Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

I will be in the West Country last two weeks in July........I live here!! Grumpy, I mean Marj, (how are we all going to remember new names for us all!) if you get to my neck of the woods (East Devon, Dorset, Somerset borders) I'm up for a southern meeting to practise for MMU.
Incidentally MMU is ONLY four weeks away! Bought a rucksack today. I decided that I am going to travel light and the suitcase that I have is just a bit too big and what would I do with it on the train?

Katy, a puncture in your wheelchair? You'r not having the best of luck are you? Hope it didn't cause too many complications.

Keep the songs coming, I go round humming them and no-one realises my words are different to theirs.

Unexpected day off tomorrow. All my school are going to the Roman Baths in Bath, so I asked my haed teacher if it was ok to go in the am instead of pm and she told me I could have the day off as the school would still be clean after tonight. YAY!! Now, what shall I do.............?

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Frooof! It's hot! OH out for evening, so I went straight from work to Sainsbury's (other......). Had baked spud & salad for early dinner just before 5, did the 3-week shop, and now I'm home, in the garden, having put it all away. Happily devouring ring donuts (yes, plural, but it's OK because they have calorie free centres - a bag of 5 of them was reduced to 30p, so it would have been verging on criminal not to put some in the trolley??!) 😛

My car computer claimed it was 32° on the way back. I love my aircon!

8 more get-ups, by which time it'll be raining - OR boiling hot as YD & I will be nowhere near the sea, when we go camping, for the first time ever. She & I love the sea; OH not so keen, which is why we have a tradition of going without him! This year, though, she's desperate for mountains because Norfolk is so flat. It's a bit far from Norwich to any other coast when you only have 5 days!

I'm soooooo ready for my hols. It's hard to be at work in this hot weather, when the kids don't want to be there either! Oh well, I suppose it could be worse - imagine working in a kitchen!!

Bum*er about the wheelchair puncture. What next? Or is that it for your bad luck now? x

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

'I'm a Benchie gir-ur-url in a Benchie wur-ur-urld'...'like a rhinestone shoe girl la-la'...I walk around the house singing/humming these random songs! No wonder my son says 'You're a funny woman, Mum'!
I had a session at the Body Shop yesterday - for a fresher, more summery look! Aah, it's all about sweeping on & building up layers! The assistant brushed on Seaweed matt moisturiser, then a primer, then mineral face powder, then eye concealer/highlighter, then eye shadows, then bronzer, then blusher, then did eyebrows with powder shadow, then lip stain - I was well and truly made up! I don't think I will be doing so many 'layers', but eyes looked good, so may consider using eye shadow again.
Today I mashed an avocado for home-made face pack - nice, really cooling - then patted on sweet almond oil. Will look radiant for MMU!

Morning all
Lovely day here, sun but no breeze so will have to take Millie Senior Dog for a walk where there is shade and a bit of a blow.
Tittooos - I intend to keep mine, as badges of survival, so it just goes to show how different we all are AND THAT'S ABSOLUTELY FINE!!!!!
Camping w/e with friend/son in Moffat i.e. Revcat Land, and it was lovely. Wee son aged 6 is a delight and loves Millie. His elder sister is in Africa with Daddy but son reckons he got the best deal i.e. playing with Millie.
After a few meetings this week, will be off on Big Hols on Friday, aiming for the West Country ---- anyladies down there last 2 weeks of July? Happen we could do the southern version of the MMU......
Hugs and mugsatea for everyone who needs cheering up

Not partial to tattoos either....................have been told about a lady who had an mx and had flowers tattooed over her scars, she feels so confident now, such a personal decision so would go with what ever makes YOU feel good!
Am off to supermarket today woo hoo, ED coming to get me then she will push me in a wheelchair cause can't walk any distance really soooooooooooooooo that should be an adventure...............will just hum "barbie" song as I go.
Another gorgeous day here wouldn't it be lovely if we have this weather for the MMU?
Enjoy your day RevCat, could do with a really nice pub lunch!
So hard Jane.
Ali, if you are near the shed, will join you for breakfast xx

I like the henna hand tattoos the girls have before marriage, they are incredibly intricate and absoutely beautiful - and they fade.
Sun's shining here, I'm eating my breakfast with the doors open admiring the garden. I get to work at home today, how good is that? Have a good day everyone, top your vitamin D levels up but no sunburn!

