Hi Revcat. Went to Florida with Eurtunnel insurance. Visit to doctor confirmed we were fit to travel and that was all they needed. K x

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Whenever I log in to Benchland I land up on page 348 and have to leap into the transmat beam in the Lost Plottery Shed to get back to page 1!!

Have had the most superly duperly weekend churchy wise - and am now on the cream-crackered flushing -for -Europe bench.  Have decided that the snazzy M&S (other shops blah di blah) sheets do stay coooler than my other ones which is as well as I am my own central heating boiler these days!!

Have discovered a new weight loss plan - eat pizza and doughnuts - lost a pound this weekend and ate nothing healthy at all!  What is THAT all about?  Back to proper food today - after I ate the last doughnut for breakfast!!

Best to all still going through yucky treatment stuff or awaiting results - am need ign to research tickets and travel insurance for NZ (currently have EU only policy which excludes BC, but not going to far side of the planet without full cover)

Hello all! We've been on a flying visit to see son at his uni, he modelled his uni hoody, showed me his washing spread out on the airer, and consumed a huge amount of food. Am now of course missing him terribly, but it was a lovely visit! So now I'm on the oooh isn't he grown up so proud of him/ sniff sniff bench 😉

Elephant finished. See new avatar! 🙂

I have such a lot to do today, including taking my own advice and going for a walk in the lovely sunshine, but I seem to be welded to the CBA bench!  I've only just got dressed!

How awful FF, seeing the accidents leaves you with such a horrible feeling.

Funny that your daughter and you were on each others doorsteps, as someone has already said great minds........have a lovely day today. Excellent about the bras, have found a huge difference with comfiness, they maybe the ones grumpy was talking about.

Your first egg CH how exciting, first of manySmiley Happy!

Just away to start tidying up, not so foggy brained this morningSmiley Happy, afterwards have a good book and some things taped so lazy day may even go to chippie for tea, so onto the "lazy, hazy day" bench for me, still have tiffins left so can share with anyone who wants to eat digustingly sweet things..............am in carriage 2  xx

Congratulations Rev Cat and Bene's daughter.  How clever you both are.

OH and I have just got back from visiting my sister , while there we climbed her apples tree to harvest a bumper crop for her.   Had a lovely day and it was finished off wonderfully on our return when I went to  put my chickens to bed ... I opened the nest box to check all of them had gone in and noticed our first egg... didn't think we'd have any for a few weeks yet, so great excitement here tonight. Now preparing for a few days holiday and hoping the weather will be kind to us.

Hope everyone has a great rest of weekend.

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Great minds think alike, FF? I can just imagine you and daughter standing puzzled on each other's doorsteps. 🙂

Kay, Mark Futon-Ebay came into existence when I sold a sofa bed on that well known auction site. The buyer (NOT Mark, - or Martin! 🙂 but similar) gave me his phone number so we could arrange collection. I put the number in my phone under the name Mark - Futon-Ebay so I would remember who it was. That made me smile because we were having one of our daft Benchland dramas involving poshly named people and I thought he'd fit in well, so the name stuck. So don't worry, it's not you losing your grip, but me! 😛

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Woo hoo Kay, great news.

The chat about Belvia bras recently has made me realise that mine are uncomfortable and due to repeated washing and wearing are really only fit for the rag bag.  Went online this am to "shop around"  and ended up looking at crop tops with Secret support.  An awful lot of unsuitable and far too expensive ones later I found one on Asda website that looked good and was only £6.  I decided to drive to Asda for further research.  Tried them on and I have bought two and can honestly say that they are the most comfortable  that I have worn since WLE.  Called a Comfort bra if anyone wishes to investigate.

On the way there I passed nasty accident, navy blue car with badly smashed up front.  Paramedics were there and I drove past thinking that the police should be there as the traffic was a nightmare with everyone trying to get round and a tailback on the accident side for at least a mile.

Two miles further down the road was ANOTHER even nastier accident.  Two badly smashed up cars, one on its roof.  Two ambulances, three police cars and three fire engines were at this one.  As we all drove on into town I noted that everyone ,including me ,was driving a lot slower.  A salutary lesson to everyone passing.

Called into daughters on the way home but she was out.  I have since had a phone call from her and as I was at her house finding out she wasn't in, she was at my house finding out I wasn't in!!  We've decided I'll go to hers tomorrow afternoon.

Off now for a mugatea and some more cross stitching. I estimate that if I spend a couple of hours a night on it, it MIGHT be finished by this time next yearSmiley Tongue.

