Delicious as usual haha, all munched, thank you!
Still no ironing here............
Bathroom is so modern now, looks good, taps and shower brilliant.
Journey was smooth but crowds of people, looks busier than it was before covid..........
It is starting to feel cold here, first thing I did when I came home was to put on a cosy jumper brrrrrrr.
Have a slight lull before Oct hits, so lunching out for moi over next few days, might as well spoil myself hee hee.
Ran into town because no tasty food things, was going to go to chippie last night but stayed firmly on CBA bench.
Went to bed early and woke at 1.30 am arrrrrrrrgh, meant I couldn't get back to sleep for hours, oh so hate these nights.
Black eye now turning green and yellow, attractive or what?? xx
I did ironing today too!
I hope your journey went according to plan, Katy and that you didn't get too wet on arrival. Enjoy spending time with YD & GS... and the superb bathroom 😜
Hope you're having a lovely time in Southwold, Jane (note to self: must look up where that is!) and the breathing is not too problematic - you'll just have to sit enjoying the view?!
Roast Welsh Hill lamb with all the accompaniments in the shed along with chocolate fondants (they worked! Deliciously gooey in the middle. Hurrah!) raspberry sorbet and ice cream. Yum... Even if I do say so myself.... Yum! 😁
Enjoy time with daughter Jane, both of you take it easy and just relax.
Am not ironing hahaha.
Woo beach time JCJ, glad you enjoyed your day, great just to be on your own and spoil yourself.
And good news about volunteering, have fun!
Am off in a short while, just had breakfast and "done" a tidy up so only shower and a couple of things to pack, am hoping journey is uneventful this time, there and back???
It's supposedly pouring with rain later just as I will arrive, yuck.
Have given myself a black eye, arrrgh, walked into bathroom door, what's wrong with me?? haha.
It's pretty nasty ah well xx
Glad the bathroom is finally finished and she's happy with it. You can inspect it yourself when you visit! 😝
Enjoy your break, Jane, and I hope your daughter can use the time to rest and recuperate. You take it easy too and try and stay away from that worry bench!
I enjoyed my day by the sea (well, not so much BY the sea....the tide goes a loooong way Out!!)
I had fish and chips with a sea view. At last! Hurrah! A delicious clotted cream and blackcurrant ice cream and lashings of tea. It was brilliant to just please myself all day. I ended up walking MILES along the beach and prom - after a very brief paddle and half an hour trying to clean the mud off my feet! 😏I was on the K bench for most of yesterday. I'm definitely going to go by myself to the seaside again but maybe somewhere where the beach is nicer. Prestatyn? Rhyl? Llandudno?
I was beginning to think that school didn't really want me to go back and volunteer and I was starting to feel a bit unwanted: contemplating "going down the garden to eat worms" (old girl guide song!) I was just looking into other volunteering options when school messaged me and asked me to go I and show them how to set up the library for this year. I've offered to do it for them and they've hastily accepted. I'm going in Monday afternoon and will, hopefully, make a regular thing of it, maybe once or twice a week: I need to be useful....and away from the house....and OH!!
hoovering!!! I'll see your hoovering and raise you to ironing!!!! Trying to get spare bed clear before we go away!
We're off to Southwold on Friday....
The breathlessness is getting worse fairly rapidly now, and scan showed lung filling up again. Everything else stable. I did wonder how come, and must have said so out loud at some point. Texted specialist nurse about the possibility of another fluid drain, and she texted yesterday to say she'd spoken to consultant. It turns out that they are asking the same question, and asking for an urgent CT scan to re-assess whether the treatment is working. She had 9am Monday morning for me, but I'll be away... so now it's a week on Wednesday - pretty good really. Back to the Anxious Bench, which I've moved next to the Trust Bench...
Daughter coming with us for 4 days. She was in the thick of covid response as a Respiratory Physio team lead - now burnt out and off..... so tired she doesn't know what to do with herself, and doesn't want to talk/do anything, bless her. Time just sitting on her own listening to the waves will hopefully help...
I dragged OH to an outlet centre this morning to look for shoes for him. No shoes for him, but I got a jacket and perfume!!!! He hates the place cause the parking used to be so expensive. Now, with my blue badge, it's apparently free, so we might go back again! We had lunch there, which was surprisingly nice. Granary baguette with smoked salmon & cream cheese for me, and freshly squeezed orange juice. Delish...
Hope you are both OK xx
Hope you now have meds and injections have gone well, Jane. Sooooooo annoying!
You are back hurrah! Plus visit to seaside, how lovely, when are you off?
Oh my goodness, have never been so well fed haha.
YD returned home on Fri, bathroom is fab and she is so very pleased, so it was worth the wait. Babysitting Sat, all went well but was super tired. Am off to YD's at the end of the week, it's all go here.
