Had a lovely day with esteemed and honorable RevCat, talking so much the time flew by and we didn't manage the customary muggatea, but did have yummy lunch! Def solos for next Bencholympics, think I'm a winner!
Spotted RevCat sprinting, yes SPRINTING for her train was superly duperly impressed.
Think I have my totally dopey head on, whilst waiting for my train decided to phone ED chatting happily away my train came into station and departed, I was sitting on a bench only about 6 feet away.................had to wait another 45 mins for the next one!!
A greek doggie, how lovely ST, soooooooo glad you had a fab holiday!
Ali, I'm an hour 40 mins away would be very nice to see you and the camels in the flesh especially as we now know you were a child bride xx
Edinburgh about 1 hour from me, so definitely doable with a bit of notice 🙂
Hi Ali-child-bride... I wonder if all your fingers are bigger but you only notice it on your ring finger because it will be more pronounced there? I can recall being told by a lymphoedema specialist that she liked people wearing rings as they were a good gauge of whether fingers were swelling - I stopped wearing a ring (right hand) because it kept getting stuck! Kathy and I first noticed swelling in our hands - the bit between the thumb and first finger - long before anything was dx. I don't know how it is where you are, but for me the first contact is my BCN - I mentioned my 'tight' 'heavy' and 'achey' arm and even though it was 'only' 2cm bigger than my good arm, she referred me for a sleeve. The orthotics lady easily spotted it and said it was better to get onto it before it got significant. There are humongous waiting lists here for specialist lymphoedemea nurses, but at least we have them.
So sorry to hear about your friend ST - it is a very cruel and unpredictable disease - hope she is getting good care.
Had a fun time with Katy today - she and I are going to pursue solo flushing careers now as we no longer synchronise as we once did! The foot looked fine and she fair zoomed around in that chariot of hers!!
I got a murder mystery jigsaw on CRUK shop - felt appropriately Benchland-ish!!
Oh yes, and the Commonwealth Games ballot gave me zero tickets In fact so far I only know one person in Glasgow who got any.... go figure!!
Welcome back ST, glad you had a good holiday and good scan results!! 🙂
I think you should call the dog Gamoto ("gamm oh toe") as, according to Google translate, that is Greek for Buggerit! 🙂 Sounds quite nice as a name too?!
I've hatched a cunning plan. Need to do the food shop, so I've suggested to OH that he meets me in Sainsbury's ( blah blah blah) for dinner and I'll shop after - it's not good policy to shop hungry, one buys too much?! *innocent face*.
Hugs for your friend and all who are affected by her secondary dx. IFHC too! 😞
Hi Ladies I am back from Skiathos - had a fabulous holiday and planning on going back next year. Now most normal people bring back booze and **bleep**s when the go away. Not me! We are adopting a Greek dog from an animal shelter. Now we will have our very own Buggerit - except we think we are going to call her either Esse or Hella. She will start her road trip to the UK on October 18th and we will have to drive down to Dover to pick her up. 4 and a half hours drive so will have to try and find some where dog friendly to stay over.
Got my letter regarding mammogram and subsequent ultrasound scan - all is well. Had another laser treatment on scars left by open wound - another 3 treatments to come. Even after just one I can feel the scar tissue softening!
Swapping car this afternoon for a more dog friendly one. Can't have greek speaking dog sliding around on black leather seats trying to jump out when the top is down!
Hope everyone is well? I have speed read through the posts and know I have missed Jane's birthday - anything else?
Bit of bad news from one of the "starting chemo in August 2011" ladies - she has mets in her spine, lung and liver. IFHC !!!
Shove up on the virtuios bench, Grumpy (is that the same as the Smug bench, or a different one?); I just defrosted the freezer and simultaneously 'recycled' a load of pears that were destined for the bin at school, because the kids won't eat them, into chocolate pear cake: I can guarantee THAT will get eaten (and it won't go anywhere near the fussy kids! 🙂 ) Freezer's been needing doing for months and was on my to-do list for the summer hols, but I ran out of time due to decorating! I decided I really MUST do it, before I do the next supermarket shop, to be able to fit any shopping in it around the ice bergs and heaps of fruit and veg from the allotment!
I piled up the drawers full of frozen stuff outside, in the shade and breeze, with blankets over them. Mis- judged it, because the sun came around before I'd finished chopping the ice off the shelves. Race against time before everything started to thaw. Made it!! Phew!
