Re: Bone mets - please join in

Thanks pam...it seems youre right about it possibly being an infection as ive just woken with a head cold! Nose all blocked and headache. Thjs was obviously the infection the hospital picked up in my bloods a few days ago ghat i had brewing!
I rung my gp yesterday and he said it sounded like mucus building up in my tubes as the noise would stop when i coughed to clear it.
It would start again about half an hour later and i would have to cough again to clear it.
He said it was either mucus from one of my airways (as you suggested Pam) or trickling from my nose and back of throat.
So...looks like this has scuppered any plans i had of popping into work on Thursday! Honey and hot lemon for me now.
Thanks again ladies for your advice!

Re: Bone mets - please join in

Hi girls....stridor is just the technical name for that rasping sound you are describing....it is usually due to a narrowing of one of the main tubes leading to the lungs and is the sound of the air pushing past a narrowing.....so in kids a cause is something like croup where infection causes inflammation and a narrowing of the airways...or could be a tumour plus or minus something else...so you might expect a chest infection to make it worse......sometimes it is difficult to tell the difference between stridor, wheezing and other noises so its always worth getting it checked out if its worse than normal........hope you are both more settled tonight.xx

Bev i have the same rasping thing from my windpipe. Its worae when i lie down definitely. Also worse after eating. Whats stridor??

Re: Bone mets - please join in

Desi so sorry you're on a bit of a downer. Think its this time of year too ...plays havoc with our hormones doesnt it? Hope things are better for you soon.
Since yesterday Ive had some noisy breathing again.. Every half hour of so when i breathe in i can hear this raspy grating sound from my windpipe.
I rang the dr i see at my breathing clinic who says i should ring my gp to listen to my chest as he thinks it could be stridor.
has anyone else experienced this and what is it exactly?

Re: Bone mets - please join in

Good afternoon everyone
Desi, cry whenever you want to - it will do you good while you wait for the new drugs to work their magic for you like they've done for lots of others.
Bev, fab that you're home and feeling so much better. Soup and shopping too, wow!
Helen, we knew Steve was leaving but hope you're not too sad now you've lost your hubby.
Janette, hope you're not too tired after shopping. I thought I'd read something about not having massages but I could be wrong.
As it was cold this morning and my hair has had a growth spurt - think they've added Baby Bio to my last 2 treatments!- I had to zap it with a hair dryer for the first time since April. Forgotten how much of a pain it is sorting out hair, think I'm going to keep it short to save time. Never thought I'd be happy with short hair, but doesn't this disease change us and our way of thinking? (Or is it just me?)

Re: Bone mets - please join in

Morning ladies Bev it's so good to hear you feeling so much better! Had a lovely day with 2of my sons and their girlfriends yesterday. Finally got to see their new home and it brought me great comfort to see how lovely it is and how happy they seem. Feeling very teary at the moment I think cos of the decision that Fec not had any effect and still in transition of change of treatment. It s the worry I think that things could get out of control, but really going to try and pull back and enjoy each day big effort! My ex is putting pressure on our sons to spend Xmas day with him this year, we have always shared the day! Can't believe how selfish he's being. The younger two have refused and said no sorry we will see you but having dinner with mum, but hone older one really struggles to stand up to his dad in any way it's as if he has always felt he needs to seek his dad's approval. I don't want to put any more pressure on him over it but also don't want him to have any regrets over his choice if you know what I mean.
Have a good day ladies love to all xxxx

Re: Bone mets - please join in

Good morning everyone, hope we're in for a good day. Up in Lakes for weekend and it's not raining any more!

Bev, fingers crossed that they let you go home today so you can carry on getting better in the comfort of your own house (and bed). You must be feeling better by your reaction to Jake - can't think why you'd want a replay button though!!!

Janette, oh no, nothing worse than a frozen chicken - there's always take away if all else fails!

Helen, the jive wasn't good was it - think Judy would have scored more than him.

Tillybob, hope you're not in too much pain and onc can sort you out when you ring tomorrow.

Lynn, you're so right about anxiety and scans. I see onc on Thurs for results from 3 weeks ago and I think it gets harder each time.

Hello to everyone else, hoping you are all feeling well.

Hi to everyone else...there are so many names to remember these days! Hope you are having a good weekend.
Well i thought i would be organised this morning and get my chicken in the oven but have just discovered that it is still frozen inside..grrr best laid plans gone to pot 🙂

Re: Bone mets - please join in

Morning everyone. Bev I am so pleased to see that you are feeling better. Hope that you are home soon in your own bed.

Chocolates nice to hear from you, hope 'things' get better for you with the family, you have enough to contend with without extra worries.

Hope you're okay Desi, and your treatment gets sorted

Thinking of everyone else as well,

I wish that I could look at posts as I am typing so that I can mention individuals, my memory can't keep up sometimes..... can someone explain how to do it.

Have my scan on Tuesday, first one in a year, feeling relieved (that they're having a look/check) but also a little anxious. But you all know how that feels don't you.

Have a good day!