Had a very lazy morning, well deserved methinks haha, just faffed around, busy tidying by lunchtime, even a spot of hoovering, woo hoo. xx
Hope you've been able to vacate the FF Bench, Jane. So annoying when you can't just collect meds!
We're back from holiday, washing done, everything put away.
I'm on the excited bench, trying hard not to feel guilty (the alligators have had quite a feast!) I really miss the seaside: haven't seen the sea for over 2 years..... and that was the super stressful holiday (which I'd thought would be our last!) before OH's meds were improved. We didn't get to go when we were in Norwich and MMU hasn't been able to happen, so I've come up with a cunning plan: I'm going to Weston-super-Mare (only because it's the nearest seaside accessible by rail from here), by train, by myself, on Tuesday. Hurrah! I WILL have fish'n'chips on the seafront this summer! I didn't ask OH.... I told him (to be fair, he did suggest I drove to the coast, one day, from our holiday place but at 2 1/2 hours of winding roads - each way - I thought it was a tad impractical). He asked if I wanted company and I said "No". I want a stress free day where I can walk from the station to wherever. I think he was relieved. Train tickets are bought. I've checked the weather.... and the tide times! Fingers crossed it will be just the tonic I need. Cue torrential rain and/or gales? 😛
I thought about going to Norecambe for the day, but decided I want to save that for the next MMU. 😁
Coffee and walnut cake in the shed. I bought it from a butchers shop in Bishop’s Castle (originally put BC.... but that means something else on here! 😊) It's "homemade" and lovely but, with 2 layers of butter cream, it's a tiny bit sweet for our tastes.
Roast beef dinner will be in there tomorrow too, probably with apple crumble as we've had some windfall bramleys already.
Oooh strawberries! Thank you!
Ouch ouchy walk! Pleased you got a good pub lunch though
Injections today. It always takes hours to collect medication so I offered to collect it. Got here 8.50, waited for pharmacy to open at 9....then was eventually told they don't open till 9.30 on Thursdays!!!! Grrrr!!! Was hoping to have coffee with a friend at 10.30..
Not sure which bench to sit on..
Good news about bloods, Jane, but a bit of a b***** about lungs. Take it steady. And you, Katy, don't overdo the gallivanting about with YD & GS!!
OH didn't want to go anywhere, yesterday, so after a CBA morning sitting in the shade outside our apartment, I went for a walk. Quite an adventure walking MILES (or so it seemed) through 8ft maize fields - the path, when I eventually found it, was only just wide enough to walk down...barely wider than the gaps between the rows. Felt like I was in a jungle! Managed, more by luck than judgement, to find the return path but the last part of it was badly overgrown with nettles and brambles. I had shorts on! Frantic bashing with the map cleared a sort of path but I still got multiple stings on both legs....and my hands. 🤕 They were itchy and sore last night but fine again now; just a few scratches. Next walk I'm taking a stick!!
This afternoon, we went to a carpark in the hills and had a wander about/sit in camping chairs, huddled by a gorse bush, in the only shade, admiring the views. Got talking to a lone walker who heard the mugs in our flask bag clanking, thought they were bottles and accused us of sitting drinking wine all afternoon!! The cheek!
On the way back, we stopped at a pub, at the bottom of the town, for breaded scampi/whitebait (respectively) and chips in a pub/brewery garden. Very reasonably priced and filling. Never had whitebait before. Would definitely have it again. OH v. quiet now. Not sure if I've upset him.....again....or if he's just exhausted.
The silver birch trees shading our little patio were shedding seeds in the wind this morning. They get EVERYWHERE! After sitting out for half an hour, I had to go in and empty a load of them out of my bra! ☺ like confetti, we'll be finding the stuff for years!! Hastily moved chairs further from those trees.
It's been really hot here again today but it's clouding over now and rain/thunder is forecast for tomorrow. Still, we can't complain, it's been much nicer than we expected after last week's dull, cool weather!
yes, will receive another order free, would have preferred them getting it right in the first place though, haha.
am on the "completely exhausted" bench, YD wants me everywhere with her and GS and it is taking it's toll, body and feet are aching.................I won't give in though so it is my own fault.
oh my goodness it was sooooooooooooo hot here today, strawberries and lashings and lashings of cream in the shed, yum.
They are here till Fri, YD is feeling guilty but keep telling her it's fine.
great news about bloods jane, hope breathlessness calms down soon, there is always something............there are kind people around lovely when they come to the rescue.
hope you are getting out and about JCJ, and also eating out haha. xx
think our responses ovelapped!
Hope you get more than one meal out - it is part of the holiday! When the kids were young and we were on self-catering holidays I didn't mind cooking, but DID ask that others choose what to eat, cause that's what I got most tired of.
Sunday lunch was great. No call with blood test results yesterday, but Specialist Nurse is on it today. Treatment tomorrow, and it's the nurse that phones that authorises it, so it needed sorting. Apparently the bloods are fine and as I saw onc last week, all is well...