Also stripped and re-made our bed and washed and hung to dry, and that's all AFTER my mercy mission to rescue stranded OH from a roadside 5 miles away!! (aw! shucks! No angel emoticon on here! 🙂 )
CBA bench here I come, that's me done for today!
You are clever JCJ so cute!!
Had a fabulous night, read book for a while, turned off the light and was still awake at 4 am, grrrrrrrrrr, have no idea what that was all about, but seemed to be flushing on and off for Britain, soooooo annoying!
Not too impressed with shoes.........................creativity well and truly over!
Quick nip over to supermarket and that will be me done for today, bottom firmly perched on the "slightly grumpy, moany, whiny cause have had no sleep" bench xx
Welcome back Rev! We know who (not?) to come to when we need a skipper for the barge between Benchland and DDW?!
Spent the weekend so far alternating between the reading bench and the craft bench with my knitting and my Kindle (other....). Read Eye of Osiris by R. Austin Freeman. Finished the guinea pig .
https://forum.breastcancercare.org.uk/t5/media/gallerypage/image-id/656i57F158F0FAFA38BA
Started knitting an elephant.
OH just rang - he was supposed to be volunteering somewhere - clearing some park or something - he's broken down and wants me to take water and coolant to him, so I'd better get dressed! Why do I pay the RAC?
On the Virtuous Bench, having spent the day sorting the garden, lifting, dividing and replanting...... and the spare plants have gone next door (hint....) for their front garden.
Hello Rev, welcome back (waves furiously)
The Snotty Dog is still snotty and bubbley but well in herself as they say.
Bedtime soon methinks
Grumpy
Hi Benchies, back from my travels! The sublime (BCC Scotland fashion show) to the ridiculous (me trying to steer a canal boat). I haven't yet tracked back through all the zillions of updates in Benchland, but hope all are OK.
Katy I'm still on for Monday - will email you!
FF, fab news about car, big sigh of relief, you will now be able to be very crafty!
grumpy, is expensive but if it keeps you safe, tyres are well worth it! How's millie now??
Looked up books Jen sound good!!
CH, excellent you have rehomed your "boys", now they can be as loud as they like!!
Well, dyed shoes, mmmmmmmmmmm, not sure, have given them 2 coats, now will they be better when I stick the glitter and rhinestones on??? xx
Everyone seems to be getting very creative in benchland, - makes me feel that I should be starting the Christmas jumpers for the grandchildren again. Trouble is if I start too soon they will all have grown out of them by the time they need to wear them, they grow so fast! Last year one of the boys was out shopping with his mum (YD)and saw a 'festive' jumper he wanted. His mum piped up, 'we don't need to buy one of those, nanny can knit them.' Main problem was that I hadn't knitted anything for nearly 15 years. I had to revise quickly and produce 4 jumpers in double quick time.
Had to rehome my chickens that turned into cockerels yesterday - taken them to ED's daughter who currently lives on a small farm so the **bleep**-a- doodling is less likely to annoy the neighbours. Replaced them with some point of lay hens so I WILL eventually get my eggs. At the moment the new hens are bullying the couple of younger chicks they have joined so got to keep an eye on them.
C
Enjoy 'Meet & Greet' Grumpy! How's the kitchen coming on Kay? I bought some red & white wool yesterday to make finger puppets which can double as Xmas tree decorations - ooh, wonder what they'll be??
FF, getting new books always cheer me up too! You're welcome to join me in the Benchland holiday home this weekend, to rest your back in a reclining massage lounger with heated blanket & shelf of books nearby, close to the champagne fridge & chocolate fountain. Nibbles already stashed in the Tardis fridge.
I got 2 ordered books Katy, and couldn't resist another 2 off the library shelves!
I started reading an autobiography of the poet Dannie Abse. Always liked his poetry since school & got him to sign a book for me at a reading a few years back. Also interesting to me as he talks about Wales' social history, and some of the people he mentions I've crossed paths with too. Also got a book of his poems.
The novels are 'The Blue Flower' by Penelope Fitzgerald and 'On the Black Hill' by Bruce Chatwin. Will let you know what I think when I've read them!
Hope chemo isn't too bad Benedictus... and Supertrouper, where are you??? Would like to know all about Skiathos trip!
