'll cause a stir? 😁🐉

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Congatulations on your channel swim JCJ.  I also think Loch Ness should be your next challenge. It could prove one way or the other whether there is a monster?  Are you sure it was a photo, or were Hump and Dink shadowing you?  Be very careful.

Mine was the big service on the car so that explains the difference in price.

Katy - your broom driving was a bit erratic.....did you not see that Boeing 747 that we nearly collided with?  I shut my eyes and hoped for the best, never been more glad to arrive back home.  Perhaps a bit more practise before Halloween?

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Wish I lived nearer, KTC, I'd come to you and bring lunch so you didn't have to miss out! 😞

I just had a real Benchland moment in Sainsbury's (other supermarkets are, of course, available!): I always use the backs/insides of old greetings cards as shopping lists, and any other handy bit of card. Today, as I was going around the store, consulting my list, I was getting some peculiar looks - so I stopped muttering to myself about my purchase choices - but I was still getting odd glances.

It was only at the checkout that I spotted what was on the back of my list: I had printed off some photos, taken at MMU, for FF for MMU4. The one of Grumpy holding the camels in front of Eric (that sounds like an elaborate code?? :P) had printed wrong, cutting off Eric's head, but rather than throw it away, I just shoved it in the shopping list card box and forgot all about it. From the looks on the other shoppers' faces, I might as well have been riding the camels around the store, or at the very least leading them round on leads (reins?) 😂

Many congratulations JCJ, you're a winner, woo hoo, scooby/booby dooSmiley Happy!!

Congrats to grumpy too, Dame Mirren???

Would def go for Loch Ness JCJ, monster, camels and of course us, haha, though I may not be able to find you haha!!!

Thank you for your kind words and hugs much needed and appreciated.

Have to go in for another infusion best date at the moment is in 2 weeks timeSmiley Frustrated, there are only 4 beds available on a daily basis but they will contact me if there is a cancellation. Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Oh Katy, your poor feet! Hope your consultant can sort that out soon. Congratulations JCJ , I've boiled the kettle specially for a proper cuppa to go with the patisserie. Son reckons that yes, the ppppenguin did help. His Gran has knitted him a Pingu in graduation robes and mortar board (to be clear, the penguin is dressed in these items NOT my mil whilst knitting, although its an intriguing image). And Grumpy, congrats on the stage debut!

Ive started the Christmas shopping, have bought my son a shirt from that high street retailer who specialises in marked down labels and has too many xxxxxxxxxs in the name . Anyway , it's a Penguin label shirt, seemed appropriate!

Bonjour tout le monde! Je suis arrive! Ou et mes amis? Ah voila mes amis dans cette broomstick la! Je suis tres tres fatigues parce que j'ai swam 22 miles (tais- tois - ne pas parler that it took moi 23 swims et a total of just over 20 hours to do it!)

Passez moi beaucoup de croissants et un enormous tasse de te, j'ai earned it!

What shall I do for my next challenge? Swim back to Dover? Swim Loch Ness - also 22 miles. Loch Lomond - 24 miles, Loch Fine 25 miles, Guernsey coastline 30 miles or Jersey coastline 45 miles. Which do you fancy?

My car service was the 'small' one as I had the 'big' one last year along with cam belt.

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

More hugs from me Katy,  Hope appt. with consultant comes soon and that there is an easy solution for your feet.

YAY for your car JCJ.  If I add my car service and MOT together I paid more than that, did you get a bargain or was I ripped off?  Did you find anything in the charity shops?

Katy and I on broomstick to Calais, you have your car back, no excuses, we are waiting.  Let the celebrations begin.  But we won't mind a weeks holiday in France if you don't make it today!

Congrats to Ali's son on both results.

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Oh, hugs, Katy, it must be miserable to be in pain all the time. I hope the consultant can do something to help you ASAP.

Got phonecall from garage at 11:30, just as I was wondering which café to go in for another hour. Panicked. Expected: "your car has catastrophically failed it's MOT and will cost a million pounds to fix," but got: "your car is ready for collection," could have knocked me down with a feather (ok, a steel plated one!) so it "only" costing £164 for service & MOT seemed like an utter bargain (especially when combined with 1 1/2 hours now not needing to waste time and money in various shops/cafés?!)