Went shopping yesterday. Parked at a supermarket and walked over to the department store owned by same company. The most direct route was via the underpasses, but that was a mistake. The stairs and slopes were such a challenge I got to the makeup bit and had to just stand and get breath back. Extremely lovely young man directed me to a stool to sit down, and wanted to get water/know if he could help. Bless him. I think my lungs are filling up again 🙄
we have loads of plums. Old Dowerhouse Chutney in the shed - made yesterday (after the shopping trip!!) Last year's was yummy, so I hope this is. Keep it till Christmas... Lots of plums and cherry tomatoes there too.
I agree, hope you get a discount off next takeaway!
The weather is glorious, only some little insect has decided I'm super-tasty! I never used to be bothered - maybe something in the cocktail I take is tasty?
Super Granny! How exhausting and how lovely... probably more exhausting....
Irritating about the meal! Our was good. We're off to Suffolk the week after next, and I tried booking a nice meal for my birthday. It was so hard, I've booked tables for the first 3days! Sounds like it'll be heaving. We will be in a friend's house though, so can cook. OH doesn't want us to have to, which is rather nice.
Bloods and covid test yesterday. Treatment Thursday
The bathroom saga sounds grim
Grrrrr about your takeaway. I hope you let them know so you get a discount next time!
Did you have a yummy Sunday lunch, Jane? We didn't have our Sunday roast but I did buy a small rump steak which I fried (medium rare) and we had it with new potatoes and veggies. Lovely. Remaining spuds made into a salad for lunch today.
I don't mind cooking - simple things - on holiday; sometimes it's less stressful than trying to find suitable places to eat out with OH, even in a ridiculously small kitchen!! However, I do expect to eat out a few times: otherwise it's not a holiday for me!
I did get my fish and chips tonight. Hurrah! We went to the next town. OH sat in our camping chairs, in a country park, while I went for a walk, coming back via the town with cups of tea (ouchy fingers - it was further than I thought, carrying HOT cardboard cups!) and Welsh cakes. Then we drove into the town and had chippies on a bench outside the shop. Not as nice as "our" chippie, but welcome nevertheless! It's been really hot and sunny today. Usual schools back return to summer. At least we can take advantage now! 😁
It's 7pm and still warm enough to sit in the garden, in a t shirt, (and trousers! 😳) with a mugatea, but we're nearly out of milk so I've got to get down to the shop in a minute (CoOp: open until 10pm) - and back UP again: I sure as **** won't want to be ***ed before breakfast tomorrow! 🙄
Hope things are getting better JCJ, arrrrrrrrrgh, no cooking on holiday EVER, that's the point, grrrrrrrrr.
Also hope you enjoyed your pub at the bottom of the garden Jane.
Well, Fri must have been the night for meals not going to plan, YD and I ordered a takeaway from our usual place, 1 hour 20 mins later it arrived, starving by this time..........opened bag to find half the meal missing.........would have taken an age for new meal to be redelivered so just ate what was there was fuming, it was mine that was missing haha.
YD's bathroom which is small is still not finished thought it would be Fri, then Tues now whenever???
So think they will be here till end of this week, have lunch out on Fri and am babysitting ED's children on Sat am not seeing any quiet time for me boo hoo!!!
Am through at YD's the next week, scared to look at calendar xx
Oh, how frustrating on the f&c front! By the time you'd shopped and cooked, it can't have been much quicker? Hope you get a meal out tonight, or lunchtime. We're both so cream cr****** that we've booked Sunday lunch at the pub at the end of the drive!
As for the toddler....Grrrrr. do you have any earplugs?
Great that the outfit and accessories are sorted!!!!
Have a good weekend x
Arrived safely yesterday after a bit of faff finding the place. I remembered the message from the owner said the postcode would make the satnav take me 80yds too far up the road, so I parked the car, once I was in the actual street, to read the detailed instructions. Drove on looking for "2nd" private entrance. Nothing with the right name. Parked again and walked. Eventually found it directly opposite where I'd parked the first time. Doh!
Owner friendly and helpful and the apartment is fine, if a little jaded with a ridiculously small kitchen. 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms though and no stairs which is good. Nice view from the covered terrace outside.
There's a toddler in the apartment above and he spent half the night stampeding about, as only toddlers can, on the wooden floor. I was already having trouble sleeping: usual hurricane stomach and 1st night in a strange bed... and probably overtired due to 2 previous "windy" nights and driving here. So today I am exhausted.