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Have to confess I am not a tattoo lover... and like Jane see young people and wonder what they will look like in a few decades times. For all that, I will be signing up for tattooing of my recon as the 'final stage' as I've been amazed how much more confident each phase has made me. My understanding is that medical tattoos are "semi-permanent" i.e. they last a couple of years or so and then start to fade... from what others have told me once it's done and you are happy you usually have an 'open access' set up for top ups if needed/wanted. In my more mischievous moments I think having 'vorsprung durch technik' written in a curve under the recon would be a fitting tribute to my German PS... but no way I'd actually do it!

Thinking of you, Jane, as daughter moves out - big change for both/all of you. Hope it is not a bug but just tiredness.

Twelve years to pensionable age? More than that for me! And when I get there it will be party time, not because of the pensions (which will be diddy) but because I'll be there to do so and have well and trully beaten my survival stats!!!

Done my new arm exercises (can it really make a difference to how it feesl that quickly?) Slapping on the factor 50 and heading off for a hopefully-not-boring meeting in Half Way Town, and will miss my Benchie friend who is confined to quarters practising her limbo tehcnique...

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

The thought of a nipple tattoo makes me cringe! I'll stick to the one I've got!!! Can't help tinking that when these youngsters with tatoos are older and their skin is saggy... you can imagine the rest of the sentence!!

Grumpy OW for sure these days!

Daughter leaves home this week... boo hoo....

Having gone 2 years without a bug (and all winter) it's painful to swallow today and my ear's sore... in THIS HEAT? Really?

Ah well... have a good day on whichever bench you park today... I'm off to the boring meeting bench...

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

JCJ in my work I see a lot of young girls with tattoos, and I always ask if they hurt! Generally they say no, unless it's near a boney area like on the foot. I really didn't want the rads tattoos, I know they needed to do them but to me they're more obvious than my recon boob. Ah well, it's a minor niggle! If I'm brave enough to have the tattood nipple you never know I might pluck up the courage for a little bow on my cleavage. Before you know it I'll have a Winnie the Pooh on my arm and a butterfly on my shoulder blade (they're the ones I see most often, and their children's names listed on their back)

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Just spent a lovely hour in the garden knitting and reading David Mitchell's book (the comedian, not the novelist!). Very funny. Feel much better now. Looking forward to my holidays. 9 more work 'get ups'.

Fire up the barbie. I could murder an alliburger!

(Sorry Aqua!!)
I'm a barbie girl in a Benchland world
Boobs are plastic, life's fantastic
Look at my new hair, alligators everywhere
Come on Benchies let's go barbie

Ps agree with you about the tittoos being painful, Ali, it made me wonder why anyone would CHOOSE to have them. I always feel slightly sick when I see someone with their whole arm/leg/face tattooed. Just think of how much that must have hurt! Why would you??

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Yep, not so scared of it now, it does help to get someone's first hand experience of it. My career as a glamour model may well be back on track 😉 (NOT!!)
Lovely BBQ weather here too, had a nice piece of swordfish (was on offer this weekend) and a salad and then two of my son's home made cookies...oops.... I've asked him if he will send me food parcels home when he's away at uni because I will miss his baking, he said "Mum I think you've got that the wrong way around!"

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

So interesting RevCat and hopefully Ali, you will feel a little less scared! Always good when someone can tell you their experience and saves the brain "doing the crazy stuff".
68????????????? Gee Whizz, well there's a thought! Way things are going you'll be 98 when you can officially retire, can imagine how easy it would be to run after children, educate and have fun times everyday at that age!
When do your schools come off?
Will get my limbo on Wed as they have to order it in................when I was having plaster redone today I was given a leaflet which mentions limbos...............a secret until you wet yourself, tee hee!
Come off the guilty bench, will need to have a barbie weather is soooooooooo good and alligators are fat enough xx

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Ah now you see the tattooing really sounds painful, the teeny tiny rads dots hurt! Lol, I know....big wussie. Probably because I was a bit stressed about rads, all that beeping and having to keep still.... And of course it all turned out to be ok.Actually I quite fancy having one of my rads tittoos turned into a more decorative tattoo, maybe a tiny pink BC bow, but they'd have to knock me out first. Man up woman!!!