Now on the " what a wonderful car" bench. Passed MOT, nothing wrong and NO advisories. Woo-hoo!! Got it back in time to go to work so didn't have to implement Plan B, which was just as well as there WAS no Plan B.
Also on the TGIF bench as my back has been aching badly for the last couple of days so I will be glad to rest it tomorrow. I can't walk for much more than 100 yards without having to stop. I think painkillers will be required on Sunday when I shall be on my feet all day.
Hope you all have a good weekend.
Car at garage for new winter tyres - £450!!! GULP!!! but essential up here.....
Snotty Dog is now making strange noises as she snorts away merrily: it must be a design fault, you can't approach a dog with a tissue and say 'BLOW', they just lick instead!
Museum private view tonight, on Meet and Greet, so will have to iron a frock - or something.
grumpy
Aaah, so Per Una are funny sizes.... I thought it was me !! Glad that the bras seem to fit you ok, there is nothing worse than an uncomfortable bra ( well, yes there is but you know what I mean).
Sunday is the day of the Stitch/hobbycrafts fayre and I am certain to spend loads of money on beads, buttons, ribbons etc. that will be put in the craft drawer and may or may not ever see the light of day again
Daughter will spend loads of money on card making paraphernalia and Daughter-in-law will follow us around wondering which hobby to take up!
Sitting on the "I want my car back" bench Half an hour until I can phone and find out if it's passed or failed. Patience....patience......
Won't need to borrow grumpy's bras woo hoo genies have arrived!! After tugging, pushing and pulling have managed to get it sitting nicely. Difference immediately underarm and shoulders def comfy............see how things go
!
Per Una are funny sizes FF, what are you doing on Sun????
Aaaaaah JCJ peace perfect peace, well kind of once you got rid, terrible but when you are looking forward to quiet time and it's interrupted grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
I got one of my books yesterday too Jen, what you reading?
Kay wonky mugs and mobiles??? Pictures please.
Have worn 5 different pairs of shoes this week, have come over all creative (obviously catching?) and have decided to dye a pair, oh gee whizzzzzzz, trying to be superly duperly confident, I can do it???????????? Can't I????????????
Will eventually move from the "CBA" bench today, when I can be bothered, gray and rainy here so not inspiring xx
Rained on and off all day so bedding ended up in the tumble drier but at least it's now dry.
I decided that I would go up into town today and have a look in the charity shops. Hoped I might find a pair of jeans suitable for work. I found two pairs of Per Una, sizes 12 and 14, looked as good as new. Tried them both on, neither fitted, size 12 much too tight and size 14 far too big Why don't they make size 13? Cheered myself up by buying 5 books
Car is in for it's MOT tomorrow (can't believe it's a year since I got it) I hope it passes without costing a small fortune. Need the money to spend on Sunday!!
So much for the place to myself!! I had no sooner clicked 'post' on that last one when the doorbell went. (OK pedants! It didn't ACTUALLY GO anywhere, but someone rang it!) A friend we've not seen for YEARS, who had come around for a chat. He's only just left. Really like him but really..................? Couldn't he have timed it better?? He's only gone now because he asked me if i still go swimming and I said, "Yes,Thursdays, and I leave in half an hour! (Not going to go now because I've not even had any dinner yet!! - never mind enjoyed any of that glorious solitude!! - *guilty conscience now doubled*)
Do you want me to knot (or even knIt?) a wonky mug cardy for your wonky mug, Kay? 😄
2 out of my 3 ordered books have arrived at the library, so am just off to town to collect them using my FREE BUS PASS ...yes, being a DOLLS does have its advantages!
Can't say I'm looking much like a TEDDIES member today though - must try harder!
JCJ, sounds like you need some relaxation time - p'raps a short swim and then home with feet up to enjoy some peace?
No offence taken Katy (all the fences have already been taken and dumped near the 'Stupid things' thread?!) - I admit it. I AM over-endowed - but with them properly supported at least I'm in proportion - squash them and my stomach looks huge!
I don't advise you wearing Grumpy's bras - she needs them! You can't BOTH wear them (neither of you are that under-endowed?? ) I suggest you get your own. 😛
Hehehe I'm in a silly mood. I've had ICT with the ****ing netbooks and irritating children all day. Everything that could go wrong did, repeatedly, in several places at once!