Called in at garage that sells plants on way home and got my winter pansies and primula for my tubs - another half-term job - will get them in as soon as I finish this coffee and sit down...... promise! 😛

Well done Ali's son, woo hoo!

Oxtail soup? mmmmm have eaten it once in around 20 years? Do I like it? It's ok haha!!

Monkey in the tree?? In Calais? Will camels be there too??

Am in terrible trouble with feet, so ouchy, finally conceded and went to docs yesterday, they will not touch meSmiley Sad, so am waiting for nurse to phone, she's just phoned!!

Will contact consultant and get back to me, woo hoo!!

Finding it very hardSmiley Frustrated xx

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Just dropped car off at the garage for service/MOT. So embarrassed. Had to park very close to another car and as I was wriggling out I accidentally leant on the horn. Typical! Can never find the d*** thing when I need it! Smiley Embarassed

Then, when I went into reception, where the receptionist and both mechanics were stood - just the other side of the windows I parked outside! - I booked car in and couldn't remember my own mobile number! I ALWAYS know that number! Also couldn't figure out how to find number on the phone.

Both mechanics now have me down as an incompetent bumbling old biddy (be quiet, Katy!) and will probably rip me off. Grrr!

Now have 4 hours to wait, so I'm having a breakfast in a café, before perusing the many charity shops in this small market town. How long can I sit here with this coffee and my kindle??

Are you all on the way to Calais? I should be swimming tonight, if I get my car back ok.

Well done to your son, Ali, 2:1! 😄 (the penguin must have helped :p)

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Bleurgh, not a fan of oxtail soup I'm afraid but I do sympathise with the food mess everywhere scenario!

Yes, son has done his degree resit and got his 2:1 so he's happy. Driving lesson tomorrow. Applying for jobs when nagged to by his cruel mother.......

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Oxtail soup comes in tins!!.  Sorry, but it just does.  Hope your time at the dentist wasn't too horrendous.

Had a lovely lazy day today, tomorrow have to go to school and do a few more jobs, glad now that I went in on Sunday.  I was a bit surprised at 11am. when the church clock struck 24 times then I realised it wasn't the clock but the bell tolling for the service.  Now I can have Friday off, so a long weekend in sight.  Lovely...... and daughter's birthday celebrations postponed from last weekend.....so a family gettogether!

Possibly cake in the shed on Sunday, depends whether we eat it all!

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Can't speak French or even Franglais whilst treading water - it makes me swallow too much seawater! 😛

Congratulations to your son for passing theory test. Now the fun starts with the actual driving test?! Is he doing resits for his degree too?

I can imagine the mess with the pancake batter. I once (and only once - you'll soon see why) made oxtail soup. Whilst it was in the blender I forgot to put the middle bit of the lid in. Brown sludge with bits in EVERYWHERE - all up the walls, in the strip lights (could smell it 'cooking' in there for months after!) across the ceiling. It looked like a VERY large dog had eaten a curry and had a very unpleasant 'accident' in the kitchen! 😞 Thank goodness it didn't smell like that! However, I've never made, or even much fancied eating, oxtail soup ever since!!

Having a lazy morning before venturing to dentist for major filling reconstruction. Not looking forward to it, but want to get it over with. Can't believe half term is already half gone! 😞

Done my jobs, bathroom sparkles (and no it's not glitter!).  Bedroom sorted, hoovering done and ....relax, jump onto the reading bench.

Daughter came over today first time I've seen her since last Weds., there was a possibility of a sickness bug so I've kept well away but now it  just seems to be something that upset GD's tummy as no-one else has been unwell.

Daughter said that she was going to City on Friday as smallest GD needs new shoes, so I've unashamedly hitched a lift and will go with her.

I've got my car back, new cam belt, water pump and a tyre. Pleased about that but I think I will need to sit down to open the bill when it comes.