Re: Bone mets - please join in

Evening ladies, how are we all. So sorry for my absence - not Cancer related but trying to deal with a very difficult family situation. It's exhausting me and feeling a bit low. So now trying to catch up with everyone. I'm going to miss loads of you out but have been thinking of you all every day.

Bev - I'm so sorry to hear about your experience. I'm visiting you now and we're having a good old natter. I hope you get out of hospital soon and feel a lot better. However, don't rule out the dreaded docetaxol straight away - was brutal for me too but it worked really well. Negotiate yur dose for next time and see how it goes. xx
Faraway - hope you are doing ok.
Huge hugs to our Sheila and Mavis - thinking of you both very much.
Dani - I got your message - I'll be in touch soon. Stay strong lovely lady.
Helen - I'm finally signing in for roll call. Sorry to worry you - you have enough problems yourself at the moment. Hope this dose is being kinder to you. Rest up as much as you can - with all those men around you there should be plenty of distractions. I'm definitely off men at the moment, although gc popping in would do me the world of good. I think I'd just stare at him - perfection in every way. Oh well enough of that. Not good for the old ticker!!
Pam, belinda, Lynn, the other Helen, Nicky, tracy, Janette, tinks, su-bee, tillybob, lemon drizzle, billben, Bertie, liz, Geordie, Julie, spudlab and anyone else I have missed I hope you are doing as well as you can.

Have a good rest of the weekend. I'm next off on Wednesday so sending my absence note now to last until then.

Huge hugs everyone and stay well

Thanks girls I will ring on Monday , I am not due to see Onc until end of January and I don't want to wait that long, Had an MRI to check for spinal compression and all was ok , but things can change quickly, I will let you know what happens next xx Jean xx

Re: Bone mets - please join in

Hi Tillybob........If you are getting increased pain in the area of your previous treatment I would go back to your onc and seek his advice....he may want to repeat the MRI scan to have a look at what the bones are doing...and in particular to check they are not touching or likely to touch or damage your spinal cord.....I had a similar experience to you...my secondary disease presented with some pain and throbbing in my back....An MRI showed a collapsed T4 in contact with spinal cord...I had emergency radiotherapy to the area over 5 days...that was nearly 4 years ago....I asked re repeated radiotherapy if necessary.......I was told that the concern is the total dose of radiotherapy given to your spinal cord.......too much can cause damage similar to the cancer.....so they would have to think about it....plan the direction very carefully, and consider how long since the last radiotherapy dose............personally if I started to get pain in the same area I would be straight back to the onc........better for him to review everything than for the GP to do it second hand........good luck...Pamx

Re: Bone mets - please join in

Hi Ladies, I wonder if any of you could give me some advise, to cut a long story short, dx Feb 2011 with inflammatory Bc , secs found in lungs and T4 of spine, after usual treatments lungs now clear and spine was showing damage due to cancer but no evidence of active cancer, In April of this year i started with increasing pain around the area in spine, eventually after bone scans it was shown that the bone in spine had crumbled onto nerves so i had 5 rads to the area in July, although the pain never went away it was much improved , however the pain is returning , at the moment i am managing the pain through my GP , my issue is, do I go back to my Onc or carry on with pain meds ? My onc said the damage in the bone would probably never heal , can i have more rads or is it as I suspect a one off treatment, Really don't want to experience the terrible pain i had before. I had a CT scan after Rads and Onc was happy nothing sinister there, but it is always a worry. Thanks ladies.xx

Good morning everyone

Bev, great to see you're on the mend - hoping you have an even better day today.

Liz, hope you're feeling well after yesterday's treatment.

Desi, hope you're feeling ok after yesterday's rads planning and you've got answers to your skull questions.

Helen, well I think you're probably right about hubby 4 tonight. Don't think it helps him with the publicity again about his and Ola's strained relationship, but as you say it will free you up to do other things - forget jobs around house maybe look for next suitor instead, much more fun! Glad your scan is sorted out but I expect it's a bitter sweet feeling bracing yourself for it and then waiting for results.

Thanks...I'm in my cancer centre hospital and theyre outstanding here. They just told me theyre moving me before breakfast to a single room as I'm neutrapenic.
Been doing my obs every 15 mins for first hour then hourly now 2 hourly overnight. To think I'd been 5 days in excruciating pain juggling a concoction of painkillers. ..and they got my pain relief controlled within a matter of a few hours. Xxxx

Re: Bone mets - please join in

Hi Bev, just popping into your 'room' to see how you are (waves at Belinda in the corner!)
It sounds that docetaxol really didn't like you one bit, I think it must be the Marmite of chemos as some have horrendous experiences and others, like me, it doesn't. I hadn't been adding much over the past day or so because of this asI didn't think I'd be very helpful! However you are in the best place possible and sounds Ds like the pain control is one big relief, let's hope the wbc and neuts start picking up soon as well although you are only just into the lowest part of the cycle so like geordiex said expect that they could all go a bit further down. I hope you have lovely nurses to look after you, on any recent stay I've had in hospital I've not been able to fault the great NHS staff of all levels. Take care.
Nicky x
Ps Hi to all mets ladies, hope your own treatments are going well, you are being listened to if not, and any scans or results due soon produce happy faces 🙂 xx
