Re: Don’t want to go flat but advised against immediate reconstruction due to radiotherapy requireme

Hi, I had right sided mastectomy in 2013 and then rads after.  I could not have reconstruction for over 15 months as I had a series of infections which was awful.  I didn't think I would cope being flat but to be honest it was not as bad as I thought.  I had a prosthesis which was very easy to wear and the time really did go faster than you think. Good luck.

Re: Don’t want to go flat but advised against immediate reconstruction due to radiotherapy requireme

Hi SusieQue,

I am coming up to 7 wks post op had left mx with node clearance, with immediate reconstruction.  I am getting married next September so was adamant about recon and yes I am having rads.  I know rads can affect the implant, but weighing this up it was worth having as going flat for me was detrimental to my mental health and my surgeon agreed.  It’s a longer op but I have managed, back driving now after 6 wks, still feels strange but recovery was gd.  Hope you and your consultant agree to do what’s best your you, physically and emotionally.

Will be thinking of you, hope this has helped, 🤗

Don’t want to go flat but advised against immediate reconstruction due to radiotherapy requirement

I’ve been advised by my surgeon not to have an immediate reconstruction as I’m possibly going to need radiotherapy..... I’m an absolute mess as I cannot cope with the idea of going flat even if it’s only for a year or soSmiley Sad Had anyone got any experience of immediate implant reconstruction with radiotherapy following surgery / please help
I’ve got to make my decision by the morning as that is my last appt before surgery Smiley Sad