Just practising my French for later in the week............

Soo glad you are having a fab time JCJ, and shopping, you are really going for it........

Did you venture in to big city FF?

Aaah Ali, dropped a muggatea at the weekend, it was up the walls, down the radiator, all over the floor and sofa, soooooooooooo can just imagine the mess with a PINT of pancake mixture................xx

Member

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

My son passed his driving theory test today, to celebrate we decided on pancakes for tea. Made the batter in the blender attachment on the food mixer, I got the pan out, son took the blender off the mixer and somehow managed to unscrew the base.....one pint of pancake batter gushed out all over him , the units, the floor, the walls, the hob..... It's quite amazing how far that stuff goes!

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Had sight seeing tour of city. Mugatea in a cafe. More pottering including an art gallery and having a nosey at the wedding venue - lovely! Then lunch in patisserie place - I had "just a jacket potato with cheese & beans" because I'd had a big breakfast - it was HUGE! YD's lasagna looked amazing. OH announced that he'd like to go off on his own to a bookshop and a music shop we'd passed - yey! We got to do our girly shopping. Had a great time - oh how I've missed that - we used to do it regularly - YD said she's missed it too! 🙂

I bought 2 jumpers and a cardigan to replace ruined ones (one jumper was actually from menswear in JR - the only garment I've ever owned with 'S' for 'small' on the label!! :D) and tried on a few jackets - all my smart jackets are too big. Couldn't find any that didn't gape at the bottom, making them look like they wouldn't fit over my stomach, even though they fit fine. Latest fashion I suppose.

Taxi back to the house for pizza takeaway and salad. Mmmm perhaps the reason all those jackets gaped...... 😛

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

No, I don't usually wake up thinking "yay, let's go to the City". That was wishful thinking but when faced with the need to go and three possible days available, on one of the first two hopefully I might feel "yes, let's go".  On the third day I HAVE to go and that's worse .

JCJ - hope you managed to spend your voucher and get something nice.  Takes a lot of time to get a house just as want it.  Lunch sounds delicious.

Not a lot happening here, it's rained all day and I got pretty wet shopping and sorting out everthing that I needed to do before the car goes to the garage.

So, tomorrow my plans are.... in order..... clean bathroom, tidy and dust bedrooms and hoover.  Kitchen, sitting room and conservatory already clean and tidy, done last weekend.  So after sorting upstairs I can jump on the reading bench with a clear conscience followed by the cross stitch bench, or the recorded tv bench.

Hope you are feeling better Katy. And that your feet are less painful now.

Member

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Do you ever wake up and think "Yeh! Let's go into the City", FF? I sure as **** don't. 'Though I am in Norwich City today! 🙂

Saw the girls' house last night - still very much a work in progress, but it will be lovely; when they've finished painting it all white! We went to a hostelry, 2 minutes drive from the house, for carvery last night. Meeting YD in the city this morning - don't know whether she & I will go off on our own to redeem that 'voucher' because OH threw a strop about it yesterday, (having seemed fine with the idea on Saturday! ) Hopefully, he'll find a 2nd hand bookshop and be totally absorbed for a couple of hours, which is all I can stand shopping for anyway!!

YD has ideas for lunch at a French patisserie place that does lasagne and jacket spuds as well as delicious desserts. Just had unlimited Travelodge breakfast - may wish I'd packed some larger clothes! 🙂

I hope your feet are behaving, Katy.

I daren't ask about the R word, grumpy. When does the show go on?

Hope all other Benchies, (including the silent ones!) are doing ok.

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Been to school,  got it sorted so now three days off.  Teachers in tomorrow and Tuesday so I'll go in on Thursday to clean up after them and then another three days off.

Daughters birthday today, although family get together has been postponed until next weekend as they have a sickness bug hanging around.  I left a card and flowers at the gate and phoned her.  Mug shopping for her pressie is still to happen although she has now made her mind up what she wants. Denby ware.....think that might take care of Christmas as well.......she's got a fancy for a whole set........