Which is why I'm on the FF bench at the moment. Sat about, knitting and reading outside all morning and went to explore the local, small town after lunch. We went into a pub garden, recommended by our landlord, for a cup of tea enjoying the superb view. OH asked what I wanted to do for dinner and we decided to just stay at that pub. Bit pricy, but *** it! We're on holiday. Looked at menu online and decided to have fish and chips (chippy in the town is closed indefinitely so that plan was abandoned last night and I cooked instead 🙁) I also noticed that they didn't start serving until 6pm. It was 5pm at this point and after about 15 minutes, OH announced he was too hungry to wait, especially as it was likely to get busy; being a Saturday. Grrrrr. Sooooo disappointed. So I had to leg it to the shop, whilst he shuffled back to the apartment, choose something quick to cook (not easy when you're tired, hungry and have your heart set on fish and chips..... and they've sold out of frozen chips! 😢), stagger back up the short but STEEP hill and, of course, cook. By which point, I'm absolutely fuming! Happy holiday?!!
Much as I have sympathy for his/her parents, that toddler had better sleep tonight!!
Tomorrow, I shall plan to cook and then I can only be pleasantly surprised if I end up not having to!! 😁
Stable, woo hoo, great news Jane.
And the funds raised just brilliant, would also have been great to see everyone again, glad you had a very good day, double woo hoos!!
Enjoy your holiday JCJ, hope you have arrived safely and are settling in comfortably😀
That's outfit etc completely organised, should look a picture indeed, earrings and necklace just beautiful.
Will be sooooooooooo pretty.
Managed the two successfully, thank goodness, much better than anticipated, whew!
Am away to sit on "the munch everything in sight" bench, all sounds so tasty xx
Fantastic work raising that whopping amount for BCN, Jane. We'll done you and your OH! It sounds like you enjoyed it too. Double win!
Hurrah! Tiaras, bunting, fireworks. Stable! Yeh!
Thanks for all the yummy goodies; I am intrigued to know what "picnic slice" is.
Sherry cake added to the feast because I made some to take on holiday.
Swam another mile, today, after a few errands in town. Then home to start packing and realised the ****** plums needed picking yet a******gain. Neighbour had a big bagful and the rest are on our front lawn hoping to be taken by passers-by. Shoved some stuff into cases and bags but I'm on the k******** bench now so the rest can wait until the morning. No point in leaving before lunch as it's only a 2 hour (ish) journey and we can't be there before 5pm.
Hope your 2 year olds didn't exhaust you too much, Katy! xxx
LOVE the hat and the jewellery, just not so sure about any of the dresses tbh... Not warm enough!!!!
Tea was fantastic. About 40 in the end. I had three friends being waitresses, taking orders, topping up etc etc, which left me free to chat. Some people came that I haven't seen since I retired 3 years ago, so that was brilliant. I prioritised all those I haven't seen for ages, and waved to the ones I see regularly in passing (hope they weren't offended!) Some arrived wearing coats, and they were the wise ones! OH worked his socks off, to the extent that one gave up the ghost, fell apart and needed to be retired in the bin! We have raised about £1200 plus Gift aid on some, so we are very pleased indeed. Hopefully BCN will be too....
The scan showed the cancer is being contained - I am stable! YAY!!!!
car buying is tricky... that story sounds horrendous!
put the heating on last night.... bleeding radiators is impressive! I thought you were going to say bleeding hand...
Anyhoo, there are cheese scones, real scones + clotted cream and homemade jam, picnic slice, blackcurrant brownies, carrot cake, coconut balls etc in the shed - we need help eating the left overs!!!!
Typing left handed whilst bleeding bathroom radiator. Apologies for any tpyos.
That hat could work. (Seriously) love the colour!
How about these matching earrings and necklace?
I do love this though JCJ, what do you think? I totally value your opinion in the fashion stakes. Was thinking some jewellery?
Might dissuade OH..................xx
Just showed OH the pictures to explain what I'm laughing at....and the delay getting his lunch. He doesn't get the joke; thinks I've gone mad. 🤪🤣
Perhaps something understated like this?:
nothing too extravagant....you're not going to Royal Ascot. 🤣
Oh my gosh am totally overwhelmed, fabulous, fabulous. Your taste is impeccable. I will now be stunning, thank you!
Do you think a hat would be just too much?? x
A bit risqué? How about something a little more demure. Maybe this:
Hahahaha. Just the right impression? 😂😂😂
Yes, we're away for a week. I hope the weather improves. It's soooo grey here and getting cold and dark in the evenings already.
It was a Bank Holiday here at the weekend, KTC, that was why it was so busy - especially as people are still staying closer to home.
Zoomed with the girls yesterday. A friend has given them another load of 2nd hand clothes for GD. GD has pounced on the girliest, PINKest, floweriest items and is insisting on wearing them, much to her mums' dismay. Hahaha!
They are coming to visit the first weekend in October - Hurrah! - if their decrepit old car will make the journey..... or they've finally got around to buying another "new" one! They're still wary after the disaster of the last one they bought that went back, whilst still under warranty, with a "minor" problem that they noticed driving home from visiting us. The garage refunded them and sent the car back to auction!.... With their stuff still in it!.... During lockdown! They eventually got everything back but, understandably, they're nervous about buying another.