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Whoop! Whoop! Just won a swivelly office chair from Mark Futon-Ebay's establishment. I only started the bidding so the lady got a decent price for it instead of the usual greedy b******s all trying to bid in the last few seconds, which is what usually happens when I sell something. I got it for £11.50. If it's what she says it is, that's a bargain! (and if not, it's cash on collection, so I just won't pay.Win. Win! 🙂

Absolutely cream kna**ered this morning. 2 bad nights on the trot after a long exhausting week. (It is SO tiring being NICE all day??!!)  Don't think I'll be doing much today other than finishing knitting an elephant and possibly fetching the chair (from about 6 miles away). Ooh and there's gymnastics on tele too - found it by accident last night, on BBC3 - love watching people do things I'd never be able to do in a million years. (Though they make it looks so d**n easy that I'm always suprised by how hard it is to just get off the sofa! :p)

Hope you all have a worry & illness-free weekend. x

PS our posts crossed: FAB news Kay!  😄

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Glad Millie dog back to her usual self Grumpy!
Plumber was very accurate about power flush - both his and mine! At least mine doesn't make me temporarily deaf!
GI Jane , sound like you live up to your name, whew!
Revcat, sound like you have been really busy! Don't overdo it!
Katy, good .luck with the tabs. You are right about plumbers, they have also perfected this sucky teeth thing that usually precedes a large bill. Yesterday was a nightmare, radiators banging from power flush, wall being knocked down in kitchen, GS and I trying to watch The Great Mouse Detective (good film) . A thin film of dust everywhere and then had to go shopping to find food that could cook in microwave. Sensing diet won't be good for the next few weeks!
FF I will need to use the dining car a fair bit too. Hope the service was good and glad cough was an allergy and nothing too much to worry over.
JCJ , hope your power flushes weren't as noisy as mine!
Hi Jenanne, good news for you. Your poor daughter, how painful. Lots of TLC needed.
Bene, glad you better too. All of the poems were lovely weren't they. Such talented young people.
Well better go into remains of kitchen to get bread, dining room for butter then conservatory for toaster - who would have thought buttered toast would be so complex!
Have a good weekend all, hope the sun shines where you are

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

FF your washer/dryer sounds like mine - I got the man out to it, he sucked his teeth, shook his head, then opened it up re-set some little trip switch thingy and it's been fine every since (still waiting for the quote to repair it to arrive, cost £48 for call out... bargain)

Flushes a -go-go here too.  Snazzy new M&S sheets don't seem any cooler but they evidently 'wick' moisture away and they are very smooth and comfy.

Still waiting for gynae  results - good job I'm genuinely not anxious about them... have to phone next week if they haven't arrived...

End of first week back at work - well sort of, am working both days this w/e... just realised I've worked about 45 hours in four days, oops, was meant to be be doing less not more!  No wonder I'm tired... but happy; glad to be back 🙂

Will have a word with Mum JCJ, see what she thinks, thank you for being so helpful.

Am away to start new tabs side effects confusion, disturbance in attention, clumsiness, difficulty speaking, weight gain blah de blah, blah sooooooooooo no change there then Smiley Wink!  hee hee.

Just had a huge plate of spicey spaghetti, very tasty, tummy is soooooooooo full will have to have a wander outside!

Hope the fillet works, will feel odd to begin with am liking the genies and have noticed a HUGE difference with shoulder pain so must have been bra straps, am delighted woo hoo!!

Oh to hang with the walk and doing the dishes, "CBA" bench here I come xx

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Katy, OHs' opinion seems to be that the light box is not as effective as actually getting outside (doesn't need to be particularly sunny, although sunshine helps!) but it DOES help if you are unable to get out. It's a much brighter light than ordinary electric lighting.

Chicken fillets arrived - not very comfy - I don't think that'll be the solution, but I'll give it a while to see if I can get used to it.

Very glad it's Friday (there's polite for a change?!) CBA bench here I come for the next few hours!

How was the power flush, Kay? I had a few of those last night. 😛 Swimming does seem to completely destroy any hopes of a good night's sleep! 😞

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Good news and bad news here.  Good news is that I am fine and well.  Turns out the cause of all the sneezing and coughing was the new air freshener in the car.  Woke up fine yesterday but as soon as I got in the car it all started again. Penny dropped so I shoved it in the boot, well wrapped up, and recoved quickly.  As I bought two of different "flavours"  I'm now wondering if the other one will have the same effect.....................watch this space!