OH in London until late tonight though, so I've got the place to myself. 🙂 Moral dilemma: should I stay here and enjoy the peace, quiet and control of the remote, or be a good girl and go swimming?
Just popped back didn't mean to say over endowed meant WELL endowed, big red face, going into town now before I embarrass myself any further xx
Ee i ee i o, that'll be in my head all day now jen!
Excellent scan results, one more to go, fingers crossed for you.
Aaaaaaah JCJ read some reviews regarding genie and some said if you were over endowed, may not be ideal, that's a real shame! As I don't have that problem am hoping they will be really good if not will try grumpys.
Have sunshine here today, has been misty last couple of days, it's chilly but pretty, off into town today am in the "treat myself" mode just now??????? That's bad behaviour on my part hee hee!! So staying clear of clothes shops though do want a pair of joggers for wearing around the house, bought a pair of men's ones last year from a bargain shop beginning with P were fine till I tumbledried them......................ended mid way up my leg, not a pretty sight even when wearing my knee highs................xx
ch280, good to be able to eat & drink more easily.
Grumpy, Millie is causing you some worry! Hope she hasn't got something stuck in her nose/throat? My sister's dog had a long piece of fishing line type thread stuck in throat, so wasn't able to eat hardly at all - the vet didn't pick up on it. My sister managed to locate it & removed it herself - very gingerly, I may add!
You've done a good job on the decorating JCJ.
I had a look at the genie bras, and the non-adjustable straps put me off. Having said that, I am not that 'big' so may give them a whirl!
Enough people enrolled for sculpture class so will be starting on 9th Oct.
They're on the craft bench every day
E-I-E-I-O
Benchies merrily crafting away
E-I-E-I-O
With a knit, knit here
And a knit, knit there
Here a knit, there a knit
Everywhere a knit knit
Creative Benchies you might say!
E-I-E-I-O
...with a stitch, stitch here
...with a prompt, prompt there
...with a cup-cake here
...with a clay pot there
ETC!
Herceptin No. 12 tomorrow - only 6 to go now. Heart scan was fine and I don't have to have another one (hooray!). Have arranged for new, female oncologist and will get MRI result from her re. bone thing .
Bras - I buy the soft sports bras from ASDA ( other shops etc) cos they have stretchy cups, broad straps and 3 hooks on the back band, comfy, cheap and wash well. They are quite pretty and neat, but only in black or white. Also you might be able to get their support vests, nice under thin tops and a bit of extra warmth for the winter OR as a vest in summer, but rather narrow straps.
Snotty Dog is all bubbly cos the mucus is flowing - it is not a pretty sight!!!
Grumpy
Mug cosies take a couple of evenings to knit, maybe 3 with a bobble hat.
I'm really disappointed with the bras. As I suspected, 1 cup size does NOT fit all. I'm an 'E' cup and the bra really squashes even the smaller boob, while the shoulder straps are too long (and not adjustable!) so there's not enough uplift - not at all flattering. So much for the advertised 'no more curling bands', I only had it on for 5 mins and the bottom band had completely rolled up. I think I shall be returning them for a refund and will stick with my M&S cotton-rich reinforced scaffolding and put up with it riding up on the mutilated side!
Room looks lovely, all that hard work was worth it!! Purple/lilac are my favourite colours and like your Santa too, how long does it take you to knit them??? Have you tried bras yet??? May get mine tomorrow?
Dink Day yep had a little giggle!! xx
Room looks great JCJ, love the bedside cabinets.
I was listening to our local radio this morning and heard that Wednesday is now referred to as " Hump day". This is apparentlybecause once over the "hump" of Weds., it's downhill to the weekend. It shows how much a Benchlander I am that my first thought on hearing this was............."when is it Dink day?" Oh dear....
Beautiful morning, forecast was for sunshine and 20 degrees, so I thought it would be a good idea to wash all the bedding. I was wrong, very wrong. 10 minutes after I hung it out it clouded over and started to rain. I now have a house full of damp sheets and duvet covers.
Back to the cross stitch bench. Mugatea and bar of chocolate also to hand for sustenance.
I do live right by most of the major distribution centres, Katy - that is one advantage of living here and not somewhere as pretty as you do - but there aren't many others!!
As promised: the finished room! Chuffed with it.