Sooooooooooo glad I was loitering around the shed delicious, thank you.
Jane 46???? Oh my, hope all has gone well.
I know, that was the only good thing JCJ, peace and quiet when you were out and about............
Did you say you were away for a week? Too lazy to scroll back haha.
GS caused disruption last night was full of the joys and wanted to play at 2 am this morning arrrrrrgh! Still not over that so went to chippie tonight so there is an array of delights in the shed near all of Jane's cakes.
Am a little nervous about tomorrow will have the 2 2 year olds for a few hours, unfortunately one of YD's friends has died very suddenly and funeral is tomorrow. So incredibly sad, another loss to cancer.
Stomach thing has gone hurrah 10 days arrrgh xx
Ooh, I was just saying I fancied a roast! Thank you. It was delicious!
Scones, bara brith, carrot cake, Victoria sponges, chocolate and blackcurrant brownies, picnic slice, sticky lemon cake, coconut balls, orange cake (GF) and nut brownie all the the shed for you along with the clotted cream and jam for the scones! OH has been very busy! Bunting round the shed, little flower arrangements...enjoy...
46 coming this afternoon now. Gulp.
Glad you found some peace and quiet...
Lido sounds draining. Hope you are OK, and feet too..
Can hardly bear to read the news...
Time to get out of bed and walk the dogs. Have a good Bank Holiday xx
Roast butterfly leg of lamb, roasties, Yorkshire pudding, carrots, roasted parsnips, cauliflower, broccoli, courgettes in garlic butter, gravy and mint sauce followed by Victoria plums (off our tree), mixed berries (from freezer), raspberry sorbet (ditto), ice cream (ditto) and shortbread (from a tin neighbour bought me for my birthday.... Or possibly Christmas!) Help yourself in the shed.
Glad you had a great, memorable time with your daughter, Jane.... and don't overdo it with yours, Katy: rest those feet!!
I hope the afternoon teas go well and raise loads of dosh for a very worthy cause. Looking forward to sampling the leftovers!!
We've put a box of plums out at the bottom of our drive with a "Help Yourself" sign and some bags. There have been a few takers but there's still some left - we bring them in overnight so the undesirables returning, worse for wear, from the pub, aren't tempted to throw them around! There are still quite a lot on the tree: (we saw a shower of them raining down, just now, when a squirrel jumped from the fence into the tree!) I'm already sick of the sight of them!!
Went to a country park this afternoon. Soooo many cars! Lots of large multi-car groups camping out for the day with gazebos and big games of rounders, cricket etc. FAR too many people for my liking but a very short walk took me somewhere much quieter; almost deserted, in fact, thank goodness. OH sat on a bench about 50 yards from the car and then went back and had a nap in the car before I came back and set up the camping chairs and cracked open the flask to make tea. Loving my oven timer as everything but the vegetables and gravy (ready prepped before we went out) were cooked when we got home. Just 15 minutes and the above feast was on the table!! 😁
Am sitting in chaos...........
Toys all over the place haha.
We went to park yesterday, lovely day, today just a short walk because my feet are super sore ouch. Prob have just done too much over the last couple of days.
Did go to bed early on Fri and had one of those wide awake nights arrrrrrrrrgh always happens when you are tired but went to sleep really early last night so have almost caught up.
Am really hoping there is something yummy in the shed tonight as I so CBA!
Will be loitering............xx
Goodness things are so different now indeed imagine if YD never has to go in to work, crazy stuff haha!
Ooh hot scones with newly made jam too? Sounds good to me.
Oh Jane that sounds lovely, a great day out. Chemist doesn't.....
Lido went well, just usual side effects, today I went into town and difference was amazing hurrah.
As I was in hospital YD phoned to say GS s dad tested positive for covid arrrgh so his Mum and YD went for test yesterday they are both negative hurrah.
They both came down here tonight, ED drove them here long story but all worked out well.
Had to buy a new phone today, old one was playing up so annoying. Guy in shop says he has no idea how it has lasted this long haha. So now have a new fangled device that I am trying to get used to. I like it though.
Also had hair chopped, did a little shopping and managed home by 11.30 pretty good going.
Tummy still not right but getting better, just hoping it's over with soon.
Away to bed now, feeling sleepy xx
hope you feel better now, and are off the yucky bench...
I had an amazing time in Londinium with daughter. I had been given some money either for expenses or treats, so I treated us to afternoon tea at The Dorchester, which was a wonderful, memorable experience. We then went on to see Singing in the Rain, which was fabulous too. Great dancing/humour and energy. Was on the k******d bench yesterday, but OK again today...