Bad news is that my washer/drier is not drying.   Makes all the right noises but the air does not get hot.  How dare appliances not work when I need them to. Grrrr!!   It is absolutely persisting down, we've even had thunder and lightning, so hanging  the washing out is NOT an option.  House looks like a chinese laundry.Smiley Sad

Grandaughter is taking her driving theory test this afternoon.  This is her third attempt (actually it might be the fourth, I've lost count).  She has failed before by only one or two points, so I hope she can manage to pass this time as she should pass the actual driving part easily.

Will update you later.

Getting on the Benchland Express now for a spot of lunch........."waiter, menu please."

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Hello All!

Time flies...it's been 5 days since I posted, but have been following all the ups and downs & goings-on in Benchland!
Katy, that missed train really was funny - a Mr. Bean moment! Glad you and Revcat had a nice meet-up.
Bene, congrats to your daughter for winning Foyles Young Poet of the Year.
Hope your cold is better Kay, and you are feeling OK, FF.

The last 2 days have been taken up with my daughter - she went into hospital with abdominal pain and had an op. yesterday for a ruptured ovarian cyst. She told us not to make her laugh when we visited her, because any abdominal movement hurts! She will be alone during the day tomorrow, so I will be going to her place to make sure she is OK, cook food, etc.

Christmas will be different this year - my daughter not living at home now, and my son booked a flight to the U.S. today. He's going to see his girlfriend, who lives near Boston, and won't be back until after New Year. Will probably go to my sister's for Xmas dinner.

Clinic appt. with new lady oncologist not available until 18th Oct at the earliest - but I really needed to know the results of a recent MRI scan on my spine. It's been 9 months since the last one. I pestered the hospital and the secretary rang today, having spoken to the onc., to say 'Good news, no change' which makes it even more certain that I do NOT have bone mets - 4 years after being (mis)diagnosed!

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Just realised today was Hump day, so tomorrow must be Dink day, then we have Fryday (chippies!! 🙂 ) then Dromeda(r)y - the twin delights of the weekend!! Hehehe   Edit: Oh b***er! That doesn't work. It's the bactrian that has two humps. Back(trian) to the drawing board???

Benchland Express has a special carriage for camels and companion animals (even snotty or pukey ones) with its own special dining car included.

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

New Zealand, Revcat!!!   How simply marvellous.  When and where?  We had a family holiday there in 2010 as a celebration for my having reached my 50th safely and it was utterly wonderful  (helped by the fact that the Icelandic volcano went up so 3 weeks turned into 6!!)  Will you have a chance to sneak off and see a bit of the place?   Happy news!

Thank you all for allowing me to boast gracefully.  Daughter and OH recently set off for London in the rain and darkness so I won't rest until I hear they have arrived safely.  Fingers also firmly crossed as I have felt grim in the extreme today so hoping very much I don't get carted off to hospital at midnight leaving two boys home alone.

Hope others who reported feeling grim are bearing up.......

Do you get to go to New Zealand too??? It's on my very long list of places to visit..... That bedding sounds clever, or at least if it can withstand the 4am meltdown it is- will look out for your reports!
I've hoovered, dusted, polished, tidied, spider-chased and generally waved my magic cleaning wand over son's bedroom. I was going to sort the wardrobe too but I opened the doors....caught a huge cuddly cow....and a teeny Mr Happy....and a teeny Mr Tickle....and several hats/gloves/thermal ski trip long johns/mismatched socks and thought hey, why not save some excitement for another day? Crammed it all back in and ran away quickly 🙂

Woohoo Benedictus, what a clever daughter, bragging rights are yours!

Well two days in back at work (after 3m sabbatical/study leave) and am happily busy.  Exciting news for me - my research apper 'Public Faith and Private Pain' has been accepted for a conference in...... New Zealand!  I am muchly excited (just have to finish writing it now!!)

Glad I'm not in active treamtent as the hopsital computers in Glasgow keeled over yesterday and are still not fixed... so much for paperless working (the breast team I see still sneakily use paper anyway).  Hope they get it properly fixed soon.

I have bought some fancy new bedding frmo m&S which is supposed to stay cool - we shall see when the 4 a.m. melt strikes!

Best wishes to all xx

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Katy, we have a SAD lamp that a colleague lent to us when OH was trapped in the house when he broke his leg (both my & her OH suffer with depression!)

It's getting in the way now he no longer needs it, but when I say I must return it she says "Do you have to?!" Her OH isn't missing it - it was only stored in her loft - so they may be willing to sell it to you for a fractrion of the cost of a new one. We'd have to courier it up to Sunny Scotland, not sure how much that would be. Would you like me to enquire?

