Re: SCANXIETY!!

Hi helen

what good news from your ct scan. I don't post often but I do read the posts. I bet you look fab with a pixie crop you have such gorgeous hair colour. Big step with the ill health early retirement, it's something I still think about too. I expect you will be kept busy doing  fun stuff and enjoying your free time.  My ct scan was good for me and bone scan was clear so I continue on H&P which I am eternally grateful for. I have been getting some awful heart burn at night not sure what that's all about.

Havent seen Beanbob for a while I hope she is doing ok.

I hope we can meet up again soon.

Re: SCANXIETY!!

Good luck with your results Mollymop & Janette!

After a 2 week wait, I had some good news on Wednesday with my CT scan - the liver is showing improvement after 3 cycles of eribulin chemo so I am very pleased. My side effects haven't been horrendous and I've managed to get away with my hair thinning rather than complete loss - I have cut it from shoulder length to a pixie crop.

I have also had my application for ill health early retirement from my job as a school administrator approved with effect from 31/5/17! I am 49 and have worked at my school for 16 years and previously in a bank for 15 so it will be very strange not working. I have thought about it for a while now and feel the time has come to have some quality time with family and friends. I will be sad to leave though.

I have an MRI whole body scan on Friday 4th to look at the bone mets so another wait is in the offing! Yay!

Take care everyone, love Helen x

Re: SCANXIETY!!

Good luck in your results Moliymop and Janette. You're having a long wait Mollymop. I had one that was about 4 weeks recently and developed all sorts of pains, some of which now seem to have subsided.

Re: SCANXIETY!!

Good luck Mollymop and Janette! The anxiety we all experience is horrid! Its a wonder we don't have a heart attack from stress! I do find if I take on a big project like shampoo the carpets, wash all the windows, etc that I'm too busy to think!  Last time I had one of my most relaxed time waiting, I felt good and thought  my results would be good! Failure! I will never let my hair down like that again! I will say I'm very lucky on wait time. I normally have my scan on a Tuesday and results on Thursday. Two day wait is about the best you can get, unless you are in the hospital. Hugs! FF

Hi Mollymop, got my fingers crossed for you, it definitely doesn't get any easier results time does it!
I'm off for my 3 monthly CT in a few hours and get results next Thursday so I actually don't have a long wait this time!

Re: SCANXIETY!!

Thinking of everyone going through this and waiting for results.  As my wait has been longer than usual (will be two weeks from the scan when I receive them next Tuesday) I am an absolute nervous wreck.  Have all these random pains which I have never had before, hopefully my mind is playing tricks on me.  Just dreadful isn't it xx

Sorry I forgot to add, he was sending her because of the orange peel effect she has on her skin and wasn't sure (100%) if it was lymphedema, existing disease or new disease xx

Re: SCANXIETY!!

Hi all,

Hope you don't mind me messaging.

My mum is currently taking capecitabine and her last scan showed 'stable'. She went to the doctors 4 days after her most recent scan results (a month ago) because she was experiencing some pain. She was told to go to the doctors by her lymphedema specialist nurse to help assist with some pain relief.

When she got to doctors, the dr said that he was going to write to onc to ask if she could see mum before May. (Airing on the side of caution). So anyway about a week ago she had her scan and gets her results in a week. I am worrying like crazy. I keep trying to think that she only saw onc a month ago and everything was stable but I'm still panicking.

Hope you can reply.

Kind regards xx

Thank you Funnyface xx my Consultant is on holiday hence the wait! I have had lung mets for 4 years now and each time I expect to be told it has gone somewhere else. I am lucky that I have had two long runs on Cape and Taxol but always expecting my luck to run out. Gosh I don't sound very positive do I - need my man up pills as my son says :0) Thank you for your reply, I hope you are well xx

Re: SCANXIETY!!

Good luck Mollymop! That is a long wait! Can you call and chase down the results sooner? I'm always nervous on the first scan after starting a treatment. Then I'm fairly calm on like the next two. Then I start to get really nervous after that because I know the treatment will fail at some point. We alll handle it differently.! FF

Re: SCANXIETY!!

Today on Woman's Hour on BBC Radio4, right at the end, there was a feature on mindfulness and cancer. Trish Bartley, who has twice had cancer herself, has developed a mindfulness course for people with cancer. She has also written a book, Mindfulness: A Kindly Approach to Being with Cancer.

I'm not sure I would have gained much idea about what mindfulness was if I had only heard this broadcast but I will follow it up. B xx

Waffles, I don't find Headspace easy, I drop out quite often because there's just too much going on in my head. Taking a minute or two at times during the day is good at times like this B xx

Thanks FF. I feel my stress levels have dropped by 100%. I know I have to find ways to cope with this. Will try Headspace Bonariensis. which you and Moijan have recommended I will persevere with it this time. It looks like a positive step I can take for myself. Love Waffles xxx

Re: SCANXIETY!!

Well I've got my results today and my I'm all clear! So happy. Dr said the shadows would have been breast cancer but the chemo got rid of them and hopefully the medicines will keep them away. Thank you for our amazing doctors and nurses, I am so so grateful.

Applecrumble, we all totally get where you're coming from, I'm exactly the same especially when I go for my onc appt for the results, I'm scouring the waiting area to see if my mac nurse is about because I know from past experience that if she comes into the appt it isn't good news!!!
Good luck with your results and keep us posted!

Re: SCANXIETY!!

Applecrumble, no help to you but believe me, you have a very short wait... Its just as agonising i know. It seems no matter how many scans you have the anxiety never lessens. I always think...will this be the one where they tell me its spread and nothing can be done......but in any case, it doesnt matter how much we worry it wont change the result so try and stay strong and do things which make you happy to try and take your mind off things. Let us know how you get on anf remember we are always here for you. xx

Re: SCANXIETY!!

Had a ct scan on Monday but got to wait until next Wednesday for results. I've got no reason to suspect anythings wrong but can't stop analysing everything that the lovely radiologist said and did, keep going over it in my head looking for clues as to whether she had spotted anything and driving myself mad. Every time I have a test I think that this time I will be fine and every time I end up doing this!!

Hello Marie, good luck to your mum for her scan. It is an anxious time - however, you are very supportive, and hopefully you will help to keep your Mum calm (even though I am sure you are just as nervous!).

Let us know how she gets on. Glad she is feeling well at the moment.

Marie14, How is your mum feeling? Any new aches, pains, breathing issues, etc. , that would make you suspicious that something new might be going on? The best thing for scanxiety is to keep busy! FF