Need to go to into City soon, that could be tomorrow or Tuesday or Wednesday or Friday.  One of those days I will wake up and feel... yay let's go to City.

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Glad you are feeling better Katy,  I will take you up on the offer of a lift on the broomstick.  Ferry fares are expensive and it will be quicker to fly!

Sorry about your washing disaster JCJ,  I've done just the same and ruined items I really liked.  So annoying, at least you seem to have recued the trousers.  I have just watched a programme on TV about the Channel and thought I saw you swimming.............are you wearing a pink costume with an overbra of orange feathers?

I've been on the reading bench most of the day with a sojourn on the CBA bench and then the watching tv bench.  Been really lazy.

Tomorrow I plan to go into school and get ahead of things. Not bothered that it's Sunday, would rather have several days off at the end the week when everything is done.

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Never normally use the dryer, Katy, except for towels, bedding and maybe underwear or 'emergency' jeans when it's raining. That's why I don't know how I managed to set washer AND dryer last night! 😞

After a lot of ironing, I have managed to make the trousers look reasonably presentable, I think they may recover in the next wash. The knitwear, however, may be beyond recovery! They still look baggy and creased. Will just have to buy some more, although favourite cardy was from B*S, that is no more! 😞

Banana, oat, raisin & coconut biscuits (or nana biscuits to us!) in the shed, because I've made some for the girls as a housewarming present. They still have no kitchen, so I thought they'd appreciate some home baking! 🙂

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Ankles normal!!!!! woo hoo grumpy, as JCJ states at least something is normal hahahaha!!!

Happy time off,

FF and JCJSmiley Happy!

Tiny bit of nausea, feet still hurt but not soooooooooo intensely, hopefully over the next few days will calm down, have slept quite a lot so am feeling better today, woo hoo!

Not doing anything just "quiet time".

Aaah fingers crossed your washing is ok, so frustrating...............

Perhaps if some are looking dodgy give them another wash and then shake, shake shake, don't dry in tumble dryer if possible.

Have a fab time with your daughter. xx

FF, am travelling via broomstick, do you wish to hitch a lift? xx

Member

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Ankles are the only bit they have found that are normal, Grumpy? Ah well, at least that's something! 😛

Is that a new café on the pier? Years ago, OH & I used to go to that café but every time we've been there at MMU it appeared to be shut.

I'm on the FF bench, a gnat's eyelash away from the CSL bench. Put a 'delicate' wash on at 8pm last night. Flopped in front of tele. At 10:30, when I turned off the tele, I realised I could still hear the washing machine! Don't know whether it was my over-tired mistake or if the washer-dryer was playing silly b.s, but, unless ironing can work miracles, I've ruined half my winter work clothes: 2 new jumpers, a much loved cardigan and 2 new pairs trousers (only one of which was from a charity shop!) because they'd been hot drying for goodness knows how long. A million socks and 2 bras seem to be just about ok.

YD says it's a good reason to cash in on my personal shopping voucher she gave me for my birthday. If OH can be persuaded to "do his own thing" (to put it politely) for a few hours, we'll do that on Monday! 🙂 Her OH will be at work.

Going to spend most of today on the CBA bench. So tired.

Seriously paractising for the celebrations next week or week after depending.... hope your car passes  with no drama JCJ.  Sorting out passport and travel arrangements to meet you.....In Calais?

Nearly there!! I can see the shoreline and smell the croissants and coffee!! 356 metres to go - just over 14 lengths. Will definitely make it next time I go swimming - and several laps of the harbour or a few hundred metres up river?! 😄

Hopefully next week, if I can a) remember it's Thursday, even though I'm not at work b) be a***ed and c) my car isn't still in the garage having catastrophically failed it's MOT!

Hope the Lido goes well today, Katy, I'll be keeping everything crossed that it sorts your pain out. As FF says, can you ask for the next one to be sooner? Don't forget to drink lots (water, not glitterberry juice:p)

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Katy - I wish I could take your pain away but hopefully the lido tomorrow will.  Could you perhaps have it a bit more often to keep it at bay?  Worth asking?