Just as well. I'm on the "Furious" bench. Nurse rang me back today and gave me another 2 week supply (that'll be weeks 7&8) of antiviral tablet. I ran out yesterday. After 10 mins in chemist, they said "you're not due your repeat yet". No, surgery emailed you prescription 8am this morning. Oh... wait a minute.... (10 mins later) We don't have the strength prescribed. We will have to order it. OK, so when will it be in. Tuesday! No, not acceptable. It's a course of treatment and I don't want to miss half a week, can I have the prescription please? At this point, the ever helpful member of staff went and asked the pharmacist, who said they DID have it, they'd just looked in the wrong place!!!! 25 minutes... Grrrrr!
Dentist also phoned... keep on with doing nothing to the inflamed nerve, and hope. The option of root canal filling would be fine if it worked, but if it didn't, I'd lose the tooth, and I need to avoid that at all costs on this treatment apparently! So we keep on keeping on.... fine by me...
Afternoon tea (or tea and cake) for BCN at the weekend. 13 from church on Sunday. 40 from all over on Monday..... OH is busy making cakes and sorting things. He really is amazing. Gazebos up tomorrow...
Have a good weekend.... I think I might be a tad pooped by Tuesday
Glad your ED OK after 2nd jab. Hurrah for Aunty Histamine?! 😁
I hope your lido went OK..... and they didn't have to postpone due to stomach lurg!
My YD starts her job in November - she has to work 3 months notice at her current place - but doesn't yet know if she'll start at home or in the office; she's not exactly sure where the office even is because she had 3 zoom interviews and a 6 hour technical task; all completed from home!! She said new staff where she works now just get delivered a laptop and an induction video/tasks and muddle along from home. (It's a whole different world from working in school!!) She is still a senior software developer and the new job is for a new financial app (name sounds a bit dodgy.... "S****": Charlie Brown's little beagle friend?)
It's Victoria plum picking time again. Already! I've just made 18 (some small) jars of jam. I exactly filled every available jar with no jam left over. Lucky! Plenty in the shed along with freshly picked fruit.
We go away to Bishop’s Castle next Friday, for a week. Can't wait. Hope the weather is as nice as last year. We're only 50 yards from a pub that serves meals though so I'm sure we'll find something to do if it's raining. 😛 Let's hope it's less fraught than the holiday we had in June... constantly worrying about ES.
I hope you're OK, GIJ? xx
Am still on the "yucky" bench, feeling horrid am assuming it's a viral thing wish it would disappear, not only do I feel yuck I look it too haha.
Glad yours was 24 hours JCJ, on a train?? How awful..........
So have been pretty quiet, did go to shops yesterday had to do a catch up shop.
YD's bathroom is small but complete re tile, new bath and flooring so water will be off for a couple of days, YD could never survive without a shower haha. Bathroom as it is, is very old fashioned so will be brilliant to see it modernised, ugliest room in the house.
Have lido tomorrow, will be super glad, seems so long this time.........
Dull and grey here but meant to be very hot later.
ED is now back to normal, she only was very tired this time, no swelling at all. Swallowed lots of antihistamines so that def worked. Thank goodness.
Will your daughter be doing same sort of job? When is she starting? Does she have to go in at first?
Next holiday soon? xx
Hope YD is coping OK with her "big change" and it's not too much of an upheaval. A WEEK to tile a bathroom?! How big is it?!
I hope your dodgy tummy is improved. I had the same problem on Tuesday, travelling home from Norwich. Put it this way: I had to break my rule of avoiding using train loos! On both trains! It only lasted the one day, thank goodness. No idea what caused it as nobody else seems to have been affected.
YD's new job is located in the city centre so she will be able to walk to work (about 40 minutes). Her current job was originally in the city centre - the main reason they bought their house; within walking distance for both of their jobs - but then the company moved to the OPPOSITE side of the city, forcing her to drive to work and necessitating a second car. She was going to quit then but they persuaded her to stay; with a pay rise. Even before the pandemic, she was working from home 2 or 3 days a week and she can do the same in her new job, but on the days when she does go into the office, the commute will be much less stressful....and, hopefully, the job will be less "pointless"!! 🤞🏼
I hope you enjoyed the party, Jane, and aren't suffering too much from the tooth pain... or the delayed treatment.
It's raining and I'm on CBA bench in my dressing gown but I suppose I'd better drag the bod into the shower and get dressed because it's nearly time to organise some lunch.
Hurrah for "magic nanna" job well done haha.
Congratulations to YD and new job, still in same area? Suppose it doesn't matter at the moment?
Glad you had a lovely time, woo hoo.
Have been on the really odd feeling yuck bench, tummy not happy at all............
ED received 2nd jab yesterday in hospital she is not swollen this time but did react quickly so consultant saw what was what, he was not too concerned whew! She is feeling exhausted though and is not at work until Mon, whew am glad it's over for the time being.