Am I too late for afternoon tea on the Benchland Express, I've only just got home (some of us have been to work!!) 🙂

I've ordered myself some silcone 'chicken fillets' off my friend Mark F-E's favourite auction site to see if putting one in left bra cup will stop it riding up. Cost less than £4 for a pair (only need 1) so it's worth the risk!

Oh, BTW. Forgot to say Benedictus: CONGRATULATIONS to your poet daughter. What an achievement! Well done her! Of course you should be proud! 🙂

Thanks Ali, may have mentioned it before, it's for my Mum, just really not sure if it would be beneficial for her, last time I looked they were very expensive, wouldn't want it to be sitting in a cupboard somewhere......just don't know.

Well good news no morphine at the moment whew, will be trying something else woohoo!! Sooooooooo pleased keep your fingers crossed for me.............. blood tests every 6 months and referral back to pain clinic, have been before and there was nothing that could be done for left side after many treatments  but now right side is also affected (not as bad) something MAY just work so on the "optimistic" bench again.Smiley Happy!!

Katy I'm prepared to believe that it helps, which isn't quite the same thing I know but I DO know that positivity is vital! I also use things like mindfulness, meditation, yoga, and something my fab yoga teacher taught me called affirmations (you tell yourself things like "I am strong" and repeat it three times, combined with meditation or breathing exercises it's very helpful -if you let it help...) the best thing ever though was a month of blue skies and daylight in the south of France this last feb when hub was working there and I tagged along. Not likey to happen again but it was such a gift 🙂
Off to yoga now!

Whoof!!!!! Got home from uni liaison meeting, followed by rehearsals!!! Clever me took a 'packed lunch' to eat between meetings, so can now sit on Smug Bench.......

Domestic activity jobs tomorrow, then to Fife on Thursday to 'supervise'  2 small bairns to allow parents some adult time. (Memo to self - purchase alcofrol supplies and hide in campervan) Would you leave your kids with a squiffy elderly flushing  medicated STRICT nana-substitute for 2 days??? Answers on a postcard, not that I shall have time to read them..

I can feel an Agatha Christie-type script on the Benchland Express coming on. We could employ Rick Stein and Hugh Fearnley-Eatsitall as chefs for the swanky dining car. Tiaras will be worn, with knee highs and GLITTER. Must nip into OXFAM (other courtiers ...) for a posh frock.

Yes, it has to be peeshdicoof, peeshdicoof...... Although can I also throw in a "peep peep said Thomas!" because my son loved (and secretly still loves) Thomas the Tank Engine. And well done to Bene's daughter, you're right to be proud- what an achievement!
I have ordered myself some mini hair straighteners, did a bit of searching and you could buy a funky bright pink pair for a fiver more than the same thing in green. I like green. So hopefully my slightly frizzy, chemo curl on top but sticky outy at the side hair 'style' will be tamed, glossy and gorgeous! This time last year I was just starting rads, so it's a sort of pressie to myself 🙂
Just thinking too that I need to look my light box out soon, try and delay S A D if I can because I've been feeling so well I really don't want the dark days yet.
Hot chocolate and bedtime stories for anyone who needs them, I rather foolishly had a coffee with supper and I'm a little bit hyper!

At last.... I've found a spare few minutes to come to Benchland and catch up.

The  craft fayre on Sunday was extremely good although somewhat tiring.  I wish I had had a pedometer, we must have walked miles.  Digging out the set aside cross stitch so that I wouldn't buy another one didn't workSmiley Embarassed, however I only spent £24 in total which is much,  much less than previous years.

I will possibly be joining Kay on the "I don't feel well bench " tomorrow.  I have lost count of the number of times I have sneezed today and when I'm not sneezing I'm coughing.  I feel fine at the moment but it doesn't bode well, early night tonight with a hot toddy methinks.

Of course there's a dining car!! This is Benchland! It's one big dining car, stopping off regularly at the Lost plottery shed to restock from the tardis-magic-porridge-pot-type-fridge (as long as it doesn't have porridge in it - bleurgh!!)

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

'Normal' day at school as the none of the teachers wanted to strike this time. I say 'normal' but as I've had THAT class all day - the one in every  school that is just so much more difficult than the rest,  (in this case, even more so due to bonkers triplet boys!) - it's been a far cry (or scream??) from most people's definition of 'normal'!! Shattered now!

The drive to work was wonderful though, because most of the local schools were shut, so there was hardly any traffic. Wish it was like that every day!