JCJ - just WOW to your neighbour, that is a staggering amount of money to raise.  Well done to her. Scarf, bear and a manicure!  Perhaps OH will donate that to you?

Dresses for GD.  First one an A-line pinafore dress in red needlecord with an appliqued owl on front.  Owl in various materials, plain/patterned/beige/brown with a cream fur, yes, fur body.  Just cries out to be stroked.  Second one, a red/green tartan pinafore dress, more fitted with a drop waist and then a two tiered frilled skirt, edged with red ribbon.

Still waiting for the blue tartan long sleeved, smocked across the chest dress.  In the shop today Daughter gave thought to buying another A-line pinafore with an elephant applique, if it's still there next time we go I bet she'll buy it.........or I will for an Xmas pressie!

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Good grief!! Neighbour just been round. They raised nearly £2000 on Sunday (including £500 donation from a local, large, online-only supermarket company) I, who never win anything, won a scarf in the raffle and guess the name of the bear - a cute teddy with the name of the hospice on its jumper. Apparently called Kandi, but as bears in this house are ALWAYS male, that will probably change! OH won a gel manicure - can't wait to take the p out of him about that!! :D. Added to the chocs, smellies and wine (OH) won on the tombola we did quite well! 🙂

I only entered the guess the name as an afterthought - when I went round again in the afternoon, because next door neighbour wanted to go and wouldn't go on her own. I saw the cute bear - which I'd missed earlier - and had a guess!

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Four more days - only three with children - I can do this! Snzzzz

Member

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Only a week to go at school actually only four days now.  Can't wait, I need to work 4 hours over the five days of half term. Will have three days off and work two hours for the other two days. One of them needs to be Friday because of the water checks.

Daughter and I going tomorrow to a local shop run by a Mum and two daughters that love sewing. They make baby/toddler clothes that are just beautiful, all hand made, even hand-stitched smocking on the dresses, how unusual is that?  AND all they want is to cover their costs so the dresses are reasonably priced. (Really they are far too cheap.)  Daughter ordered three dresses, GD's measurements were taken and we are going over tomorrow for a fitting,  This is bespoke tailoring to GD's size. Seriously if they put their business on the Internet or if they were in London they could get £80 - £100 for a dress or even more. I told the lady in the shop (one of the daughters) that they were far too cheap.  She was adamant they just enjoyed making them and just wanted to cover their costs.

My GD will be the best dressed toddler in the South West!

Coffee and walnut cake in the shed. Neighbours' sale seems to be going well. The heavy rain has stopped and the sun's come out, thank goodness! They have tents/gazebos up but it would have been much more miserable if the rain had carried on!

I'm going to make the most of the sunshine and go and tidy up the plant tubs on the front ready for the winter plants next week - if I can get out of this chair.....!

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

My half term's going to be expensive too.  Cam belt and new tyres for car and birthday present for daughter.   As we have totally different tastes I can only surprise her with an idea and then leave her to choose.  About two months ago she mentioned that she would like to smash all her mismatching mugs and get new ones.

Lightbulb moment, I would buy her a matching set for her birthday!  Sat on that thought until this week and then told her and took her to a local seaside place that had hundreds of mugs in different shops,

All we managed to buy was a fish and chip lunch that was alright but not a patch on our fish and chips at MMU4.

The search for mugs goes on.

Lovely day today, books read, daughter called in for a cuppa, recorded tv watched and homemade healthy burgers eaten.  Tomorrow ......much of the same, I expect.

Just found these one-legged glasses. I think they must be Katy's. Lol.

Just delivered a whole load of homemade jam to a neighbour who's having a charity sale tomorrow in aid of BCC and a local Hospice. She's one of us! Just finished RT. I hope I managed to give her some hope for the next few years, at least, and that they raise loads of cash for both worthy causes. I'll nip across tomorrow and buy some cake - well, it'd be rude not to?? 😁

Who said anything about typecasting, Grumpy? Do you want to borrow my broomstick? 😛

I hope your feet are less ouchy now, Katy. When is your next Lido?