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Can't hlep you decide, Ali, as I was lucky enough to "only" lose about 1/3 of a boob, so no new nipple required.

I hope you take time to sort out what YOU want, and that you are happy with the decision/results. Glad yours was a success, RC.

Limbos on prescription eh? My OH wasn't told THAT!! It will make showering easier, Katy, so don't fret. Try not to be tempted into limbo dancing either...... No you CAN'T fit under the bathroom door! 😛

My day started off sh*t as I thought it was Sunday when I woke up; couldn't understand why the alarm was going off! 😞 Then, as I was leaving the house, I realised that I'd forgotten to get the milk for school (I do the staff tea/coffee/biscuit supplies!) so I'd have to detour via the shop.

I'm really struggling to get through these last few weeks (and to think, this time last year I hadn't even done a full week back at work and I didn't feel ready to break up for the summer!) I get home to a letter from my pension fund informing me that in 2025 (TWENTY FIVE?? THAT'S ANOTHER TWELVE YEARS!!) I can claim my County Council pension. It'll be another 3 years after that before my state pension kicks in as my birthday is the end of April and the pensionable age creeps up, annually, at the beginning of April until I'm 68! 😞 (by then it might be even higher!)

I cannot begin to imagine still doing my job by the time I'm 68 - it's a struggle now!
Pass that chocolate cake, someone, it's my turn to feel sorry for myself now!
Hey ho. Rant over - I'll just rest awhile on the guilty bench. I should be grateful I'm WELL enough to go to work. I should count myself lucky I've GOT a job.

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

One other thought.... some people opt for tattooing without a nipple recon... they simply draw one on and by cunning shading can get a good effect!

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Thanks RevCat. I never thought to ask him about photos, that's a good idea. I did wonder about a prosthetic nipple, maybe that's a good start. It doesn't sound as scary as I'd built it up to be, so thank you for that - the whole issue of projection hadn't even crossed my mind! And I'm sure even single vicars have nipples that react to the cold.... 😉
I think I need to go in with an open mind, rather than thinking I don't want it, especially since it doesn't sound like a major procedure...and if it can be done under a local that's one of my main worries dealt with. Ok, not so scarey now 🙂

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Hi Ali, well as the proud possessor of nipplet which wowed my BCN today, here are my answers...

There are various techniques, from nipple sharing via skate-flaps star-flaps and t-flaps to free skin/fatflaps. I had the last of these as real nipple is too diddy to share and my PS won't do origami flaps on irradiated skin. Answers are based on my epxerience, which is much the same as the other flaps I believe.
1) No, not at all... it is done under local and takes about an hour.
2) None. Well as long as it takes for the local to wear off. May be a litlte bit sore depending where they take it from, but nothing otc pain meds won't fix. I wnet out for coffee and cake afterwards, then back to work.
3) I wondered that too... but I trust my PS. She told me that symmetry would be slightly off as she was working with the centre of the 'patch' in my recon (where the areola used to be) and my uplifted boob has not yet re-drooped. Tbh it is only out by a few mm so not far off what nature supplied. Five weeks on it has settled and looks amazing (my BCN was convinced it was a nipple share!).
Sizewise, the finished article is very simlar to the real one in terms of diameter, and in terms of projection I suppose about the same as semi-erect (vicars probably aren't meant to know that, especially single ones!!).

Couple of thoughts...
Have you tried a prosthetic nipple? I haven't had one, but they come in all shapes and sizes, and would help you decide if it might be for you. My hosp will even custom make these by moulding from the remaining real one!!
Have you seen any photos of his work? Or would he let you speak to any of his patients? Most PS seem photo obsessed (well mine is anyway) so it may be feasible to see some pics.
PM me if you have further questions... I was very dubious about getting this done but am absolutely thrilled with it, and it has given me loads more confidence!