Katy, I'll install a roundabout for you - with lots of comfy armchairs - so you can go round and round in comfort. It'll go really slowly so you can get off at any time to visit the FB bench - (otherwise known as the scone inhaling Bench? Smiley Tongue) or any other suitable bench you fancy. Oooh maybe not a roundabout;  perhaps a train/tram trype thing, winding its was round and round Benchland past all the other benches? All aboard the Benchland Express..... except what's the opposite of 'express'? Inpress? Impress? Snail?

Sorry - normality suspended due to Year 3 overdose!!  🙂

Re: stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND)

Congratulations Bene you must be sooooo proud of her!

I am looking sor the 'I don't feel very well bench' but I can't find it! Swollen glands, sore throat, earache and a reaching temperature. If someone sees me wandering please point me in the right direction.

I was a child bride too, married in 1970

Can I please be a future member of the Flushing challenge?  Tapoxyfen for me at the end of all this.  Beginning to surface from chemo no. 3.  Apart from ghastly day 5 it's been OK.  Just waiting for a plum and ginger cake to pop out of the oven - yummy smells - made with plums from our tree.

With you on the students, Grumpy.  Right in the middle of student land here.  Must admit the thousands we spent on having the windows at the front of the house refurbished in the summer seem to have paid dividends because noise levels at 2 am -and  3am - and 4 am are hugely reduced which is a relief.

I hesitate to boast but really cannot contain myself.  Sure it's one of the seven deadly sins but hey, I'll take that chance. Daughter just been announced as Foyles Young Poet of the Year 2013 winner after being a finalist in 2011 and 2012.  In the Independent and the 'i' incase anyone partakes.  OK, boast over, but I am sitting on the 'vpm' bench  Smiley Very Happy

Surfacing briefly from the hotel we've been running. OH produced a series of stunning meals, copious quantities of alcohol, and all was very relaxed, but totally exhausted now. Happy though. I am very rich in friends and love.
Finishing celebrations Wednesday with a trip to a London jazz club to hear Jacqui dankworth launching her latest cd. From what I've heard on t'internet, she has an amazing voice. I recommend two week celebrations!

Lyn began her life with me in just my thumb..... Arm's still really puffy after the fall three weeks ago, and apparently I have rotator cuff injury. Been referred for physio. 8 week wait, so it'll probably be ok by then! Can't remember if I already said all that.... Must be my age!!

Night all

Can I come to the Flushing Challenge????? Train to North of the Border quite easy from the Lakes......

(whispers - I don't really do flushing now, more a sort of warm glow and a light drench!!)

Snot report - Millie now has clear snail trails NOT green ones, thank goodness, but still bubbles when she breathes. It is most disconcerting to be woken up by these geyser noises at 3 am. Still, it's better than the students yelling and swearing and vomiting in the street.... I had to march in to their hostel and explain (very sweetly i.e. without the Big Lads from the residents committee) that it's not on, we want them to feel welcome, quiet family/retired neighbourhood, you've had one strike next strike you're out, police have logged the event etc etc, all in my best school teacher more-in-sorrow-than-anger voice. Hmmmm - community liaison meeting for village and uni tomorrow will be fun.

Not had any tea yet, so I think it will be jam donuts and a tincture......

Lyn just 'prickles' without swelling so  reckon the massage is working, hurray.

Fabulous, a Flushing Challenge will be arranged at some point then. I'm not sure when he's working yet, but I'll give as much notice as possible in the hopes of a mini meet up.
JCJ very wise, they can be worse than toddlers for filling the trolley up with biscuits, weird flavour drinks and "oooh look it's a bargain, half a tonne of lambs liver with today's date for only 99p" type of purchases.
I've spoken to my son on Skype (probably other versions available??) and he sounds fine, he's got to go shopping tomorrow because out of the humongous pile of food I sent him up with last weekend he has a tin of kidney beans and the emergency tin of soup left. However my cupboards are full, I haven't quite got the hang of shopping for one (very hungry teenager) less 😉

Ali, Fish and chips, in the cafe was yummy, but I declined the 'help' with the shopping, because that usually entails OH disappearing goodness knows where with the trolley while I'm stood with arm loads of stuff. Or I spend more time explaining what we need, - and putting back the wrong items! - than I'd take if I did it myself, so I sent him home out of the way!! That way he was there to help me unload the car. 🙂 31 years of marriage (I was an even younger child bride! Smiley Embarassed) has taught me nothing if not how to best accomplish shopping and avoid him p***ing me off in public. Smiley LOL