So I have GD today, (gives ED time to rest) we have been out searching for clocks, found one in the first shop we went into, hurrah. It's a modern looking one, my favourite was the old fashioned kind but this one is fine. It was really, really annoying because it was the clock I always looked at therefore had to get rid asap as it was driving me crazy. Do have other clocks in the house but they were too small and looked out of place so am pleased, can just look up and see correct time now.
YD and GS are down next week because her bathroom is being retiled, she is super pleased! Bathroom will be out of action for a week.
The big change (mentioned a couple of months ago) YD had to make is now underway, it's taken a while but could only be "done" when she was ready, another step forward hurrah xx
Just had a message from YD: GD slept until 9am today napped for 90 minutes, instead of the usual 60 at nursery and was angelic on the way home. YD puts this down to residual Nana magic! 😀 I'll take that!
Babysitting was a big success. YD and DIL were both very stressed during the day, trying to balance toddler's and OH's needs. I offered to go to the chippy for our tea so they could just chill out. GD LOVES the battered fish skin so she was very happy. 😀
Bedtime went well; just a little confused whimpering as GD's not used to Mummy and/or Mama NOT being there at Bedtime, but the favourite teddies - both made by Magic Nana - saved the day.
The big girls had a lovely night out at a Greek restaurant, where one if DIL's friends is chef/owner, followed by a few drinks in a wine bar.... where all the wines are on machines so you can help yourself to a taster or a full glass (after purchasing a card to pay with!) Hic! Then they had a leisurely 2 mile walk home and ordered a taxi for us to get back to Travelodge. They were SO much more relaxed after their, very rare, night of freedom and I was very pleased to have been able to facilitate that. 😁 It's so frustrating living too far away to be able to help.
YD is celebrating securing a new job and handing in her notice (3 months) where she is. Her current job allows flexibility, which helps with childcare, so she's stuck at it despite hating it more and more. New job looks much more promising with the same flexibility. A change at least.
We had a panic when we got to the hotel because it was well after 11pm so we needed our key card to open the exterior door....neither of them would work for the first several attempts so we were stranded on a not very salubrious street for 10 minutes. Eventually got it to work. Phew!
Now at the station with a half hour wait for our first train. Hope they're not as busy as they were on Sunday. 🤞
Hope "magic nanna" did her job haha.
Aaah well no beach but you are there with your girls, so all good.
ED phoned and said she had just booked a holiday for April next year and asked if YD, GS and me wanted to go too. It's not too far from YD's so will speak to YD and see what's what. Might be a little manic as it is totally kid oriented..............
Still on the hunt for a clock, have seen one that's very inexpensive, I would have to paint it though because I don't like colour of wood so will see.
YD bought a mirror that looks like a window, I loved it but I wouldn't have been able to take on train, arrrgh so have been checking the same shop here, Sun morning I found it woo hoo. Was going to put it into YD's bathroom but changed my mind it's too nice to hide away so it is now in the hallway, am super pleased.
Both GC here today, they NEVER stop talking...........have been out to feed the ducks, eaten breakfast, just lunch to make for them now. My head is spinning haha.
Dinner out tonight, yum yum. xx
Trains here were busy but no problems. We had reserved priority seats in carriage A but that turned out to be at the back of the train: too far for OH to get to quickly so we just sat in the first available seats. Lots of people with lots of luggage. Certainly not the quiet Sunday journey we were expecting. Never travelled by train in August before so it might be normal....or it's post pandemic: everyone holidaying closer to home?
We had a nice afternoon in the garden with the girls. GD is very chatty and so full of energy: charging about everywhere.
We are babysitting tomorrow! I offered, thinking they'd go out after GD is in bed, but they've jumped at the chance to go out by themselves and have booked a restaurant for 7pm. So Magic Nana will be doing the bedtime routine. We'll see how that goes!! I joined in tonight, so I know the process. We won't be going to the seaside, then, as that would be too much for one day. I'm disappointed but I won't throw a full on toddler tantrum. "YOU PROMISED!! WAAAH!!" 😄
We're in an accessible room because I didn't want to risk being on the 3rd floor: too many stairs for OH and he hates lifts. The room is on the ground floor right by reception and the restaurant. And it's massive. Brilliant.
Pot of fruit?? What's that?? hahaha
Unlimited breakfast enjoy.
Hope you are having a lovely time with your girls.
Also hope your party went well Jane and your tooth is better, no nerve pain ouch.
Had a great time with YD and GS, although weather was pretty yuck, gale force winds, oh so cold and lots of rain, can hardly believe that only a few weeks ago it was soooooooo hot. Brrrrrrrrrrr.
YD was preparing walls and painting, she is very meticulous. GS was full of hayfever def not a cold arrrgh, poor boy.
ED has appt on Wed regarding covid jab, it's at hospital in another city, am hoping all goes well. Said I could come with her but she says she will just go down herself as it maybe long and very boring for me, said mull it over and decide over next couple of days.