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Ladies, can we talk nipples please? It's almost a year since my mx and immediate implant rebuild (just like the bionic woman). I've got an appointment with my lovely surgeon on Wednesday to check the implant (hopefully get mammo results too) and discuss a nipple. Thing is, not sure I want one. I had a skin sparing mx so there is a little bit of aureole left, albeit colourless. The implant side sits a little higher and perkier than the natural side, and I've got used to it looking blank. I think I'm bothered by several things:
1) will it hurt (I'm a wuss)
2) does it take a lot of recovery time (I'm self employed and only just getting back on track after last year!)
3) this is the biggie - what if I don't like it? If it sits higher or looks different to the other side will I be more aware of something I can mostly ignore? And it will be higher, the aureole already is.
My hubby says its up to me, he doesn't mind at all.
Apart from that I'm actually feeling very happy that all I've got to worry about at the moment is wether to do this or not, very thankful for that 🙂

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Glad the new plaster is OK, Katy, and great that you can get the limbo on prescription - why do they never tell us these things?

Well, it was very weird sitting in the waiting area of the 'one stop clinic' surrounded by terrfied people waiting to find out if they will be joining this lcub no one wants to join. Felt a bit of a fraud as I knew I was fine... and it was obvous I wasn't one of them when I got taken to a different room! Anyhow, it is confirmed as mild lymphoedema (5-10% on the measurements my BCN took) so she has given me the BCC booklet with exercises and SLD to do, and has reminded me about skin care (which I already do anyway) and will see me again in six weeks to see how it is. If it gets worse, I can phone her and get referred to specialist straight away. We had a good catch-up and she asked to see nipplet after I told her it has been done - she was well impressed and honestly thought they'd done nipple sharing! That made me very happy. So, off to sit on the chillax bench with a muggatea and will start the little exercises.

Anyone seen MM or MMM or nanniereeree recently? Benchland seems to be a lttle more empty again! Hope that's a good sign.

Huggles to all who need them.

That's me just back! All done nurses so kind, got to see foot which is looking very good, minimal swelling, little bruising and around 15 stitches which will be taken out next week. Feeling oh so tired so away to have a nap, tears are dried now, just felt soooooooo silly yesterday. Can get the limbo on prescription, so Mum will pick it up for me today or tomorrow, woo hoo! But WILL still be terrified to have a shower!
All the best RevCat, you should be there now!!
Beautiful sunny day here, chocolate cake, strawberries and lashings and lashings of cream in our new look shed and thank you again girls, you do make things a lot better! xx

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Just finished watching Wimbledon. What a match indeed! So glad I didn't watch it live. I really didn't expect Andy to win but I'm so glad he did. Now what do I watch? What do I do in the evenings? Can I still eat strawberries and cream?

Katy, they ought to give out things to keep plasters dry when they put them on. Fortunately I've never been plastered (or not in that sense anyway) but I would imagine it's nearly impossible to do ones ablutions without getting it wet!

Have a good week, ladies.

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Oh Katy, it's just a blip. It all seems like the end of the world because you're still getting over the anaesthetic. They'll sort you out with a new plaster tomorrow - and things will seem less bleak. Don't let them get cross with you, if they'd told you about limbo - or any of the similar products which I'm sure are availabe - then you wouldn't have got it wet in the first place!!

Hugs and vast quantities of tea/coffee/beverage of choice/cake/strawberries/cream/biscuits piled up around the CSL bench for you, along with a HUMUNGOUS pile of specially embroidered ( with "it WILL get better") hankies.

WOW! What a match! It's alright ladies, you can come out now. Missing the tennis bench already! 😛

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Katy, my OH was recommended one of these, by the plasterer at the hospital, when he broke his leg. Easy to order online and arrived very quickly. Full leg cover cost about £15, was an absolute godsend, enabling him to shower much more easily, and then I sold it on Ebay for more than we paid for it! Bargain! I recommended them to my sister when she broke her hand, and she agreed the arm version was brilliant too.

I'm here!!
Songs are sooooooooooooo fabulous and thank you soooooooooooo much for your good wishes and kindness!
Foot throbbing, my day consists of getting up, lying down, slathering foot in cling film and plastic bags so I can shower, lying down, falling asleep blah, blah, blah! It's all a HUGE effort!
But reading your posts today has brought a MASSIVE smile to my face, what a tonic!
My shoe minus rhinestones!
Glad your nipplet looks so good and all the best for tomorrow RevCat , hope Lynn does not want to follow you around cause she is such a nuisance.
"Am a rhinestone shoe girl lalalalalalalala lala" off to have a cup of tea and swallow painkillers before I nod off AGAIN.
Thanks again girls, you've made my day xx

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Brill song JCJ... stuck in my brain now for the day!!