Love parcels JCJ, not got my bras yet, grrrrrrrr, ordered them before you, grrrrr xx
Weeeeee Hoooooo! Benchland is abounding with good news. (Except poor Millie, but she should be better soon?!)
I feel like it's (whispers) Christmas because I've had THREE parcels - 2 of them were hugenormous and took me half an hour to unwrap - ACRES of corrugated cardboard and bubble wrap securely fastened in MILES of red & white 'FRAGILE' tape. The new bedside cabinets!! I'll take a picture when I've had this restorative mugatea!
Other parcel was genie bras. I'll try them on later. Can't be ****ed to do the necessary faffing at the mo!
Forgot to say bought toothpaste that has been recommended thought it would be horrifically expensive actual cost 49p so I bought two hee hee xx
Hopefully it's not then grumpy, poor millie
!
You're not getting out of panto that easily Miss Dame grumpy!!
Big thumbs up for me , will have a mammo next year and appointment with surgeon so woo hoo dooby/good booby, glitterberry juice on me xx
Good news - if it is lyn, it's very mild, so keep up the gentle massage stuff including boobs! didn't know we could get lyn in the boobs, it's adding insult to injury!
Bad news (ish) - Millie is sneezing and snorting so much that she makes her nose bleed, and gets all puzzled bless her.
Panto? what panto? grumpy is leaving the country early in December.....
grumpy (and relieved)
Glad all went well Kay, it's a bit scary first mammo, fingers crossed for the very best of news.
CH good your tooth is settling down now.
Everyone is soooooooooo artistic, sculpting added to the list, well impressed.
Didn't mean to be cryptic about the BMS cause I'm sure I mentioned it a few months ago, it's not painful just annoying, have had it for about 6-7 months or so.
No parades here so feel quite envious!
Appt not till mid afternoon so going to sit on the "chill out" bench, near the "calm down" bench also quite near the "am going to eat a big bar of choc" bench hee hee!
grumpy we are expecting some sort of Panto from the Dame so you will be busy xx
I live in the west country and our carnival season will start in November - they are always spectacular and the floats do a circuit of 5 or 6 of our local towns, starting with Bridgwater and ending with Weston super mare, over the course of a couple of weeks. When I was teaching I used to dread being on the 'wrong side ' of the procession on the way home rnd had to make sure I left school in time not to get caught up in the carnival traffic. The floats are always amazing and the clubs spend all year creating them.
My tooth problem is better than it was, just hoping now that it will settle down completely - I can at least now eat and drink warm foods - not hot yet, but hopefully that will come.
This morning 2 of my chickens crowed! Now have to work out what I can do with 2 cockerels who should have been providing me with fresh eggs in a few weeks, and now obviously won't be. Oh dear.........!
Grandson has just arrived so I had better get breakfast and then take him to school - its his first week of full
time and he seems to coping OK.
Can't find a free pig pattern, but I did find this:
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/pig-knitting-pattern
Also here:-
http://www.etsy.com/shop/mamma4earth?ref=si_shop
It's quite life-like & cute.
Foxy, glad you enjoyed carnival night...I used to live in Burnham, Somerset which has a brilliant carnival every year. I think the West Country really go in for them!
Kayteeb, hope you get mammo results soon + the all clear. I've enrolled for an evening class in sculpture (hope it goes ahead - depends on enough people enrolling to make up a class).
Glad you feel better today Katy! What caused the BMS and what treatments?
You do feel like there should be little eyes, nose and beard on the Santa cosy, JCJ! Likewise had to google BMS!
It's horrible when something is wrong with your pet and you can't fix things for them, Grumpy...hope the vet's 'potions' work. I don't know if I'd have the necessary concentration level to be a prompter, I'd need someone next to me to prompt me!
BMS = burning mouth syndrome. I had to Google it (it's OK girls, I did it responsibly! :p) you'd be amazed how many companies have BMS as their initials. I had to type BMS + diagnosis before I found what Katy might have in her mouth!!!!!
Sorry, no pig pattern. I'll have a shufty and see if I can find one.
Made the fatal mistake tonight of taking on Prompt for the play at the end of October.
Then there will be residents meetings with the University to protect our neighbourhood.
And the museum Friends want me to carry on as Secretary ........ NO NO NO.
Spoons will be needed in droves...........
Grumpy
Ali, join the club, I was wondering too. Hope it isn't anything nasty!