Journey home was really awful, train had a problem 5 mins after leaving city, just less than an hour wait for an engineer, problem sorted, travelled to next stop and told we all had to leave train, nooooooooooo, was lucky because next train to my city was due in 25 mins, hurrah. Arrived home 2 hours later than I should have.............xx
I drive a Polo too, called Habakkuk... because of the registration plate (!) I took OH's car to my favourite tea room in a village 15 mins away... and caught his tyre as I parked... had to phone him and tell him he had a flat... which by then was on the road side... and we had guests due and... he took up position on the grumpy bench! Bit of an expensive lunch...
Going back there today (in my car) I DO like it.....
treatment was interesting. I had a sore tooth... it needed a crown.... I had the crown fitted just before last treatment. Usually that's pain free, but it wasn't, so dentist said nerve was still inflamed and he hoped it would settle. Apparently had I told them, they would have delayed my bone infusion last month as it can stop things in the mouth healing. It's got sore again, so I had a conversation with the dentist yesterday and he said "keep an eye on the trend before we do a root filling, it might heal". I did think to tell them this time, and I have not had the bone infusion today, which hopefully won't do me any harm. It does mean I only had the injections and won't feel ***p tomorrow and will be more OK for the party, so that's good.
Norwich is lovely! Enjoy! I'm just going to put my feet up before going out to lunch... I left my token for the car park in the car, so walked up to 5th floor, came down, paid and then slunk back up in the lifts... wasn't going to try walking up those stairs twice! Swimming sounds very energetic! I'll just join you for the eats if you don't mind... I'm always hungry after a swim 🙂
We go to Norwich on Sunday for just 2 nights. We're off again to Bishop’s Castle Friday 3rd September, because we can! - I loved being on holiday in the first week of term last year. Definitely going to make it a thing now instead of facing the crowds (and, usually, **** weather) in August.
Car passed its mot, as I hoped it would; it's only 4 years old. However, the service was much more expensive than for my trusty old "Uncle Fester" the Fiesta, so the bill was a bit of a shock... and I've been advised I'll need a new tyre soon too. That will cost more as well because the wheels are bigger. 🤔I have to console myself with the fact that Uncle F would have cost a fortune to get through its MOT Last year, never mind this. And "Polo" is nicer to drive. 😊
Swimming yesterday and booked again for tomorrow, 3-week supermarket shop and mowed the front lawn today. I'll do the back lawn on Friday. It's all go this week! Burning off that mahoosive breakfast?!
We've paid for "unlimited" breakfast for 2 days at Norwich traveldodge so I might be *forced* to have another cooked breakfast..... or 2?! 😛 I was very restrained in S*******y's cafe today though: restricting myself to a sandwich, mugatea and pot of fruit. (polishes halo whilst perched on the smug bench). Then I spoilt it by putting enormous fruit teacakes, chocolate and other irresistible goodies in my trolley, including a lasagne for dinner! Leftovers (yeah. Right?!) in shed.
Hope your treatment goes to plan, Jane, and you manage to enjoy the party.
Have a good time at YD's, Katy, I hope you get some decent weather to enjoy the garden.
Joined you on the grumpy frumpy bench, lady on train singing at the top of her voice and telling all passengers where she was going and what she was up to, seriously ended up laughing behind my mask, crazy or what???
Train fuller than last time that's only thing I miss....quiet time...
Hope all goes well with treatment and enjoy party and daughters. Something to look forward to.
Hope mot went well and not too costly, have not had a full breakfast since norcambe days haha
Weather is patchy dodge the showers arrgh have managed so far xx
ooooh! cooked breakfast! yum yum... Hope the car passed it's MOT.... did you get a (real) book?
I had an hour's wait for my blood and covid test yesterday, but that was no problem. (a) I DID have my Kindle (other....) but (b) I didn't need it. I was bought coffee by a consultant I used to support when he was a baby consultant and he sat with me while I waited, and then waited while I had it. A gentleman, in every sense of the word. I once watched him repairing an aortic aneurysm. It was fascinating, and interesting to see an operation right through.
I'm self isolating now, which will clip my wings a bit, but we're planning an afternoon tea for Bank Holiday Monday to raise money for Breast Cancer Now....
Treatment on Thursday, and I shall keep Friday clear and quiet, cause I was so tired last time. Saturday we are going to a Golden Wedding party in Surrey. Daughter lives nearby, so we'll see her afterwards. she's working Sat, so her girlfriend will look after the dogs for the afternoon. I'm told I can go indoors and rest/hide at any point if I want to during the party, so hopefully I'll manage. We had an invitation from D to stay overnight, but I think I will just want my own bed...
I think I'll spend most of the day on the padded bench, being comfortable. Finishing a cardigan for GD, and I've got to the fiddly button-band bit...