Finally last bit of 'scabby stuff' feel off nipplet and I snipped the knots off the last of the undissolved stitches... sure they should not have been left in for five weeks, but hey ho, they are out now. Nipplet is remarkably realisitic looking, even if it has 'sun rays' where the stitiches were pulling on the skin. Hope PS doesn't tell me off about stitches! See BCN tomorrow about the is-it-isn't-it-Lynn arm... will be good to know for sure.

There is no heat wave in west central Scotland (or noth west Scotland as the BBC seems to classify us)... it is a nice morning by our standards but still some grey clouds. Will be "not watching" Murray as he seem to do better when I don't watch! Saw a naff-but-funny photo shopped joke on FB today - this is the first all Scottish Wimbledon final... Andy Murray and Jock Ovic (sounds more like Scotland Ireland to me, but never mind!).

Not heard any more from Katy - hope she is resting and feeling better.

round 2 today with YD and SIL.
Have a lovely Sunday all

It's gone very quiet in Benchland! I hope it's because everyone is enjoying the summer, at last, and/or the tennis. Well done Bartoli. COME ON ANDY!

As promised, a new toon for MMU
With apologies to Glen Campbell!

Like a rhinestone shoe girl
Striding out in shoes that are star-spangled heel to toe
Like a rhinestone shoe girl
Getting laughs and support from people I don't even know
And Benchies comin' up on the train

Well, I really don't mind the rain
And a smile can hide all the pain
But you're down when you're ridin' the train that's going the wrong way
And I dream of the things we'll do
With onesies, tiaras and rhinestones all over our shoes
There's been a load of compromisin'
On the road to our horizon
But we’re gonna be where the lights are shinin' on us

Like a rhinestone shoe girl
Striding out in shoes that are star-spangled heel to toe
Rhinestone shoe girl
Gettin' laughs and support from people I don't even know
And Benchies comin' up on the train

FADE
Like a rhinestone shoe girl

Get well soon Katy, I hope you'll soon be back on your feet - with or without the rhinestones! 🙂

Tried twice to post last night but my Nexus (other equally annoying tablets are available!) ate both attempts. Too tired then, and now, to bother fighting with it. I'll maybe try later when I've got time to put the proper computer on! It was our version of "Rhinestone Cowboy". 🙂

2 young women were having a loud convetsation in the showers after swimming last night. They talked (shouted?) about a night out they'd had and one of them said "Next time, I think we'll steer clear of the sequinned brigade". Well! I was quite offended! Guess they won't be coming to MMU then? 😛

Cheered myself up, on the way home, by singing along at the top of my tone deaf voice to American Pie, on the car radio, with the windows wound down! 🙂

I will be back on the working bench tomorrow as off to work I go, so pleased, as I have clear margins after 2nd WLE, and feel more like (normal) self again. The waiting bench is still lurking though, apps and dads to look forward to, yipee!

“Do anything that you wanna do, but uh-uh,
Honey, lay off of my shoe and
Don't you step on my rubber shoe.
You can do anything but lay off of my rubber shoe.” A la Elvis.
“This boot is made for walkin', that's just what it will do, One of these days this boot is gonna walk all over you.” A la Nancy Sinatra.
“People say she's crazy She got diamonds on the sole of her shoe Well that's one way to lose these Walking blues... Diamonds on the sole of your shoe.” A la Paul Simon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyUol3hOb5E

That'll be easier than hopping about on one leg - ~VERY tricky in knee-highs?! - I'm sure we can affix some flashing lights to aforementioned - or some rhinestones - or both. Maybe even some wheels or a skate blade? 🙂

I've just got in, put on the TV and it's two sets all. I can't watch it either. The last few years I've got superstitious about watching Andy as every time I have done so, he has lost. So I can't watch him or I'll jinx him. So I'm watching my recording of Djokovic.
